JOJ is my favorite phantom but the probleme is the bootleg we can easily found is with Rachel and I really dislike Rachel's Christine than I discover JOJ/Gina and I had a revelation for Gina and only with two video she became my favorite Christine and now I'm dissapoint that the JOJ/Gina was only for two show
I wish there was a video of JOJ with Katie Hall :'( these bootleggers are such jerks. John and Katie were heartbreakingly beautiful together and sad that most poto fans don't know that.
The way JOJ does "Turn your face away from the garish light of day" here is the most stunning thing I've ever heard. The way he changes his voice so rapidly to that harsh, metallic tone and then switched back to his smooth head voice on 'day'. GOD.
The biggest injustice in the history of musical theatre what they did to JOJ after all the years of dedication he put into the show. Katie Hall was also amazing with him. The bootlegger jerks should have recorded John with Katie and released the full video of him w gina.
@@saxongirl2054I’m assuming you mean shafting him for the boy band phantom when the 25th came around, and I COMPLETELY agree. JOJ created such a nuanced Phantom, in character and voice. Absolute injustice.
John's voice and acting is just brilliant. His voice filled with tenderness and intimacy, and yet at the same time mystery. This video honestly made me super comfortable because of how calming and soothing his voice is. And I love how this Christine didn't just stare blankly at Erik, and instead paid attention but still looked like she was being seduced. Overall a brilliant video and song, I'm in love with this.
Pure craftmanship and art. Absolutely mesmerizing. If only the 2004 Hollywood movie had this kind of quality of mastering the craft of acting through song. Now that would make an impact on movie history.
JOJ is the most inspiring and truthful phantom I have ever seen. & one of the nicest people I've ever had the honour to meet. His voice is golden. & he is HOT. JOJ FOR ALL THE AWARDS.
Erin F Right? I feel the same! Christine had her reasons for choosing Raoul, but I think he was a random rich piece of 💩. I'm sorry to say this, but I've met many guys like him. Erik, on the other hand, was a genius who loved her deeply. In spite of his madness, I would have stayed by his side. If he had felt loved, he'd have changed. That's just my opinion, but, seriously, he deserved to feel loved.
Srsly if I was Christine and John Owen Jones is the Phantom, trust me I'll easily sleep in his arms with him singing this beautiful haunting melody to me
JOJ was recovering from an illness in this show and yet he gave a flawless performance. The biggest injustice in theatre's history what they did to him. He should have been the 25th concert phantom. Also with Katie Hall he was even more amazing, it makes me so sad that nobody recorded a decent quality video of JOJ & Katie at her majesty's :'(
This man is effortless when he sings. Chills and Goosebumps! also.. whoever says Butler was a good Phantom needs to get that checked out... Not. even. close.
I really like his impression and dynamics. Like at 0:54. "Turn your face away from the garish light of day. Turn your thoughts away from cold, unfeeling light." He sings one verse, then the next quieter so it's a smoother transition to the higher notes. I just noticed that and now I can't get over how good it sounds.
You guys! I think JOJ is great too, don't get me wrong, but please stop comparing his interpretation of the Phantom to Ramin's and saying whether it's better or worse. Let's appreciate both performances for different reasons :D
BRAVO to that...!!! Being a singer myself blessed by the lord above's gift he gave me. One has to appreciate ALL of the different renditions each of these men brought to the phantom character. Ramin for example not only sung the part beautifully but also acted the part brilliantly. Where as John Owen-Jones had the best ability out of all the phantoms of reaching and sustaining the high notes. After seeing this musical live 3 times in a row now. The very first time with Crawford and Sarah in there respective roles. But i can honestly say that "chemistry wise" Ramin and Sierra were THE BEST in my humble opinion. And rightfully so because they also performed together in Les Miserables.
