3:29 Rest in peace, Jeff Mattox, the owner and projectionist of the Mahoning Drive-In Theater, who sadly, passed away just last week. He will be sorely missed, but the legacy of his now-thriving drive-in theater will live on.
He will be truly missed 😢 ❤
Rest well, Jeff. I hope you are the lead projectionist in the great drive-in in the sky.
I have watched the documentary over and over again and you are the overwhelming reason why. Even though I never got to meet you, I admired you greatly.
Again, rest well, good sir.
This was great. I was getting all teary-eyed. I'm so blessed to have caught the Drive-In movie era.
Go there almost every weekend during the season. This place is heaven!!!
Lucky bastard! I'm in CT... I miss the drive-in.
Great documentary. Got me feeling nostalgic. We have 16 Drive Ins left in CA. But that’s nothing in such a big state as ours. ~ My condolences go out to all Jeff’s family and friends. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Also we are glad to here these awesome folks are carrying on and thriving. The legacy continues. 🎬📽🍿👽🛸
I built a few backyard theaters in memory of the ones we used to go to. Cartoons, snack bar. Intermission count downs and all. I still hit up a drive inn when I can. Happy Movie Watching Ya’ll
The Santee Twin drive in is where I caught the bug back in the 90’s. It’s been in business since ‘58. The development has filled in and surrounded it. It is currently threatened by becoming another warehouse. These things should be preserved like national monuments.
Great documentary. Only the last 2 minutes is muted for some reason...? and then it comes back for the last 5 seconds, "We hope you had a wonderful time, come back soon."
I would Love to visit The Mahoning Drive-in. I have lost count how many times i have watched this video. For me it would be a 20ish hour drive. Keep up the AWESOMENESS you all are doing.
This documentary touched my heart
I had the privilege of growing up in Ft. Collins Colorado where we have the Holiday Twin Drive In. Some of the best memories I had were my summers spent at the drive in. I fell in love with drive ins because of that theater. I've been to others but none seemed to have that classic feel. There's something tangible and special about keeping them the way they used to be. We can't let them die. We just can't.
My dad, Jeff Lewis, owned 3 drive in theaters. They used those arc projectors.
such a great documantary I hope its still running
This story and group of people... awesome, just awesome. My wife and I just watched this video by chance and really enjoyed it. If we ever pass through that way, we will definitely put it on the list of things to do.
Back in 2002 the _last_ still surviving and operative Drive-In in the Netherlands was forced to close down. It was a half hour drive from where I live and so I had the pleasure of watching an all-night horror show (4 horror movies in a row, including Dario Argento's "Sleepless") a year before it closed down. Watching horror movies on an enormous IMAX-sized screen from the comfort of your own car while eating warm greasy fast food and getting stoned on some good weed, but also still not forgetting to uphold that ancient Drive-In tradition of honking the horn every time blood and/or boobs is shown! Good memories, but the sad thing is that Drive-In Movie Theaters and videostores are now cinematic experiences from the past, gone and never to return, just like my youth.
Who else thought this was a documentary on The Mars Volta's old band?
Hi hello that would be me
Hahahahahahhaa dude I’m five minutes in trying to figure out when the two will correlate.. thanks to your comment I shall move on
@@edicreynaga5368 😂 still an interesting watch, give it a chance. But rock on! 🤘🏽
Thank you lol I'm going to the next documentary lol
My favorite doc! Can't wait to visit!
Yeah it's official....now that I've watched this I'm gonna pack up our Gladiator and Wrangler to bring the children, the wife, and all their friends to the closest drive-in out in Lakeland this summer. It's an experience everyone should have. Something that is just too few these days.
I would think of traveling to see and experience these folk. They are my inspirations. My town, has not had Any theater for many years, so I day dream of changing that. Love, this doc, seen it more times than I can count.
Thanks for watching (more times than you can count). The Mahoning is definitely worth visiting. They will embrace you like family.
