Mr. Kaye stopped in Portland, Oregon on one of his tours. My parents were solid fans, and had shared many of his movies and jokes with me. We were center stage, front row at what was then known as The Portland Civic Auditorium, now The Keller Auditorium. Mr. Kaye sang his funniest songs, and told his best stories and jokes. I knew many of his jokes, and would begin to quietly giggle before the punch line. After a few times of unobtrusively giggling, Mr. Kaye looked down at me and said: “You’re making me feel very old!” This brought the house down! I had been so quiet about giggling, as not to be disrespectful, I didn’t think he had noticed. He was such a nice man. May his memory be as a blessing.
I loved inch worm. My uncle was in charge of entertainment at the Waldorf Astoria in New York and offered to get me autographs. The only one I ever asked for and got from him was Danny Kaye's. I absolutely adored him.
I loved Danny as an actor/singer when I was a child. I was born 1964 and one of my most favourite movies was Hans Christian Andersen. He always made me smile and had the most kind and happy face. In 1962 Danny Kaye was touring Asia to do USO shows. I was in Camp Zama, outside of Tokyo. We were never on the USO show calandar. He stopped in with little or no notice. The HS Gym filled up almost immediately and I was luckey enough to find a place to stand. Danny, by himself with no backup, charmed and delighted the audience with what appeared to be an effortless performance. I still consider it one of the highlights of my military service.😊

What a great tribute. I had no idea the depth of his career. Once in awhile in the 60's our teachers would treat us to 'movie day' with popcorn balls and Danny Kaye movies. They were the best and I just loved him. He was one of those people who's just different from everyone else in a magical way and changes the world for the better.

Around 1965 in Australia I wrote and requested a photo from Kaye and he responded. It was a copy of a signed photo but a real thrill to a young boy. It was a photo of him sitting and wearing a scarf or similar. It was inscribed “Best wishes Danny Kaye”. The envelope it arrived in was marked Danny Kaye, Hollywood USA. I’m almost 70 but still recall the details.
When Danny Kay came to England after the war, he always appeared on a radio show called In Town Tonight. It was always at 6 o’clock, Saturday nights. When my father and I heard Danny Kay would be on the program we made it’s a special date. He always took over the whole show which just didn’t happen on the BBC in those days. But they allowed him free reign to do anything he wanted. He was so funny and it lightened our rather dull life after dark years of war. We loved Danny Kay..
He passed away a few years after I was born but loved watching him in "Court Jester", "Hans Christian Anderson ", "White Christmas", "The Five Pennies", as well as the cameos and voice work he's done.
I fell in love with Danny Kaye after seeing him in Hans Christian Andersen in 1953. I knew he was married, but I didn't care. He was beautiful with this warm blue eyes, golden red hair, gentle voice, and soaring talent. But alas, it was not to be. Danny was 39. I was 5.

Sundays at 7am our national radio used to host the Sunday Mornings at Seven Childrens Request show where I remember well Dannys' many kids oriented shows. Clever Gretel, The Little Tune that Ran Away, are but two of his recordings that we kids hang on to every minute of, he was great. WOW nearly 60 years since I saw the film and I still remember that particular skit, it just goes to show how much we loved Dannys' work. If per chance you have never watched The Court Jester featuring Jacqimo, Jacqimo, King of Jesters, and Jester of Kings I strongly suggest you take the movie in. Gee there is another line from the film I remember like it was watched yesterday. The world lost a GREAT MAN when the Great Danny Kaye passed away. To THIS day I was unaware that Danny was in White Christmas with Bing Crosby, naturally everybody knows the title track but we forget that Danny was in there too, most likely holding the entire movie together with bis multi talents but Bings success with the title track sort of took all the limelight to the point where Kaye is sort of an afterthought...but not really, IMO he is that far ahead of Crosby when it comes to pure talent it is daylight between the two. RIP Danny Kaye and Thank You for the fantastic memories and congrats on your stellar career, you were a rare breed indeed and thank the Lord that I was alive to experience your multi talents.

I lived across the street from his High School, Thomas Jefferson High School (that's not the school in the video) on Pennsylvania and Dumont Avenues and my sister and I attended his Jr. High School 149, renamed Danny Kaye Junior High School on Sutter Avenue in East New York, Brooklyn. He did want to revisit his younger years in what was once a great, safe neighborhood and met with all of the students while there. In fact, Danny recorded our school song. My sister and I would always attend his Broadway performances in New York City sitting in the front row. We loved him. Again, the picture in this video of Thomas Jefferson High School is fictitious. It's NOT the one in Brooklyn. In fact, the original high school is still operating but nowhere near it's glory producing famous individuals in all walks of life. In fact, the former C.E.O. of Goldman Sachs, Lloyd Blankfein, was a Jeff graduate, and so was Shelley Winters and Steve Lawrence (who unfortunately just passed away). We knew him in the neighborhood by his original name, Sid, (Sidney Liebowitz.), and many more. Danny will always be a legend in our lives for his successes that gave us such happiness every time we would speak about him.

Leonard Nimoy went to the theater where Danny Kaye made a personnel appearance to promote his film. Afterwards Danny Kaye saw him on the street heading for his car. He ran to him and one of the body guards told him, "Beat it kid." He was very disappointed and said to himself, "If I ever become a famous Hollywood star I'll give anyone and everyone my autograph who asks for it." He actually did that. When the Star Trek show was on the air, he would get lots and lots of mail and he tried his best to answer all of it and it became impossible because there was just too much. He had to hire someone. However he did put in an autograph up on request. He did his best to keep up with the autographs but eventually it became impossible.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty was my introduction to the brilliant Mr Danny Kaye! I was a teenager and I still love that movie to this day ( I'm 61 now). He passed 2 days after I turned 24 on March 1.