No comparison, Michael Crawford will always be number one (for obvious reasons) but Ramin/JOJ are both in second place cause they are both utterly amazing 😊
Phantom: touch me, trust me Christine **raises hand to touch da face** Phantom: **slaps hand away** Geez woman whattheheck do you think youre doing you cant just touch me like that who gave you the right-
this has to be the best phantom hands down, he's the only one i know who keeps trying to hide his face during this song and it makes it that much better
Holy smokes!!!I am a very hard to please Michael Crawford fan but that was AMAZING!!In all likelihood in my top 3 of MOTN's. JoJ and GB where amazing...their final lair is also breathtaking. Both are great actors with incredible acting chemistry between them. Bravo!
I've never felt MotN was Ramin's strongest song, but I love both of them, just in different ways. (Hm, that sounded a bit Christine-ish...) John takes me to some higher level of reality, and Ramin seduces me. John just has a much more elegant, lyrical quality to his voice that suits this song perfectly. Don't know if anyone will ever be able to replace his version in my heart, but I loved Ramin in the 25th anniversary show. They are both talented, talented men. Thanks for the upload. :)
I shall always love Michael Crawford as my favorite Phantom due to the eerie yet beautiful quality of his voice. HOWEVER, John Owen-Jones has Michael beat overall with a gorgeous powerful voice coupled with such superb acting so that every gesture and movement just accentuates every word of this song. It is spellbinding.
How dare you! j/k. MC is my fave, but JOJ could likely be my second favorite, at least as far as acting chops. They both act the hell out of this role . Still cant beat MC as far as voice though imo. It's otherworldy.
absolutely agree! JOJ puts all the disperation and the anger of the darkness in this feeling of violent love but he knows how to approach Christine so that his singing is like a mermaid singing to her.. He is an actor in the acting, simply PERFECT. It took me several days to recover after seeing them performing live..
Amazing Voice! John was my fave, but nowI personally prefer Ramin, after watching the 25th anniversary! I adore his passion! plus, Ramin brings so many little details to the role, like his reaction to Christine fainting... his little smiles in music of the night, his sigh as she puts her head on his arm, his reprise...and so much more! Its never mechanical, there is always so much feeling there! Ramin deserved to be cast as Phantom for the 25th anniversary! He was outstanding!
I wish I could fly to West End and watch him perform live. He's so amazing in the role, he has the voice and the acting. Ramin is also a good Phantom but his voice does not fit in the role, he is still amazing at singing. Another Phantom that i like a lot is James Barbour he has an amazing voice and good acting. But no one can beat John performing The Music Of The Night.
Zypherkill I am sure it will happen for you, I have wanted to see Phantom Of The Opera all my life and it took me till my 40th birthday to get to see it. never give up.
Merthurmad I have actually watched it but not with JoJ as the Phantom. I saw it in NYC back in September. James Barbour was also a fantastic Phantom but JoJ is my favorite by far.
The first time I heard him sing this, I was giddy and in tears (and I hate crying). Oh hell, who am I kidding? I still hate crying, and he still makes me cry when he sings this.
He comes back !!!!! Yes !!!! John Owen-Jones returns as The Phantom from Monday 7 September 2015 until Saturday 30 January 2016 !!! After it will be Ben Forster !!!
I would sell my children to see JOJ in the role of the Phantom live anywhere in the world. I have seen Michael on broadway, Kevin Grey, Anthony Crivello, Brett Barrett, and one other I can't remember. I would love to see JOJ and Hugh Panaro play this role live with Sierra again as Christine. Sierra is hands down the best Christine I have ever seen including Sarah.
How right you are.And whoever plays this role this scene always makes me wish that i want a soulmate in my life. This is how i would like to be treated as a woman.Amen to that!Nancy costello
Wow, this guy I saw in London. He made me bawl all the way from the roof top scene when he cried. Phantastic...but ALWebber did say he liked GButler's rockn'roll voice he wanted for Phantom...Michael Crawford was Phantom JOJ is phantastic, but for sexy, Gerry, 'sexy," was his acting directive, Butler is it. that "bbbbbeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee" lasted forever! dayum :)) JOJ is awesome! they should seriously make him valjean in the movie version of the les mis musical
@jenpenphan Yeah! Ramin Karimloo ( Phantom in Love Never Dies) will be playing the phantom! Its in october this year. Not alot of details have been released but Ramin auctioned 2 tickets for it and the chance to meet him there. He did it through twitter and the auction was on Ebay. All the Money raised went to Comic Relief.
