    Dobyns 6-2 ultralight with a Tatula 1000 Oohh yeah that’s a Dynamite combo man 🎉 I’m actually goin to buy that same rod but a 2 peace as for the reel I will go with either a Revo supreme x or a Tatula 1000 🎉

    Really like that setup👍🏻 I purchased a bps panfish elite in ultralight and I’m going to have to make it a bobber rod,shame because I love everything about it but can’t get any distance casting ultralight lures😬 going to look at a 7’/2” light version during their “hoping” spring classic. Love that reel👍🏻I purchased a Piscifun carbon x 1000 on sale earlier this year and it looks quite a bit like the Tatula. Daiwa makes fantastic reels but for the price I’m pretty happy with the carbon x for my ultralight/light setups. Just not sure about longevity.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I have heard good things about those Piscifuns. The Daiwa is more pricey but likely uses a bit higher quality parts. Regardless, no problem with either choice! And if you can't get good distance on that rod, I would recommend downsizing line diameter and you might get a bit more. I went from 4lb mono to 2lb mono on reels this year and it made a HUGE difference when slinging a tiny Mule Jig.

    • @rommel2695
      @rommel2695 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@FishAnything I was thinking of trying a really light braid, but I’ll definitely try 2 lb mono first. And hey it gives me a reason to feed the bait monkey anyway with a new rod😁

  • @StumpkillerCP

    Santa was good to you! Beautiful set-up. My Christmas gift to myself was a pair of Ugly Stik Carbon rods - 7'0" UL (jigs) and 5'6" L (spinners/small spoons). Both two piece. Years ago I had a bad experience with my wife helping unload the pick-up and her carrying the rods (including a one piece) through a spring closed screen door after coming home on a rainy day after a wet camping weekend. I know one-piece likely is better but intact is better still. Now I use a soft rod case that holds six+ rods.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh wow that sounds like a cool system! There are pros and cons to all rod types - this is my fancy UL which will be used for lots of species but I guarantee I will own plenty of super budget setups in the future as well.

    • @noobpyrotech9991
      @noobpyrotech9991 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I got the Carbon Ugly stik 7 foot UL. Put a Pisicfun Carbon X 2000 reel on it. With some 4 lb mono I was able to cast a mile(rocket bobber only). I might get the 5’6 light and put a Pfluger president 20 on it.

  • @BornIn1500
    @BornIn1500 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    10:14 if an "ultralight" rod will haul in a 15 inch bass like nothing, then it's really not an ultralight. You have to watch out for those shady marketing tactics. Everyone wants to feel like they're an "ultralight" fisherman these days, so companies label standard medium/light equipment as ultralight to cash in.

    Those type of braid can have wind knots which ultimately may wrap around rod tips and break them. If you want to try braid again, try powerpro 5lb. Use a flouro leader with a ball bearing swivel to prevent twists.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve enjoyed this braid but it doesn’t cast quite as far as some of the others in my experience. Was planning to try some 6# j braid next but I’ll have to look into the 5# PP. thanks!

    • @anderson8869
      @anderson8869 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FishAnything I haven't tried the shorter St. Croix panfish rods but their longer models including the 6'-9" ultralight and the 7'-0" light..... both were really tip heavy and I found the 7ft light to be a more moderate action than the 6'-9" ultralight. Very confusing, ended up returning both but knowing you prefer the shorter lengths you may be happy with them. The Legend Elite Panfish rods were really nice, got to test those this summer but couldn't wrap my head around the cost. Again though, the actions were more moderate & progressive where the Dobyns in my opinion are a faster action with most of the flex at the top 3rd of the rod.

    I'm really curious how that line works out. I've been having a lot of problems with wind knots using Power Pro Braid 10 lb and 8 lb test on my light action spinning reels. I would love to know if there's something better out there to use.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @hanfei6871
      @hanfei6871 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      X4 braid is alright, especially fireline, one of the less limp braids out there. But when you go under size 2500 reels, line laying and slack line management will become problems when retrieve fast or working the bait quickly. Size 2000 spinning reel is the smallest size I would run braided line on.

