Chen Yong Fa is the real deal,,,note the passion and vigor in his demonstartion Yes this is the REAL spirit of Choy Lay Fut He reminds me of my dear deceased Sifu John Lem who used to teach in Los Angeles It was a once in a lifetime opportunity I am very grateful for,,, He didn't just teach kung fu he taught about LIFE and how to be a better human being RIP Sifi Lem
With practice, Joints will get stronger. I don't practice CLF, I learned a similar movement: White Horse Descending a Mountain. After 3 years, with daily practice, the arms are suppose to be solid and flexible like steel. You don't want to be hit by this move. Counterattack: catch the tricep and wrist as the back fist comes down, and do a tai chi throw. Good luck on timing.
I'm glad to finally see a sifu that has proper form.. No.. in fact, good form with proper power. We need more sifus like these to post on youtube... instead of those "self-claimed" sifus out there...
as long as I know, This style is a fusion of northen and southern style. Otherwise, It would only have or punches or kicks. And I think this style is very balanced about the both
To anyone who is interested about MMA vs Chinese Boxing (aka Kung Fu), read Chinese Boxing Methods and Masters. There are full contact competitions in Asian countries like Taiwan. From what the author says, fights degenerate into fights throwing a lot of roundhouse punches. He also mentions their high pain tolerance. The Chinese also have their own grappling style called Chinna. It looks effective. Who would come out on top is not clear to me, as both can be effective.
For everyone who wants to know the real heritage of Choy Lay Fut, they are all in Guandong, are they splitted in two schools, Pak Sing wich focus on the long attacks, and Hung Sing wich focus on Short Range attacks, Pak sing is in Guandong itself, and Hung sing is in Qian Men(Guandong).
Mmm...I quess you are right 'cause our tai sihing Petteri is quite tall man and someone said he is the heavy weight champion of the world in CLF :) but that might be a rumor, I don't practise with him...
You expound on the greatness of fixed style yet are oblivious to the meaning and history of the very name you utilize. Jeetkunedo is the very essence of mixed martial arts.
me too my friend. im tired of all teh wanna be's and internet warriors who dont know anything about martial arts claim that MMA would beat any style. if i only had one chance to meet people like that in a dark alley...
I mean no disrespect or anything, from what Ive heard, CLF is a very good martial art, but it seems to be an awful lot of waving around with the arms, and what is the practical use for it. Granted, mobility is good, but doesnt your joints take damage from it?
actually its either or. You lose it in the romanization of the actual chinese words. Not to mention it depends on if your particular branch of choy li fut (choi/cai/choy li,lay/lei fut/fo/foot(?)) comes from a region that speaks mandarin or cantonese, or any of the other hundreds of dialects.
Chan Heung though that was right grab all he's knowledge and form a system with the proper name Choy Lee Fut. Choy in honor of the monk Choy Fook, who teaches Chan Heung for about 10 years, Lee in honor of Lee Yau San and Fut for Buddha....... so is CHOY LEE FUT
Ever heard of the Taiwanese swat team? Go watch them in action and tell me that kung fu isn't being used in one of the most brutal, effective law enforcements groups around.
Interesting! Where is this club? I'm practicing traditional hung gar and it looks like what I've been learning in choy lee fut when our sifu shows us this style.
Chen Yong Fa lives in australia, but there are many Chan Family CLF schools around the world, you can look them up in the wing sing tong international official page
Heh, choy lee fut ain't for long people only the basic moves are done with long arms:D then when you master those you can advance to the shorter ones...Just from this reply I can say you don't know anything..
look i already said if u believe wut u do just do do it, yea marching w/e a sweep and he will fall , choy lee fit 'c horse stance should be strong and steady not looking whimpy and waggles like this guys. And wut do u mean chan family? there is only one choy lee fut , its origin is that 3 masters, names choy ,lee and fut invented this style. And do u learn form this guy or someone with a simlilar style?
you dont have to use the wide movements in a fight u fool,if you do choy li fut you will become more conditioned and more athletic (harder+faster) so you can deal with an attack better, and my sifu came 4th in push hands in the world and hes not particular tall so dont be put off by height my foolish friend
ok first of all i have no idea wut u just said . and if u think he is right just practice wut u believe it, but notice that when he swing his arm in the beginning like an idiot his left leg keeps moving, it should just be his waist twisting and nothing else.
im at your mom's house come and get me. And u can just judge people over the internet grow up. The proper way to do the swings is to keep steady and is training your back stretching it out. but the way hes doing it hes makming it easy for himself by twisting his back leg instead of his back.
well 1st of all i doubt u can beat anyone's ass if u learn train like this. And i already fricking said if u believe what your learning is rgith then go on with it. Im just pointing out that this guy didnt go through the proper training and is now time of the people training under him.
@Fallschrimmjager No, Jeet Kune Do is nothing like MMA. MMA is just another style similar to all the rest for it still has rules; the very essence of JKD is to have no rules and or style or even fixed way of thought. MMA has rules and you only see similar styles (MT, JJ, Judo, etc etc) Do more reading into the philosophy that is JKD, because to say its like MMA, is to insult the very meaning of the philosophy and concept....
actually its either or. You lose it in the romanization of the actual chinese words. Not to mention it depends on if your particular branch of choy li fut (choi/cai/choy li,lay/lei fut/fo/foot(?)) comes from a region that speaks mandarin or cantonese, or any of the other hundreds of dialects.
yeah, i really like what chan family puts out. i think it's great how willing they are to share openly as well.
Chen Yong Fa is the real deal,,,note the passion and vigor in his demonstartion
Yes this is the REAL spirit of Choy Lay Fut
He reminds me of my dear deceased Sifu John Lem who used to teach in Los Angeles
It was a once in a lifetime opportunity I am very grateful for,,,
He didn't just teach kung fu he taught about LIFE and how to be a better human being
RIP Sifi Lem

