i just got mine and it has really turned my opinion of Yamaha around ! I used to prefer Kawasaki over Yamaha and would trash talk yamahas all the time. but I think I might be giving Yamaha a chance now! i am loving my 2020 R3!

It’s a great bike. Definitely for the daily commuter and beginner riders. I’m surprised that the seat was comfortable being that it’s a Yamaha.

I think the current A2 bikes are cracking, I'd happily commute, tour and trackday most of the new A2 bikes. My KTM 390 Duke was great at eating the miles and for scratching on my local twisties, my mate took his around Anglesey and it didn't embarrass him! :-)
We are constantly told by the press and manufacturers that we need the latest greatest superbike/adventure bike etc to do the things we want to do.... yet it wasn't that long ago when bikes that are now classed as learner/new rider bikes would completely pee all over the bees knees of the time.
Nice first impressions review mate :-)

Just recently getting the buzz to get into motorbikes and thus has been the dream bike for a while now and its amazing to see it out on irish roads, as that's where mine will be someday. You really can't get a sense of things when they won't be in your environment so thank a million for making the video, it's really helped me visualise my dream.

Even though your video is two years old, I'd like to comment on it. Time is of no importance, as I find it very topical. Especially when I see your age, it seems to me that you're younger than me, despite my 63 years and my 33 years as a motorcyclist. It makes me so happy to see 'old youngsters', just like me, enjoying these types of bikes. I store these bikes. I am and remain young in my head despite my physique... Good health to you and many more motorcycle rides!

Obviously a great starter little machine.
In my case it is going to be my second and "forever" bike though.
What it brings to the table is an affordable price, albeit a little saucy for the category, cheap to run, maintain and insure, comfortable-light-efficient for commuting, real fun in the twisties, perfectly capable of highway riding, though I may consider a sprocket change to reduce the rpm if I find myself doing a decent amount of highway miles on it.
And that it lacks the power to kill you, yes some people do consider that a plus, is why I scratched the R7 off my list and aything more powerful than this.
Having spent 32 yeras driving various cars on the road, and despite being a speed lover with 17 years in karting, I would happpily go back to my '99 Megane coupe with it's 98 HP as my daily rider if I could get one new today.
Hydraulic steering instead of electric, nice playful chassis, really planted at high speed with great aero, manual gearbox, light, economical, beautiful, perfect.
It's because Ithere are no longer good cars like that around any more that I turned to motorcycles at the tender age of 50.
The R3 is the perfect equivalent to that car.

I have an older model (black) that I converted to a sport touring bike with bags, a taller wind screen, better pegs, Akrapovic pipe, better seat for long rides. The investment wasn't high, and it does what it's supposed to do. A 150/60 rear tyre really improves the handling.

I am currently riding 2020 MT03 and think about changing to R3 because of lack of wind protection on MT. Aftermarket windscreens for MT03 are crap and doest work as intended. R3 Fairings seens to do the job.
I dont like what Yamaha did with the front forks. On 2019 model R3 had gold forks. From 2020 onward they made it black and only Anniversary edition have gold forks :/
