@@bridge4 Bro, this just opened up a HHUGGE rabbit hole for me! Been a fan of your vids, so I thought, ok lemme see wtf a Stormlight is. 5 minutes ago, I never knew of Sanderson. Now I'm like, I really want to learn everything about this crazy magic world! Figure I'll start with Elantris. Rite on
@@navodthivanka240 The Stormlight Archive is a Fantasy series by B Sanderson. Bridge 4 refers to a slave team who, alongside other bridge teams, had to DDay rush their canyon bridges into enemy fire so the Army could cross. This happened repeatedly as the geography was all steppes and canyons. It was a very low life expectancy job, usually manned by slaves, deserters and criminals. Moral was hopeless. Bridge 4 came together as a team and became professionals with pride. That's no the whole story and It's a good book so I'm not going to spoil any more. It's called The Way of Kings.
It’s even hinted that caged dragon’s magic withers. As stated in the dragon pit. The last dragons (who were in captivity were the size of an Apple stated by Tywin).
And gender, Balerion the Dread was male and dead at 220 aged old. Vheagar female died at 183 aged old was almost as big as Balerion. Aged difference 37 years, Gender matter in size
@Madhav Ignihir why where some dragons that big ? If Vheagar has reach age of 220 then she Will be alot bigger then Balerion at age of 220, she died at 180 and was almost as big as Balerion at age of 220
RADIA DJAROUD no. With almost all reptiles (with the exception of crocodilians) females are larger than males. They have to be because they need to hold and lay eggs. It’s a pretty good theory that drogon is a female.
Tay.D Xo I’m one of those types that feels more for the animals than I do humans. 😆. And it was Drogon that killed that child not the other two. And he stayed away. They were like what did we do???
He's the alpha, was bigger from the start, and probably ate first and more than the other 2. He also wasnt shackled up underground. Now lets see if anything I said pans out.
MakerWhy yes, but dragons obviously are reptiles, so they almost certainly follow reptilian biology. There is actually a pretty reasonable explanation for why Drogon might be larger. He very well could be female. In 90+% of reptiles species, the females are larger than males.
@@SarastistheSerpent I completely disagree because we're simply talking dragons which should have their own category because of the nature of what they are. For that reason I doubt they follow the normal reptile traits because of what it took for dragons to become dragons, they are cemetery unique in every way possible so for that reason I don't your theory is correct. If we take to your logic then dragons wouldn't be as intelligent as they are but we see in the show that they are capable of understanding universal body language. In the books it states that when dragons started to get locked up in cages they started to shrink in size. Drogon was out roaming essos while the other two stayed locked up in a cage. And we knew drogon was going to be bigger because drogons egg was the larger of the two which possibly means that drogon came from a different and larger dragon then the other two.
Because majority of the time…they’re worthless without the dragon Majority of Targaryen family member are just lunatic Comparing to all the other houses Baratheon “great fighter, military genius, law enforcer…” Starks “Honorable, great fighter, politics (not in a Shaddy way” Lannister “Prideful, smart, military genius, politics (when in comes to self interest” Targaryen? “Boo Hoo we can’t do shit without our dragon,Incest, going mad like it’s part of their puberty or whatever”
I always hoped that drogos soul went into drogon and he protected her with the same might a dragon would have. Lol thats why i thought it was funny when drogon was staring at jon and danny while they made out in front of him
It never occurred to me to wonder why Drogon is bigger. Animals, same as humans grow at different rates. But yes I think locking up the Rhagal and Viserion would had stunted their growth. Drogon, being free was able to eat more I guess too. Well, that's what I think lol. Great video as always lovely x
I always thought that perhaps it was because he was the firstborn. And he seems to be Dany's favorite of the three. He's the one she always rides. He's the alpha of the three. He seems to be the most powerful.....in the scenes I have seen him in, he's always at the front, he's always the one to intimidate people while his brothers are in the background. Usually in nature, that position would go to the biggest and strongest in the pack.
Its similar to Nymeria, she became huge roaming around in the forrests, while the others did not to that extend. Shaggy, Summer, Ghost, Greyhound all were well fed, similar to the dragons. Beeing captive, means there is no need to fight. Meaning you dont have to develope certain characteristics, muscles, size. This again counts for wolves and dragons like every animal alike. Vulcanic is a possibility, since they are magic creatures. But we will never know, its just a shot in the dark, noone can prove right nor wrong. We could also say dragons grow bigger when eating humans and since drogon did... thats the reason for his size. Just a shot in the dark.
Plus Rhagal and Viserion had stopped eating while Daenerys was MIA, which led to Tyrion visiting them to try to coax them into feeding. The lack of nutrition could've further exacerbated their semi-stunted growth.
The “dragons never stop growing if they have food and freedom” thing is really quite interesting, since some reptiles, namely snakes have drastically different growth rates if overfed or underfed, resulting in ether rapid or stunted growth and most importantly they never stop growing, although they do slow down to a snails pace once they reach adulthood. Food for thought I guess.
Maybe Drogon is bigger because his egg was from Dragonstone ( volcanic ) and the other 2 were from Kings Landing. & just around the time of the extinction of them, as said in the show the eggs were a sign of wealth and power, so maybe they were traded back and forth until they all ended up coming together. Then Daenerys rebirth of them thru fire.
What actually happens in a bowl or small tank is that the exterior of the fish stops growing, causing it to remain the same size. However, the organs continue expanding in size, and so do the spine, eyes and fins. Eventually, after the organs have been squished together and the spine is bent into an S-shape, the fish will die.
Drogon is often described as black and shiny and ferocious, much like Balerion the black dread, could it be that they are related and thus he is bigger?
Dude, in the show, right before Tyrion unchains the dragons the comments about the "Goldfish" theory. He says the last Dragons in Westeros were as small as cats.
There was only 1 dragon who was small. The rest where able to be riden. The last dragon was the size of a dog but thats due to being in captivity and only being 23 years old
So why is she fire proof?? If their dragons have nothing to do with them. Not saying they are one and the Same but there is something special about their family
@@bridge4 According to yourself GRRM said, "Targaryens are not immune to fire." That does NOT mean "Dany is not immune to fire." On the contrary, all evidence indicates very strong thermal insulation lining her skin and she survived otherwise fatal heat environments. There might be innate magical powers or ones that she initiated unknowingly at work but she couldn't possibly be a learned sorceress of blood magic on that fateful night.
My opinion is that dany is “fire proof” because she is considered a true dragon. Unafraid, fierce and accepts the blood magic that allowed her dragons to be born when she burned with the pyre that hatched the eggs because she wasn’t afraid and a coward. This proves true when khal drogo dumped the golden crown over viserys head and he dropped like a sack of potatoes because he was a nitwit and not a true dragon as dany stated when she said he wasn’t s true dragon because dragons don’t burn
Great job Kev. I'm in that camp that dragon size is related to the amount of freedom it has. The reason why the dragons after the Dance of Dragons got smaller and smaller was because they kept them locked up as they became more precious. Plus the fact there weren't as many Targs around afterwards to hatch them. I like the hypothesis that they can grow bigger around volcanic activity though. Being around a heat source like a volcano may stir the "inner furnace" within a dragon's anatomy and perhaps accelerate growth.
I just like that you said hypothesos. it's not a search term, so it's probably a bad idea to say hypothesis instead of theory, but I have to, because I feel like I'm lying every time I use the word "theory" (like I did in this video for the theory 1, 2, and 3 icons (often say hypothesis in scripts tho at least :))
@@bridge4 yeah i have issues when people present ideas as theories because that implies they have been tested and explained using incontrovertible evidence (i.e, direct observations). Once you start making interpretative deductions it wanders into hypothesis territory. Scientific theories always spawn from hypothesis and speculation anyway. But hey in common vernacular, it's ok to say it I suppose. =) I'm just a stickler for these types of things lol. Awesome stuff man.
Haha exactly. I had forgotten the definitions until I saw one of colbert's semi recent videos with his boy Neil DE grass Tyson who was like "actually, you're referring to a hypothesis, not a theory" And since neil is one of my top 3 people, I immediately adopted his stance on the two, even in terms of everyday topics
Haha I know man. I'm torn sometimes because my head still thinks of theory as the correct word even though I now know it's not On top of that, good communication is more about being understood than being grammatically correct. So I've debated going back to theory On the other hand, I definitiely have an internal "evil" Lil laugh everything I say hypothesis, knowing that I'll be judged for it by people who don't realize the twuth! :))
The eggs may have been from different clutches too, genetically different. Dany is bonded to Drogon and wants him to grow quickly. Do you think there are any wild undiscovered dragons in remote planetos?
that birth of danys dragons had a material impact on the level of magic in the world. So I think hers are the ony three dragon's (Not counting the wyverns of sothroyos since those are a natural species)
There are reports of ice dragons flying around over The Shivering Sea as stated in TWoIaF. I chuckle when people regard wight Viserion as an "ice dragon." =)
I wonder how much being near a dragon hatcher plays part as well. You could see Dany’s bond to Drogon before he was even hatched. I hope there are wildling dragons laying eggs galore. A girl must dream❤️
Apparently Shandon wants babies to die and the world to burn. Generally speaking, I love dragons in fantasy. But these dragons are monsters (they don't always act as monsters, but their birth is a monstrous act and pepper ability to bond them allows humans to d monstrous things that they would be otherwise incapable of doing
