I collected a guy from our local railway station about 8 miles away to show him a car. He insulted me with the price he offered, even after I'd explained the costs involved. But the comment that 'all you dealers are the same' was too much, so I told him to get a taxi back to the station and had the pleasure of watching him wait an hour for it.
I said that to someone who was interested in my car (Private sale) but a sold it at a lower price of £300 as they offered me £500 off a £3,000 in early 2000's, was damn good clean car & we both knew it.
I’d have put his “30k” camper van through We buy any car , then show him the price probably 20k , and tell him he can buy the Aygo for 800 if you can buy this 30k camper van for 20k as suggested by WBAC
You can’t go of we buy any car like that as they always give lower price because they sell them on through auction and give very low prices they said my Peugeot 207 2010 automatic sports top trim edition with very low mileage was worth £2,300 auto trader said it was worth £3,400 and a few garages offered part exchange for between £2,950 and £3,000 and that was just for part exchange and one garage said they would buy it off me anyway even if I wasn’t buying the car of them as it was a good spec car we buy any car is actually a scam I sold it private and got £3,200
All the Aygos i have seen for sale of that era are priced at where you are or around 3k. They hold their value because they have good rep for reliability and cheap to run. I have never seen an Aygo down at £800/ 900
Is that a UK thing still to be that polite? US, we would chase the time waster away real fast. Also, I never had any luck selling Hondas or Toyotas. You have to pay a premium for them, and every buyer is trying to beat you down hard on the price.
James, you need to print out on a sheet of A4 the process. So purchase cost to you, prep, mot costs, service, vat, tax on your wage, premise costs, insurance etc. Get some laminated to stick on the wall and some to hand out to people who are clueless.
He wanted it dirt cheap to tow behind the camper and not pay the extra on the camper insurance to have it fully comp, for when he's doing his travels on the continent
I had a girl turn up to buy my Ford KA privately and she did exactly the same. I told her show me an advert for that price and I will match it. Needless to say she couldn't find one. Information is great until someone uses it when they don't understand what that info means!
best one i had was we agreed a price, bloke turns up with a rented trailer moaned that i wouldn’t knock £500 off. he said there was one just down the road from him cheaper. ok why didn’t you buy that one then? i don’t know what goes through peoples heads. always worse selling car than it is buying.
Popped by this afternoon James I was the guy with the nice Transit you commented on . Will be back when my daughter is ready to swap. It was bloody wet .
James, when the piece of paper appeared you should have shaken his hand, said lovely to have met you, and walked back inside for a cuppa. You knew what was coming and that all explanation and justification is a waste of breath.
I always find the most useful info is to try and work out how long a car has been in stock, esp for main dealers who often get generous after 30 days. The price matters, but their level of desire to move the car on is at least as useful.
My niece my late brothers daughter has a 61 plate C1 and loves it. My other niece be due to take her test soon she wants an Audi I said work your way up a C1 , 107 Aygo or even a Fiat 500 would be a good car to start off with, her friends are lucky to have mammy and daddy buy their cars but my sister isn’t in that position. Would prefer her to get a C1 mind being the Citroen Nut that I am keep it in the family like lol. But your right it will make a great first car for someone.

Had to look on Autotrader and the cheapest 11 plate car was £1500 and it needed paintwork and looked like it had a rear end bump with missing paint and a badly fitting bumper. Also looked like it had some welding done.
I’d have been really evil and taken Aygo viewer to G3 and Aston Barclay and bought him lunch. Set up an account and bid on an Aygo. He’s in for a shock.
It does baffle me how some peoples minds work. I’ve walked away from deals because of the difference between PX offer and retail price of my car but it was against something that was priced above average on autotrader. The next dealer I visited doubled the original PX offer so I felt justified walking away from the first.

Hi James, a question for you if you dont mind, i bought a car from a dealer last Saturday been driving it for a week now and noticed that the start/stop system does not work and never has since i have had it do you think i should contact the dealer or fix it at my own cost, i paid 16,500 for the car a week ago with no discount given, your opinion would be much appreciated thank you in advance. keep the vids coming thanks James.

Very unlikely that any Start/Stop system will be working in the cold weather we've had this week. Wait until it warms up a bit & then if it still doesn't work get the dealer to test the battery as above 👍
Agree it's the AGM battery. Put a charger on the battery, or take out on a good run and it will likely be fine again. But if you only take it for short drives or let it sit in the driveway for extended periods of time then no start/stop will be the norm (as is the case with me).
You need to remind them that WBAC buy cars for peanuts and just chuck them through the auctions for a fast penny. They do not sell cars and do not service cars or check them in any way.
James your a nice guy,but giving time to these idiots makes you an enabler, I think it's time to take a deep breath and tell people the price you see is the price you pay,SIMPLES!!!
People don't seem to understand everybody - like them - has to earn a living. Plumbers, builders and car retailers are just working people making a living.
if people find prices with dealers too expensive, they need to buy cars from private sellers, without warranty, more work post purchase tough but quite often better insights into the care/history of the car. I never liked not seeing the owner. A 10 minutes chat, seeing his/her house and other cars owned by the seller gives invaluable insights. But yeah, this requires extra research, extra work as there is no warranty.....but for me has been worthwhile. I just cannot pay an extra 20% for a 6 months warranty when the likely hood of having a problem is 10% and even if you have a problem, it costs a lot less than the 20% overhead.
I would not say there is a 20 percent difference between dealer and private. On a 3 to 5k car often there is very little difference at all as most private sellers use dealer pricing as a guide
As soon as he said about £800 rather than saying you will match autotrader you should have said the cars just gone up by 800 to £3500. Whenever you can avoid doing business with stupid people make sure you do. Because Mr Mokka will turn to Mr Aygo
I saw a car I liked until I looked at the last mot. It passed but with advisories for corrosion in places that were obviously going to be a terminal fail next time…
Red flag surely, he's the last thing you need. If that 30k camper was a used one, the seller must been a saint! Imagine the questions he asked that person "can you be sure no one has farted in the bed"
What a timewaster . Would it be worth asking them up front to confirm their budget and then don't show them anything outside that budget ? He'd be lucky to find one on someone's drive for £800 and what sort of state would it be in ?
"2011 Toyota AYGO 1.0 AYGO GO VVT-i 5d £950|123,000 miles" found an ad for this one, but it asks you to check for availability. Put me money on, unfortunately its sold but we do have this one that's considerably more expensive.
They try your patience don't they, I've had a few of them this week and always seem to get them when you're quiet! I'd have said if the car is still here in 3 weeks come back and I'll talk to you about the price

