    Thank you for sharing your foundations and your mini dance party, historical underwear dance parties are better when the dancing isn't professional anyway!

    I find the name being an “English Seam” in France and a “French Seam” in England (and elsewhere) very funny and really interesting.
    I really enjoy this kind of interesting trivia/knowledge.
    I really also want to find out why this is the case.
    Perhaps it was a way for clothing makers of the past to sound more fancy.
    We already know that English fashion/clothing makers from the past would often change their professional or business name to something sounding very French.
    Like calling themselves Madame such and such.
    Some would even pretend to BE French and speak to their customers using a false French accent.

    I have made so many stays and corsets in my life. It's amazing to see how casually you tackle a task like this. Fits you really well and I hope it's still a part of many of your costumes. Good job and thank you for sharing!

      Good thing about foundations, you only need one for the era and you then don't have to think about it when you want to make a pretty dress.

      Came for the humour, stayed for the history bits! As for your dancing - it's way better than mine but you obviously enjoyed it which is what dancing is meant to be all about so I'd class it as perfect!

    Wonderful video! I'm starting out with 18th century right now and have made a chemise and bum pad. Now I am working on the stays and feel scared to mess up. But it is a learning process, so even though I'm scared, I'm enjoying it. I love your sense of humor and smiled often while watching your video - I also made the big butts joke in my video about the bum pad! :-) Thank you for sharing your project.

    4:49 micarah tewers does something similar, she gently pulls on the thread while sewing normally and it pulls. i don't remember which video she showed it in, except that she was sewing something pink and i think the thing she was ruffling was pink tulle. the video must be over a year old by now. i think in the same video she was sewing a pink bodice

    Because you put 750 by 80, but i was wondering what metric measurement you're going by?? 💕

    a "fench seam" in german is "französische naht" wich is a direct translation. so the english and the germans are both blaming the french for this seam XD. I'd love to know what it's called in other languages.

    • @Ashkaztra
      @Ashkaztra 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's called "fransk søm" in Norwegian, so we are also blaming the French.

      Apparently, in Italian can be 'cucitura alla francese', 'cucitura all'inglese' AND 'cucitura doppia' (double seam… but don't mix it up with the other 'cucitura doppia' which is also called 'cucitura ribattuta piatta', that is actually a flat-felled seam, I think?). Because we are masochists.
