      They'll be switching all platforms to 48V, and steer by wire. All vehicles will have modular dash units so that any percentage of the production line of any model can be a robotaxi.... and they'll also make a compact/van.

      The Chevy Bolt in the USA is $27k. Tax credits are $7,500 and states and utilities offer additional incentives. My friends mother just got one for $16k after all incentives. If Chevy updated their onboard charger so its not just 50kW, it would blow everything else out of the water. With the charger the way it is, its fine for a 7-hour road trip, but if I'm driving 14 hours I want a Tesla or something else with 150kW+ charging.

      I mean they would have to lower the prices drastically then. In the US, the Model 3 RWD is ~$39k and the 3 LR is ~48k with both NOT even qualifying for our federal EV tax credit ($7.5k off at purchase) so almost no discounts on the car. All the current Model Y trims are technically way cheaper than the refreshed Model 3 since those all qualify for our tax credit and additional Tesla discounts. IMO, the Model 3 is currently WAY too expensive in the US. When the Model Y refresh releases next year in the US, then both the Model Y and Model 3 prices are going to be pretty high (the SR RWD trims would prob be the only actual affordable options).

      They'll sell the Model 3 at cost and make money on the FSD subscription. That's how "razor blades not razors" works. The margin on M3/Y is probs about 20%, so they could lower the M3 price to high 20s.

    I don't think many with the FSD currently participating in the FSD trail will buy. It is great and works well, but $12K USD is just too expensive. If they could get it down to $4K or so, then a lot more would buy it. We have and like it, but $12K is just too expensive. They need to get the price way down.

    The Model 2 small car segment could likely be the most lucrative EV segment over the next decade, so there's no way any car company would abandon that segment. I would go as far as saying that any auto manufacturer that ignores the model 2 small car segment, will likely seal the doom of their auto company. Thus it simply wont happen. Cancellation is not an option.

    The full self driving don't work.
    I use it frequently.
    It's everything from annoying, to dangerus.
    1. It don't read signs:
    Here in Norway we have electric signs for speed. Tesla can't read them.
    2. suddenly the car breaks on the highway from 100 to 30 km, because the road crossing the highway have a 30 kmt limit!
    3. When you come to a merging lane, the car follows the center. This means that it turns hard at the end. Annoying but, can be dangerus.
    4. In the rain the cars self driving, limits the speed, and frequently tuns off. This has become worse with the upgrades. Looks like the system are going away from lidar.
    If you turn of the full self driving, and try to use just "adaptive cruise control" you still get the breaking problems, and it looks like It's afraid of big vehicles.
    In the winter this is 2-3 times worse.
    Maybe this works in California on a sunny day, but in the winter when you need to find your lane, and you don't see any markings this is a whole new ball game.

      The model 3 is pretty wide for the U.K. we would like a golf sized hatch. It’s not really cities, although some parts are narrow, small parking bays etc. But in the countryside… where I drive every day, small roads can JUST fit two cars in, so when a car comes the other way, you have to slow down, pull in to a wide section, let the other car go past etc. So the model 3/y just makes all this a bit harder. A lot of Europe has similar narrow lanes.

    I read a tweet on X that mentioned the Model Q (the compact car) would essentially be the robotaxi design but will have a steering wheel which the robotaxies will not (Elon relied to it with an emoji or something). So does that mean that this compact $25k car is just going to be a 2-seater with 1 driver, 1 passenger, and a hatchback design for some storage?
    Also I believe that on 8/8, Tesla will unveil the robotaxi and prob the Model Q which will just have a similar design but with a steering wheel. Then they'll focus solely on the robotaxies and the Model Q will be released down the road since it's prob not the biggest priority (the robotaxies and FSD look like they currently are since this is what Tesla has been talking about for the last several years).

    I think they haven't given up on the M2 but they are rethinking the whole "all new production processes, engineers will have to sleep on the assembly line until it gets sorted" approach. The leaked email in the Reuters report actually says "suppliers should halt all further activities related to H422/NV91". Elon has said in the past that Tesla could sell the vehicles at cost and make their margins on software. With the FSD improvements they might no longer feel that they need to invent an entirely new production process - with the cost and slow ramp-up it entails - and instead use existing processes to make an affordable car they can then sell FSD subscriptions for. And also make a robotaxi version of that.

