I keep saying this Stewart ... the best yet ... without a shadow of a doubt. An absolutely superb effect you've achieved. Love it. Love it. Love it :) Great video. Cheers Mike
Brilliant Stewart. An absolute lifeline for me this morning at stupid o clock when my 4wk old son decided he wasn’t going to sleep, I watched the video and it cheered me right up. Thanks
I might be over-stating it a tad...but... you are close to being an artist in your own way. Good job. You both inspire me and at the same time depress me... When I grow-up, I'd like to be a bit talented like you are. Thanks
Thank you, Frank. This one came out really well - patient finishing with lacquer really helped....it just can't be done in my usual slapdash way! Delighted you liked this one. Cheers!
Thanks, Russell - and apologies for the delay in replying - your comment got put in the 'Held for Review' section for some reason and I only saw it today. Cheers!!
Love, love, love it, beautiful texture, the colours are vibrant and the shine is amazing. Now you have evolved, from texturing the outside rim of a bowl to the side rim. I hope you do more on the side. The shape was pleasant too. Just great!!!
Wow - thanks, Jane! A rave review. I certainly intend to do some more on the side, as it were. There's a disaster of a vase coming up in a week or two! I might have to produce a few more of this shape and size though. Cheers!!
Thank you, Pete - this one came out much better than I'd imagined. Despite the split in the rim, I'll finish it off. Delighted you like it so much. Cheers!!
Ive never added color to any of my pieces so I enjoy watching what you create. I must admit, I often think you have too much color UNTIL you show the close up pictures and wow I am always surprised at how all of the different colors and multiple layers bring out the beauty in each piece. Thanks! and have a great day.
Thank you, Holly. I know what you mean - there are definite moments while the colour is going on that it looks a bit of a mess. Just have to keep the faith and keep going to the end. It always looks better with the finish on! Cheers!!
I was wondering if you've ever tried to seal the wood prior to applying stains, which would keep them from blotching so much? I'm talking of either shellac or a sander/sealer to seal it. Thoughts?
Hi Marty - yep, I have tried that in the past. It does seem to give a different effect to the stain with less of it soaking into the wood. But after building up a few coats, the shellac in the Chestnut stains acts like a sealer anyway.
Thanks, Clive - they say you can't enough tools....I'm not sure if this is true, but there are some tools you can't do without! Happy to take the blame.Cheers!!
Hey, Stewart, I really enjoy the effects you're applying to your turnings. I'm wondering why you've never (at least not that I've seen...) attempted airbrushing effects?
Thanks, Marty! I've done a few airbrushing videos in the videos I've uploaded using stencils and templates. My last bit one video featured a lot of masking with airbrushing. I've not used a lot of paint in airbrushes...most of them use spirit stains instead. Cheers!
Thanks, Dennis! I used an arbortech 50mm sawblade that came with the Proxxon long-neck grinder - you can see what I mean in this link: www.axminster.co.uk/proxxon-lhw-long-neck-angle-grinder-c-w-arbortech-mini-blades-718300
Beautiful piece, but what was the medium you added to the Gold Paint? Sorry, but I'm in the states and didn't understand it through your accent. Of course, we speak american as opposed to English, so that could account for it. :-)
Really like this! What grind do you use for clearing out the innards? I don't get much ash here New England. I want to try some. You generally turn what kind of wood? I think I broke the amount of questions law. Have I? Huh? :)
Hi Michael - glad you like this one...and because you do, I can overlook the breaking of the amount of questions law! I use a grind about 55-50 degrees which coped well with the size of this hollowing. I mostly use beech and sycamore - I prefer this for colouring as it's tight-grained as opposed to ash which is more open grained, though this particular piece was less so than normal. I find that when the grain is more pronounced it fights against the patterns I make with some colouring techniques. However, the colouring approach on this bowl works ok with more open grains. Cheers!
Hello Stewart, It looks really good. If there is a but, mine would be, "But Y O Y O Y O Y didn't you finish it? " It feels like an itch that won't go away; an unfinished melody ; that gnawing, "What if?" . The surface on the outside looks like a ceramic glaze. This could be the one, (probably not), where you carry the colour over and inside, rather like a Victorian jardiniere bowl, because it's an experiment. . . like. I have a weakness for golds that transition through oranges and deep reds, to burnt red/umber. Go on Stewart, don't leave it there. Regards, Glenn. :-)
Thanks, Glenn - your eloquent plea has made me determined to finish it off - just a bit of tidying up of the inside to get a smooth curve and then sorting out the foot. I'll ignore the split....I'm sure more like this will emerge from my workshop over the next few weeks. Cheers!

I really like this one Stewart but you really have to finish it!
Thanks, Phil - don't worry, I will finish it - just a little tidy up of the foot needed once I've shaped the inside to a smooth curve. Cheers!
Stewart Furini I might have a go at something similar this weekend, they do say imitation is the biggest form of flattery 😄

Superb effect love the effect. Question what texture tool are you using also is the wood green dry or kiln dried wood. Cheers

Thank you, John. This is one of my favourites. It was some green ash that I had stored for a few years before turning it. Cheers!
Beautiful piece, but what was the medium you added to the Gold Paint? Sorry, but I'm in the states and didn't understand it through your accent. Of course, we speak american as opposed to English, so that could account for it. :-)
Thank you, Dennis - much appreciated. I used Kleister medium, it's a Jo Sonya product that can be mixed with their acrylic paints.

Too good not to be finished. I think the inside should be plain. But, as MS-S says, it’s your wood and you can do what you want with it!
Cheers, Mike - yep, it will get finished, don't worry...and with a natural inside for sure! Cheers!!
Nice work bud.🍺 but please be careful with solvent based products. 😉😂😂
