We have a 34 foot diesel trawler docked at Moore’s, on the Mokelumne river for the last 3 years. When wen first cruised up the San Joaquin river towards Stockton, the sight of the Aurora made me make a double take. Since then, any visitor to our boat gets a tour of the Fir, the Mazepeta and, of course, the lovely Aurora. I am so impressed with your optimism and your always positive attitude. One day when I retire, I hope to be able to lend a hand. Meantime, I’ll wave as we slowly motor by on Grace J. Thank you for keeping us updated Chris!
TH-cam has stopped showing me you video so I need to play catch-up. Love your channel... The time I not seen it you done a lot. Looks like a great place to a guy like me
To take on a restoration of this scale and film it for the world to see is a doubly awesome thing, all the time that everyone puts in and your dedication to authenticity is truly admirable and for however many years it takes I will watch avidly.
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I’m sure it’s definitely gonna take some years but will be a fun adventure along the way. I will film the whole thing and hopefully move this project a little faster with the world watching.
I'm so pleased to see how you're approaching this restoration, this ship deserves the very best! That bathroom will be an interesting one to see and I'm sure you'll do it right.
I had a strange moment there when seeing the overhead light fixture in the cabin. It came out of the kitchen in my house, built in '59, and remained there until my wife had me replace it with something that looks nicer back in 2006. Somehow, it made it's way from my garbage can to your ship! I wondered what happened to my stuff that my wife likes to throw away!
The Aurora project is epic , TH-cam is full of people redoing boats but you're the only restoring cruise ship . As an old salt i only wish i lived closer so i could grab a paint brush or hammer and give you a hand . She has good bones and will sail again .
i'm amazed every time i see you working on this ship ,, most people would be overwhelmed seeing the scope of this project but you are looking at it not as one big project but as a series of small projects ,, 1 room at a time ,, i can't wait to see what this cabin turns into when it's finished ,, please keep up the good work
Finally a new video! Will the furniture arrangement be based on deck plans in her original forms? And also how will you keep cabins in a consistent design? You for sure need a lot of the same stuff for having at least a couple of cabins not looking completely different. That closet and the doors in the cabin are very original looking actually. They might even be original Wappen von Hamburg! A interesting thing is that next to the closet on the wall there actually was often a Sofa which could also function as bed. Atleast that was the case on many other ships of that era and even before. Looking forward further videos on the restoration of that cabin and of course other areas :D
I plan on keeping only several schemes for the B-Deck cabins to keep things so they match. The Wappen Von Hamburg didn’t have many Cabins as it was designed as a ferry. It wasn’t until 1960 she was refitted as a cruise ship with 130 cabins. We would like to keep them as close to that look as possible. This can had two single beds. I may place a bit larger of a bed and desk in place instead of two beds. Seems to make more sense now. Bathroom will be tricky but there are still many mid century style fixtures available. I will avoid the cheapo materials and try to step up the quality a bit.
Your absolutely right. Takes just as much time to create the video. If I ever get to a point where we can hire a team to film and edit then this will get much more interesting..
Hello, I've just seen the video where the Aurora is sinking. I was shocked. But the video's I see right now, shows that she is affloat? Can you reply at this question? Thanks a lot. Lots of greetings from the Nerherlands. Groeten, Frans
Thanks for fallowing out crazy channel. We always around and looking for capable hard working volunteers:). Or anyone who just want to stop by and say hi.
And what I took away from this is "holy diver, you still have land fills"!? I hope all garabage is inspected before being dumped. I thought land fills were discontinued in the 90s.
Im more amazed what they throw into that - electrical thingies, metal (why they dont take it to scrapyard?!?), plastics, wood... even here, in post-commie country youre not allowed to throw most of those things into landfills, especially all kind of elecrical devices.
I live in Lodi and I've been following you for a year or two and I would love to see the inside of the boat in person. I've driven past it a couple of times though.
I've been following your channel for some time now as best I could but TH-cam is failing in sending me notifications of new uploads ! Can't wait to see the cabin finished.
Amazing! Could you lower the music a bit though? I’m loving every detail about this restoration but with the music so loud I’m missing a lot of the voiceovers.
Absolutely, Turns out that Audio is the most difficult thing to edit in these videos. The way I hear it while editing doesn’t always sound the same to others. Will work on it.
Seems to me that the #1 priority is going to be finding the source of all water leaks. Any restoration is going to be destroyed if moisture can still get in.
The shower taps no longer meet the plumbing code. They likely do not have a safety mixing valve so that someone does not get scolded if the cold water pressure drops.
if you were to take this ship to a dry dock with the big teams they have at drydocks they would have it working again and looking like new in less than a year they would be working on it 24 7 until its ready to be used for real. but i know that will be big money to get it in a drydock. but just saying having a big team and getting that ship working and looking like new in less than a year i would do what every it takes no matter the cost.
A torch works extremely well for getting rid of large quantities of cobwebs quickly. They are very flammable, but don't burn the surrounding area as long as you are careful.
We had a sponsor for this video. My goal was to integrate the use of this product in day to day work life aboard the ship. I am still working on the skill of advertising for a sponsor without it taking from the quality of the video. When I can figure that skill out then things will start to improve.
Thanks for asking. A few weeks after out last video a producer asked about filing a movie aboard and his production blocked proper access to that project for a while. We will ba back at it in the coming months.
Audio levels are all over the place. I have to keep adjusting the volume so i dont wake up the house. Background music needs to be lower. Sometimes the voice over cant be heard over the music bed.

Yes we are and thanks for sticking around.
I love the use of solar panels tbh. There's easy room for them on the ship's deck and it's a good fit for supplying all the tools with energy.
Totally agree! The power stations are priceless on a giant off grid project.

Saw an old episode if The Love Boat. They had four foot florescent tube fixtures.
Fluorescent tubes were the big thing in the 1980s. Just not very efficient these days.

are you going to add vintage wallpaper to the room?
Good question…. I think I may ask everyone on TH-cam what they would like to see and whatever the popular vote is we make go that route..
Just a question: Since the ship was built in Germany, are the circuits 220v?
They have since been changed to 110v in the early 1970s when it came to the west coast as a cruise ship.
@@AuroraRestorationProject good to know!

I’m sure it’s safe to say that much of this ship likely doesn’t meet modern standards.
Good Bye Aurora, you will be missed.
Did he throw out a heater at 21:57?
That is good stuff.
You should get several dumpsters.
Thought about it. More than likely people around the area would overfill them before I had the chance.. Easiest just ti take loads with the truck.
I cannot imagine undertaking a project so large!

Have the same problem on my boat restoration, it’s not the original boat but all the bodgie repairs. S&S34
Amazing what repairs people with no skills will make just to get by.
On a side note, what happened to the kitchen reno? If you renovate that, you can maybe host more events or helpers?

Knock out a wall or two to make big suites. It is not a cruise ship any more. These tiny rooms are no longer needed.
If you park it beside a typical city, you can end homelessness for as many cabins as it has, while encouraging politicians to care enough.
Wrong attachment on the shop vac.
Keep the toilet. If you’re restoring don’t just throw everything away. Bathrooms were very utilitarian back then