@ZodiacBryan Ramin was standby Phantom for a year, then played him for another two years, plus he played the Phantom in the sequel. He may not have played the role as long as JOJ, but he was certainly not new to the role.
I am glad that london keeps those small things that arent in broadway, and others, like for instance erik picking up christine when she faints... and thhe trio in the graveyard....
Thank you for bringing this to us.I never saw these two,oh ..how i wish i had. There will always be those who are nay sayer's.I bet that there were some women present who probably needed to change their knickers after this one.
One of the many things I love about JOJ's MOTN is how he stays near Christine during the "Close your eyes" verse instead of going over to the organ. It's so much more personal and - oh la la - sensual :)
Thank you for letting me know this...i later discovered that the longest serving Phantom is Rob Guest, who appeared in the Australian production's.He played the part for seven year's all together.
@LordMcManus I tottally agree. The chemistry JOJ and Gina Beck have is amazing. But Sofia Escobar does the role justice - she's quite a cute Christine, and Tabitha Webb as her alternate is also cute.
@Belliole Yeah but we do have the 25th anniversary concert to look forward to! and hopefully it will be recorded and released on DVD like they did with Les Mis. Fingers crossed!
One of the big issues critics is how women play the role of Christine. Most concentrate more on the song, and play Christine passively. From what I have read and clips I have seen the 2 best are Sierra and Gina. I give the edge to Sierra due to her stunning preformance in the 25th. If you have a great voice and dynamic personality, you can be a good phantom. But it's Christine that is the more difficult role. There is a reason Sierra was chosen for the 25th over all the other women.
@mattg177 *high five* GRRR! His ""BE!!!" note is so much better than Ramin's...that's my favorite part and Ramin kind of killed it for me. I loved Ramin in Le Miz, but as the Phantom...no. JOJ!!!!! WOOT! I don't care how old he is, he better be in the 50th anniversary cast.
Amen!I love it when JOJ brushes his hand across his tongue and lip to suggest that he wants to seduce christine, but is probably too shy to attempt it.He cares deeply for her,yet feels unworthy of her love. How tragic yet beautiful this story is.Nancy Costello.
JOJ is obviously incredible but can we also appreciate Gina here? Some Christines just zone out during MOTN but she's very dynamic and compelling!
I absolutely agree with you. Gina is an amazing Christine. Her and Katie Hall are my favorite Christines.
She is one of the best actresses to play Christine imo.

JOJ's gotta have the most amazing "beeeeeee" of all time.
He has the most amazing everything.
3:07 Greatest "BE" in history. Period! No one has or ever will perfect this song as John has.
ramin laughing in the corner
The fact that Christine can barely touch him... it makes him more mysterious, imagine yourself in her shoes. I`m in love with this acting...
I love how Gina actually reacts to what the Phantom does and says. She doesn't stand there. The mark of a good actress.
It’s literally such a mood. It’s the same way I react when John Owen Jones hits that note
Dude, praise Gina Beck for this performance! She made Christine respond to the music in a way I have always imagined Christine to respond!
The biggest injustice in the history of musical theatre what they did to JOJ after all the years of dedication he put into the show. Katie Hall was also amazing with him. The bootlegger jerks should have recorded John with Katie and released the full video of him w gina.

@Jonathan Parks For the right person after some therapy.
since Michael Crawford, JOJ is the one. I can feel all the emotions and his gesture like MC explains all his feelings, a master class!

He is the first one to ever really make me see why Christine fell for the charms of the Phantom...
JOJ is my favorite Phantom. I really wish he was in the 25th DVD. :(
