One might argue that we all interfere with one another’s lives to some degree, when we live and participate in society no? The question becomes, when is that interference warranted and appropriate? For example, those seeking to police the language of others, their ability to speak the truth and describe the reality of the world around them, might be seen to be ‘interfering with other people’s lives’. The odd insistence by some that one can ‘own’ pronouns is something I’m prepared to oppose, as I find it particularly egregious. Another example might be, the insistence of some men that they be given access to single sex spaces which are designated for women and girls. I’d say that could be deemed ‘interference’ and as such I am prepared to strongly object to that as well. And finally but by no means least - indoctrination of children into an ideology which deliberately seeks to confuse their sense of biological reality, lie to them about being able to change sex and potentially lead them down a path of medicalisation for life and - I very much believe that to be ‘interfering’ - not only do I oppose this ‘interference’ but it’s the hill I’m opting to die on.
Indeed. I mean it’s not like she could be on the other side though is it? I mean if you think about it the gender idealogy is so regressive and antithetical to rational thought that there aren’t any good thinkers on that side of the debate. Which is why they don’t engage in debates and why the cult protest wherever these impressive people speak.

Thank you to Helen Joyce for pointing out so well that the Emporor has no clothes. The world is in a strange place when one can actually be arrested and lose ones job for saying that someone with a penis is not necessarily a woman. Not so long ago that was rather self-evident.
As an Irish woman, I'm really impressed by the interviews I've seen with Helen Joyce. She's right that there seems to be a silencing process around her book here. I did manage to get hold of it but had to specifically ask for it in a bookshop. It wasn't on display. I tried to get the Graham Linehan memoir the other day and managed to create a fuss in the bookshop by even asking (I enjoy doing this sort of thing just to make a point about freedom of expression and censorship). It wasn't on display, the staff member spent 10 mins looking for it in storage, and I got the impression from a tense conversation between staff members there had been an incident where a batch of copies was damaged. I've had a lot of encounters with the left in the past due to being part of it on certain issues, and had already noticed the tendency toward herd-like dogmatism. However, I've never come across anything like this sort of censorship. If a group is on the defensive to this degree, there is something deeply wrong (I know this anyway, after reading the Hannah Barnes book). By the way, gender studies did not always push this agenda. I studied it in the '90s when it was still Women's Studies and it was more about freedom of (gender) expression within the boundaries of the gender you were born into and reclaiming women's history and literature, as well as studying gender patterns in society from a sociological point of view - the idea of changing gender was not on the agenda at all at that time. I'm assuming this discipline has now been hijacked also (I'm out of touch with what's happening as I write in the IT space now, which is a lot less contentious obviously, though I have encountered it aired in some of the more trendy IT companies, where there tends to be massive virtue signalling).
Which bookshop was it? If in Dublin, I will also go in and ask for the titles! I’m a former librarian, now an artist; I would have considered myself left of centre but now I’m apparently far right…it is frightening and frustrating to see what is happening. It’s a cult as far as I’m concerned.
Hi @@healingcreationsmandalaart5056 - Dubray Books, Mary Street, Dublin (just up from the Ilac Centre, and opposite the Jervis St. Centre). I empathise! Though, I don't think it's far-right to query what's been happening with giving children puberty blockers and transitioning them, or to defend women in sports, or to speak out in favour of women's privacy in public spaces such as changing rooms or bathrooms, or to say it's wrong for male sexual predators who suddenly decide to 'self-identify' as women to be placed in women's prisons. It's definitely very cult-like, this ideology. I am not even posting under my usual name here because my own industry is permeated by it and I'd rather not lose my job. It's really really scary, what's happening: I only realised the full extent of it in the last couple of years, and it's dawned on me that I may feel the need to make a stand properly at some point, and do some financial planning accordingly (I know from previous experience about the need to have a bit of a nest egg if you do serious activism). This is one of those strange times when the concerns of the radical feminists converge with the concerns of the evangelical religious right. It happened in the '80s for a while with the profileration of pornography, but I'd say this is even more important.