i practise hung sing choy li fut,but i like to see his and their performance. Very good.
It may look strange when practiced in this form but when it's applied in an actual fight, it looks very practical and intense.
Brings back memories.

all types of martial arts are very important because they teach the value of respect the country, the family and defend yourself.

One of the first styles of mixed martial arts.

Believe it or not, this is the style that was challenged by Muay Thai practitioners and won against them undefeated.
Actually bruce lee said that they fought thai boxers

You expound on the greatness of fixed style yet are oblivious to the meaning and history of the very name you utilize. Jeetkunedo is the very essence of mixed martial arts.
Are CHOY LEE FUT, CHOY LAY FU, and CHOY LI FUT the same thing????????
me too my friend. im tired of all teh wanna be's and internet warriors who dont know anything about martial arts claim that MMA would beat any style. if i only had one chance to meet people like that in a dark alley...

Chen Yong Fa lives in australia, but there are many Chan Family CLF schools around the world, you can look them up in the wing sing tong international official page
this is a black belt class
only clf students can understand this
You know whats funny, I take CLF and I actualy understoon what the sifu was saying at the beginning, and I don't speak a lick of Cantonese.
Master Chen is cool =D
And guys this is Choy LEE Fut, no Choy LAY Fut
I practice with sifu Marcel and Raul TouTin in Chile since 6 years =)
C-ya
and its all the same the name just depends on where you hail from ,u probly form england, i am and thats what i call it
im not who you think i am.
Good Choy Lee Fut, Chen Yong Fa is by far better than clowns like Pedro Rico.
There's CLF in Ga... where are you located?
its actually choy LAY fut, because its cantonese, and the character lee is pronounced LAY.
yes
dam tht useually works
This Choy Lee Fut , not Choy Lay Fut
Monk Choy Fuk, Lee Yau Shan and Fut (Fut means Buddha in cantonese) that's why the name
Kebanyakannya pukulan ayun...
Heh, choy lee fut ain't for long people only the basic moves are done with long arms:D then when you master those you can advance to the shorter ones...Just from this reply I can say you don't know anything..
