- This is the starting episode of a video series that is dedicated to knurling.
There will be some theory, making the tool and at the end of the video series there will be drawings for anyone to use to build one.
In this episode, in addition to the thory, there will be very little machining. A very simple part is made for the tool.
In this video I use:
- Schaublin SV-51 (1955) Milling machine
Chapters:
00:00 Opening animation
01:00 Introduction
03:11 Some basic knurling theory
07:18 Construction of the chosen knurling tool
09:57 Setting up the milling machine for roughing
16:55 Rough milling the workpiece near the dimensions
20:40 Milling the workpiece to target dimensions
22:51 Using boring bar to achieve a better surface finish
24:38 Drilling two 6 millimetre holes
27:09 Milling recesses for the M6 cap screws
31:04 Conclusion
32:58 End credits
The video is spoken in English but it has good quality hand written subtitles in English, German and Finnish. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี
Whooohooo!!! English video! This is one of the best, least known machining channels on youtube.
Many Thanks for sharing this interesting project.
The animation is fabulous.
Wish you all the best for 2024!
That design is ingenious. As simple as it can get, but I'm sure it will work.
good job Finno
That intro is Bonkers man :)
Some good mushrooms up there in Finnland ?
Ha right? I need some of whatever that was. I was very confused, glad I held on.
The best mushrooms are frozen at the moment. We had -20 degrees Celsius last night. That is really cold because the sea is still open and the air is quite humid. It is like reverse tropics ...
I used to pick up mushrooms when I was working at Frankfurt am Main. Seemed like we share the same "Lieblingspilze" with Germans. "Trompetenpfifferling" is one of my favourites. The ones that give You visions are not in my list although Fly Agarics were eaten by shamans in order to get in contact with the ancestors. I pick mushrooms every autumn and enjoy those a lot.
How did You know?
@@FinnoUgricMachining Your intro looked like the kind of psychedelic Alice in wonderland style based on magic mushrooms :)
@@RotarySMP Yes, I understood that. I have actually made one intro with the Fly Agaric ...

Hi Esko,
that's a good beginning of this tool, and I can wait till the end for the correct drawings. How do you heet the workshop with -18 degrees outside? Thank you for sharing and explanation of the foces on the workpiece and Lath baerings
It is not that much of heating, it is also insulation. The workshop has an electric heater of 1500W and that is enough to keep it at 15 degrees. There is a high quality insulation (polyurethane foam) all over and especially in the ceiling. The window has three chambers (four glasses with argon in between). It is important to keep the heating power down as the price of the electricity jumps up during cold periods.
