Hey, your videos are very well done. I love your b-roll shots that feel like the film you're shooting, plus the laid back but clearly knowledgeable dialog. You killed it.
It seems like CS 400d is a kodak vision3 250d without the halation layer, which is a great thing since kodak vision3 is probably the most advanced film stock ever, the stuff cinematographers use to shoot. I just wished that it wasnt priced at 15 dollar a roll.
My thing about this is, ecn2 development is readily available for 10 bucks a roll, so myself I would prefer to shoot 250D and avoid the halations. Don't get me wrong, I'm extremely happy to see this stock available and I did order some. I'd just prefer to keep the halations with 800t :-)
If you check out last weeks podcast episode of Analog Talk with Brandon and Brian Wright (the brothers behind cinestill) they mention it being their first original emulsion film. So it is likely in some way using vision3 stock but isn’t just a simple repackaging like their previous stocks and has a unique chemical makeup.
@@Zetaphotography I don't believe for a heartbeat that's sin cinestill has the R&D capability of creating a new color negative film. Even if they somehow accomplished that, it's still full of halations, which means I would rather shoot 250D. Don't get me wrong, I ordered a whole bunch of it and I am glad to see it on the market.
Once again, really enjoyed the format here. Quick, informative, fun. I didn’t know about hullation before & the pictures at the start were really great! Keep it up!
I LOVE your story telling, i know this is a film roll video but damn girl... every single one of your videos are like a little movie filmed and narrated by you. Ly
Some shots in there for the ages, awesome video Taylor and ty for showing us Cinestill 400 (I personally love 800T already so this will be sweet I think.)
There's something new! Amazing intro, epic, dramatic and stunning at the same time! And I really like the colors of this film, especially at daytime on the streets. As usually thank you so much for inspiration!!!☄️
Cinestill 400d was my first ever film roll (last year). I fell in love with how warm colors come out as well as the kind of green tint I got out of greyish tones. I will say that I did not like how actual green landscapes look. I don't know how to describe it but scenes with a lot of foliage, cool blues and greens looked kind of drab. Anyway, that's just my experience and I ended up 4:22 I grabbing a second one which I'm excited to use, knowing what to grab and what to avoid.
ugh, I can't wait to shoot and make a video with this film stock too... I especially love the shot at 1.38, silhouetted out a bit, with the monstera *chefs kiss*
Nice shots! I miss the Byways Cafe, everything was so big and homemade. I would meet friends at the end of the night there because they opened early. The helations make your indoor shots look really dreamy.
Love seeing this review of CineStill 400! I'm taking a 10-pack with me on vacation in about a week and a half and I was a little concerned with how it might look (the trip is to Ireland and Scotland... weather can be less than ideal... :) ) But it looks awesome! Thank you!
Looks great! Keep up the videos. I can't wait to get the two rolls I ordered! Gonna take the train to Chicago and shoot it and give my thoughts as well
Great video. Looking forward to shooting a roll of this new film. Also, I just moved from Portland and it was good to see The recognizable images. Missing PDX!
YAY! Looking forward to getting mine (and I got the cool JCH 35mm holder too). Also didn't know you were in Portland! I'm out in the forest in Yamhill, and let's just say it's been raining non-stop since October it feels like :P Oh yeah, and snow. If this is 250D it looks like you might be better off shooting at 320 or so as it REALLY handles overexposing (7 stops). Looking at the spec sheet of 250D it should do -3 stops, but the videos I've watched by ADC's say they would only really do -1 and feel comfortable in not introducing too much color in the shadows and increasing grain. The good news is that tonality curves are like Portra, but with a much better handling underexposure than Portra. Question for you: Is the base clear on this film? That helps so much for people who do "DSLR scans" as the orange base of regular color film is really hard for even NegLabPro to do correctly and where flatbeds with their special "pass" to read the rebate color still have an advantage. Oh, and there is a Lomo film walk thing downtown tomorrow sponsored by Pro Photo Supply I'm going to, so I'll wave in your general vicinity! ;)
Eddy the BTS photographer on Euphoria shot all the BTS on your exact camera setup. He had two G2’s strapped around his shoulders. One with 45mm. The other with the 90mm I believe. But he was rockin porta
My guess is that it's not really ISO400 but ISO250 based on what Kodak Vision they use to make this. I would not expose this at 400 but 250, or even 200. You can always add in contrast later.
Love the intro! Oh now I can’t wait to get mine in the mail! Did you manually adjust your camera settings or just let it rip on auto for your first roll?
But let’s talk about the real star if this video…. Those awesome orange glasses!!!!!!!!! So fly!!!! And obviously these pics slap. That grain check image 🤌🏼
You're Killing it Tay! I'm gonna try get me some of this as soon as I can 😋 Also did you have any filters on while filming the intro shot or is it mostly in post?
Do you have any recommendations regarding the camera stores in Portland? I’m a few hours south, but I’m heading up there for a wedding this summer and would love to know if there’s anywhere Worth dropping by.
I have 120 and 135 on the way. I wanted to support cinestill in this effort, however I'm not particularly excited about this film. The halatians are just not my thing in daylight. The photos in the video are fantastic:) I think if I was going to shoot a lot of the vision3 stock I would opt for the real thing - i.e. shoot 250d and process in ecn2 since the kits available now are not much more difficult than c41. Even just with Google I see half a dozen Labs that offer ecn2 35mm development for 10 bucks a roll. I do think the potential of 220, and the 4x5 are huge developments here though, and if those are available moving forward I will certainly leverage those!
Sheeeesh, was waiting for this one! These shots are fire, my favourite one being that absolute banger at 1:25! The look offered by this stock is so good, can't wait to try it. Do you plan to shoot some rolls of 400D on medium format as well? Cheers!
I was waiting for this! Sick shots, sick stock! A pity they're out of stock everywhere now. I'm also waiting to see if they're gonna release the stock in 220 even though they didn't reach the goal. 🤞