There some chancers around like that bloke, a friend just bought a 2014 Renault Captur 1.5 Diesel. She asked me about it now I know Citroens in general but I remembered you highly recommending the Captur 1.5 Diesel as you have sold a few yourself so I told her that, just like you the dealer put a new MOT on it even though it only had one back in July. All their reviews 5 star they delivered the car up from South to Mid Wales for her and she’s well happy, she didn’t even haggle on the price. I bet you was mega peed off with that bloke. What an insult to you.
The fact he has a camper probably explains it, he is just after a little cat to tow around behind the camper to use locally when he's off camping so he doesn't need to drive around locally in the camper van. Someone you definitley don't want to do business with.
Don't get upset with your Aygo buyer. He probably is a new driver and is buying his first car, who has no idea about car prices and saw we buy any car advert on TV.
No my mates buying light damaged £600-£800 gems outta copart and £100 usually fixes them . Then he’s got a car that’s pukka bar the cat n yet half price
Sounds like the type of customer you just don't want, would be on the phone about every little thing...tickets bought for the raffle, just need to decide if I want the fiat or the mr2 😂
but i can go to G3 and buy for potentially cheap, but accept its all on me. that's the issue, the public want cheap with no risk. i'd personally punt it but the wife said no!
Standard mark up is 2k gross profit for dealer at that price point. Prob bought it at BCA auction where WBAC sell them at 9500 plus costs so prob netting £700 to 800 after costs
Honestly - what's the deal with some folk? How deluded do you have to be to a) expect a £2.7k, 13 year old car to have never required repairs to get through the MOT, and b) to get it for the pittance WBAC would offer them for it? Sheer madness!
The two things people no before they set off to view is price and colour makes me laugh when they say it’s overpriced I say I would never waste my time going and viewing something over priced Y wouldn’t u spend your time looking for 1 well priced Well yours is a nicer colour better service history low owners full mot etc etc And that’s y mine is not the cheapest sir 🤣🤣🤣
Omg, what is wrong with these people, he doesn't understand there are so many hidden costs when preping any used cars for sale.. i wish him luck finding a good car for £800 😂😂😂
I collected a guy from our local railway station about 8 miles away to show him a car. He insulted me with the price he offered, even after I'd explained the costs involved. common sense is check on autotrader for a idea of what a car is worth with similar age and mileage and we buy any car always offer crap money

Don't get upset with your Aygo buyer. He probably is a new driver and is buying his first car, who has no idea about car prices and saw we buy any car advert on TV.
Tbh that Aygo is at a great price because all the high hopers here in Bournemouth are "trying" to sell the same for £4995.God awful town to buy cars.
Bloody hell that's pricey
@@ChopsGarage Yeah its ridiculous here James.
This is the sort of person you don’t sell to these days. So sad you actually have to vet the buying public!
You are too nice but some people think all cars should be mint and rock bottom prices.
True
The days of the 800 pound car are long gone.
Well that depends how much time you spend in drive throughs lol fiat is lhd
but i can go to G3 and buy for potentially cheap, but accept its all on me. that's the issue, the public want cheap with no risk. i'd personally punt it but the wife said no!
You would never of got this from G3 at 800 odd would of done 1500 easy
James how do you attract so many nutters , you would think he'd have a carer with him on his day outs
Some people have no idea think the Aygo guy is doing to much google seaching lol
I sold my Crossland to we buy any car for £9000 I then found it up for sale for £11500 so that says it all
Standard mark up is 2k gross profit for dealer at that price point. Prob bought it at BCA auction where WBAC sell them at 9500 plus costs so prob netting £700 to 800 after costs
People go crazy about all this info, mot history, wbac, ruins the job, doesn't really do the customer any good tbh.
Honestly - what's the deal with some folk? How deluded do you have to be to a) expect a £2.7k, 13 year old car to have never required repairs to get through the MOT, and b) to get it for the pittance WBAC would offer them for it? Sheer madness!
some mothers do have em is more than alive and kicking in the 21st century
Lol
The two things people no before they set off to view is price and colour makes me laugh when they say it’s overpriced
I say I would never waste my time going and viewing something over priced
Y wouldn’t u spend your time looking for 1 well priced
Well yours is a nicer colour better service history low owners full mot etc etc
And that’s y mine is not the cheapest sir 🤣🤣🤣
Sounds very much like a Stan
A camper van? Dont even bother to argue with some body who thinks its ok to live and shit in a tin can..
Oh dear
@@ChopsGarage hahahaha
Talk about a chancer, 😁👍
Omg, what is wrong with these people, he doesn't understand there are so many hidden costs when preping any used cars for sale.. i wish him luck finding a good car for £800 😂😂😂
Dont know how you deal with people like that........
