I had Sick of it all, Cro mags, I got into some of the ( what we called) posi-core Gorilla Buscuits, Insted and Uniform Choice, and some random Straight Edge comps can’t remember any of those kind of like you said with some Of these
It’s funny cause I know all the bands now after 30 years, but when the scene was actually going on, I didn’t know half the bands that played nor heard them on record. Same with most shows, you went to see the headliners. I saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers open for Fishbone. Never heard of them before. Thanks for watching Shawn!! Appreciate it!! Cheers!!
Ive been waiting for you to show these type of records, I knew you had to have some. I never checked out Leeway, I always thought they were a hair metal band-think cause of thier name. Now that I know they are a killer band, Ill probably never find the records. Ive never liked Murphys Law either, I have a old skin friend that was heavy into them in the early 90s but I couldnt stand them. I dig Ludichrist, I just got the FOAD record with the demos and other stuff.
Hey Chris, thanks for watching!!! Yeah Leeway’s first record is good. I don’t know how well a lot of these records hold up these days. A lot of them were just meant for that moment in time. I can tell you with certainty that the first Murphy’s Law record is a classic and was well loved. But 35 years later and out of context it might not seem too sophisticated or heavy enough. Murphy’s Law were the most entertaining of all the NYHC bands and Jimmy was/is a master frontman. If you were in the middle of a Murphy’s Law gig in the 80s with a beer ball being passed around while 150 kids are bouncing off the walls and singing along to Crucial BBQ, you’d see what the record was about. Although a lot of the other records here I’m not gonna heap as much praise on. Hope you’re doing well!!! Cheers, Jon
@@bipbopboom Im doing good, I know Murphys Law has gotten a lot of praise over the years and I can see how If I had seen them I might of liked them more.

You are bringing back a lot of memories Jon. I love that Cro-Mags first album Age Of Quarrel. I saw them with Sam Black Church at the Channel. When you showed the Free For All album I remembered the band Wrecking Crew. Funny you showed it because I am almost 95% positive that they were on the same bill as Cro-Mags and Sam Black Church at the channel. I kind of remember seeing them. I think the band Youth Of Today are still out there shaking it up. Smashing video Jon. Your collection tell a tale about your punk and what it meant to you. You collected it, you lived it and you loved it. Remember Cantones? Rob/Boston
Thanks for watching Rob! Like you, I saw some hardcore shows and had great fun, but always loved all sorts of Rock n Roll at the same time. The 80s were a great time for music. Wish I could’ve seen more from that decade as I only caught the tail end. The first Boston show I ever saw was the Bad Brains at the Channel in ‘89. I know of Cantones and heard stories but it was before my time. Happy Easter!! Cheers!
I didn't expect to see YoT, much less Bold or Supertouch in your collection by assuming you are just one more thrash / crossover guy, WHICH IM GLAD TO SEE because most people stick with crossover bands and ignore or despises others like Bold, Supertouch, Burn, Shelter, which seems a shame to me because they are very good post-hc bands. I congratulate you, you have almost all classic recordings of labels that are historical today such as Revelation, Combat Core, Caroline, the first of Victory, even those of Profile Records (curious for a rap label at that time). I mention a few so as not to forget Killing Time- Brightside, Leeway - Desperate Measures, Burn, The Icemen, Madball .. great collection, I envy you!
Dario, thank you for watching!! Much appreciated! I’m glad you dug this one. I am no expert by any means and am missing quite a few important records. But that’s how it was, we didn’t have a ton of money and there was so many other records to buy besides hardcore back then. I wish I could go back and pay better attention to the bands I saw and bought more records. Oh well. We took everything for granted. There was great music everywhere in the 80s. I am glad I have some memories and some souvenirs from a small but important era in rock n roll history. Have a great day!! Jon

Hey Colston!!! Thanks for watching!!!! I think you probably got the best three already. I can’t really vouch for the other records too much, besides the first comp that was showed. Most of these I haven’t listened to in many years and they’re more nostalgic period pieces than great music records, that makes sense. They’re cool to look at and sample anyway. Hope you’re doing well!!! Cheers, Jon
Hey Jon. Cool stuff. I can remember back in the early and mid 80s, my friends and I would head into the city to see punk shows that were often 5 bands for $5 or 7 bands for $7. Saw great bands like DOA, SNFU, The Mother F*ckers, Big House, Dayglo Abortions and The Ripcordz. Good times! Take care and Happy Easter. Cheers!
