    What really surprised me about the movie was the heart and christmas spirit. I came for the action and ridiculousness, but I didn't expect to be so touched by Santa and Trudy's interactions. It's very sweet and makes the movie unique.

    Complete success. It was crazy seeing brutal high grade action sequences, combined with something that felt legitimately sweet with christmas spirit. (The santa backstory as a medieval raider (Norse/Celtic) is dark but actually makes sense as one of those things that can lead a person to seek redemption which would motivate a person to want to spend the rest of their life bringing cheer to good kids.) such a good movie.

    My annual Christmas movie was always, "We're No Angels". (The one with Bogart, Aldo Ray and Peter Ustinov, Basil Rathbone.) One of the best dark humor Christmas movies ever.
    Can't wait for this one. Need some good Christmas movies, lol...

    This was a great movie, we really did enjoy it, defiantly on the Christmas movie rotation now. The only very, very minor critique because she knocked it out of the park with her acting, was, we though that Leah Brady was just past the high side of the age where kids still would believe that strongly. Had it played out more of a she was just starting to loose the belief but these events rekindled it. or had she been about 3-4 years younger. zero issues.

    Dude my sons birthday is 12/12/12 and I took him to see this movie for his first "big boy" movie in theaters. IU made sure there wasn't sex in it and it was all good. I grew up on American Werewolf in London, Alien, Aliens, Terminator 1 and 2, Predator 1 and 2, Robocop 1 and 2 all by the time I was 7 sooo..yeah. I showed my son all those movies too (except Werewolf in London; its got a sex scene lol). and we both bonded on all the new Predator movies, Aliens and Aliens vs Predator and long story short: Violent Night was so fucking awesome and my son and I loved!!!!!

    "Ten thousand years past of him giving out toys"
    Ah David you do realise that Christmas is a Christian holiday, right? Christianity is only 2000 years old.

    • @Vulpine407
      @Vulpine407 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wait, I thought he said he'd been doing it for only 1,100 years. That would be just about right for the "Viking" period. Isn't that what they were hinting at? That he was formerly a Viking berserker of some sort?
      Edit: By "he" I meant David Harbour in the movie. I think the director misspoke.

    • @JT-hm1rf
      @JT-hm1rf ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@johnmin5614 Christmas is not necessarily a tradition of Christian origin. Definitely not if we pretend that Santa Claus was an old Viking, as in this film, as we lean towards Nordic traditions (In the Nordics, Santa Claus also have other names that are not connected to Saint Nicholas). Christianity functioned more as a hijacking of what were pagan winter solstice celebrations, traditions and folklore. In the land of the Vikings, Christianity never managed to change the name of the festivities, and there are still different forms of "Yule Tide" used in the Nordics. So it's really a summary of many different meanings and traditions mixed and evolved. But of course, Christian traditions in Yule/Christmas may have greater significance in other parts of the world. A fun theory about the origin of flying reindeer sleighs was that a shaman belonging to the north of the arctic circle came to visit the various crofts and delivered "magic mushrooms" as gifts to make the winter solstice a little more festive and the participants had hallucinations of the shaman flying away on the sled when leaving. A well-known fact is that the Vikings were very eager to get intoxicated on "shrooms". It is also common to decorate with "magic mushrooms" in the Yule decorations in the Nordics.