  • @hanfei6871
    @hanfei6871 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Dobyns is alright... kind of a overhyped brand. They’re great and all but too many people on the internet praised it to oblivion. All of them are considerably heavier than other options in their respective price range and power classes, and none of them are more sensitive than comparable products from other brands.
    That’s my main gripe with their rods: sensitivity and weight is something people pay money for, and being “balanced” just doesn’t cut it for how much they run.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used to feel that way too when I had only tried their “savvy” that my friend owned. I was just like… this thing is heavy as a rock. But this Sierra ultralight is definitely light and comfortable to fish with. One of my favorite ultralights I’ve used having had it for about 7 months now. Definitely still buying and experimenting with new gear though so my opinions are subject to change

  • @logicalrationalfishing7481
    @logicalrationalfishing7481 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I haven't had the best luck with that braid, try 8lb Sufix 832, 5lb PowerPro is even thinner but rougher on guides. Also the Sufix Nanobraid is great and smooth, the Berkley 9 carrier braid is supposed to be crazy smooth and thin diameter.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the intel! I definitely want to try the 5lb PowerPro at some point. This braid is good but it doesn't get the same casting distance as something with less of a "wiry" feel to it.

  • @BarryP
    @BarryP 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    How did I not know about that black hat?!? Ordered!
    On another note, you will probably HATE the 6lb 8-strand Fire. My Cadence Ideal and Elate spinning reels have remarkably small spools, and I thought I was doing myself a favor by going with that very braid in that very diameter, initially, especially when casting mostly sub-1/16 (and mostly 1/32 Mules, for me). It was a nightmare! Thinking that it was the tiny diameter + the limpness of the 8-strand, I switched to Kalex (a PureFishing product, and generally, my go-to brand) 6lb 4-strand braid. Although I had a lot less issues, it was still unacceptable. I switched (yet again) to Kalex 10lb, and have been pretty trouble-free since. In fact, I have one of my Ideal reels spooled with 12lb Kalex 4-strand, and I have NEVER had a problem with it. Not one knot or tangle...ever. While it sacrifices a little capacity... when you're not chopping off 15yds at a time due to a tangle, it doesn't really matter out in the field. And the casting distance is virtually the same as with the lighter, troublesome lines. I'd bet the 8lb Kalex 4-strand cast a 1/64-1/80 like a dream.

    • @FishAnything
      @FishAnything  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly if this doesn't work well, I will just go back to monofilament. For ultralight, I don't want to "overpower" my line. I am with you on the 10# braid for bass equipment but I don't see much of a reason to use that strong of line for bluegill and smaller fish lol
      Hopefully this line performs well for me. So far, doesn't seem to have issues. More to come!

      Ooooh you are an OKIE? You better master a football jig, jerkbait, and alabama rig if you are fishing the big lakes for bass. If you are targeting multispecies, I would rig up a Gulp Minnow on a small jig (Mule Jig preferable lol) and drift that puppy around. Works like a charm for lots of fish!

      @@stevenlatre7934 I would definitely fish a Ned Rig super slow if the water has decent clarity. If it is more stained, go with a small skirted finesse jig with a very simple craw trailer (with limited action).

      Honestly, as long as you are buying in the upper end of "budget" combos you should be fine. A solid 150 dollar combo will last for several years as long as you take care of it. My favorite thing about fishing is you don't have to break the bank to enjoy the sport with quality gear.

      Yeah it’s pricey lol but it’s also super dope and I intend to show my thoughts on it more and more in the future. I definitely don’t think you need to spend this much for a reliable setup. Wicked! Perfect length and the fact it's got a little more back bone will help in driving that hook in on bigger bass.
    Light braid does cause wind knots. I go 8lb and dont cast too hard at first. Fresh braid will get you when you do. I always pull it tight when I flip the bail after casting. Has reduced my wind knots by 97%.

    • @FishAnything
