A boat like that in the UK ,with an engine (even not running) would be going for a country mile more than $600, that's the one thing I miss about living in Florida, cheap, well-made, bulky boats
Thanks bro, I really like the name. I have been wondering what it was going to be. I was planning a video to get input for the new name. We could always do a collaboration on a vid. Maybe when I go pick up the new engine.
Looks great Mike, when I was a kid living in Florida, it was always my dream to buy a fixer upper, one of those bulky big ol 32 foot pacemakers. Never came to fruition, maybe in another life. But I understand your passion for doing TLC on a boat, very satisfying
Mike, I had stopped following you and Zoff after your split on the Loop, but saw a couple of your recent videos and am back aboard now. I hope your health is improving every day. The new boat project is gonna be a fun watch. Good times!
Its so good to see you back doing life and it looks like you're having a blast. Ben a while since i heard you say..."It's gonna be a Good Time!". Cant wait to see the outcome. Keep on keepin" on! 👊
Good looking boat and trailer for $600.00. I would imagine you will go over the engine and outdrive before you restart your great loop trip.I shall look forwards on seeing the videos of you getting it back into shape. I also like that you are keeping the name GOOD TIME and adding a 11 behind it.
$600 that’s awesome! I know you’re great at figuring things out and making it work. We have a 2001 2655 5.7 Mercruiser Bravo 3 and it is an amazing running boat. I like that it’s the biggest thing I can trailer. I did have to put in a new long block, but it was totally worth it. Cheap too. Good luck Mike!
Just getting caught up on your channel. Very happy to see you in better health. But I must say your crazy! This is a huge project to take on. Anyway now I'm going to watch the next video.
Bro..I love your determination and vision. I’m thinking of finding a “hurricane boat”. Something I can fix up and throw a new motor on… a year project! 🤙🏼
Congrats on the boat, this is exactly what I have done on Long Island. I got my boat dirt cheap and worked on it, cleaned it up, etc.. One of my friends was convinced that I had bought another boat when he saw mine at the dock a couple years later, he thought I was pulling his leg because I painted and polished the boat, it looked new. I also have the same outdrive, OMC Cobra. I know a lot about those outdrives so just shoot me a message if you need help with it. I have the damn king cobra, they are super rare now with the 7.5l ford. 350 cobra version still has most parts available. The whole reason these boats are sold cheap when the hull is perfectly good, the damn owners are too dumb to maintain them.. It costs over 200 grand to get a boat like mine brand new, completely insane..
Yes I agree, I will have effectively a new boat when complete. Although I am switching out the 305 for a 350 and converting the outdrive to SEI similar to Mercruiser.
Hek yeah Mike, First and foremost, you are looking good! Thank you Jesus! I am so excited to see what's around the next corner? Good Times II will be there, cant wait!
Good to see you back and working on good times 2.0. I have also just brought a project boat and started a TH-cam channel on the hope to get lots of advice. Good luck on this adventure I can’t wait to see the progress
Hey Mike, looks like the makings of a nice boat there, but it's sure gonna take a whole bunch of work. Looking forward to future updates. Sray safe & well - Dave. 👍👍
I admire your courage lol. You are looking great Mike!!! I like how you found that old boat and can see the hidden potential. Looking forward to following your progress. Cheers!!
There is some thought behind it. Bayliner is a very popular boat. They produced a ton of them. I really like the lines and was looking for the 26 with the hardtop but couldn't find one for the right price. Second is that boat is very searchable in google. When I complete all the project planned, this series will be great for my channel. :}
I had a Bayliner 246 Discovery - roughly the same layout. It had limitations for a solo looper so I sold it. The things that bothered me were solo anchoring - no quick access to the bow, and I couldn’t reach the mid cleat from the helm for solo docking / locks. Good luck. I’ve had three Bayliners.
Awesome and exciting Mike. The layout looks perfect and a great boat for the loop. Can’t wait to see the progress on this. My guess is $500 (probably way to low of a guess) Regards Mark
Hey Mike, new subscriber here! Loving your motivation and desire! You've got a lot of work ahead of you but judging by what your other subs are saying, I think you're the man for the job!! Good luck and looking forward to following along with your progress! CHEERS from Prince Edward Island, Canada! 🍻
Welcome aboard Tom, glad to have you. Yes I have done several project boats but this one probably will be my best. With age comes experience and some mistakes I made in the past I will point out and not do again.
