I'm 65 and I can clearly recall when being taken to see this film around the age of 4, I demanded to be taken again when we left the cinema and my demands were met, twice over. Magical film. Great talent was Danny.

What an incredible singer Danny Kaye was. This song is incredibly difficult to sing in tune. Very difficult with odd intervals and large jumps. He could pitch anything while acting at the same time! Amazing!

I was watching this from my hospital bed last week. Of course I was miserable, homesick and unwell, but I could've sworn I was home again while this was on. Made my afternoon just a little bit brighter :D Thanks Danny you adorable man you
59 years ago when I was 4 my mum took me to the cinema to see this film. Some years later I was told that I was taken to see it 3 times as I loved it so much. What a talent Danny was, bless him.
My all-time favorite movie, after hearing it I will be singing the song for days, trying to stop, but I can't. I often played this movie for my 3 grandchildren, they loved it. One day my oldest grandson about 7 or 8 yrs old said to me Bubbie (Grandma in Yiddish), I asked everyone in my class and not one person knew Danny Kaye. I laughed and said to him, that movie is so many years old maybe their parents, their grandparents for sure knew Danny Kaye. I just can't forget that, it was so funny.
If you ever meet him, don't show him the Disney version of the Little Mermaid; he'll have a fit for how it botched the original moral. Show him the 1975 adaptation instead.
Danny Kaye was a one of a kind!!!! There will never be another one like him ever again. 😭😭😭 he will always be remembered by us watching the movies and films and other projects he was in and the music he sang.
I remember watching this film when I was about 7yrs old I'm 59 now and have just watched the film again, I don't know why these songs came to mind all of a sudden but they did and i had to watch it, and actually i have a little sage plant in the yard which is a royal bumble deep red salvia, nuts as it may sound but I've taken a little cutting from it and called it Bumbalina. The old films will always live on I'm even calling some of my garden and house plants similar names like count plantula, Ebenezer and Scrooge. 😅.
My daughter aged 7 is Reading the ugly duckling for home work, and this song and there once was an ungly duckling popped into my head, from when i was around the same age, ahhh good times,
oh my dayz what a blast from the past i remember watching this at my grand parents house when i was a little boy about 3/4 yrs old and im 24 now oh the memorys :0) thanks for the post
I loved this man,but could not remember his name, from my childhood. For nearly 5-6months I was looking for him and at last I found him and his name.I am so happy at my 72 age❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The real Hans Christian Andersen went to Copenhagen to audition as an opera singer. I don't know why they left that out of this movie - seems like an excellent excuse for a Danny Kaye-style music number.
Maybe because the real HCA was a terrible singer, and they didn’t want think Danny Kaye was capable of singing badly? (I think I read that he wasn’t that good of a singer)
Right at the beginning of this movie there's a disclaimer saying that this isn't a historically accurate telling of his life. Rather its supposed to be a fairytale, romanticized, version of his life.
I googled for Wikipedia article about Ben Hur 1925,and saw list of extras, and there was this man Samuel Godwyn, aparently Polish man, who won Oscar 1946, and there it said he made this 1952. hit H.C.A. And then I remembererd watching that movie long time ago, especially this song I could not get out of my head. Thank you uploader, for bringing this menory back to life.
I remember how horrified I was when he was arrested at the end of this sequence. I was very troubled by the turn of events. How could they do this to such a fun light hearted movie?!
I got surprised when I found out that an english man, made a movie about Hans Christian Andersen. It surprised me, because Denmark IS a small land. But then again, I thought of how talanted HCA was, and instead thought: He deserves no less than this. "I'm Hans Christian Andersen"

So much so that every time I saw a Danny Kaye movie, I'd say 'oh I love Hans Christian Anderson.' I am 24 years old. And I was today years old when I realised that Danny Kaye isn't Hans Christian Anderson
I WANT THIS MOVIE! How come I haven't ever heard about it? Well, I think it is nice that it's Christmas soon, I can give it as a present to my mom :D Merry Christmas Everybody !
I've never seen this movie. I only know the song because we were made to sing it for a primary school play. I didn't even know there was a movie, I just assumed it came from theatre or something.

Si alguien pudiera darme el dato se lo agradecería eternamente.
hey...not fair, this movie was made in the '50's' when Disney and musicals were popular. What would we know bout Scandanavia, especially then. And besides that HCA's stories were a major contribution to children's entertainment. This film was endearing to me as a child and very well done I might add!
Lyrics and music by Frank Loesser who also wrote Guys and Dolls, How to Succeed in Business, and that Christmas favorite Baby It's Cold Outside. I thought the best song in the movie was "Wonderful Wonderful Copenhagen". At least Danny Kaye tries to play the role somewhat straight. When acts like a banshee in his other films I just cringe.

Nice story. Been watching this movie since I was a kid. Still love it.
He was a dancer, a singer, an actor, a mime, among other things!

What a gloriously, multi talented man. What joy he brought and still brings. Thank you for posting!!!
How lovely, i am 50 and i used to watch this as a child. So decent and innocent compared to 2020 children stuff...

I have always enjoyed this movie. Danny Kaye made it great.
J'adore this movie!!! I get this song stuck in my head all the time and I haven't seen it in at least 8 years.
I was such a dumb kid. I used to watch this all the time and I really believed that he was Hans Christian Andersen. I love Danny K!
Hey don’t beat yourself up about that! I’ve actually heard a lot of people came to associate him heavily with/as the real Anderson
Denmark! What a wonderful country! Beautiful women, great food and thirst quenching beer!

Nor was the real HCA a cobbler, though his father was.
Er it's a film for kids not adults, Oh yes, of course children would of loved hearing Opera instead of telling story songs.