It’s not just a “gold fish” theory though. I own a bearded dragon and that is actually exactly how they grow. You must feed them adequately and provide the most space you can. As a beardie grows, you are supposed to provide them enough room to run, climb, exercise, etc. In their first two years you can replace the tank up to four times if you’ve got a real grower. I have no idea if this is what they based it on (probably not), but they went deep into designing these dragons for the show and they often imitate real animal behavior on purpose. Like all the dragon noises are made with some of the sound designers DOGS 😂 Just food for thought!
I think all af the theories are reasons for drogons size, but I think you missed to mention the (boring but kind of important) fact that not all dragons grow with the same speed. Of course it is important that they eat properly and don't get locked into tiny caves, and even the volcano-thing (which is really interesting btw) plays a role, but as boring as it might be, dragons just don't all grow the same speed...
In season 5, Rhaegal and Viserion were locked up in Mereen, Drogon was the only one still flying outside. Maybe that's why he got bigger. I think thats a good theory (The Goldfish Theory) it is often mentioned in the series that confinement and breeding in cages stunted the dragons' growth.
1. Viserian and Rheagal where locked away in captivity and Drogon was left out. 2. They never said they were from the same dragon. Its just said that they were from the shadow islands. So potentially he could have come from bigger dragons. But that's just my opinion 🤷🏽♀️
Reptiles aren’t like wolves. They don’t have dominance hierarchies based on alphas and omegas. More likely the reason for Drogon’s size is that he is female. In most reptile species, females are larger than males.
@@SarastistheSerpent So you think dragons would be reptiles? Have you ever seen a reptile show affection as Drogon does? Ever seen a reptile intelligent enough to rescue its owner from trouble? (hey, I almost got mugged the other day, good thing my pet python knew I was in trouble and leaped from the 2nd story window, strangling the guy to death) Have you ever seen a reptile breathe fire? Actually, have you ever seen a reptile FLY?(no, gliding from trees doesn't count as real flying) There were flying dinosaurs, but those had feathers and more in common with a modern day chicken than a reptile. hint: Dragons aren't reptiles. lol Watching the other dragons follow Drogon as he flies means he's a leader, not a follower. That's obvious enough. Watching Drogon take food from the other dragons and then snap at Daenerys demonstrated he was very dominant. Again, obvious enough. Wolf-like behaviour.
AmericanThunder as a matter of fact I have seen reptiles smart enough to show affection and bond with humans. Tegus do it all the time. So do monitor lizards. Both also can display extreme food aggression. Dragons are reptiles. Even on the song and ice and fire wiki they’re referred to as reptiles. Considering dragons historically were inspired by snakes (which are reptiles), it’s fair to consider them reptiles as well. Dinosaurs aren’t usually considered reptiles. If you consider dinosaurs reptiles, using that phylogenetic system, modern mammals would also be considered reptiles. If dragons are more like dinosaurs, then the wolf arguement falls even flatter. Birds are showy breeders, not dominance based ones. Male birds are usually very colourful and flamboyant, and they use this flamboyance to attract females. It’s called peacocking. They do not have alpha based hierarchies. In fact, with the exception of canines, felines and some primates (not humans though), most animals don’t have dominance hierarchies based on an alpha-omega system. Dragons are nothing really like wolves. They’re solitary creatures in the wild (according to GRRM) and wolves are strong pack hunters. I wouldn’t argue though about your observations on Drogon. He leads rheagal and viserion, displays strong food aggression, and is clearly more dominant than they are. The very best reason as to why that is would be that he is female while rhaegal and Viserion are males. It’s really the only conclusion that makes complete sense and is plausible based on real life biology. Since dragons can’t really be sexed, well never really know.
in my opinion he is bigger because he was free but not just because of that, he was flying around while the other were locked up, and physical activity improves growth because he was constantly using his muscles they grew bigger and he grew healthier aswell
"Targaryens are not special without their dragons, that is why any dragon that will survive will have to be put down." I absolutely hate this theory, because I don't want the dragons to die... yet I thought about it too before hearing it from you, and I believe it might be true. No matter how much I want them to stay alive, I fear they won't for the very reason you mentioned.
These recent videos have been blowing my mind. But I don't see how you can say there are no special humans, when you have wargs and the three eye raven.
special compared to us. but not special amongst themselves. anyone can be a warg, do greensight, bond a dragon, see visions in the flames, raise the dead, etc
You know why, silly. Because they were chained..that's why they were the size of cats after the Dragon's lair, per se..was built in King's Landing. They weren't meant to be chained.
Is there any evidence in the books that the eggs were laid by the same female? Maybe genetics have something to do with the reason why Drogon is bigger. In your final argument, you mention the misconceptions of the people in the story and fans of the story. I feel that's what GRRM wants. A writer's job is similar to that of a sales rep. You've got to sell the story. The characters within the story don't have a choice where they go, who they are or will become and what they believe ... that's their life dictated by the author. The reader, however, does have a choice. If they love the story, they will go along with the story line ... including the ability to conjure life from death, the existence of dragons, walking dead people and yes, even the power of king's blood and the old gods and the new. There's still a possibility that GoT will end with magic, or the power of king's blood, or the death of magic and the power of king's blood. I will admit it ... I've fallen in love in this magical library created by GRRM. I have created my own ending which I'm sure will change from episode to episode (and chapter to chapter when the books are released). I honestly feel GRRM wants the reader to believe in magic ... which I do. Once upon a time! Great video, Kev.
@@bridge4 Actually Kev, I have to disagree ... all humans are special. :-) Now when you're writing, the only limitation a character has is based on the author's creativity and writing ability. If the author does their job, there can be "super-humans" within their story. They just need to sell those super-human abilities to the reader. Stan Lee was amazing at creating super-humans. And A. A. Milne was great at turning toys into a child's best friend. That's why authors create these amazing escapes ... so we can, for a moment, believe in far-away places with strange-sounding names ... that's occupied by humans and creatures with amazing powers that ride dragons through the bifrost. Or where a child can have a toy bear, a talking mule and a tigger that will keep them entertained as they frolic through the hundred-acre wood. All I'm saying is that a book can have whatever the author can sell to his/her reader. Want pink fields? Orange skies? Dogs that can talk? It's all inside the author's mind, and, if they are diligent, can find it's way to paper and into the reader's imagination.
@@bridge4 On an aside, if you want to meet some really super-special humans, spend a day at The City of Hope. The children there are amazing. After you've done that, I think you'll agree with me ... there are some super-special humans here on planet earth!
I think I have to disagree. No, I don't believe in Targaryens being genetically special, "blood of the Dragon" and all that. Not sure I think that there is anything inherently special about Jon Snow either, or most other Starks. But there is one huge exception, which is obvious in both the books and the show, and that is Bran Stark being a green-seer, which is obviously extremely rare among humans. In fact it is quantified as one in a million.
@@bridge4 I do not think valyrian people are plain humans, dany survived fire 2 big times and i guess its because of the "dragons" blood, they are more or less a hybrid version of elves much more humanized by grrm, at least thats my guess, she's mortal but not normal and what danny meant by "and we as targaryans grew small as well" was in my opinion a testament to her seeing his brothers blood beeing weak, as he died of heat, which shouldn't be as a fullfletched targaryan, don't you think ?
Nicholas W.M. I think he’s alive.. like he showed in the video dragons can fly threw water. But also in episode 5 teaser at the end there’s a dragon scream. And it does not sound like drogon, it sounds like rhageal and Euron seems pretty shocked
Stas Clarke doubt it, it’s a long shot saying rhaegal is coming back too. Just my thoughts surrounding the last episode and the teaser. If you search for drogon scream and then rhaegal scream you can clearly tell that it’s rheagals scream in the teaser so idk
I think that all those theories have a bit of truth, because, first of all, he was born bigger, so the egg theory it undeniably true, then the food and goldfish theories also are a bit true, because Rhaegon and Vyserion often refused to eat while they were "imprisoned" (if I remember correctly). Lastly, the volcanic theory also makes sense. I mean, every animal has an ideal environment were it thrives more and it just feels right that for dragons this environment is a volcano
@@bridge4 Oh, well, thanks. Anyway, I've thought a bit more about it and I think I've found another proof for the goldfish theory, and that is that even if a chained dragon didn't refuse food, it would eat less because it wouldn't be flying around and making all those activities that consume energy, making it less hungry. This probably explains why the dragons of the Targaryans started to get smaller and smaller
I feel there was also a thing where they said black dragon, because of genetics or color or something, were naturally more dominant than the other's. That could explain why Drogon's egg was bigger and why he himself and grew faster as well as he was always the first to try and do things. He always asserted his dominance over the other 2 where he would win fight over food and usually eating first and the most also contributed to his growth rate. There are a good number of animals that change in size and physic when they are the dominant of the groups. Rhaegon and Vyserion did refuse to eat when they were locked up so I feel that also put them behind. There could be a number of more things and it's interesting as dragons in lore have always been the most interesting to me
@@thebenis3157 Not only that, but these are still animals and have moods. So chained dragons don'tt go through their natural moods and periods of exercise, which makes them more inclined to eat meals. I mean, they are fire incarnate, that also says something about their psychological life. Think about how they only accept a single rider, a proof of their wily nature. They need to hunt, they need to kill and eat their victims, to develop their full potential.
