Closed cell foam - is BACK!

  • One of the last big projects we had left to do is spray the bottom of the containers. We had stored a set of barrels for 2+ yrs and just found out that they have a shelf live...and we had no clue.
I would have spraying the barrels 2 years back if I had known that...however in our quest to continue building the inside, we set the last set of barrels aside and stored the Lil-Pup spray foam equipment.
In trying to resurrect it, I noticed I had kinked the 2 supply lines so I ordered a replacement set from Mixsyn.
That was not the end of fun...I also could not get one of the pumps to spin due to residue built up in the hydraulic pump. I took that apart (A side pump) and cleaned it out and re-assembled things. Pumps are a good to go.
Once the got the new lines, replaced the kinked ones I then tried to do a t est spray and ratio check. That didn't go to plan either and in summary one of the check valves gave up. The machine has 4 so I ordered a full set. I got them from Trausch Dynamics (www.hydraulics...) at $18 a piece plus shipping ($20). Not too bad. Once I received those I took the gun apart, cleaned everything and replaced the check valves.
I finally started spraying foam on 6/29/2024 and it work GREAT! Dan from Mixsyn also send me some new spray nozzles last year and they are a ton easier to manage (just slip on), while the old ones were screwed in a cap (major PITA).
Overall, things are going great now but as a side issue, we are in Texas and the temps are up to 100' mid day so I have to spray in the mornings for only a few hours. It gets very taxing spraying in the heat and even holding the gun shooting upwards the entire times kills my shoulders. 2-3 hrs is a good work out.
I also had to cover the barrels and the equipment to keep the sun off of them and reduce the temps of the product. So far so good.
We should have enough product to spray the living area underneath but that may be it. I'll do what I can until we run out...but overall, it's making a difference in the house which was the goal all along.
Next video (a shorty) will be of us fixing the upper deck! More fun in the sun.
Cheers and as always thanks for the support of family and friends. We love the home and are enjoying it all.
