Regarding the color "old paper"... most of my career was spent doing accounting work. Back in the day, most all the ledger paper pads were a green-ish tinted paper. Maybe that's why this ink got its name.
I love this! I use a Brother P-touch label maker for everything in my home office, craft room, pet supplies, personal property that I lend out, etc. The more detail oriented an organization system is, the better!!! I love this! Even the way you put the colors in order makes sense to me.
The old paper does look off...and yes, I do organize like you do when I get the energy to do so. I need to quit putting things off as much as I do, especially when it comes to organizing. I like how you have everything set up ❤
I love the little swatch sheets you do, I’ve been thinking about doing something similar ever since I saw Luise’s video, but I can’t bring myself to actually do it… I agree that it’s a bit strange that Old paper is so green, but it has actually become one of my favourite greens, I use it a lot because I like that pale green shade for so many things! 💚
To be able to see your journals is the best outcome. Your studio became so warm and cozy sice you moved in 😍 i love this videos, so thank you for sharing!💞💞💞
❤ a peak in your craft room is always so fun and inspiring sweetie. I would totally be organizing craft supplies like these like you do, if I had as many, and would use them every day 👍🏻😊
Beautifully done, Barbara. Now, the creative process will be even better. The Abandoned Coral is such a pretty color. And as for the green Old Paper ,🤔 hmmm?! Nice organized system ❤
I love your channel! I am a fine art painter and just recently started crafting again. I'm excited because for the first time I am going to marry my painting skills and my crafting skills together to see where it takes me. Until I'm organized though, I won't be doing near enough creating. I'm still going through 25 years of scrapbooking supplies, papers, etc...and getting it all pulled out so I know what's what. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I enjoy every video I've seen of yours so far.
You have the patience of a Saint. Good for you, if crafting was my source of income, I would also invest the time and money you have in all the oxide/ink products, stamping platform etc, etc. I do enjoy watching your organizing techniques. Ya, old paper is definitely green! You ARE very accomplished!❤😊
I so love your little file-shaped swatches! Thanks so much for showing how you did it! I, too, have a die about like that, and will be making some like yours! Hugs! Peggy
Welcome to the "What were you thinking, naming this Old Paper?!" club!! Yes! That IS the right color for Old Paper!😄I love the color! It's one of my favorites. But why in the world he named it that is beyond me! 🤷I'm sure it's been mentioned in a video more than once, but I've never heard his explanation.
Beautifully done...an never-ending process of adapting our supplies & space as our creative needs & desires change!! 😘❤️ Your color palette/order makes total sense to me!! 🌈 😍
There are very old papers that are that color of green, though very light. It might just be an American thing, too. I have some old accounting ledgers where the paper is that shade. You almost don't notice it until you compare it directly to modern, bright white paper.
Barbara: since this is your business, you need to be organized , especially keeping up when you get new supplies. However, for me, just crafting for me, this isn’t going to happen. However, I’m very impressed with what you did and it looks like it will be easily accessible. Thank you for this review of organization. Carol from California
Love how your swatches looks! I haven't organised anything yet...I'm totally un-organised and in a mess. Has it's reasons, and as soon as these reasons go away, I'll get organised. It's so much more fun to be organised. Great result you got! Clever to move the scrap boxes infront of you. 😊
I had to laugh because I have been reorganizing for the last few days. As you get more supplies you also need to change the system. Having things sorted and stored like with like is very time consuming but it does make us happy in the end. I really enjoy and appreciate your sharing your struggles as I have taken many suggestions from you and Luise. By the way, my old paper is also greenish.I think that is the intended color.
Barbara, it looks great!!😮 I like having open spaces to be able to see around. I re-organized my craft desk yesterday and I have so much more space and organization.❤
I love how beautiful your space is. It’s so inspiring. Just an FYI, even Tim Holtz uses only one brush per oxide colour family. He of course uses one per ink colour family as well. I use a finger dauber also per colour family for my archival inks. I could happily stare at your journals all day. 🤗🇨🇦🤗
Hi, Barbara. I thought you would be interested in the reason why your Old Paper pad wasn't as juicy (as intense a color). It's an INK, not an OXIDE. Inks are translucent like watercolor and penetrate the paper when applied. Oxides are opaque like gouache, and the pigment sits on the paper's surface. Or so that's how Tim Holtz explained it back when his Oxides first came out. I hope this helps because I always am certain to buy a color in INK whenever I want to "age" something around the edge. The oxides always make me feel heavy-handed when I try to age a fussycut. Of course, in the States, no physical (walk-in) store carries INKs anymore. You have to order them.