Drogon is bigger because the other 2 were locked in that tomb underneath Dany's pyramid, and they weren't free to move, eat and grow as Drogon was. This is reinforced throughout the episode in the Dragon pit when Dany said the dragons grew to the size of cats as they were not let to fly and eat openly
There are many animals on earth that naturally grow larger depending on how much space or territory they have. Bigger territory=more food=opportunity for growth. Drogon could hunt and eat to his desire (wildlife and livestock), but Rhaegal and Viserion would have only eaten what was available. With Drogon eating lots of livestock, they probably couldn't spare a whole lot more livestock to feed another two growing dragons. If Rhaegal dies, it doesn't seem necessary for Drogon to perish as well because Balerion lived until he died naturally from old age around 200 years old. It would be awesome if at least one dragon can survive this series.
Access to an abundance of food as well as a spacious environment plays a significant role in growth. I've seen this over the years with my aquatics pets, especially goldfish.
People always remember first impressions. If a king, loses everything and becomes a farmer, people will still remember him as a king. If a farmer becomes a king, people will remember, he was a farmer. You can never escape first impressions and the Targaryens knew that. They intertwined their identity with dragons because people remember the power of the first Targaryens. I like your theory and it fits. Drogon, had the potential to get bigger, they all had enough food but he spent time around volcanic activity. I think people need to put out into proper size and scope. For a human, we would be talking about an inch or two. For a dragon, we are talking about five, ten or fifteen feet bigger and a couple thousand pounds to go with it.
@@bridge4 I have to admit, it was taken from, Robert Jordan. It was from book five, in the Wheel of Time series. It has stuck with me, every since I read it, 13 years ago. There's allot of similarities, to the undertones of Game of Thrones. One being that, in the fight between light and dark, neither Creator or Dark One, truly wants to win. They both need the other, inorder for there to be, light and dark. Basically, the fight, is to keep balance between the two.
@@bridge4 Brandon Sanderson, did amazing in the books. He actually took it a little darker, which it needed. I just started reading mistborn. He has me hooked.
Love your content! Something you brought up about Tyrion seeing a dragon with pale leathery wings: it would have to be Drogon if Danny’s 3 were the only dragons left, I agree. However, keep in mind that Sheep Stealer, The Cannibal, Silver Wing, and Morning (I think?), all survived The Dance and there’s no evidence that they died. With consideration of these dragons, it makes more sense that Drogon didn’t travel all that far and this dragon is most likely Silver Wing, or maybe a wyrvern.
Was about to write a comment about that but figured I'd see if anyone pointed that out before me, and what do I see, an Isaac wrote the comment.. I guess 2 Isaac's think alike, because that's my name middle name even though everyone calls me that over my 1st name..
Just like to note that tyrion took the chains off them in the dungeon, they never broke free of the chains themselves like you said, only broke through the walls
@@bridge4 Hi, just wondering about your point in the video that 'there is no such thing as the Blood of the Dragon', with respect to the Targaryen's. But how is Dany's being impervious to fire and heat explained then please? Thx, great video as always :)
bridge4 In your video you said they broke free from their chains. Is that from the book as in the show Tyrion unleashed them. I don’t believe they broke out through a solid wall, in the show it looked like the wall was damaged from one of the catapult attacks when the slave masters returned. Viserion and Rhaegon couldn’t fit out the gap in the wall so broke it open more so they could fit out. Had it not been for the catapult attack they would have still been trapped inside. Something else I considered from the show was that when Denaerys said they looked bigger had someone been extending their collars? How could they be bigger whilst wearing the collars? Therefore it wouldn’t have been the size of the room that slowed their growth but the collar round their necks. However this is contradicted by them appearing to be bigger, so which is it? I think it’s a combination of all your points. Less food, no freedom, chained up.
I always thought that as each dragon is named after a man in Dany’s life, and were only born after the last one died, that each dragon is in a way a version of those men reborn. As Drogon is named for Drogo, and therefore by that theory is his ‘reincarnation’, he is the biggest because Khal Drogo was massive compared to Rhaegar and Viserys
What about the fact that Dynaeris put Drogon's egg in the fire brazier prior to the night she walked onto the pyre. Drogon grew stronger because he had an early fire experience, where the others did not.
The goldfish theory might fit because drogon was noticeably out of his "cage" more when they were hatchlings and that she favored him a little more than the other two dragons. He was also already bigger which meant dany might have thought he did need more attention because of how fast he was growing. Drogon was the dragon we see the most out and about. He is clearly favored by dany and that could tie into his rapid growth..
He is bigger because he is a Black dragon other two are Red and Green dragons like in game 'Heroes of Might and Magic'. The black dragons are the biggest and strongest. The eggs also were with differnt colors (black, red, green) because they are differnt type of dragons. Bridge 4 hands crossed.
Havent watched yet. But I've always thought that because the other two were locked away for some time. When reptiles are stuck in dark areas they kind of stop growing but also it's as if their evolution slows down for awhile. Pretty cool. . . I was raised in Louisiana. Lol. You see it in alligators all the time. They used to do this on purpose to some of the babies and keep them small so us kids could play with them at the fairs.
possibly. i do believe that can be a factor, but personally, i dont believe that the size of their enclosure stunted Rhaegal and Viserion. there are two other reasons i lean on as to why drogon is bigger. one is fact. and second is theory. =)
@@bridge4 Yes, great video by the way, as always! Do you think Rhaegal will be noticeably larger than Viserion during S8? Or do you think the way that Bran(🤣) rezzed him will allow him to grow, like a little baby Craster? I'll take the answer in video form if you think it's worthy enough! lol
I've run out of time to do over 250 videos. So I probably can't add any new ones to my list, at least not until s8 is done, sorry My guess is that viserion won't grow but rhaegal will, as you were eluding to So size difference depends on how much tines passes before he's probably killed A decent amount of time has to go by in between s7 and s8 or during s8, since dance has to get to full term. So the difference between rhaegal and viserion will depend on when he goes down My guess is that he'll be 50% bigger in terms of mass
Any chance that Drogon might be bigger because he descends from Balerion the Black Dread? I could be wrong but I don't think it's stated anywhere that the three eggs were from the same parentage?
Tyrion explained why in season 6, episode 2 around the 23 minute mark. After a few generations of being in captivity, the dragons were no larger than house cats.
"Meowreen" 😂👍"Meow on top of that" 🐱🐈 i actually heard u smile few moments after 😜 The visuals are stunning. And the dragon animations take me back to your first dragon videos and the battles . Always a pleasure watching these... now I'll stand up and yell, channeling my inner Dany: "where are my dragon... videos" 😫🤣
Haha u didn't say meow reen. At least not intentionally. I try specifically ssuing the two E''s before the r, cause I used to say muhreen, but I think it's supposed to be mere-een
Haha yeah the dragon shots are cool. Now you see what I meant last night by "clip focused" (and was afraid of potentially copyright flags since a inured 13 seconds on one or two of them. I've never had a problem below 10. It's poll safe t go to 15ish tho
I just LOVE your philosophy... I knew it was not really/ only about the size of the dragons but something much deeper 😉 that word of Varys may be the most essential thing in politics 😅
Ah I'm glad you stuck around to the end. That's the best part of the video. I have an entire video outlined for that topic. It's one of the most important topics for sure :))
@@bridge4 to be honest you know what, I came from one of the world's largest cultures and longest dynasty traditions, where their impacts still have their influences. In history lessons, while reading books or watching "our" TV series, I always asked myself WHY on hell did the powerful people have their power?! Why did normal folks fear the monarchs?! They were also made of flesh and didn't really know Kongfu 😂😂 there was no dragons or magic or anything. So WHY?! I never could understand that. So GOT is so revealing to me.. I remember hearing Varys say that the first time, I was like "wooooow! That's the key!"
Promise me Ned Very nice theory I like that one. Among the dragons I always had something for Rhaegal... He has the name of Rhaegar, he's green, he seems a bit wilder and more unpredictable than his brothers (just look at Daenerys burning the Yunkish fleet, Drogon and Viscerion were burning the only ship Dany told them to burn, while Rhaegal was flying around and having his own fun burning and breathing fire everywhere). Moreover, he's the one who burns the master in the cave (who got devoured by him and Viscerion) and he's the one who has shown himself first to Tyrion (by giving "roaring to him"). As for what the book says, Rhaegal is the "middle brother" (middle brothers are always odd in a family of 3 boys). Drogon is the most agressive and Viscerion is the most well-beheaved (unlike Viscerys). Whereas Rhaegal is not as agressive as Drogon (he still is) but not as friendly as Viscerion. In some ways, it makes him a dangerous one, because you never know how he can turn out to be in various situation. For example, when they were younger, Drogon dived in the water and caught a fish, now try to guess who tries to steal the fish... Our green boi... When Daenerys decides to put them in the caves, Viscerion was easily restrained and chained, whereas Rhaegal burned 6 men, injured others and it took three days and several men with a heavy iron-chain net to carry him down to the caves (and he was still fighting back). And in the books too Rhaegal was burning the fleet that opposed them. As a matter of fact, if Rhaegal was as big as Drogon, it would've made him a fiercer and even more dangerous dragon than his brother. "Rhaegal the Wildfire" That's a fine name for a green, fierce and unpredictable dragon.