This is a really really cool compliment. I appreciate it so much. Thank you for watching!!
Oh yes!Waiting for a roll to come in.This is going to be super cool.
Nice video, by the way :)

Aren't all cinestill film vision 3 apart form the b&w stuff?
That's what everyone is regurgitating but if you pay attention to the makers. It's a new stock.

Hey Taylor! That indoor shoot was so good!! I love the tones and the grain! So glad they kept the halations on 400D as well!
Thank you so much!! Can’t wait to use it more intentionally next roll
I absolutely love your production. Those indoor shots were great! Keep it up
the color and grain looks amazing!
Great video, I like your dialog and editing. Oh, and your photography too!

One day!!! It’s coming 💜
Love the intro! Oh now I can’t wait to get mine in the mail! Did you manually adjust your camera settings or just let it rip on auto for your first roll?
Thank you!! Such drama haha
Oooh! So exciting. I ripped in auto for these 🙃
What lens did you record this with the XT4
i like the difference in the shadows compared to the video with 800t
I want to shoot some of this. Looks very similar to Lomo 800 to me. Never tried Lomo 400.
i thought you were gonna go the whole video without a graincheck but glad i was wrong :)
Made you all get to the end 😂
Love!!!
yess love it!! ahh i can’t wait to get mine
Stoked for everyone to shoot it 💜
LETS GOOOO this vid is heat

Ooooooooooooooh 👀
such a cool concept! Now Cinestill needs to get the stocks in stock lol!
2:35 I want to live in that frame

What 35mm camera did you use for this photo shoot?
A Contax G2 with the 28mm lens

I love a little DRAAAMMMAAAAA
you still shoot with the xt4 for all your TH-cam videos ?
Yes!
ohh a fellow G2 user! Have you tried the 90mm yet? That's one of the best portrait lenses I've ever used.