You’re correct about gender studies and education in general being captured. If I could suggest another book for your reading list, Cynical Theories, by Helen Pluckrose and James Lindsay, examines the roots of Critical Theory, of which gender studies is just one offshoot. Pluckrose and Lindsay are academics and the book can be heavy going at times due to the nature of what they're exploring (especially when unpicking the impenetrable prose of Judith Butler) but it really sheds light on how we got to where we are today.
@@nforne I will look into the books. I was also exposed to critical theory before in the sense that postmodernism had made inroads into the humanities around the time I was in college. I knew two people who went on to do post-grad in postmodernism at trendy U.K. universities, both of whom had mental breakdowns during their studies. Somehow, this fact sums things up in my head around that intellectual trend.
Plenty of non-transgendered 'narcissistic nutters'. Perhaps they should put their own house in order first before scapegoating a tiny minority of the population.

What you mean is for anyone who already doesn't want to beleive scientific fact and want affirmation from some charlatan who bases their research on talking to kids on twitter. She sits here listing off a whole load of blatant lies then has the cheek to say others speak fiction
Not really. It's just one of thousands of charlatans like her who want to bake a buck online but have nothing practical and positive to contribute to the world. So I steady peddles shite that I cites hatred and tries to pass it off as caring for others. She doesn't care about the welfare of them people she claims to. She's just another poultice who thrive off others hate It's not a hard thing to do making media at home I made a living doing it for years. It's always so heartearm7ng when majority people write hateful about minorities, the queens way really! I wonder if the queen, like Joyce, also read fanfic of Harry Potter involving children.
Do you actually have a point, Jesi? You’ve been informed that she read the material as a means to rebut it; do you bother to educate yourself about that with which you disagree, or do you simply scream at those whose views contradict your uninformed worldview? Additionally, do you think that bleating about ‘hate’ (and I wouldn’t be surprised if you whine ‘bigot’ or ‘transphobe’ at anyone who doesn’t support your worldview; have you called others ‘Nazis’ - showing your complete ignorance of history - if they won’t agree with your pseudo-religion) makes anyone listen to you? Why do you think it is morally virtuous to say that a man is a woman if he claims to be one? How does that make you a better person?
Helen you are just a person who sees things as they are. You are inspirational in that you're prepared to say them. It is brave in that, incredulously, it breaks the mould. Here's a new fact, she was recently caught reading fanfic involving minors on the train. Your Goto for transhate seems overlap interested in children. She gave the 'to catch a predator answer' of " I was doing research". Who wants to leave their kids with this person?
54:18 That barrette story, wow. . . 🤦🏾♀️ I was a tomboy who ABSOLUTELY would've been "diagnosed" as a trans boy if I'd been born in this century instead of the 20th century. And -- like many autistic kids -- I HATED any clothing or accessories that "grabbed" at me (like hair barrettes). They felt constricting and uncomfortable and "itchy". I even used to tell my biological parents I "should" have been born a boy. Not just "I wish" but "I _SHOULD_ have been born a boy" . . . especially when puberty hit me like an Australian Road Train. 😱😫 The thought of being "cursed" with this every MONTH completely grossed me out; and if I'd had access to puberty blockers, I definitely would've taken them. So I'm grateful there was no "opportunity" for me to get "gender affirming care", because now -- as a woman -- I have an intact body, and I wasn't sterilized, and I have good strong bones. And -- even as a woman -- I was able to find a special niche of work in a job I LOVED: Post-disaster response. I couldn't lift what my male coworkers could, of course; _however,_ my small size and female hip-flexibility were huge assets: I could access tiny, narrow debris voids which my coworkers couldn't fit into; and I could navigate across unstable fields of rubble without breaking through because of my lighter body weight. I'm not surprised an unusually high proportion of "trans kids" are on the autism spectrum, given the ridiculous alleged "cues" like the barrette story. FFS, I know plenty of very feminine women who don't like the way barrettes yank at their hair.