@@bridge4 Many thanks to you man! We all share different views and I love yours!! That's why I watch your videos and try to comment as much as possible.
I admit to having assumed it was simply blood. Even if the three dragons came from the exact same clutch (I have no idea if they did or not) siblings can still grow to be different heights, and Drogon by luck of the draw inherited the genes to grow head and shoulders taller than his brothers.
Dany also warmed drogons egg in the fire more than the other two as well. She also had visions spawned from starring into the egg. On how to hatch them like the other Targaryens.
I have over 300 outlines right now. Lost track of time tho, so I've prioritized and I'm doing as many prediction type theory videos as I can had of the season or the episode in the season in which ki expect the theory to unfold But there are at least 100 videos that I can still complete post season. Theory videos that are interperative as oposed to predictive, my top fighter series, and other stuff So as long as I can scrape by and pay the bills, I'll be making GoT and ASOIAD videos until the prequel comes out (also going to do the Witcher, Lord of the rings, maybe watchmen but probably not, wheel of time, and kingkiller chronicles - and occasionally brandon Sanderson stuff sonce he's my favorite author and I expect mistborn and stormlight archive to come to screen eventually
That's sounds great. I'm excited for those Lord of the Rings videos too. Your channel is the reason I read the ASOIAF books so maybe I will add another saga to that list.
Khal Drogo was probably a big Person, bigger than Viserys or Rhaegar. Maybe that's why Drogon is also bigger because of that connection to Khal Drogo we don't know
Given the Night King in S8 I'm starting to think it's a good thing that Viserion and Rhagal were locked up for a bit IF that's what played into their lack of growth.
To be honest with you Drogon was always larger not because of his freedom and access for food, but even when he was a hatchling he always appeared slightly larger than the other two. Of course, that gap widens when the other two were locked up, Rheagal seem to have caught up with Drogon too, he's slightly smaller but definitely catching up. Nice vid
I feel like all of them make sense. The freedom & food feel pretty connected to me in that if you are free you can eat whatever/whenever you want... Locked away you depend on feedings. (Meow... Subtler this time though ;))
Someone mentioned that rhageak and viserion stopped eating in the show. (Not sure about the books, but I don't recall that off the top of my head) Wish I had know that for this video, cause it seems food also played a part as well
@@bridge4 Yeah, when Tyrion is trying to manage Mereen while Daenerys is with the Dothraki, he talked about the dragons. One of the things he says right before his scene with Grey Worm and Missandei ends and he shows up at the Mereenese Dragon Pit (lol), was "It's time they have their supper". Then he frees them - BUT, only of their chains. He doesn't let them out of that space, just unchained them. So that's something to consider too, that they weren't just in a small space, they were chained too, which limited their area even more. Think it was like they got depressed at being chained and just stopped eating a lot.
How do y’all get the fancy numbers in green next to your names? Also, captivity will stunt growth of anything unless given special care. Food and Freedom is key here. He may have also been naturally slightly larger, as part of genetics, so maybe he got size, another got, I dunno, smell, and another got perhaps better shaped wings? Either genetics are environment, or both. But, maybe he would only have been _slightly_ larger than them, but he got way further ahead than average because of abundance of space and resources. Anyways, God Bless!
Pretty sure it’s because the other two spent like a season and a half locked up in a dungeon which was said multiple times to hinder the growth of dragons for whatever reason
It's probably a factor. But we dont know it to be true. Barristan suggests that as a reason in the books and jorah counters that he doesnt believe it to be a factor
His egg isn't bigger. That's just camera angle. He's bigger cause he's the only male. Which is wired, cause that's only in dragon lore. All other egg laying reptiles, the females are larger, this so they can sustain large periods of not eating for rearing young.
I was always under the impression that Drogon is bigger as he wasn't shut under the temple and had his growth stunted. Also could just be the writers forcing you to look at him because it was a tiny saving grace to the show 👏
I can think of two things. One, it could be a combination of all of these. They would all contribute to it, and in general animals grow at different rates and to different sizes. Drogon probably also did get more food after the other two got locked up, as he was free to hunt. But the other thing I can think of is, well, there could be something else significant that we’ll see in the last season. I have no clue what that could be, but it’s been abundantly clear ever since they hatched that the dragons were going to be important to the story, so we’ll have to see
He's bigger because he was able to rome freely. Rhegal and Viserion were locked beneath the pyramid of Mereen and probably didn't eat as much and so that experience probably stunted their growth. Drogon meanwhile was able to eat, fly and grow strong in the wild.
I wouldn't say because Drogon is female. Because it is known in the GoT universe that dragons can change their gender just like some species in our real world can.
Cab you do a vid on how much Drogon grew since season 7? It seems that we got a pretty good picture in the season 8 trailer to try and do a size comparison. Great vid as usual Kev!
Maybe its all 4 combined. Or maybe because dany had stopped conquering and locked herself away in the pyramid she stopped growing as a person and her dragons that she is bonded to sensed it and wouldnt grow with her. Drogon has always been a free spirit who loves his mother but like Drogo does as he pleases so still grows as her mighty sword.
I’m not a fan, but I believe her dialogue in the show saying “and we grew small as well” is regarding the status of the Targaryen family, not their stature per se. A little nitpicky, that.
When my dragons are grown, we will take back what was stolen from me and destroy those who wronged me! We will lay waste to armies and burn cities to the ground!