There is a drive in movie theater near me and still running today. It plays newer movies. It runs during late spring to early fall. It was built in the 1950’s. I haven’t been towards it since 2005. I don’t liked to stay up late anymore or even driving at night. To me it was fun to go. My first time was in the early 1980’s.
I hit the button on this a few days ago to notify me when it airs n I thought something went wrong but tonight it beeped n what a great doc. Great team you guys are there. Blessings from Chicago.
Chicago! My parents used to take me to the Twin Drive-In by Paletine airport. I must have seen a hundred movies there. Great memories.
What a great document.
Glad you enjoyed it!😊
I love the experience of going to the drive in!
I'm glad this documentary is available again on TH-cam even though I did purchase the official DVD on Amazon as part of my physical media collection of VHS tapes, DVD's, Blu-rays, and 4K's. :)
Santee drive inn San Diego CA, to close forever Jan 2024 thank you, you'll be missed.
I enjoyed this film way cool. My buddy leaves not far from told me about this drive in I'm ever up that way I will come and see a movie..you guys make that drive in a fun time. God bless you all for keeping it alive.
Thank you all for trying so hard to keep the an original Drive in together. You all are doing a great job ! I’ll have to stop in one summer/fall evening to support. God bless.
Back in my day, there were 6 drive-ins within a 6 mile radius of where I lived. Today... NOTHING! I sure miss them. Of course, I can only imagine the prices of food at the snack bar if they survived to this day.
I still go to the one i went too in the mid 70's up here in madawaska maine , They went digital about 5-6 years ago.
If I were local I'd volunteer to help keep it running. I love old theaters and I'm fairly technically inclined. Proficent in electronic service.
Wow this is so inspiring pure dedication i wish that i was a part of this drive in ❤
Enjoyed up until final minutes with no audio.
DAMN I THOUGHT THIS WAS GONNA BE ABOUT THE BAND.
For me, I will keep the 35mm Projector’s and add digital projector and show both.
Hey Kings of Docs, the audio cuts out at the very end (1:17:15). We have the rights to that song. Please fix this so people can experience the ending. Thank you.
This issue hasn't been fixed so far. Very frustrating to miss the ending. Are you guys able to get in touch with them other than leaving a comment? Would love to hear the ending. (Love the doc' by the way!)
Thought this was doc about the post-hardcore band At The Drive-In lol
As many people who still want film, I like to think eventually movie studios would cave and start releasing on film again. But I bet the films will be more expensive than before. I don`t know, just guessing.
sad to see old film cinemas and drive inn cinemas and rare here in Australia now interesting documentary
Where does the sound come from? I'm not familiar with drive-ins without the little speakers that you hang on the car window.
Most drive-in theaters now have low-powered radio transmitters that broadcast FM signals that customers can hear on their car stereos.
The audio at the end is missing. :(
Where can I watch Demon Stone?!
How is the union projectionist for Mann theaters in California for 20 years
Thank you Jeff. Who needs that digital SHITTT anyways. Thank you for your service Jeff.
I can understand how this projectionist feels but progress moves on. I assume the horse and buggy business took a terrible hit at the start of the industrial revolution and when Henry Ford made cars affordable for working-class people. You can either buy a digital projector or run older movies. I love classics and older movies. Unfortunately, I'd be the only customer coming in to see Jeff's movies. I'd rather watch the older flicks but if Jeff was to cater to me, the poor man would go outta business!
So happy to see this on TH-cam!!
Thank you @KingsOfDocs 😊
I’m so excited to spend the night here tomorrow night!
Glad you are happy! Thanks for being here :)
@@kingsofdocs7228 Wouldn’t have missed this one for the world 🫡
Stick with the old movies! New movies aren't worth a Shit🎥🎥
Another great documentary guys but quit with the music dubbing over conversations cause it really sucks 👎
Demon stone 17:50 VHSfest 1:10:03
Aha.. this is not a documentary about At The Drive-in.
Where is jim ward and omar???? 😡