Hey Chris!! Sounds like you saw some great bands!! I’ve seen DOA a few times but much later on. SNFU and Dayglo’s had some great records too! There was just too much great music in the 80s!!!! I think of all the shows I missed and bands I hadn’t yet heard of. Thanks for watching!! Have a great day!!! Cheers!!
I would have loved to have been in the NY Hardcore scene back in the 80's early 90's. My favourite bands were Agnostic Front, Madball, Sick Of It All, Murphy's Law and Biohazard. We have a bar where I live called Murphy's Law that I saw a Murphy's Law cover band play once. My god it was a hot sweaty night full of testosterone and body odour. Almost got a broken nose in the pit. I always love your stories and thoughts brother
Hey Nathan!!! It was a cool scene to see, but looking back, it was pretty dangerous and scary too. Not only in the pit, but also on the streets and subway stations back then. For me it wasn’t so much about the music, but the excitement of these shows and being with my friends . I think the bands you like were the best of the bunch. There was a lot of lesser bands and after awhile I couldn’t tell them apart. It wasn’t really my scene, but enjoyed the shows. Really appreciate you stopping by!!! Take care, Jon
Edd, luckily we didn’t have those kinds of skins in NY. It was dangerous enough without those guys. I don’t think racists would’ve lasted too long in NYC. You say the wrong thing then someone’s gonna belt you. Cheers!!!
How in the world did you manage to keep all the goodies from a rough and tumble punker lifestyle Jon? I never thought to save anything, just move on to the next good time. Make new memories was my moniker... I do wish I'd of given it a little more thought though and kept some keepsakes instead of giving them all away. I don't know, that kinda stuffs just not that important to me and never was I guess... Cheers.
Bobby I was no rough punker that’s for sure. Just a kid who likes different kinds of rock n roll. Bobby I didn’t have too much stuff to save. All my money went to records or shows. Luckily I kept most of my records and they’re not too beat up. Cheers!!!!
I had no idea they wore work gloves to shows. I have some NYHC albums but I never related to them. It seemed like a lot of them lived in squats. Something that seemed kind of hippish to me. I always assumed they didn't work either and as someone that always worked I didn't relate. I wasn't straight edge either. I used to party but it never interfered with my job.
Don’t let me give you the wrong impression. Everybody worked back then. There was only a small faction of the toughest of the tough that were on the streets. There was no sentiment for hippies or lazy seventies punk in this scene.it was pretty mandatory that you worked as soon as you turned 15 in working class New York no matter what kind of music you were into. The straight edge thing was overblown. The only reason most straight edgers were straight was because they were too young to drink legally. Musically east coast hardcore is not my favorite but it was a wonderful dangerous place to enter into as a kid. We didn’t have to option of seeing the Adolescents or D.I or the west coast bands very often. And I was still pretty young still. Thanks for watching!!! Cheers
@@bipbopboom You didn’t give me the wrong impression at all. I’ve just seen interviews with band members and other people from the NY scene and they quite often talk about living in squats. I’ve seen interviews with dudes from Long Island and the other boroughs of NY and they seem more relatable. I was joking about the hippy shit. I know it was tough living on the streets of NY but when you hear dudes talking about living in squats I’m always thinking get a job. NYHC is not my favorite Punk either and honestly by late 80’s I wasn’t going to shows. I was a lot older than most going to Hardcore shows.
@@vinylrichie007 yeah Richie, it’s probably the same with California. Not every punk was living like in the movie Suburbia either. Most people had jobs, homes and curfews. I had Sick of it all, Cro mags, I got into some of the ( what we called) posi-core Gorilla Buscuits, Insted and Uniform Choice, and some random Straight Edge comps can’t remember any of those kind of like you said with some
Of these
It’s funny cause I know all the bands now after 30 years, but when the scene was actually going on, I didn’t know half the bands that played nor heard them on record. Same with most shows, you went to see the headliners. I saw the Red Hot Chili Peppers open for Fishbone. Never heard of them before. Thanks for watching Shawn!! Appreciate it!! Cheers!!
Great vid as always herd of some of them bands we had the same scene was amazing
Hey Steve!!!! Yeah there was probably a scene in every city! It was a lot fun back then!! Thanks for watching!!!
I love those agnostic front Albums. I was a little older than you. I saw Agnostic front and they mentioned Deborah from devil doll production. She booked the hardcore shows in New Orleans.
