In this Slay the Spire gameplay, Baalorlord does an Ascension 20 run with Defect. First, he gives tips on choosing a path and a starting bonus. One of the best runs ive seen in a LONG time; insane deck! I love the unique runs so much and this really was a "defect without the defect" deck
The answer to that question at the beginning of the video is: CLAW

So if Streamline were instead Claw in this deck, not considering the 3 energy altogether per fight. Both upgraded. Claw is 5+2 per play.
The total damage from claw per cast:
5,12,21,32,45,60,77,96,117,141,167,196,227,260,295,332.
Total damage from Streamline per cast:
20,40,60,80,100,120,140,160,180,200,220,240,260,280,300,320.
There are 16 Numbers there, because it takes that long for Claw to be better than streamline in the total damage. In the Donu Deca fight (which is immediately after he got his combo to be able to semi-infinate), Baalor played Streamline 13 times. That would be 227 damage for Claw and 260 damage for Streamline.
So you could say... Baalor in that fight spent 3 energy (over 2 turns) to deal an extra 33 points of damage. That was the difference between claw and streamline in that particular fight. But there are a lot more nuances at work here. I'm just swapping one card for another, which is not how one would play Claw.
I am not saying Claw is bad, but i am saying Streamline can be just as good as Claw.
@@Atariese what if there was... 2 or 3 claws. Vs 2-3 streamlines (which u really wouldn't take in a run)

A run like this explains why this is the GOAT roguelike deckbuilder, and probably the GOAT strategy rougelike generally. You could play this game for 5,000 hours and never have a deck/run/win like this.
How many players actually win with that deck against the heart? How many players in the freaking world could do that?
I have beaten a20 heart with Defect and you could give me 20 attempts and I lose all 20.
Baalor is too dang good at this game.

Seriously the most masterclass defect run I've ever seen, even with thousands of hours played in my own hands and many hours watching you just goes to show that there is always new stuff to find in spire incredibly well played man!

The Defect has no time to focus on orbs in this run, they're too busy giving Unceasing Top some value!
This is why defect is my favorite character, sometimes you’re runs look like an unstoppable god with a ten double digit orb halo and sometimes in looks like whatever the heck this was, also shoutout to the chatter who mentioned the bronze scales in act one didn’t seem like baalor was pondering them all too hard
Opening question: Hyper Beam, Reprogram, Claw (is law), and a lot of similar things can make such a deck tick, especially given the presence of structure cards like Seek, Self Repair, Echo Form, etc
My first Defect Heart kill came on the back of such a deck, honestly

Damn this run was frustrating with regards to relics and focus cards. It's the kind of thing that kills me because I'm not good enough to find the path through even though it exists.

Such a beautiful run. Charge Battery doing so much work in the heart fight! Fighting for every inch the whole run and it paid off just barely. So impressive.
No orb scaling without reprogram, that's a sight to behold.
I feel like every time I watch your videos even after years I learn some cool interaction I have never thought of before. Eg: Playing statuses with medical kit for ink bottle value.

i think there wasn't an infinite, since with streamline-turbo-void-recycle-block it would require 16 block in a 1cost card to be positive. so something like an upgraded turbo or lots of dexterity would possibly enable it.
still an insane dub, got rescued by the last floor recycle. had me at the edge of my seat at the end, well played
I think I 've beaten A19 (no heartkill) with a completely focus-less deck. Mostly card draw and using Recursion+ on plasma orbs for energy. The beat of death proved too much to handle, but I pretty much steamrolled over everything else.

The defect runs have been very refreshing!
Hear me out: 20:00, buy Impatience, remove strike, upgrade Zap next floor.
With the Strike removal, you'd have 6/15 cards in the deck that are attacks. But Beam Cell doesn't count because its 0 energy, and Core Surge barely counts because it exhausts. Effectively 4 attacks, all 1 energy. Then you also have Zap, Beam Cell and eventually Dual Cast as zero mana cards that want tons of draw.
Maybe even take Turbo to get more energy to go with the extra draw from Impatience and double Sweeping Beam.
Could be the start of very, very strong shenanigans.
Edit: In hindsight, seems i was right. The early Turbo would let you upgrade it, zero mana Zap is a fair amount of damage in the midgame, and you sorely needed the block. However, not buying Bronze Scales would've hurt on the birds fight and maybe one or two more.
