The last MOT on that was 'Bent' A nice little cash in hand earner for the tester! 😂 You need to take that up with VOSA with your evidence and get that MOT garage closed down. You may save a few lifes!
In reality you'd get nowhere with this - the MOT took place in June, nearly 9 months has passed so you can make the argument that anything could've happened to it since. The tester would simply say they tested it as presented at the time. The discs actually make me think its possible (not trying to make excuses) that the car has actually been submerged sometime since the MOT - the country's had an awful lot of flooding in recent months it's not beyond possibility that it has been sat in water at some point since. I say this because 'bent' MOT's are not as easy to acquire as the internet likes to believe; there's a shortage of MOT testers and they're paid good money to do the actual job. There may still be the odd backwater car-dealer-whos-next-door-neighbour-runs-MOT-station situation out there but not many, most MOT testers would think the 'backhander' is a trick anyway. Even if said backhander existed, you wouldn't do it for such an obvious case like this. You'd turn a blind eye to sill holes, claiming you didn't see it due to undertrays being fitted etc you wouldn't do it for this - even a regular customer would spot those discs and ask questions.
@@mjsee08 Spot on. I thought the same. That car looks like it has been up to near it's floorpan level in the sea. I worked in marine and factory environments for 30 years and I don't think most people realise how quickly mild steel can corrode in an adverse environment when its protective coating is compromised or missing completely, particularly if some level of corrosion is already present..
I hope you can report the MOT place that gave the Aygo a pass, it’s clearly bent, putting the driver and everyone else close by in danger, disgraceful! Great video as always, hope you have pkans for Joe at Shifting Metal, I love the wind ups between you!
Used to work for an independent land rover company. A guy bought a really cheap 300 tdi with a 12 months' mot and wanted us to check it over. It was rotted out! It was registered in Scotland. Plenty of salt on the road's. Should never have had a mot.
This is a typical Scottish car James! I've had them bite me before, they are always in the salt. The "S" in the first part of the reg. no. should be the big warning!!
I swear I’ve never seen such a bad subframe James , good god m8 . Our 2008 mini D cooper had an advisory on surface rust , I had a look and it was pretty solid but wire brushed and used rust converter any way . People need to find the confidence to get under their cars , safely , and save oodles of money by simple cleaning and checking! Good luck with it James your channel is great thanks.
A really good example of why you shouldn't rely on an MOT for a full picture of a car's condition underneath! Don't envy Pete fighting with all those rusted and seized bolts on that sub frame and then there's the state of the discs - I think that Aygo must have been parked in the sea! Hope he was well remunerated for his efforts 🙂
Judging by the SB reg it may well have been a car that spent most of its life in a coastal location on the west of Scotland. As you say, given how popular these are with young drivers, some inexperienced driver could have ended up in a death trap had it not been bought by a dealer who does things properly
James, you seriously need to report that MOT station to the relevant authorities VOSA is it? That car was not only seriously dangerous for the driver but other drivers who may have also been involved in the accident. MOT testers like this are as dangerous as the cars they falsely pass as fit for the road. I’m absolutely disgusted at what you have found!! Well done as always mate 👍🏻

West of Scotland Aygo is a nail. As a Scot I'd be ashamed of that . Once a week regardless of the weather I get the hose out and clean off the salt from underneath each wheel arch. Neighbours all think I'm mad but I get the last laugh as my cars sail through their MOTs.

is there no comeback from the auction as definately should have been sold as scrap? if under salty water that rust would appear within weeks so MOT may have been kosher
Aygo was Ay-gone! They do like to rot, but that looked like it had been in a canal. Maybe you're finding out why it was moved on; none of this work would be viable if the previous owner had put it into a garage to be done. MOT definitely needs reporting, she was one hole or speedbump away from falling to pieces. It'll be the best Aygo of it's age though, now it's had the Chops treatment. Good job the bits are cheap eh? I loved my 2009 C1, was a great little car, and very easy to look after. Shame yours didn't get that from the last owner.
I think after the front subframe was identified, they were at sunk cost state (plus parts were cheap as chips); I don't know how much he paid for the car but it's basically had a full restoration at this point!
This Aygo reminds me of a Metro a relative had in the 90s. Bought in August with a fresh mot and totally solid, but driven through a salt water ford to get job in a restaurant every day. By Christmas you could put your fingers though the sills. Maybe this is similar.
