Thanx! I don’t expect to do a lot if teathered shooting (as I mainly shoot - in studio - video) but the option of using my Sony A1 for stills between breaks is a nice option… In fact, this would be perfect to take stills of costume and makeup - on set - before the shoot… to make sure the makeup 💄 isn’t too heavy or soft for the lighting… before we waste takes (as happened on a recent shoot where we just shrugged and said “we’ll fix it in Post” ie the age old excuse when TIME IS MONEY!!!)
Because I’m such a klutz I’ve taken to tie-wrapping the cables to the bottom of stands. That way when I trip over a cable it pulls on the bottom of a stand instead of the top of a stand.
Thanks for the video! i got three things I can use for my setup. can you do a tether to tablet / iPad next?? i don't know if I need software for the tablet separate from the cable
Exactly the type of video I was hoping to find! I have a very, very similar setup to the final one shown in your video (including the same TetherTools arm), however I'm using a roller stand which isn't a huge diameter with the legs so I tend to find the centre of gravity slightly off and I worry it could topple. Do you find this particular stand provides enough stability that even with the 16" laptop being so far forward it still feels sturdy and secure?
This stand is very heavy and secure. It would take a lot of work to push it over. I've been using it for over 15 years with zero issues. It's rock solid.
@@MarkWallaceVideos I can't see any links at all in your video's description and nothing happens if I hover over the video on desktop. Please can you confirm the exact model of the Matthews roller? Thanks.
@@BarryThompson_Photos There are links to all the gear in the video description. :) Any vesa compatible monitor (99% of the pro monitors) will work with this setup.
This setup seems remarkably expensive to me. I started tallying up how much this would cost and when I got to the point where I was @ $1400 and wasn't done I stopped.
@@jamesschulte9110 You can mix and match and create something that is similar but much more affordable. That’s the fun of this gear, you can choose what works best for you.
If you are starting out, you can get one of those heavy duty trolley with wheels from hardware shops. A laptop is a must but you don't necessary need second monitor unless you're handling big commercial projects. After that is just a long USB-C cable with good data transfer rate.
There are a lot of possibilities to buy some alternate mounting options, nothing against Tethertools which are top notch, but Neewer and Kupo provide stand/ mount/ screen mounting systems on a more affordable basis. You will just need to search for some of theese. Also, i 3D printed a lot of cups and hooks that i adapted, it's just more hassle as to buy into a system that provides ready to use options. As for tethering cables, Oculus VR cables have mostly good quality and transfer speeds.
I purchased a mobile work station from Amazon for $158. It includes a wheeled stand , monitor mount and desktop. I modified it to have a tray for my Mac mini underneath the desktop and power outlet brick for additional outlets. All in less than $200. It’s great for a home studio, but nowhere even close to be robust enough for commercial work.
@@MarkWallaceVideos thank you i did. just getting back into shooting from having a stroke. thanks for the inspiration ordered me a nice tethered setup. shooting 10 years and never really shot tethered. not anymore lol. again thank you
is it normal for a camera to get warm when tethered. it also seems to drain the battery faster. its not hot just warm .Im not worried unless it could cause damage
If you have your LCD screen on it can warm things up. It's normal for cameras to get warm when left on for longer periods of time. It will definitely use more battery because it's constantly communicating with the computer. You may want to use an ONsite Relay or other external power adapter if you need hours of operation. tethertools.com/product-category/power-management/
@@MarkWallaceVideos Remote in this case is a location out of your studio, and perhaps your transportation limits the ability to carry the stands that you are using.

I would love to know the name of the monitor you’re using. I just want to make sure I get the right one to fit when I’m ready to start building.

Agree, can just start with tethering to a laptop. Or an existing tv on a table or bench.