I’m excited to see how this turns out. The only issue I see is that it’s a single engine and both you and Marty had engine troubles during your previous stint on the Great Loop.
You were right! I didn't think there was a 2455 worse than where mine started. lol Like ya said though little by little it will come back to life. There were a few times on mine I thought what a mess I got into but as things come together you get more driven. And when its done you will know it from top to bottom and know its done right. I love the design but the only thing I really wish it had was the wet head. I wish I had tried to install one when I had it torn apart. It looks rough but there is so much potential I'm sure you will turn it into an amazing boat If you have any questions let me know ill be glad to help.
He bro, hope all is well with you. I have an idea about the shower situation, basically adding the hot water and shower at the washdown. I thought a lot about the wet head route but decided it was to much work. Shoot me a email so we can chat a bit and maybe do a live together. mike@michaeljaysteen.com
Hi Mike, I've watched your channel since you started the great loop with good times. I also have a Bayliner its 19 years old, and I love it. If you need any info I've done some videos of my experience and maintenance and repairs that may help you. Great Video Bro! Peace!
Hey bro, shoot me a email and let's chat. Maybe we can get together and collaborate on some vids. I am sure I will have some questions for you. Mike@michaeljaysteen.com
Mike you are right on. I am going to see what it takes to upgrade to the 5.7 as it had the 5.0 now. I am definitely putting on a new SE1 conversion from OMC. It will be great.
Hey Mike! I'm betting you got the boat for free. I'm stoked to see you work on it. I've got a similar one that needs a little TLC, so looking forward to seeing how you recondition her.
Well pretty close to free. $600.00. I am stoked as well. Waiting on the windless to get here later this week. I need it to determine where the new chain locker will go.
Pull the engine and drive, glass and support the transom and mount an outboard bracket with swim platform on it. Get a good used outboard and controls and move on. The engine compartment becomes a huge locker.
Brad I thought a good bit about that but the price of new engine is around 10 to 12 thousand. I wouldn't trust buying a used engine on that long of a trip and that is to much for just the engine. I won't have much more than that in the project and I will have a new rebuilt engine I can trust. I am also putting in a new I/O. Good points tho, I will add these statements in on the next livestream.
Hello from New Zealand, loving the Bayliner rebuild, I've just picked up a Rinker 265, with leaking tank and lots of TLC needed, your DIY is great. Are you still on track for the loop in April?
Welcome aboard, I decided to do so much more than I originally thought that I many not even maike the Northern section of the loop this year. I will however do the section of Florida I didn't do last time. From Ft. Myers, down around the tip back up to Port St. Lucie.
Thanks Will, I am feeling great. The stringers appear to be solid as well as the transom. I checked that pretty close. You are correct on the OMC and that is why I am upgrading to the SEI which is basicly a Mercruiser outdrive.
@@CaptainMike1965 yea, I had one of those Cobra's and it was great when it was adjusted right and I liked how the water pump could be replaced easily. But getting that shifter adjusted correctly was a real pain and they had that damm dog clutch in there.
Mike I did inspect the hull a good bit. That was the most thing I was concerned about. Sometime soon, I will put the plug in and run it down to the lake just to be sure.
Yes Tom they seem to be. The hull is what I paid the most attention to when purchasing it. I walked and sounded the entire boat. The floors in the cabin also seem to be solid.
I did actually think about it but I love the Good Times name and there are other reason. I am going to do a video on naming the boat. Chime in on that video.
