Hi Lucy 😊 i'm Algerian English student and my original language is Arabic which has no relation with English language but we have a nearly similar background according to our use of French in our daily life,so it was a little bit easy to learn English but the hardiest thing that we faced was to learn how can we speak English with an accent either British or American because we r still being confused to use them so that we mixed them all the time and we were told that it's a mistake ....i realy like your way explaining us how to be or act like a native speaker and speak English as a British ones i found your videos very very beneficial and clear😍 thank you a lot❤

Best teacher ever. I really enjoy listening to that lovely accent you have, Lucy. Idioms, prepositions and phrasal verbs are the most difficult topics when I study English, however they are my favourite ones : )
Lucy, you are the best in teaching English for me. Hometask: Your lesson is definetly NOT a drop in the ocean in our English studies, though using all today's idioms may seem to bite off more than we can chew. On the other hand, we should pull ourselves together and to bend our backwards trying to do our best. But don't be too hard on yourselves and cut yourselves a slack from time to time in order to do your best .
Thank you for your teaching , i really learn a lot of phrases today ! If you can combine the actual native speakers conversation with all the phrases which you’ve taught us, it would be more mesmerizing!🙏😀
By the way, I love your lessons! I am trying to improve my English every single day, especially this year when I am going to get British citizenship and I need to pass English test in order to go for the last test, Life in UK test. Thank you for your effort, Lucy.
On the IELTS exam day I was really nervous. I even started to think that I had hurried to choose the nearest date and bitted off more than I could chew. But then just before the exam I said to myself. Pull yourself together Focus on the questions! and forget about your fears! My exam passed succesfully, especially listennig and reading sections were a piece of cake. My band score was 7.5 and I was over the moon because it was sufficient for me.
I am a 7 grade student. My classmates always give me the project to do because I am the leader. I am too innocent. So, “I always bite off more than anyone chew but this time I will not be doing their work”. Thank you Lucy for giving your time for making these videos. Now I can confront my classmates. You made my day.
Dear Lucy,I am a regular follower of your channel. Besides yours,I follow other 3 channels but I found yours the best as you can easily make somebody understand.
My homework: 1. I want to make my own game, but I feel it would not be popular, because it'd be a drop in the ocean. 2. I called my cousin to ask her when she's free to go out, but she didn't respond. Now I'm waiting for her to call me back - the ball is in her court. 3. My mother is very helpful and she'd bend over backwards to make things done. 4. I won the competition by the skin of my teeth. It was definitely not a piece of cake! 5. I was a judge at the contest, but I felt like wanting to sit on the fence and rather not vote.
Very good, I have 2 small suggestions for you! :) For #4, "by the skin of my teeth" is usually used to mean that you just barely managed to complete something either because you a) didn't try as hard as you should have or b) you underestimated how difficult it would be. If 2 runners were to finish a race at almost the same time, we wouldn't say that the winner won "by the skin of his teeth", because it would sound a little negative. A good example would be "Wow, I didn't study for that test as much as I should have! I only passed by the skin of my teeth!" For #5, "on the fence" usually implies that you are having difficulty deciding something. I'm not sure if I've ever heard someone say that they wanted to sit on the fence, as it is usually a position people don't desire. "I can't decide between going to France or Spain.. I'm still on the fence".
I usually don't necro, but I just noticed something I felt like I had to point out. The expression is "getting things done", so in 3, one should use "to get things done".
I had better pull myself together and stop stressing about using five favourite idioms in sentences! Calm down, this is a piece of cake because it is like a drop in the ocean compared to the herculean tasks I'm given by my merciless teachers on daily basis! I do not need to bite off more than I can chew and burned-out! All I need is to get my head around these idioms and try to succeed by the skin of my teeth! I hope, Lucy would cut me some slack with this homework!
Thank you very much Lucy. In Thailand, we do have the one similar to “cry wolf”, but we call it “cry sheep”. Also, for “miss the boat”, we call it “miss the train”. I enjoy your lessons and your beautiful accent of a native English.
That's interesting! In Russia we have a similar expression to "miss the train": the "train has gone", i. e. you've lost a chance. Our cultures aren't close and it's very interesting to see these two expressions so close to each other
Hlo. First of all i am your new follower from India. I would say thanks for teaching English in soo much better way. And I am learning new after seeing your videos. I just love u and love the way u speak. Thanks again ❤
I'm surprised that you guys didn't have (or forgot to mention) some popular idioms which is popular here like - "once in a blue moon" "Speak of the devil" "A shoulder to cry on" "Beat around the bush"
Homework done by Gunjarie Dasgupta! 1) I can't believe it, i helped you so much and you sold me out! 2) i want to be a drop in the ocean. 3) You might have seen her lying through her teeth. 4) Stop working and put yourself together. 5) You might have missed the boat for this examination.
1. He was irritating me, then the teacher said, "it takes two to tango." 2. She has a habit of adding fuel to the fire. 3. When she asked me about the presentation. I replied, "my guess is as good as yours." 4. It is so true that actions speak louder than words. 5. I've been biting off more than I can chew.
I like the way you teach 🥰😍 Sentences: 1. He appeared out of the blue 💙 2. She is crying wolf when it comes about her husband. 3. She cuts a chase every time when she takes extra work. 4. She gave her 5$ , but it's just a drop in the ocean for her. 5. She needs to cut her daughter some slack - she is still young.
HI Lucy! Thank you for the video. I wonder how you easily explain some idioms..perfect It's great to hear your pronunciation and to try to repeat your temp!!!
U may think that teachin' this is just a drop in the ocean... But drop by drop the ocean may overflow... So, it's up to u now u wanna make more videos like this or not, the ball's in ur court... One more thing, u've had this channel for a long time, i'm pretty sure that in the very beginning u must've cried wolf all the time but it's pretty clear too that u've stepped up ur game and u've sb like no other... I also know sometimes u might be askin' urself in the mirror "what should i record today?" and then ur image replies "well, ur guess is a good as mine" but even though u talk to urself, ur a good person to urself... Proof of it is "u've never sold urself out"... Tks for the knowledge! Cheers from Brazil! ♥
Well, I am preparing for competitive exams and for that I've bitten more than i can chew but i failed by the skin of my teeth. Ahm! To cut to the chase i am not gonna give up and my actions will soon speak louder than my words. (Hope I've done it right)?