    I read this corporate response as waffling about the future of the Model 2 because Elon has made questionable internal decisions. Maybe he’s told everyone they’ll cancel it, but that’s not realistic market positioning for Tesla’s EV lineup, and there will eventually be a Model 2. It’s gotta be tough working for Tesla with Elon in charge and everyone trying to work with and around him. They’ve seen a lot over the years.

The times it worked, it worked better than when I went on a road trip in another friends Tesla with an FSD trial in 2019, however in a two hour trip, it had 3 phantom braking incidents, 4 braking incidents that I'm not calling "phantom braking" because I realized after the 2nd time that when it sees a fresh patch of asphalt on an old sun faded road it thinks its an obstruction, 3 incidents of kicking me out of FSD for no reason I could see, 1 incident of kicking me out of FSD claiming the car was over the breakdown lane (it wasn't, but all the lines were faded, which is what I think caused it), 3 incidents of not noticing speed limit signs and 12 incidents of me accidentally taking it out of FSD when I turned the wheel too hard when it prompted em to prove I was in control by turning the wheel slightly. As it is now, I don't see any value in it. I assume someone will eventually have real Full Self Driving, but its not a Tesla in 2024.

    Books on Elon Musk have repeatedly reported that Tesla staff often ignore Elon and secretly work on a car with pedal and a steering wheel when Elon dictates that a car should be with out.

    Has anyone from Tesla ever stated just how these robo taxis are going to be charged without a driver to plug them in? Wireless perhaps, or going back to the barn to be plugged in by an attendant?

    • @External2737
      @External2737 หลายเดือนก่อน

      What an easy job for the robot. Just drive to a supercharger with the robot, the robot plugs it in. Ideally, the robotaxi could just eject the charger and drive on.

      @@External2737 So you're saying that a supposedly driverless taxi will require a Tesla robot? Or am I misunderstanding? If so , that would negate the savings of a lost job of a human driver.

      @@jamesr.9239 I'm saying the charging station would require a robot. One for every 16 to 20 Robotaxis. A human costs, with taxes, 2x, to 3x a robot per year (if not more).

    Dude, Tesla’s robotaxi with no steering wheel will not be for sale, it will only be part of a wholly-owned Tesla fleet!
    Yes, there will be a $25k consumer-facing model-2 for sale to the public with steering wheel based on the new-gen platform. Tesla will replace Toyota, Honda, VW, GM, Ford, etc as the go-to mass-mkt sub-$30k brand in the West.
    I’m waiting for my new all-electric Mercedes-Benz ML with “Tesla Inside”!🤔

  • @christopherfry2844
    @christopherfry2844 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It should be obvious. Elon's model2 was going to be only a robotaxi without a steering wheel. Franz argued that Tesla could build a small car on the same platform. Elon agreed with Franz. The way FSD is going. Elon now wants the robotaxi to be the priority. The small car will now come after the robotaxi but that does not mean that the small car couldn't emerge while robotaxi is handling the regulators.

    • @christopherfry2844
      @christopherfry2844 หลายเดือนก่อน

      [Further] I suspect that Elon thinks that the only reason people have small cars is because there are no robotaxis. Small cars are hard to make safe.

  • @user-yl4st7wi5w
    @user-yl4st7wi5w หลายเดือนก่อน

    FSD will make tesla way more money than the small margins on cheap EVs so i don't think Model 2 is a high priority. I think alot of cheap volume EVs are held back by lack of volume for latest battery technologies. In the US batteries need to be made in the US to get the incentives and incentives will be critical for cheaper volume EVs like model 2. Model 2 will probably $30K and only under $25K with incentives. So Model 2 not before 2026 in any sort of volume.

      If a self driving car is safer than a car driven by a human, then the question would be posed why do we allow human drivers? How many road related deaths are human error? There were approximately 40,990 deaths last year. If you have a "cure" for this death, or even a remedy, being a car driven by a computer, then surely that is a good idea. Anything that can drive the road toll downwards significantly is a good idea don't you think?