Your order makes sense to me. Blues together, greens together, etc.. The only thing I can think of for the Old Paper color is that old ledgers and steno pads used to be a light green color. I love your system but I don't have the patience to do a swatch card box. I can see myself spending all the time it takes to make them and then never referring to it. So, one less box on the desk. I copied your stamp storage system last year and I love it!
I had the same feeling about old paper - the color tea dye is more what I expected - and I use tea dye a lot more. I just keep my ink pads in a drawer of an IKEA cabinet that supports my desk..its simple and it works.
I love how organised your workspace is. I am just getting started and have been trying to think of a way to organise all my ephemera. At the moment it is a bit of a jumble in a box. I was wanting to make smaller boxes and organise them by theme such as Food and Drinks, Maps and Travel, Botanicals, Advertisments and Newspapers, and so and so forth, but I think I am going to carefully plan it before I start looking small boxes or drawers in the charity shops. But I am always looking at how others organise their supplies.
Hello Barbara! I was wondering if maybe you could color the outside edges of your labels (not cover the word?) - this way you wouldn’t have to re-write your labels? I do really like how you organize them though 😊.
A year?😱 I've labelled everything but not done my swatches yet 🙈 yep, putting it off. My daubers are crumbling with use. I made a full label sheet straight away so have the rest ready. Lol yes the names are often baffling🤷. Yes I like the sensible order too🙊 more pleasing to the eye. Old paper is more appropriate when oxidised. Looking good, I definitely need to have a big swatching session🙈. Tfs and have a great day 💖💖💖
“You do you!”💜 I agree…I have hesitated adding to my Distress inks (which are stored standing in a food storage container on my desk) b/c of the hassle involved in the organization…the silver lining is that it stops me from just buying every color!😂 Perhaps you could save time by just having different brushes for each color family, but, of course, you’d need a separate set for oxides vs inks (I believe this is what Tim Holtz does) P.S. I have heard that “old paper oxide” has strong green undertones.
Incredible work, beautiful job! I noticed you didn’t notate which of your colors are inks vs oxides on your swatch cards. The colors can slightly vary between the versions. You may want to indicate which version you’re working with on your swatch card. I’m in the process of setting up my new space because I just moved so thank you for sharing this gorgeous video 😊
I do use brushes and daubers for my inks, but I don't use a lot of Ranger inks, more other brands like Memento and Stamperia etc. and I store them upside down in my set of drawers under my desk, (labeled ànd swatched even). Bút I use the same brushes and daubers for the same colours in a colourgroup, (darks and lights, reds, blues, greens etc.) which works perfectly, for me anyway. I am a perfectionist in many ways, just that much not with this 😆. It seems less fun to me to be that precise. But I get that you're doing it for your workflow and of course you need to be organised for your business. Your desk looks great like this!
I don't organize ny inks and oxides. I keep them in a drawer. I use certain ones more than others, so it works for me. I could not work in such an organized craft room. I have to keep things where I can see them or I forget what I have. (getting old does that). Don't get me wrong, I call my craftroom organized chaos, and I do straighten up but it doesn't stay thatway for long. That's what works for me. Thanks for sharing Barbara.🙂❤️
I’m not a professional, so I’m not as precise as you. I keep my brushes/foam discs in the same color family and inks/oxides separate. I don’t have all of the colors,so not really in the swatches thing- just experiment when I’m doing a project. I’m totally in love with Scorched Timber! I didn’t think it was a must have, but it definitely is!
That is way too much for me! I buy my labels from Craftilier. They are already printed in the exact colors and I was surprised how perfect they are (and very inexpensive). I loved them so much I bought multiple sets to label all sides and my daubers.
