Second time I’ve heard of a puppy being rescued with tetanus, it’s soooooo much work, but when the animal recovers, no amount of money can replace that joy, amazing, you have to be a wonderful person to take on that responsibility, thanks for sharing ❤

Can only imagine how hard this was! I rescued a shepherd/pittie from parvovirus. It was about 10 days and nights of 2-hour feeds and meds. She survived and thrived to 9 y/o, when a neighbor boy poisoned her. She loved and trusted kids. 💔 Best kids’ playmate we could have had for my childcare business.

Vet here. The way her ears were pricked up and stiff, with a vertical wrinkle on her head are one of the main early symptoms of tetanus.

I had a pitbull terrier mix i rescued when the texas hurricane happened back in 2017 found him took him in for a second chance of life little did i know it was the last year of him being alive. He left this world with love and care and alot of attention and treats and toys. I love you domino. He's in a better place with no hate, abuse, pain. I made sure you were loved. I know he would want me to do the right thing and help other dogs. Ive rescued 5 pitbulls. For now RIP Domino my friend. I am now in 8th grade.
I'm sure you made so much difference for Domino. That last year was probably his best year ever and he knew what it felt like to be loved. Keep making a difference. To the world you may just be one person but to these dogs, you are their world. ❤

don't knock vets...my daughter is a vet in a 24-7 emergency clinic. She has worked many nights and holidays and would NEVER suggest putting an animal down if there is any alternative!

Until now I didn't think there was any way back from tetanus - I was under the impression that it was pretty much an automatic death sentence.

That is the strangest medical condition I have ever seen in a dog, but the outcome was wonderful because the woman stuck with the puppy and treated the puppy perfectly.
It used to be called lockjaw in humans because of the muscles locking up…before it became part of the DPT immunizations in babies/children. Most people nowadays have never seen the effects of it. 😢😢
Its called lock jaw and I've seen it in farm animals but not domestic pets....Those vaccines help people to keep them healthy ❤❤❤
This is why it is important to get you and yours vaccines, tetanus affects humans too.
You never know when you could step on a rusty nail or get cut on a dirty metal corner
@@fourleafclover2064 When I go in for my annual wellness checkup my doctor checks my shot record. The last time she indicated it was time for a tetanus shot. It's not something I would think of. Now I will.
We rescue cats and dogs, especially cats and kittens and we immediately take them to the vet for their shots and we begin a shot record for each one. Now I know what to look for in a cat or dog afflicted with tetanus.

My dog kept barking once and I was trying to work from home so I ended up lashing out at her, and she fell down stiff like this. I felt quite bad because days later she was the same, still lying down stiff on the ground. She is no longer with us, but after seeing this video I think it probably was just Tetris and nothing that I did

I thought so, too. You can see a stethoscope and pup is on an IV. Very lucky pup. Tetanus is awful, and frequently lethal. I had a Tetanus shot just last month!

My Mom had a feral cat that she fed and took care of for probably 10 years or so. He only had one eye and looked horrible but she never gave up on him. Last Easter Sunday we were at her house and he came up the steps where we we sitting for our family picture and let all of us pet him which had never happened before. He was so happy to be loved on it made our day. He passed away the next week but I'd like to think he was lucky to live as long as he did as my Mom never gave up on him. I told her when she gets to HEAVEN the most beautiful cat in the world will meet her at the gates and they'll be reunited again.

@@SarahNicole420 She's the most caring and giving person I've ever met. She looked past his imperfections and just loved him when no one else would and I love her for that. I did a Sunday devotional about him after he passed away and I told her she'd be standing in line at the GATES waiting her turn and the most beautiful cat in the world would pass by everyone else as they tried to pet him but he ran straight to her and jumped in her arms because he knew she loved him when no one else had. I pray I can be half as good a person as she is someday but those are some big shoes to fill.

@MortishaPoppins So sorry for the loss of your horse😢. All my 77 years I have been rescuing strays. Vetted, vaccinated, dental, spay/neuter. In all that time, I have never heard of any being having tetanus. Of course I knew about the disease, had vaccinations when the Army moved us overseas. But I never recall ANY vet suggest a tetanus vaccine! Thank goodness for these wonderful people for taking this pup in, loving and rehabbing her. Best of all ... for keeping her as their own baby !!!❤❤❤

I remember this story. She came a long way from where she started. This woman was Godsend for this puppy. She didn't give up on her and kept on working with her. So thank you to the lady and I was and still am proud of her😄☺️💖.

@@theinquisitivecritter So I was able to find out what the puppy had. The puppy had tetanus (muscle stiffness that's a serious infection caused by bacteria that can enter through the body by a wound) *I looked it up😂😅😅*.

I never heard of anyone surviving tetanus. You did an amazing job. Sometimes all you can do is supportive care. I’m so happy she not only pulled through, but also found a hom3 at the same time.
Ivan the donkey from Hanging with Paw Paw channel here on TH-cam survived tetanus about a year and a half ago. He got a tetanus shot when he was castrated at 11 months old but it didn’t work. Ivan was already a miracle baby so everyone was terrified of losing him. But he pulled through, took a few months but after the first few vet visits Paw Paw was able to treat him at home. If anyone wants to see Ivan’s tetanus videos this would be in Paw Paws videos from about December of ‘21 through January of ‘22. Hanging with Paw Paw
It’s survivable with supportive care but apparently horrifyingly painful. I’m not sure I’d want to live with the excruciating pain of every muscle straining (spasms strong enough to break bones) for as long as it takes to recover.
The survival rate for tetanus is actually pretty high. Only 11% of patients are fatal and that's because they're over 60 or their immune system is already compromised

I’m a 49 year old male, not tough but tough enough, kind of a slight chip on my shoulder but videos like this turn me into a little sobbing baby and I can’t stop watching them. I’m curious if anyone knows why they kept her eyes covered for 14 days. There really is so much kindness in the world and I’m SO happy y’all found her and took such good care of her!
If all her muscles were locked, she probably couldn't blink properly.
maybe her pupils were fixed or slower to react to light because of the loss of motor control? And it probably also eased her anxiety, like how people will cover bird cages or put blinders on horses.
Kind of the same as turning the lights and tv off to relax more?
It’s a safety measure to ensure the pups eyes don’t dry out, since all the muscles were locked it can be assumed that the eyelids were not functioning as per usual thus covering up.

Thank you for caring for her. People just don’t realize the time and dedication it takes to care for an animal with a medical condition. Seeing her recovery was probably one of the most gratifying moments.
As a veterinarian and a huge huge animal lover this makes me cry with happiness to see how good and how far some people are willing to go for there pets they really are members of our family:)