Hi Lucy, you are simply amazing . I will cut the chase coz I don’t like to be crying wolf , I would like to mention I could get to learn and speak English fluently after listening to your talk on idioms . I had heard it from the grapevine that use of idioms is not everyone’s cup of tea. I was wrong though. It is really is a piece of cake .Thank you Lucy .
I thought I've been biting off more than I can chew once I realised that I took more tasks and goals and put all my effort and time to them, I was wasting myself by doing this, the moment I understanded what I was doing, I prioritize my goals again, and I'll have to say that I'm doing so much better now.
1)Adding fuel to the fire =making to expand something over the situation 2) piece of cake =very easy 3) I missed the boat=miss an opportunity 4)drop in an ocean =very less work done on huge area 5)this is the extra one ,out of the video Midnight owl =staying late nights
Homework: 1) I wanted them to stop fighting, but when I told them I just added fuel to the fire. 2) People say that I always cut to the chase, I guess it's because I don't fancy loosing time. 3)I usually sit on the fence, I don't want to get involved in all the drama. 4) I wish my parents cut me some slack, they wear me out! 5) It's pointless keeping talking about it your guess is as good as mine, we'll see who's right later on
Drop in the ocean Actions speak louder than words To add fuel to fire The ball is in ur court To bend over backwards Give sm1 time of a day Bite smtg more than u can chew
@Atharv Pathak Hey buddy, don't take my comments seriously, even I'm learning English and even I do the very same thing with my friends... I'm also just kidding... Don't take it otherwise dude 😂😂😂 😅😅😅 The main thing is that this was the best topic which came to my mind... See I'm also looking your comment... So just don't take it otherwise 😅😅😅
Im Japanese native. In Japanese, we have an expression which exactly means the same as ‘actions speak louder than words’, but we have another, which means ‘eyes talks as much as the mouth does’. Do you have a similar saying in English? Or, is it just n expression based on the Japanese culture?
1. He's always been on the fence. He never takes his stand. 2. If you really wanna achieve your goals, You'll have to step up your game. 3. I have been doing this thing for many years now, its just a piece of cake for me. 4. You gotta stop adding fuel to the fire. 5. I shouldn't have taken this task as I feel I have bitten off more than I could chew. 6. You are getting on my nerves these days. Lemme know if it's correct...Hope Lucy sees this and correct me if I got wrong somewhere.
Homework : 1 - I asked my mom to give me some slack, as she was stressing me. 2 - I don't know whether it was Jack or Dave who made that mistake, I'm on the fence. 3 - I took to many optional classes, I bit off more than I could chew ! 4 - Jenny almost broke her phone by the skin of her teeth. (I'm not sure if that one makes sense...) 5 - She gave me a chance and said the ball was in my court.
1-a drop in the ocea: to make sb/sth different 2-actions speak louder than words : it's better to actually do sth rather than just speak about it 3-add fuel to the fire : to make a problem worse 4-the ball is in your court : it's your turn to make the next step or decision 5-to bend over backwards: to do whatever it takes to help someone 6-to bite off more than you can chew: to take on a task that is too big 7-by the skin of one's teeth : to only just succeed at sth by a narrow margin 8-to cry wolf: to call for help when you don't need it 9-to cut sb some slack: to give sb a break 10-to cut to the case: to leave out all the unnecessary details and just get to the point 11-to get one's head around something : to come to understand sth 12-to hear on the grapevine : to hear a rumour or unconfirmed story 13-it takes two to tango : actions or communiucations need more than one person 14- to miss the boat : to miss the opportunity to do something 15- a piece of cake : really easy 16-pull yourself togather : calm down and act normally 17-to sit/ to be on the fence : to stay nautral and not take sides 18-to step up one's game : to start performing better 19-to sell someone out: to snitch on someone or let their secret out 20- your guess is as good as mine : I don't know / I have no idea

