It is always good to see someone who can do different styles effectively. Now I want to learn totally out of my realm something new. After I get one of these. 😁
@@jambo175 I have the same model now. I just did Hotel California using the 12 string model with no capo where your normal E chord is at nut! Too cool.
hi Jimmy, great playing man, I have a question, I play a lot of acoustic songs, and use a lot of palm damping, does that also work with this Variax 98f. regards, Keith.
Thx for this amazing playing. Your sound at 6-35 is totally awesome. How do you make it, apart from choosing the Les Paul 59 ? Do u have/sell presets ?
I appreciate the kind words. Although considering, I currently don't have any presets for sale at this time. For this tone I am using the Line6 Epic amp with the drive at 5.0 and master at 8, through the Helix 4x12 Blackback 30. I put the Minotaur Distortion and LA Studio Compressor in front of the amp, and then the Simple Delay and Plate Reverb behind the amp. EQ to taste for the guitar. Don't be afraid to get in there and twist every knob until you get the tone you like. Hope that helps.
@@jambo175 thx a lot. I think abt buying a variax guitar. Do u recommend the 89f that u use in this video, or u think another one could be better ? The JTV-69 Standard Variax, with the single-single-double pickups , for exemple ?
Yes you can. Either by using the Line 6 "HD Workbench" software to create a custom tuning or like I do by storing alternate tunings in the Helix patch itself.
Awesome demo! Question (because I've never played a Variax): I've heard you have to be tuned to standard tuning for it to work properly. If the strings go slightly out of tune, can you hear it, or does the guitar automatically correct for that? I could seriously use one of these things. Just jumping from old school to new school is scary, though!
you still need to be (and play) in tune, because the guitar is shifting based on that reference pitch. i have a shuriken variax, and a main reason i got it was for the locking tuners and because Yamaha built it, so it never goes out of tune lol. but honestly i am going to get a JTV89F too someday- double locking floyd by graphtech- its a solid instrument.
I think I understand what your asking, but bottom, line tuning and intonation work just like any guitar. If it's out of tune I can hear it. The Piezo pickups in the saddles will translate ANY fluctuation in tuning to the model you have selected. The Variax has no way to "auto-tune" any string to correct pitch. Although you can change tuning virtually, the guitar needs to be as accurate as you can make it with traditional setup. I will be doing a video on this very topic soon as I struggled with on my Variax guitars tuning, not because of the electronics, but due to setup issues. Hope this helps.
No amp, everything was recorded stereo straight out of the Line 6 Helix in to a MOTU 828ES interface. The Resonator tones used a PreAmp model, where as the electric guitar tones where played through various Fender, PRS, or Line 6 amp models. Hope that helps.
This is really an outstanding demo, great job and thanks!
Glad you like it!

The banjo preset you were playing, can you get 5 string banjo tuning with that? Like High G then D,G,B,D on the other strings?

On your videos what did you use as amplifier
