  • When I had the opportunity to speak for a class assignment, I decided to pick the topic, The Importance of Reading Books, in an attempt to convince more people to devote some time towards reading.
    The lighting in this video may not be as great, but I can promise you that I make some important points.
    In the comments, let me know who is that one person who got you started with reading? Whether it is a family member, a friend, someone you saw on TV or anyone else...

    Wow.. just wow.. i haven't been so attentive even during my college lectures. Was able to connect so much and got really inspired. I was not really appreciated by my friends and relatives for my reading habit. They thought I'm wasting my time on fictions rather than studying. But I felt so happy after watching this video that i became ur fan. Gonna binge watch rest of ur videos :)

People who recognize and use the power of stories that hold potential to change the world (even if one person at a time)...especially, the ones contained within books.

    Wow.. Beautifully explained. Came to know u through helly's video where u had commented.. I have started reading for the past two months. Initially, I hated reading fictions thinking they can't teach life lessons but your saying that somebody's fiction can be somebody's reality made it clear that fictions can also guide us n I'll definitely look out at that. My life is very stressed n I am feeling more of so in these tough times due to the pandemic as I am confined to a room without going outside too much. Reading books help in these times to stay positive.. Can u plz recommend some inspirational books mam?

    With all due respect I would like to differ. I believe reading fiction is a way of escapism. What is the point in investing one's energy and time in subjective experience of other. Yes, reading fiction makes you more empathetic and kind of soft. I too started reading with fiction but realised it's much better to understand objective reality and accept the harsh truth about universe and people with science and psychology. Learning Cosmology and evolution makes you humble and greatful for the opportunity of being alive. It completely changed my perspective of the world and universe. And hence my interpretation of events and reaction to it.
    Having said that And my only concern about reading is how to pronounce words correctly? Just like you pronounced dystopian as "DIASTOPIAN".
    happy reading to you.

    • @MeeraNair
      @MeeraNair  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, Mandar. Of course everyone has their own perspective :) While it's great that you find meaning in reading books about cosmology, some people are only looking to find a sense of belonging; the idea that there are other people in the world who have experienced something similar.
      Then there are some who are merely looking to be entertained. 🤷
      To think of it, even several instances of objective reality are framed by people with their own subjective experiences and insight. So I don't think you can completely do away with subjectivity in many cases.
      One thing I've begun doing to help with better pronunciation is to listen to audiobooks and podcasts. Try reading a book while also listening to the audiobook - it's great and will definitely help you pronounce words more accurately :) Hope that helps!
      Happy Reading to you too!