Once this👆 saying was common.
When I tried to pay for someone, he(...) told me those lines, to save my money.
I thought I've been biting off more than I can chew once I realised that I took more tasks and goals and put all my effort and time to them, I was wasting myself by doing this, the moment I understanded what I was doing, I prioritize my goals again, and I'll have to say that I'm doing so much better now.
Idiom No. 8 was derived from the tale of "The Boy Who Cried 'Wolf!' " ☺️
Indeed, it is an Aesop's tale
@@antoniapoultsaki9256 Yes, it is, darling. 🙂
Yeah, as said in the video
Antonia Poultsaki No; that’s chinese tale

Homework:
1) I wanted them to stop fighting, but when I told them I just added fuel to the fire.
2) People say that I always cut to the chase, I guess it's because I don't fancy loosing time.
3)I usually sit on the fence, I don't want to get involved in all the drama.

You r a star in teaching,, keep it up!.
I have been finding a channel to learn English. And I got it. I found this amazing channel. Thank you Lucy.
Im Japanese native.
In Japanese, we have an expression which exactly means the same as ‘actions speak louder than words’, but we have another, which means ‘eyes talks as much as the mouth does’. Do you have a similar saying in English? Or, is it just n expression based on the Japanese culture?
In German there is the saying "Ein Blick sagt mehr als tausend Worte" which translates into "One glance says more than thousands of words" :)
In American Englsih: "Her eyes said it all." Very similar to Japanese.
Thanks ...you're the best teacher ever...l usually enjoy watching your videos
Hello there! Have a nice day 😊
You spreading happiness. That just made me happy 😊. Keep it up.
Fabulously Fantastic to sound like A Native Speaker❤️👌Thank U LuCeeeee❤️

Lemme know if it's correct...Hope Lucy sees this and correct me if I got wrong somewhere.
English with Lucy is a new experience.
I love that one: to sell one's out
Lucy's accent reminds me of Amanda's final judgement in BGT! Just lovely!
I tried many times to be on the fence when judging people, however, I am always taking by my feelings.
It is either »I am always taken away by my feelings« or »my feelings are always taking me away«.
Your idioms are very helpful
Where is it “it costs an arm and a leg”? I love that.!!😂
Yup.... costly
You speak so sweetly...these idioms would definitely help me out in improving my language
I had no idea a few of these were used in England. I like "a drop in the ocean" more than the American equivalent of "a drop in the bucket".
Your the best English teacher.
Homework :
1 - I asked my mom to give me some slack, as she was stressing me.
2 - I don't know whether it was Jack or Dave who made that mistake, I'm on the fence.
3 - I took to many optional classes, I bit off more than I could chew !
4 - Jenny almost broke her phone by the skin of her teeth. (I'm not sure if that one makes sense...)
5 - She gave me a chance and said the ball was in my court.
The 4th one doesn't make sense in all honesty...
Awesome, your daily video convicted me. I loved