Thanks Sak!!! I really don’t listen to much of this stuff anymore, but Agnostic Front were the best of that batch musically for sure!! Great live band!! Cheers, Jon
@@bipbopboom I'm talking about 20 years ago. When I worked the door at the dixie tavern which was big for the late 90 new Orleans hardcore scene.
@@sakblabbath3715 cool!!! I knew you weren’t talking recent stuff. I figured Deborah was someone from back in the day. We’re all old these days!! Ha!! Hope you’re doing well!!! Cheers brother!!!
Hey Jon, killer stuff man , I was not into hardcore but knew the names of bands. they would play small places in Chicago so I never made it out there.
Thanks for watching Vance!! There was probably a scene in every city those years!! Lots of good times!! Cheers!!!
Great video and awesome records. I’m actually gonna see Youth of Today and Side by Side in April. P.S I’m from California so Unjform Choice in the background is the best 😂
Thank you for watching!! I appreciate it! Very cool you’re gonna see YOT!! I saw footage of them recently and they looked like they put on a good show! Have fun! Cheers, Jon
Cheers!
I met Todd youth when he was playing with Bloodcot some years ago. Nice guy RIP
Very cool!! Cheers, Jon
Jon
Dude your channel is killer I was watching Jason Skillz live stream Friday and was digging all the great stories you shared Man you have killer taste in music and your collection is absolutely amazing! Wow some really great stuff here Love that Crumbsucker T-shirt We used to wear our sleeveless denim jackets over our leather jackets Haha! Don’t know why but we thought that looked cool I guess! We were into Metal I am a huge fan of the channel Keep rocking Man! Peace ☮️✌️👽🤘☮️
Brian, so sorry not to respond to this 5 months ago. Just found this comment glad you enjoyed the video! Always enjoy your vids even if I don’t comment on every one. Keep up the great work!! Hope you’re doing well! Have a great Sunday! Jon
@@bipbopboom Haha no worries John! Man that was after I first discovered your killer channel! And we’ re both still going strong! Peace ☮️✌️👽🤘☮️
Love these. Got that Murohy's Law record on import back in the day. Crumbsuckers & Agnostic Front got domestic releases here (UK). Will check out the others.

Thanks brother!! Appreciate you stopping by!! Jon
Happy Easter I bought a car from a Skin head. From back in the day He called it the Nazi staff car, Rough crowd They had a truce with the Metal heads
Edd, luckily we didn’t have those kinds of skins in NY. It was dangerous enough without those guys. I don’t think racists would’ve lasted too long in NYC. You say the wrong thing then someone’s gonna belt you. Cheers!!!
Nazi’s would get there asses stomped out in NYC back in those days.
We were skinheads from all backgrounds and races.
United as one!
SHARP!
Make no mistake this video was about hardcore, but it wasn’t the major part of my life. I was getting into the Stones, Sisters of mercy, Killing Joke and Velvet Underground at the same time this was going on. Jack of all trades, master of none. Cheers!!!
@@bipbopboom I used to have a hand silk screened Wall Of Voodoo shirt. Lino Lousy, a friend, asked me “Do you like those guy.” He couldn’t get that there was more to music than hardcore.
Any of those for sale?
Sorry brother, I don’t sell records. Thanks for watching! Appreciate it! Jon
Gonna check this Punk albums out! :)
I need to learn and listen to new stuff.
I have a contest out now. Hope to see you there! :D
Thanks for watching!!! Cheers!!
Sick of it all
Thanks for watching!! Appreciate it! Jon
i own that 45 by The Equals
Awesome! Thanks for stopping by Michael!! Cheers, Jon
If you were at all into skate culture some of these records filtered to you, despite not being in the city. I was a fat kid who couldn't skate, but my brother was a skater, so I have some distant knowledge from that. That sure did look like Pilgrim State.
Thanks watching for Kris!! Yeah I completely forgot about the skate thing!! A couple of my friends were skateboarders. We all owned skateboards and that was definitely how we got into a lot of this stuff. We were a mish mash of Metal heads, skaters, straight edge, and just plain classic/ hard rock fans. Long Island rats!! Hope all is well!! Cheers!!!
I found your channel and it seems cool so far and btw I make my own synth music and videos trying to help others :D hope to see you join my kind fun community the sinners! keep doing what you enjoy bruh