Yea but he was already bigger before they were locked away.
It’s even hinted that caged dragon’s magic withers. As stated in the dragon pit. The last dragons (who were in captivity were the size of an Apple stated by Tywin).
Pretty sure it's stated in the show that is why :p
When she locked up the two dragons they would refuse to eat, or would eat a lot less than they normally would. Food is a factor.
True, but Drogon have always been bigger. Remember when Daenerys bought the unsullied for one dragon. The sales man said they wanted the big one.
Even his dragon egg was bigger (atleast in the books)
And gender,
Balerion the Dread was male and dead at 220 aged old.
Vheagar female died at 183 aged old was almost as big as Balerion. Aged difference 37 years,
Gender matter in size
@Madhav Ignihir book FiRE and Blood
@Madhav Ignihir why where some dragons that big ? If Vheagar has reach age of 220 then she Will be alot bigger then Balerion at age of 220, she died at 180 and was almost as big as Balerion at age of 220
Another theory is that drogon is female in a lot of species the females are larger it's rumoured that drogon went off to lay eggs
Dragons can change their gender according to g.r.r.m
According to a character, a usually reliable character barth, but it may bit be true
How do you know a lot of animals espesly reptiles mals are bigger than female
RADIA DJAROUD no. With almost all reptiles (with the exception of crocodilians) females are larger than males. They have to be because they need to hold and lay eggs. It’s a pretty good theory that drogon is a female.

