I may already be completely fluent in English but I still like this! There are definitely idioms I don’t get yet, and I think this video would be great for students learning English in school!
Hit the sack 0:13 Break a leg 0:49 Call it a day 0:55 Under the weather 0:55 Spill the beans 0:55 See eye to eye 3:08 A piece of cake 3:40 The last straw 4:15 Cost an Arm and a leg 4:54 When pigs fly 5:29
Thank you, I love idioms and this is such a nice way of learning them! Because I hear the idioms in different situations and in different forms, I understand them. Thank you! :)
Minor correction; break a leg is usually used to wish someone good luck in acting or some kind of performance art. That's why all the examples in the video occur either on a stage/backstage or at an audition. You typically wouldn't use it in an everyday scenario.
I'm not sure that you're a native or not. But I literally heard it in the movie, teenagers in high school theme, where a girl wished to her friend "break a leg" for her exam. The word derived from opera culture but it's not limited for using only in performance/acting situations.
@@jojomorgan Depends how you define the term, but for all intents and purposes I am essentially native. I agree that it's not exclusively used in performance art but, 9 times out of ten, people outside of that context will say "best of/good luck" rather than "break a leg".
Absolutely ageee this is a fun way of learning idiomatic phrases. I've spent the past year compiling clips from film and television and to date have amassed a ballpark figure of 5hrs worth.
Thank you .It was a great experience to meet this idiomatic expression. It will help all advanced level learners to enhance their knowledge about their particular area of this portion .Thank you for this channel.
Wow!! What an amazing (and hard) job!! Thanks, I’m showing them to my students! I have always wanted to do something like this to help them, it’s super useful!
Much more polished up from the Instagram video, it’s great opportunity for us to savor the meaning with situation. Thank you for posting these videos. Please keep up your fabulous jobs.
How do you find these clips? Do you search the corpus first and then find the clips in the episodes that pop up in the corpus? or is there a special search engine going through videos and a phrase in different tv series (something like youglish but for tv series)?
Wow I have a great time while watching this video. Can I use the movie scene part in my video? it’s for my English assignment. I’ll give u credits 🙏❤️❤️
Hey 👋 you're very welcome, and I'm glad to hear that you're starting to learn English! And yes, people do commonly use the idioms we mentioned in the video. ( Don't worry about mistakes. They're a natural part of the learning process.) Keep it up! 😊
We also shorten it like, "piece a cake." It's common to see, "a" replacing, "of" in casual conversation. So you might hear, "Bunch a people." instead of, "Bunch of people."
1.Eye to eye- agree with each other 2.when pigs fly- it's impossible, not will happen 3.it lasts straw-not much tolerate anymore 4. It cost an arm and leg -something is expensive 5.hit the sack- go to sleep 6.

We also shorten it like, "piece a cake."
