It is a blessing in disguise for citizens in countries with no major car industry. Look at the US and Europe. Their citizens will be forced to pay high prices for not only EVs, but also ICE cars in the absence of price competitive EVs.

Japanese brands own the market segment China wants so it will hurt them more than all other brands. Ford, GM, and Stellantis no longer make affordable cars so they have time to respond if consumers start downgrading without also losing sales. Consumers don't always buy the "best" car so quality is not an advantage. Kia stated out making lower quality cars, I remember Jay Leno making fun of them every night on the Tonight Show. But they still sold enough of them to get better and look at them now.

Toyota's are for pensioners......them and all Japanese.....give them just another 10 years and it's over.
Just an example. My 80 year old neighbour needed a SUV around 20.000 aud. Time to retire his old Honda Civic sedan from 2010.
I told him it was going to struggle to find something at that price, even second hand.
He didn't believe me at first, but as soon as he started to go around dealers..... he soon found out the the hard truth. And soon later I saw him driving a 2022 MG HS. Paid 20.000 aud!
He was happy with the price, but the poor man, strugg7with warnings and technology.
One week later I saw him driving a Suzuki Vitara. He said he couldn't drive the new car, and his young nice swap her 2017 Vitara with 140.000 kms for the newer one, and he was happy, cause this car has no tec ar all.
So my point is, these ICE company cars with their old tech, will still sell for the next 10 years. Cause people between the age of 70 and 80 will want something old school (apologies for the people out there over 70 that drive a Tesla, I have seen a few....cool).

“Economic complementarities” have led to “robust” Russian imports of oil and gas to China. Chinese reliance on substantial oil imports will likely “persist”, although future gas import requirements are more uncertain. Dr Erica Downs, senior research scholar at the Center on Global Energy Policy at Columbia University, told Carbon Brief she does not think it has been “definitively decided in China” what role gas will play in its energy transition, but that this role may be smaller than previously assumed. She added that Russian oil is attractive to Chinese policymakers, as overland oil pipelines reduce China’s reliance on “vulnerable” sealane routes and Russia’s war with Ukraine allows Chinese buyers to get discounted rates on Russian barrels. China’s increased oil and gas imports, following western sanctions on Russian oil, provided an “economic lifeline” to Russia in exchange for “securing cheap supplies”, according to the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI). Imports from a politically aligned partner are “vital” for China’s energy - and, therefore, economic - security, according to Chatham House.

The NATO media always wants to place Russia as dependent on China and of course blame China for this war between Russia and Ukraine. Why doesn't anyone mention that India buys Russian oil and sells it to the EU at a higher price? The same happens with the more expensive Russian gas that is resold by Turkey to the EU.

Japan will loose its lead in the countries that have no auto manufacturer industry and have no tariffs on autos . Thats allot of business lost for Toyota . They still have solidly have Japan and North America and that should be good for a bit as the US will not allow China to destroy the auto sector in America . Now this will slow EV adoption as there is not enough capacity to build EVs in the US to get past 20 percent and that maybe a generous assumption . Elon eludes to Tesla putting on the brakes . Mexico giga is on hold and it maybe awhile . Now he did get approval for increasing giga Germany but will he build that anytime soon ? Now he is top dog in Europe so additional capacity maybe prudent . The cyber truck did not help to electrify America . The model 2:was a much better option to do that

Who speaks for Toyota. Toyoda the grandson of the founder got the company into this position with his inept leadership 2009 to 2023. No new ideas, no innovation, no anything. He was kicked upstairs to Chairman in May 2023 and replaced as CEO by Sato. But Sato has said practically nothing while the utterly incompetent Toyoda just will not shut up - peddling the same drivel about EV's as he has for years. Effectively that renders the company leaderless. Sato and the Board must ditch the old guard of Toyoda if the company is to survive. Unfortunately Toyoda was there so long most of the Senior positions are still held by appointments from his period of CEO. Prognosis, poor, very poor.