WW Redgrl15 fair point😂
I believe that Viserion and Rhaegal were much nicer than Drogon. They would never have killed humans.
Eshurkaev yeah viserion has been described as the most tame of the dragons
He's the alpha, was bigger from the start, and probably ate first and more than the other 2. He also wasnt shackled up underground.
Now lets see if anything I said pans out.
Reptiles (with the exception of crocodilians) don’t have “alphas”.
@@chrisnorris3641 Except, if Drogon had been locked up it he would have been smaller or ended up equal in size
@@SarastistheSerpent We're talking dragons here, they don't even exist so its plausible that they have what you would call an alpha
When Dany says “we grew small as well” she’s referring to how her house became less of a “great” house.
Because they felt less than they did with their Dragons
Because majority of the time…they’re worthless without the dragon
Majority of Targaryen family member are just lunatic
Comparing to all the other houses
Baratheon “great fighter,military genius,law enforcer…”
Starks “Honorable, great fighter, politics (not in a Shaddy way”
Lannister “Prideful, smart, military genius, politics (when in comes to self interest”
Targaryen? “Boo Hoo we can’t do shit without our dragon,Incest, going mad like it’s part of their puberty or whatever”
Its because Daenerys used Khal Drogos soul for hatching Drogons egg. And Drogo was a big man!!!
This is the theory I most believe!
Haha dats why Drogon was jealous when John was kissing Dany it was Drogo in Drogon
Na, if that was true drogan would of killed jon after seeing dany dead.
he is taller because comparing to his brothers he was not shut up under the Great Pyramid of Meeren. the dragons do not support captivating
Especially with those chains around their necks. Those were absolutely tight enough to stunt their growth.
It's literally stated in the books, and it's a common sense that if you eat more you get bigger
Drogon is often described as black and shiny and ferocious, much like Balerion the black dread, could it be that they are related and thus he is bigger?
akanksha shah No ..Drogon's egg was layed millions of years ago ..It became a stone that way ... His egg was layed before Balerion