I have a six year old dinosaur obsessed princess. I dread to think what they’d make of her. I was also a Tom boy but I am a very happy woman in a fairly traditional marriage with two children.
Hair beads (and barettes AND rubber bands), were the thing for young black girls when I was growing up- now, that the spectrum is so wide and considering my family's mental health history, I may be located, on the spectrum lol - I hatedddd beads, barettes and rubber bands. I hated the hair grease, I hated hair appts. I now, wear my natural afro, most times if I don't straighten, at home🤍 Amen, to Liberations of all sort that require no maiming, or mutilations.
99% of trans people are happy with affirmation medical interventions, compare 85% of elective cosmetic surgeries. The number of kids getting cosmetic invasive surgeries is about 100x more as the barrier to it is parental approval, whereas trans people have to jump through beurocratic hoops.
All the Tomboys hating on trans women makes perfect sense. ((Some)) tom boys grew up hating women and are the worst misogynists, trans women are simply the easiest target for such "mean girls".

Transitioning isn't really a thing. You can only mutilate yourself. Adults should be able to do whatever they want but tax payers shouldn't subsidize it AT ALL. We also shouldn't subsidize detransition. If you go this path, go alone.
@DrDeuteron In my opinion, this particular topic should be geared around real mental health help and years of therapy. That will help kids and adults truly know if they are transsexual or if they underlying trauma. That way there would be no de-transitioners. It might also save some children who's parents are pushing them into transion at a very young age. Example Jazz Jennings. We as a society need to do better.
Yeah, I did. So keep your tax and keep the fuck out of my business. You're damn right we can do what we like with our bodies. I'm also a tax payer. A tax payer who employs 60 employees who all pay tax too. So don't sit there making out that you subsidise my life and Medicare. If I wanted to take tax payers help, I'd still be waiting. She's clearly a caring, feeling person. She's just...fantastic.
Her opinions are by definition hurtful to the trans community, so saying she’s caring and thoughtful….as if that matters, completely ignores what transgenderism is
@@DrDeuteron You clearly weren't paying attention. There is not such thing as a "trans community". @@DrDeuteronWhy are the things she says hurtful? She merely speaks the truth, not opinion. What exactly are you (or some in the trans community) taking issue with?
Thank you both for this great interview, I really do hope that it reaches wider audience, much as I hope that truth and reason will ultimately win. Another excelent discussion with Helen Joyce. I was irritated mid-way when Beckheim displayed his ignorance of parents' struggles with this insidious ideology gripping their beloved children, but Joyce did a great job of educating him. It was also valuable to hear at the end both all the ways Joyce is working to bring change, and how she then urged Beckheim and all listeners to stand up as much as possible to create change ourselves. Linehan got shunted even further aside, at the time, for comparing trans ideology's adherents to Nazis, so it was especially good to hear Joyce drawing out the analogy and really explaining it. Thank you for letting this be two hours long, not the usual shorter format of many podcasters.
@@ProkofNY Yes, it's an attempt to obtain authority over a subject without requiring or valuing objectivity. If a mouse has a superior understanding of the opression of the mousetrap, just because of its standpoint as a mouse, why do many mice still go after the cheese? The implication is that the superior type of mouse understands the mousetrap better than all the other mice, via its critical consciousness, and is not trapped. Hence other mice who do not share that understanding are inferiors who deserve their oppression.
@@liberality Yes, it is a sham that makes the ideology’s tenets basically unfalsifiable. Hence, standpoint epistemology makes the ideology religion-like. Also, the whole woke movement to me is emblematic of that movement in Animal Farm when the pigs add the “but some are more equal than others” clause to the rules of the farm. The ideology which doesn’t like to be named is one that centers double standards. No wonder Harvard finds itself where it is right now. Imagine, my husband was there in 2008, the year JKR gave its commencement speech. How far has the institution fallen since then? I believe we can blame standpoint epistemology, double stands and the loop they create for the abandonment of objectivity and Veritas (in case you are unfamiliar, this is Harvard’s motto).

