We had our high school reunion and some of our classmates were absent.
'Debbie' was not there. She had moved away. Got Married and had children. She ran a day home to she could be at home with her kids.
    She also babysat a newborn.
The newborn was sleeping in one of the bedrooms. The house caught on fire. Debbie got all the kids out and went back for the newborn.
The Firemen found Debbie in a bed on top of the newborn trying to sheild the little one from the flames. They both had died.
Such sad stories, such as this one. 😪

When you say their names, you become a “Legacy Guardian.” It’s when their names are no longer spoken they are forgotten. Thank you for being a “Legacy Guardian” by saying the names of those lost and sharing their stories, no matter how tragic. 🙏

    • @helenbricka4614
      @helenbricka4614 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@zekesgirl100 I wish I could take credit for the term “Legacy Guardian”, but it was coined by the Veteran owned company Til Valhalla. Some of us have become “Legacy Guardians” due to the 22 a day, KIA, or their service. It’s important to say the names of anyone who was loved & lost. In time, when they are no longer mentioned by anyone it means they never existed. 😔
I just love how Til Valhalla was able to sum up in 2 words what Faces of the Forgotten does for so many, says their names. ❤️

Thank you Ron for introducing me to little Shirley and her father, in the early 60s there was a little girl I called my friend I can't remember her name now but she was lost in a fire, early one morning I remember her sister and brother come to my grandparents house screaming and crying saying that their house was on fire and their little sister was in the house, at my tending age of 4 years, I never forgot the horror that I felt in the sickness in my stomach and for years I was so scared of fire, everyone have a natural fear of fire, but I was overwhelmed with the idea of our house being burnt down at any given time. I only wish I could remember her name. Rip to little Shirley and her dad and my first friend from so long ago.

This is so tragic. This poor father was in a panic, the worst condition to be in to try and think straight. It's easy to say later, I should have done this or that instead. I'm so sorry for this dad and the loss he had to struggle with daily, but I understand his grief. When your most treasured gift from God is gone, especially when you feel it was at your own hands, you just want to be where they are. The pain is real. RIP Shirley and James, together again 💞

If I would have just done this. If I had never done that. What a dreadful, heavy burden to carry around! I personally know this pain and I'm willing to bet there are many others who know just what I'm talking about. We are only human. We all make choices we regret. But when it involves a death it's a gut wrenching thing to deal with.

A most horrifically tragic story which you told with heartbreak in your voice. As you always do a piece of you stays behind in these stories & those of us who follow love you for your compassion.
It is beyond cruel that the memorial
Plaques have been removed especially from the apartment buildings which continue to profit
Perhaps an updated News story in the local papers would be a wonderful reminder of humanity. In fact a portion of the rent collected should be donated to the causes the Father felt could express his love for his daughter. And yes buildings are torn down & change ownership; for the places where the plaques were removed it is beyond reproach to consciously profit every time a rent is collected by a ruthless owner who chooses to forget
The 60's is not that long ago. People will remember.
I wish all of us could hug you Ron & comfort you a little following each of these stories. We feel your pain even virtually

  • @JoMarieM

This is so heartbreaking on so many levels. I can't imagine the truckload of guilt that the father must have gone through after his daughter died so tragically. Probably he thought everything from "Why did I leave those flammable materials so close to a gas stove in the kitchen?" (something I was wondering about myself), to "Why didn't I try to put the fire out myself, instead of leaving my child alone to get burned up?" "Why did I tell her to stay put instead of trying to escape?" and "I could have done more to save her." But I guess that sometimes, when you're in a state of panic, you don't think very clearly, and you make decisions that turn out to be very fatal. I also wonder why the two aren't buried next to the mother -- my guess is that maybe they were living in another city when the mother passed away, and her grave is elsewhere. Or even sadder, maybe she ran off and abandoned her husband and daughter, and they wanted nothing to do with her after that. And then the father's mental breakdown that eventually led to his taking his life -- sadly, paying attention to mental health was not a thing in that era, and grieving people were often left to work through it on their own as best as they could. Just such as sad, sad story!

Such a heartbreaking story about these two wonderful people. Life can just be too much sometimes. So sad she perished and so sad he could not go on living. It really is sad that there isn't even just a document at the Tourist Information Center or even at the Chamber of Commerce or something to state that the buildings originally located at these addresses in 1963 were dedicated in her honor. Just something framed and hanging up on one of the walls inside.
It is so thoughtful and kind of you to clean up their stone and to give her a sunshiney rose and to try to put the year he died on his stone. It is heart warming just knowing you and being a part of your gang. ❤🌹

Oh what a very sad story… 💔 heartbreaking. James proved by his actions following Shirley’s death how devastating losing a child is, especially by an accident, when you believe you failed them in some way…so much so no matter what you try to do to keep your child’s memory alive and replace the loss, the heart will never heal. His only choice for his mental sake, was to go and be with her in the afterlife. May they both Rest in His sweet Peace.

@@marlenepearson3936 Still it gets crazier by the minute out there. Wait until the new purge law goes into effect in 1/1/2023. I won’t visit Chicago again. Not giving that city one Penny of my money until they get a new Mayor that actually cares about the city of Chicago and does something to improve the city not destroy it.

This is tragically a sad story. I'm so sorry for how he must have felt. And I hope it went fast for his little girl, that she didn't suffer very long. I hope they are both at peace and together.

As always Ron, another amazing video/narration!! This story is so extremely heartbreaking 😥...I honestly feel that any of the ppl/new owners that took down those plack's are disgraceful and truly disrespectful!! To me, I feel that plack's and memorials should ALWAYS stay in place no matter how much time goes by!! But some ppl let their ignorance get the best of them I guess...but my thoughts heart and prayers go out to this beautiful little angel and to her father who will forever be hand and hand with her together in Heaven!! May that both RIP!!
    🙏💜😥💞

A truely heartbreaking story. Now no longer forgotten thanks to you. Maybe the date of James's death not being on their stone may be because he gave all his money away so there was nothing left to pay for it. If so this makes it even sadder. Thank you from England for all your hard work in allowing the stories of so many peoples lives to live on.

Maybe an effort could be made to locate the plaques. They might be sitting in storage somewhere...