@@bridge4 According to yourself GRRM said, "Targaryens are not immune to fire." That does NOT mean "Dany is not immune to fire." On the contrary, all evidence indicates very strong thermal insulation lining her skin and she survived otherwise fatal heat environments. @@bridge4 it doesn't matter what he says because she's clearly shown she is fire proof.

Yes Dany killed him so I figured she unknowingly traded his life for a dragon egg

maybe drogon is a reincarnation of drogo, the way drogon looked at jon in ep 1 of s8 lmao
I think Drogo's life was unknowingly traded for Drogon when Dany mercy killed him
the 4th theory is like when he was goes to the sea to grow bigger cuz he is aquaman
Haha exactly. I had forgotten the definitions until I saw one of colbert's semi recent videos with his boy Neil DE grass Tyson who was like "actually, you're referring to a hypothesis, not a theory"

On top of that, good communication is more about being understood than being grammatically correct. So I've debated going back to theory
On the other hand, I definitiely have an internal "evil" Lil laugh everything I say hypothesis, knowing that I'll be judged for it by people who don't realize the twuth! :))
The eggs may have been from different clutches too, genetically different. Dany is bonded to Drogon and wants him to grow quickly. Do you think there are any wild undiscovered dragons in remote planetos?
that birth of danys dragons had a material impact on the level of magic in the world. So I think hers are the ony three dragon's
(Not counting the wyverns of sothroyos since those are a natural species)
Agree about separate clutches BTW :))

So a dragon theory? Huh
lol well played jamilla
I think all af the theories are reasons for drogons size, but I think you missed to mention the (boring but kind of important) fact that not all dragons grow with the same speed. Of course it is important that they eat properly and don't get locked into tiny caves, and even the volcano-thing (which is really interesting btw) plays a role, but as boring as it might be, dragons just don't all grow the same speed...
like humans and other animals too so it does make sense
I miss your videos!
Hey!! I know it’s been a year but I love your vids so much!
holy crap it's everyone's favorite lil fox Alteori. lol
My friend has 3 sons. One is substantially taller and heavier than the other two. It just happens - no mystery.
1. Viserian and Rheagal where locked away in captivity and Drogon was left out. 2. They never said they were from the same dragon. Its just said that they were from the shadow islands. So potentially he could have come from bigger dragons. But that's just my opinion 🤷🏽♀️
That would explain there colouration difference
Maybe the Cannibal was Drogon's sire
Or mother if it was somehow a female
He's just a bigger, more dominant Alpha, just as some wolves in a pack are larger and more dominant by nature.
Actually, have you ever seen a reptile FLY?(no, gliding from trees doesn't count as real flying) There were flying dinosaurs, but those had feathers and more in common with a modern day chicken than a reptile.
hint: Dragons aren't reptiles. lol
Watching the other dragons follow Drogon as he flies means he's a leader, not a follower.
Since dragons can’t really be sexed, well never really know.
he is taller because comparing to his brothers he was not shut up under the Great Pyramid of Meeren. the dragons do not support captivating
@@raphael1133 he was bigger and more dominant before they locked up the other two under the pyramid.

These recent videos have been blowing my mind. But I don't see how you can say there are no special humans, when you have wargs and the three eye raven.

Magics definitely real. But humans are humans. There are no special humans
@@bridge4 Actually Kev, I have to disagree ... all humans are special. :-)
Now when you're writing, the only limitation a character has is based on the author's creativity and writing ability.
“Ser barriston the badass” ahhhhhh another man of class I see
My theory.
Drogon is bigger because he is linked with her rider from birth.
Now that Jon is there then The next dragon will start growing 🤔
Stas Clarke he dead 💀💀💀
Not anymore sadly. .. man that pissed me off... I was so glad that rhegal even survived the great war. And then wham! D E A D
Nicholas W.M. I think he’s alive.. like he showed in the video dragons can fly threw water. But also in episode 5 teaser at the end there’s a dragon scream. And it does not sound like drogon, it sounds like rhageal and Euron seems pretty shocked
@@rasmuspersson8225 Coming Back Bigger Than Drogon (Hopefully)
I was wrong. You're right. I'm with ya ::))
:insert-last-f**k-here: rheagals still alive, you can see him flying in one of the “next episode scenes”
Access to an abundance of food as well as a spacious environment plays a significant role in growth. I've seen this over the years with my aquatics pets, especially goldfish.
Feel like "blood of the dragon" leans more towards Dany being fireproof
Great post. It surprise's me that yall go so all out in providing insightful commentary. And much appreciated!
Is been on my to do list for awhile. Bought book 1 after 4 years ago probably, and my favorite author finishes the series :))
@@bridge4 Brandon Sanderson, did amazing in the books. He actually took it a little darker, which it needed. I just started reading mistborn. He has me hooked.
Which mistborn are you on, book 1?? It's my second favorite series by any author... second to stormlight archive, ergo "bridge four"
George R R Martin: Ya'll tripping. I just wanted one dragon to be bigger than the others because my grandchildren wanted so.
“Ser Barristan the Bad Ass” love it
Im pretty sure that in the TV show someone said that the dragons in the prison didn't eat as much as expected
Hang on, in the show, Tyrion took their chains off them; they didn't bust out of them.
( I am a friend of your mother I am here to help please don't eat the help) ; )
Was about to write a comment about that but figured I'd see if anyone pointed that out before me, and what do I see, an Isaac wrote the comment.. I guess 2 Isaac's think alike, because that's my name middle name even though everyone calls me that over my 1st name..
Leslie M. Isaacs yes, but the dragons still broke free on their own. they then burned through the walls and flew out.
Just like to note that tyrion took the chains off them in the dungeon, they never broke free of the chains themselves like you said, only broke through the walls
I think that is what he ment.
Didn't Tyrion free Rhagal and Viserion while Dany was away from Meereen "in the show"?
Yup. He unchained them. Then they broke free themselves by burning through the walls
@@bridge4 Hi, just wondering about your point in the video that 'there is no such thing as the Blood of the Dragon', with respect to the Targaryen's. But how is Dany's being impervious to fire and heat explained then please? Thx, great video as always :)
They were still locked up a min doe
bridge4
In your video you said they broke free from their chains.
I always thought that drogon was bigger because of his freedom and food, but watching this video made me learn much more, thank you.
Jonathan Duggan maybe they are
A different species of dragon
In season 6, when Daenerys was away with Drogon, the two other dragons refused to eat. This would benefit the food theory.
drogon wasnt locked away so he grew more. one of the lannisters (i think) explained how before dany that dragons where locked up and didnt grow much
Yes it was tyrion.
you forget something even better than the volcanic factor. Way back on season 1 ,Dany placed the egg at the hot coals for like half a minute !
I think they're all the same type of dragon... He's just the alpha out of the litter...
he is taller because comparing to his brothers he was not shut up under the Great Pyramid of Meeren. the dragons do not support captivating
Besides. The size difference wasn't *as* significant until they got out of lock up.
possibly. i do believe that can be a factor, but personally, i dont believe that the size of their enclosure stunted Rhaegal and Viserion. there are two other reasons i lean on as to why drogon is bigger. one is fact. and second is theory.
So I probably can't add any new ones to my list, at least not until s8 is done, sorry
My guess is that viserion won't grow but rhaegal will, as you were eluding to
So size difference depends on how much tines passes before he's probably killed
A decent amount of time has to go by in between s7 and s8 or during s8, since dance has to get to full term. So the difference between rhaegal and viserion will depend on when he goes down
My guess is that he'll be 50% bigger in terms of mass
@@bridge4 that's all I was hoping to hear! Lol
You're saying Rhaegon, it's Rhaegal my friend!