I don't know that "gender identity" means "souls" (although it's obvious that many in the gender cult have this idea in their head). It's really more of a very poor attempt at psychological theory. We have theories like "self-identity" and similar terms around that theme (e.g. ethnic identity), which are all introspective, superfluously fancy ways to say 'how we see ourselves'. Although framed with the legitimising bow of 'theory'), it's still very lazy academia. The sort of thing a bad academic comes up with to justify their status, taking one obvious idea and then expanding it in even more useless ways. Any of us can do it. Look, I'll come up with my own theory right now: HAIR COLOUR IDENTITY - The psychological theory pertaining to one's subjective identity of one's hair colour. Sometimes, a person's hair colour is at odds with their subjective experience. Other people would describe my hair as blonde, but I think of myself more as a brunette. Well that's my tenure sorted.

Joyce reads fanfic involving kids on the train

Here's a new fact, she was recently caught reading fanfic involving minors on the train. Your Goto for transhate seems overlap interested in children. She gave the 'to catch a predator answer' of " I was doing research". Who wants to leave their kids with this person?
54:18 That barrette story, wow. . . 🤦🏾♀️
I was a tomboy who ABSOLUTELY would've been "diagnosed" as a trans boy if I'd been born in this century instead of the 20th century.
The thought of being "cursed" with this every MONTH completely grossed me out; and if I'd had access to puberty blockers, I definitely would've taken them.
Thank you for sharing.
Hair beads (and barettes AND rubber bands), were the thing for young black girls when I was growing up- now, that the spectrum is so wide and considering my family's mental health history, I may be located, on the spectrum lol

Amen, to Liberations of all sort that require no maiming, or mutilations.

I am a middle-class, progressive white woman. I'm probably as woke as you can get. But I am very happy that I learned about Helen Joyce. Keep it up! My respect.
I love the energy you give to the conversation as often academics don’t flow in conversation and often kink out if they have nothing to say . We often see the brain working whereas a good eloquent conversationalist lewis afloat and maintains rhythm . Fascinating great pod cast
Really sorry to hear about the sad state of affairs with Irish media. Helen is right in that any other best selling irish author would be all over irish media.
Henri, thank you. This was a fabulous, comprehensive interview. You asked good questions and you let her answer.
When my oldest son was 3, he began to want to play with dolls and cried because he wasn't a girl. Except for buying him dolls, I pretty much ignored his desire to be a girl. He grew out of that desire by age 4.
I'm not sure he even remembers that stage of his life. He's quite macho now.
I admire this women and thank her for her work❤
Great podcast! Nice to hear some different questions. Thank you.
Helen embodies down-to-Earth. Pragmatic.
excellent interview. thanks for this.
This is a subject I would so like to discuss openly, but because I work in a school, I can't take the risk of losing my job.
Edit: interesting how things can change. I now have a trans daughter. 😂 And I love her as much as I ever did.
Go ahead. Set yourself free. Own your bigotry.
@moif_velocita Believing in reality and biology isn't "bigotry".
Do you call people who aren't religious, bigots? No one has to believe in gender ideology. Calling someone a bigot because they don't believe in some random ideology based on very little, is ridiculous.
She is great mate
What a brilliant interview! Thank you very much...
☝️😎
Tak her fra Danmark til Henrik og Helen! ❤
Jeps..det var en fin samtale😊
Alltid interessant og høre fra Helen :) (Fra Norge her)@@jan8600
Helen, you are very interesting, calm, well researched, on point, articulate and fact based. Thanks.
As a Gay man, I am certain that were I a child today I would be pressured to transition.
No you wouldn't
@Vates104. Probably, which is the new face of homophobia. Transing a child is the new sinister version of gay conversion!!
By whom?
Look, I'll come up with my own theory right now:
HAIR COLOUR IDENTITY - The psychological theory pertaining to one's subjective identity of one's hair colour.
Sometimes, a person's hair colour is at odds with their subjective experience. Other people would describe my hair as blonde, but I think of myself more as a brunette.