I think old paper is intended to look like vintage ledger paper. I only swatch the embossing glazes. I have all of the inks and all of the oxides. So I do not have daubers and brushes for each color. I use the blending brushes for the inks and makeup brushes or blending tools for the oxides. I took Tim’s advice and have one brush or daubers for each color of the rainbow plus black, brown and white to use. This works well for me. I
Hi Barbara. Tip for those colors that come out dark on your label, ink up the dauber lit hen run a pass over scrap paper first before coloring your label- a ghost print if you will. Then you may not have to write over them. I still need to do all of my inks. Wanna he,p? Lolkw you might want the actual full color so you could ghost color then do full color on either side of the word. Creative Blessingsi
I do a lot of the same. I use a label maker though. I label almost everything. I have the same daubers. I use a make up brush per color family but didn’t have oxides until last week as I was only using Stampin up inks. I wanted to try oxides. I guess I’ll only use daubers for the oxides.
Love watching you organize your craft room, and you are correct, the name “old paper” does not match at all with actual color. Timmy what were you thinking? Lol
Hi Barbara, I love your videos and the way you make everything so naturally. It totally gives me a sense of calm. Love it. I'm always coming with technical questions, and you always amswer, and I think it's super thoughtful of you, so here is my technical question ( hehe) would you mind sharing what are the lights you are using? Did they come with difusors? Thanks you for sharing your methods! I love all you do!
Hi Leticia. Thank you! I’m happy to help where I can. Here are my studio lights: www.amazon.de/-/en/gp/aw/d/B07L755X9G?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title
I use numbers so walnut stain might be 1 and o for oxide or 1 and i for ink I put it on a strip with walnut stain such as you did, using a black sharpie. On back of brushes I do same but I use a silver sharpie. My dauber are same so all walnut oxide would have 1 o. I like your system I just have little patients lol
I have the same problem with walnut stain. When I swatch my pads I color plain white paper the pad color then print the name of the color, cut out the name and glue it to the colored white paper. Hope that makes sense
Was hältst du davon? Liebe Grüße Petra
I have a question for the group in general: how do you store stencil + stamps sets? Do you separate the two or keep them together? I have a binder for clear stamps and a binder for stencils. Currently my stencil + stamps sets are in the back of my stencil binder, since I've used the stencils more. (I scored some Tim Holtz Christmas sets for $4 on clearance.)
I have my stamps all in binders and I love it. I’m in the process of reorganizing my stencils, which are all in a drawer and it’s hard to find specific ones. I’m planning to hang mine up. Fingers crossed it works. Will be sharing that at some point 😊
Are the stamp/stencil sets made to be used together? For example, is the stencil made to color the image of the stamp, like florals? If so, I would store together. Otherwise, I store stamps and stencils separately, especially if you are talking about the Tim Holtz sets that you can find at Joann’s.
I store my stamps following Barbara's method of putting them in binders. Tim Holtz stencils come with a hole punched in the top which inspired me to punch a hole in my other brands. I put them on a binder ring and hang them on a hook on my craft trolly.
I usually separate my stamp/stencil sets because I rarely use them together. Stamps go in a binder like Barbara’s method - which I love, and stencils go into a photo album - which I don’t like, simply due to the number I have now. So I’m looking into a way to reorganize.
Thank you for all the suggestions. The stencils are meant to be backgrounds for the stamps, but I've yet to use the two together. Barbara, I store my stencils in top loading sheet protectors in a ring binder. It is easy to see what is an stencil is. I organize by type- patterns, plants, animals, etc.
My Distress Inks and Oxide inks are never juicy. Even when they are brand new. I hardly ever stamp with them because of this. I basically just use them for the “smooshing” technique. Even when I use them with make up brushes and stencils the inks are so dry that I have to apply many layers of ink to get the look I want.
I’m not sure. I live in Illinois in the Midwest of US. I’m not sure what kind of climate would cause that to happen. It’s not particularly dry here. In fact in the summer it’s very humid. It’s a mystery to me! 🤷♀️
Hmmm. I think the only GOOD thing about not having a lot of ink pads, is that I don't have to go to all effort you do!! 😂 That said, I really like the idea of having the side label on each pad. I used to have mine stacked, but the boxes don't sit well on top of each other, so I shifted them to a wooden tray, but that's a bit annoying because I usually have to lift the top ones out to see what's underneath. Your storage trays are ideal, but I think the postage would prohibitive for me. Sooooo, I'm going to have to come up with some other solution. Well done on being so organised! But then again - you always are. 🧡💚🤎
@@lillybullen5374my mom made an ink pad holder out of foam core and looks and works great for her! Bonus is you can make it any size you want depending on how many ink pads you have- or intend to acquire 😅 If you search online I have actually seen a lot of crafters making foam core storage options for all sorts of things.