Congratulations on the new to you boat, you seem to be having fun and you look happy and that's the bottom line! I look forward as always to the upcoming videos. Do you have a guesstimate on the splash down. To be honest while you were sweeping you sped up the video and I thought something was after you, maybe the creature fro
No way I'd do the Great Loop in this boat. I've had a '87 2450 for over 20 years so I know the boat well. Great weekend boat for 2 people, but just too small for extended stays. No hot water and the cold has hand pumped faucets. Tough to wash your hands when one of them has to pump the water. I replaced the 2 faucets and installed an electric pump just for that reason. You will run out of water pretty quickly as it only has an 11 gallon tank. Same size for the waste tank which fills up even quicker. There's virtually no counter space, the kitchen is very cramped. No generator so creature comforts like A/C are out of the question. Fuel tank is only 55 gallons which limits your range considerably. I'd launch mine in Calumet Harbor (southern tip of Lake Michigan on Illinois side), run around the tip of the lake and back up the east coast to the warm water beach around the Indiana/Michigan border. Hang out for the day at the dunes then cut across to downtown Chicago for the July 3rd firework show. I would have to fuel the boat up @ Burnham Harbor to assure I had a reasonable amount of reserve fuel to make the run back down to Calumet Harbor. The weather on the Great Lakes can change very quickly, and in the summertime storms will build without being forecast. If you get caught up in bad weather and high waves, you'll go thru a LOT of fuel. Another problem that plagued me on that boat (and most boats for that matter) was a decent vacuum. I probably tried close to a dozen 12V vacuums and they were all pretty useless. They don't pick up heavy stuff like sand very well and you spend way too much time trying to use them. Probably the biggest issue was the OMC Cobra outdrive. Mine failed, had a very difficult time finding rebuilt units. Finally found one out of Florida for $4000, installed it, and it's leaked water into the gearbox ever since. Rebuilder would warranty it but required me to ship it back to him at my cost. It was cheaper for me to buy the gaskets/seals and do it myself. Never got around to it, decided to go a different route. Still have the boat, shame, way better condition than this one sitting on a good trailer, and I'd of sold it for $2000. Only real issues with it is the coons got into the cockpit and tore-up the L-lounge seat and the interior cushions are dry-rotting. I fixed all the leaks on it so the interior isn't too bad. The side windows and front hatch are notorious leakers on these boats. After the coons got the lounge I started getting some leaking into the aft cabin area from around the mounting screws so they got sealed. The bow pulpit was rotted so I pulled that off and replaced the bad wood. My solution: I bought a bigger boat! None of that 2 foot-itis, I got 6 foot-itis and bought a 30' Doral Prestancia that solved all my issues (but added a few). Holds just over 130 gallons of fuel, I think the water tank is 34 gallons with an 11 gallon hot water heater, 26 gallon waste tank, twin 4.3L Chevy's driving Mercruiser outdrives, 3.3kW generator, Heat/AC, microwave, and the best feature: a Central Vacuum!!!! It's made by Tiger-Vac which specializes in industrial vacuums. It also has a dedicated front berth so you don't have to break down the table to make up the front berth which was always a PITA. I added a couple of 100w solar panels that help keep the house batteries up. I have 2 refrigerators running all the time. One panel wasn't enough to keep them running and put a bit of charge in the batteries so I added a 2nd which keeps up nicely on sunny days. I boat a bit different, I try to spend 1-2 weeks on the boat for the 3 big summer holidays anchored in a cove. My sister has an 18' SeaRay that we use for playing, fishing, and as a taxi to shuttle visitors back and forth to the ramp. Downside is the maintenance of all the additional systems and winterizing all of it. I'm like you, fully capable of doing all maintenance/repairs myself so it isn't that bad. If I actually had to pay somebody to do it all, it would be cost prohibitive. I still wouldn't want to try the Great Loop in my Prestancia, I think even it's too small for that trip.
Hey Marc, thanks for the response. If you like, lets chat offline about the things you bring up. Many people have some of the same questions or concerns. A lot of the items you bring up have already been addressed on the boat, I just haven't put out the videos. That being said, maybe we can do a video about them. Since I have a lot of new subscribers, it will help bring them up to speed also. Shoot me a email at mike@michaeljaysteen.com and we can get together on a time to chat.
How much did he pay you to haul it off? (Just kidding) I recall the proverbial definition of the term BOAT… Break Out Another Thousand. You got this. Looks good!
Invest in a gallon of E-Vap-O-Rust. That stuff is the BOMB on cleaning up rust, and it’s reusable. I’m following a guy in BC who’s restoring a Monk Cabin Cruiser. He has a wish page on Amazon & followers buy the stuff on the list for him. Odds & ends.