Well that's my tenure sorted.
Helen Joyce…definitely the “thinking man’s crumpet”! Great job Helen.
Love to listen to her .. great voice and good wisdom.
Yet more wise words from Helen.
We are witnessing an era of unhealthy self-absorption and introspection
I will never put pronouns in my bio. Hell no, and Im a gay woman, who is a bit of a tomboy, but I think everyone knows Im a female. If they didn't, I would find that offensive. No need for pronouns. Whenever I see pronouns in a bio, I autithink the person isn't too bright.
Rent seekers, new term for me. Well described.
This conversation is so in-depth and interesting, even to someone already knowledgeable about the dangers of the gender religion. For the newly initiated it will blow some minds! Helen Joyce is incredible as always and Henrik is a great interviewer. Thank you so much for making this available for all.
Thank you for such kind words!
In depth? Haha. Thats a joke. It's shallow as fuck. It's all caused on social media crap. Yet she has the cheek to say that people like ME are indoctrinated by social media. 😂😂😂
It's easy to appear knowledgable when you're not being challenged.
@moif_velocita
What does she say that you can challenge?
@@moif_velocita Then the trans-activists should engage in conversation. They never do. They act like toddlers, shout and have tantrums.
Truly wonderful podcast!
We live in a guillotine society... Cutting people off from those "who don't agree with you," is a symptom of the lack of empathy our culture has engaged in. Narcissium has become the norm within our culture at epidemic proportions. The Culture of American Life in an Age of Narcissism Diminishing Expectations, by Christopher Lasch - is a great read to understand these symptoms of our image being at the helm of our lives....
Its also a psuedo religious shunning practice.
@@Gingerblaze I am well aware...
Good questions - brilliant answers, so very helpful! Thank you both!
Interesting to see Joyce on her liberal feminist journey. I hope she keeps up the critical thinking as she reevaluate the world of ideas she's previously thought were true. She's a powerhouse.
The stuff about mental health at 1 hour 31 is truly amazing.
Many trans young people I knew, they were over 18, were looking to go to Thailand for surgery as it was less expensive and easier to get. The several I knew were in a trans support group. These people were very poor and had severed ties with their families. Several had gone through homelessness after they aged out of youth support programs.
Ah so you're suggesting....?
This comment appears to lack a point...
The research indicates that these young people are on the autism spectrum and/ or same sex attracted with internalised homophobia and/ or have several psychological comorbidities.
I love it..Its a cult, a religion and "a particularly stupid (neo) religion.'"
Gave me a laugh, which I could really use right now...thank you
Helen, relaxed and at the top of her game. Really wonderful. Every Trans/gender believer should listen to this and attempt to argue why this isn't exactly on point. I doubt somehow that will ever happen...
FFS that is a moronic reply.@dunzodonalds
@dunzodonaldsExplain how she’s incorrect. By the way, she hasn’t lain out ALL her thoughts on the trans issue in this one interview, so you might think her viewpoint is too simplistic and therefore false (but it isn’t, she’s articulated quite sophisticated thoughts on this very silly topic), but where are you getting the idea she’s experiencing cognitive dissonance?
@@slacktoryrecords4193
You will never get an answer.
The wierd thing is that people with no rational arguments KNOW they have no rational arguments, which should make them stop and realise that their belief is an irrational faith - brainwashing - but they seem unwilling to follow the consequences of knowing their belief is irrational
Thank you for having Helen on. She is amazing. You're amazing (and dead cute). ❤
Shame on RTÉ ...
Great interview. First time to your channel. Cheers!
Thanks for a great overview of the problems with identitarianism.
Hobbycraft told staff last year not to gender identify a customer. No longer to say that man or that woman over there wants…
Totally ridiculous.
God bless you, keep going! The world needs you.
. Thank you, Henrik and Helen. These are subjects so depressingly and dangerously insane I have despaired of the world in which my children are growing up . To have this discussed so calmly and rationally is a balm to my soul. Glad to know I'm really not losing the plot. Thank you both so much.