Rhaeger was her brother, rhaegal is teh dragon peeps
Any chance that Drogon might be bigger because he descends from Balerion the Black Dread? I could be wrong but I don't think it's stated anywhere that the three eggs were from the same parentage?
Agreed, that is stated in the books multiple times - Drogon is Balerion reborn.
Tyrion explained why in season 6, episode 2 around the 23 minute mark. After a few generations of being in captivity, the dragons were no larger than house cats.

In history lessons, while reading books or watching "our" TV series, I always asked myself WHY on hell did the powerful people have their power?! Why did normal folks fear the monarchs?! That's deep. I like how your head works!
@@bridge4 not as good as yours 😂😂
Promise me Ned
Very nice theory I like that one.

I hope you continue to do these types of videos after the show ends. #ThronesForever
I have over 300 outlines right now. Lost track of time tho, so I've prioritized and I'm doing as many prediction type theory videos as I can had of the season or the episode in the season in which ki expect the theory to unfold
But there are at least 100 videos that I can still complete post season. Theory videos that are interperative as oposed to predictive, my top fighter series, and other stuff
So as long as I can scrape by and pay the bills, I'll be making GoT and ASOIAD videos until the prequel comes out (also going to do the Witcher, Lord of the rings, maybe watchmen but probably not, wheel of time, and kingkiller chronicles - and occasionally brandon Sanderson stuff sonce he's my favorite author and I expect mistborn and stormlight archive to come to screen eventually

Khal Drogo was probably a big Person, bigger than Viserys or Rhaegar. Maybe that's why Drogon is also bigger because of that connection to Khal Drogo we don't know
Nice Kev! Especially liking your thoughts on Danny's sentence about her dragons, cause Boom.... you blew that up like Wildfire on the Black Water! 🔥😎
haha, ur funny. thanks, S!
Given the Night King in S8 I'm starting to think it's a good thing that Viserion and Rhagal were locked up for a bit IF that's what played into their lack of growth.
Gaby Henrie it’s also why Drogon survived, he could take on his smaller bros or sisters and come out on top
(Not sure about the books, but I don't recall that off the top of my head)
Wish I had know that for this video, cause it seems food also played a part as well
@@bridge4 Yeah, when Tyrion is trying to manage Mereen while Daenerys is with the Dothraki, he talked about the dragons.

*Because Drogon gets the D riding.*
D= Dany
His egg isn't bigger. That's just camera angle. He's bigger cause he's the only male.
Which is wired, cause that's only in dragon lore. All other egg laying reptiles, the females are larger, this so they can sustain large periods of not eating for rearing young.
Cant recall but I think the quote is on screen. His egg is said to be bigger in the canon
Dragon's have no set sexes.
Oh, you should suggest Dani to fly her dragons to Valyria...
I suggest she kill them. Well I guess bow is a bad time to do that. Fly to valyria for a bit, win the war for the dawn, then put down the dragons :*(
@@bridge4 why do you want her to kill them?
Why do you have the number 2 behind your name?
Drogon is bigger because hes The Big Black D.. he was born that way
THE END
(That's why Dany preferred riding him)
Random's Favorite Things nice 👍 that made me laugh
I always thought that maybe Drpgon is bigger because its a female.
I wouldn't say because Drogon is female. Because it is known in the GoT universe that dragons can change their gender just like some species in our real world can.
Those dragons were so so small and now they’re bigger than a boat lmfao
Cab you do a vid on how much Drogon grew since season 7? It seems that we got a pretty good picture in the season 8 trailer to try and do a size comparison. Great vid as usual Kev!
aaah. food and freedom! sounds like a good recipe for success to me!
What do you mean there isnt anything special about Dany? Shes fire proof! She doesnt have the blood of the dragon?

@@bridge4 ahhhh, yeah I just have watched the show...... 3 times through lol. I'm sure I'd love the books
How does she withstand the fire then blood magic
Im pretty sure she is fire proof, at least in the show.
In the books the Targaryens aren't fireproof. It was added to the TV show tho
I think the “we grew small too” line is meant to be as metaphoric as you think it is.
I’m not a fan, but I believe her dialogue in the show saying “and we grew small as well” is regarding the status of the Targaryen family, not their stature per se. A little nitpicky, that.
Viserian-> VISERYS Targarian
Rhaegal-> RHAEGAR Targarian
Drogon-> Khal DROGO