"Old Paper", while not descriptive, is a better name than "weird light olive green beige-ish color". That said, your pad is a little more green than mine, but that could be a manufacturing lot issue or my computer screen.
Gut gemacht, liebe Barbara! Rita 💌 😘😘
I organize my colors in rainbow relation, so regardless of what the "official" order is, if a blue seems more greenish than another I put it to the green side of order. It can be a bit subjective according to your own eyes and your light source. 🤷♀I'll tag you on IG with my photo of how I store my oxides.
Yie know your always helpful you and Louisa i forget her real name noo N no wonder yie copied hers everybodys doin it as shes very helpul too and Margareth from sevenplaza you are all artists in yer own rights you are my top 3 n no not in any order 👅🖐️😝🤗💜💜🏴🏴

Barbara, loved watching you organize, great job! This turned out really nice. And yay can see your journals. TFS!❤
I definitely need to do this ! 😊
Barbara, try using a baby wipe and lightly swipe your old paper pad if it is really green. Old paper has a slight tint if green to it when it’s wet.
Thank you! ❤️

On back of brushes I do same but I use a silver sharpie. My dauber are same so all walnut oxide would have 1 o. I like your system I just have little patients lol
I printed the labels off of Rangers website.
Thank you for taking us along! And it seemed like you enjoyed it as well!😊❤
Is there any way you could suspend your lighting from the ceiling? 🤔❤️
Thanks! The poles from the lighting don’t bother me and I don’t really want to drill into the ceiling of this rental apartment 😬
I have the same problem with walnut stain. When I swatch my pads I color plain white paper the pad color then print the name of the color, cut out the name and glue it to the colored white paper. Hope that makes sense
Hallo Barbara,
You do you. Sorry I had to laugh when u said “don’t laugh when you have little bits of paper in front of you” 😂
🤭❤️
Very nice. I mix like-colors all the time >.< I don't have the space to have supplies for each color.
Hello Barbara, I love your organization craft supplies 😍
Was hältst du davon?
👍Danke
I love the clear acrylic stands. Where are they from?
I have linked them under the video.
My old paper is also green.
Sprinkle some water on ink pads if drying out
NO! Do not sprinkle water directly on ink pad
WOW 😂I am totally not organized! I try but never works.
Spread your labels further apart on the paper then color the labels first - then print. Easier to color and the print will be on top of color!
Thank you! ❤️
❤❤❤
My Distress Inks and Oxide inks are never juicy. Even when they are brand new. I hardly ever stamp with them because of this. I basically just use them for the “smooshing” technique. Even when I use them with make up brushes and stencils the inks are so dry that I have to apply many layers of ink to get the look I want.
I wonder if it has to do with the climate you live in….

Thanks! Check if there are other stackable ink pad trays. There must be something local to you.
@@49dragonflies I think I will have to try - however, the options in New Zealand are definitely not so extensive.
🤩🤩🤩
"Old Paper", while not descriptive, is a better name than "weird light olive green beige-ish color". That said, your pad is a little more green than mine, but that could be a manufacturing lot issue or my computer screen.
❤
Gut gemacht, liebe Barbara! Rita 💌 😘😘
Maid gehts gut!
@@49dragonflies Oh, prima! Da bin ich beruhigt! Danke Dir für die Info! 😘😘
I organize my colors in rainbow relation, so regardless of what the "official" order is, if a blue seems more greenish than another I put it to the green side of order. It can be a bit subjective according to your own eyes and your light source. 🤷♀I'll tag you on IG with my photo of how I store my oxides.
I wanted to send you a screenshot of Old Paper. It is a green color.
It’s so hard being a symmetrical person. I get it.
👍🧡

Doesn’t organizing take time in the beginning so you save time in the end ? Atleast you have a nice ‘craft room’. Whatever works. ❣
Old paper is a little green…it does seem a bit odd
