i see the need for mounting the flash on the vehicle, but i don't see any reason to mount the camera (risking damage) when you could shoot "hand held" out the back window allowing for more selective framing...
Nice video and setup, Mark. I just can't help think the images would look better if the shutter speed was slower so that you could get the blurred background affect with the rider (you) in focus.
That would have worked great but we would have had to shoot at a different "darker" time of day or use and ND filter. The flash had power to spare we could have easily gotten another stop or two out of it if needed. It's powerful.
Would that setup have worked if you'd done a slower shutter speed and a rear curtain flash, to get some movement in the background and freeze you. Or was the flash too far away?
Question, Mark... If I use the plus X on camera and TT5 standard channel connected to OCF, will I need to do that usual 1 or 2 sync shots before the flas is in sync? Thanks
You cannot do motion blurred backgrounds with the motorcycle in focus if both cameras are on a moving vehicle where there is the possibility of unwanted movement, since the roads are not perfect, you would get bad images if you do not use an extremely high shutter speed. Also composition of a shot like that would be extremely difficult because they did not have a live feed from the camera. Overall great shots, considering the limitations of the rig.
I think the purpose of the video is to demonstrate the use of the radio trigger in such contraption. But I have to agree, this is way too complicated for the results.
This setup is waaayyyy to much just for some pictures that can be taken with a hi speed shutter ( maybe 250+)... I was assuming that this setup was for a video footage... You could have taken better picture with the back door opened and the camera man tied with a safe-belt... Just make sure the backdoor is tied... Oh wait, there's is car/truck that has the option of sidelining backdoor
I think this set-up does not make much sense. The photos you got, could have been made standing at the side of the street. What would have been nive, is a blurry background, to emphasize the speed. Therefore, choose a longer shutter-speed (e.g. 1/30). In case you really want to shoot with flash, make sure to mask the reflective parts of your protection clothes. /Jan (sorry for my bad english, I come from Germany)

Can u please suggest which focus mode was used and which focus point..as with moving objects..one don't tend to get sharp images..
A beemer jockey... I knew there was a reason I liked you, Marc.

I love all your videos Mark! so informative and fun!

I did not quite understand how it was auto-focusing all the time.. can you explain that a little more?
Also, can you post some of the images?
Mark are you there? Helloooo Mark?? Come in Mark? Earth to Mark?? Hope all is well.

Taking a vacation? Mark, are you alive? Please keep going with these amazing videos!
Open up the gas and give us some wheelies!
This gives me some ideas on shooting a car series. However I might stick with my Plus III's
Nice! Most fun shoot ever? :)

Get that knee down Mark, you can do it!
Is that the dude from the creative live videos?

The idea is interesting, but not for photos. Rather, it is for the video, it will be interesting.

Nice bike
first shots without a flash are a way better
Ha, that is crazy.
If the bike was leant over it would help !
Other then reflecting from your jacket the flash wasn't really doing anything, certainly didn't help
phottix odin...
Dude. This is weak af. This setup is pointless
Bragging overkill