2455 so around 25'. I haven't actually measured it yet but I will. It is a OMC engine and outdrive. The engine is a 5.0 or chevy 305. I am going to see what is involved with stepping up to the 5.7. I also will put on a new outdrive.
Well I hope I am Wrong but I think you have lost your mind we will see that is going to be 100% rebuild other than the chell I hope the stringers and the transition is in good shape and the outside part that prop go on the rest is just time an hard work and a lot of elbow Greece. To me for that big of a trip myself I would say that boat is little too small
Size wise, it could be a litter bigger. The section of the loop from Tampa to Chesapeake I have already completed was done on a 32' Carver. A boat like that is right at the limit of single handling. This size boat is easy to dock and manage a locks as there will be a lot of them on the next leg of the loop. As far as me loosing my mind, you wouldn't be the first person who thought that lol My ex would agree with that! :)
Didn't want to put that much money in one that I would replace the motor and drive in. Also I was looking for the boat with many projects. I enjoy doing these. I have done several boat very similar.
thanks for all involvement, but we have a winner. I paid $600.00 dollars cash!

Yall got it good in Florida, boats a plenty. Someone would ask $3000 or more for that in Texas lol
I hear ya. We do have many.
Congrats on the Bayliner! I have a 2560 Trophy Flybridge that I paid 2K for. I say you paid 800 for that what looks like a 26 foot Cierra.
Very close James, I paid $600.00
Hello from New Zealand, loving the Bayliner rebuild, I've just picked up a Rinker 265, with leaking tank and lots of TLC needed, your DIY is great. Are you still on track for the loop in April?
Welcome aboard, I decided to do so much more than I originally thought that I many not even maike the Northern section of the loop this year. I will however do the section of Florida I didn't do last time. From Ft. Myers, down around the tip back up to Port St. Lucie.
Nice!
Thanks!
i wanna be like you, loved it
Good to see you up and around again for sure!!!
How are the stringers and transum? Also. parts for those OMC's are getting hard to find
Smaller boat is nice...no need to winterize, drop the trailer in the water and tow her home.
absolutely %100. I may some day do another larger boat but I may be over them as well. Something nice about not paying that monthly marina cost :)
Go brother go
Thanks Harold.
You have great vision to buy this boat. How did you know it’s seaworthy?Looking forward to this project.
Mike I did inspect the hull a good bit. That was the most thing I was concerned about. Sometime soon, I will put the plug in and run it down to the lake just to be sure.
Name it "NO OUTLET"😅👍 It's sweet!
Good Times 2.0
800 all in
Close Trevor, $600.00
So what is up with the Bayliner?? We haven't heard much about it for a while. Love your videos!! THanks
I have an update video coming soon.
I have no clue what you paid, but it’s already looking great!👍
Thanks Jules, it is amazing what a good cleaning does. I already have a few things ordered to start the rebuild.
The Boat was FREE !
That would have been nice but it did cost $600.00
Are the floors solid Mike??
Yes Tom they seem to be. The hull is what I paid the most attention to when purchasing it. I walked and sounded the entire boat. The floors in the cabin also seem to be solid.
@@CaptainMike1965 thanks for replying Mike I will keep watching and hoping everything works out perfectly
Who is your engine guy? I have a need for some engine work, thanks Will
They ship rebuilt engines if that is what you need. They are in Ft. Lauderdale. The guys name is Angel 954-966-6440.
Nice to see you Mike. $1000
Thanks Rick, close but I paid $600.00
$1850.00 is what you paid. Looking good!!
Thanks Gary, but I paid $600.00
I think the name of the boat should be “No Outlet”.
That's what my wife said.
That's what she said 😆 🤣 😂
I did actually think about it but I love the Good Times name and there are other reason. I am going to do a video on naming the boat. Chime in on that video.
Congratulations on the new to you boat, you seem to be having fun and you look happy and that's the bottom line! I look forward as always to the upcoming videos. Do you have a guesstimate on the splash down. To be honest while you were sweeping you sped up the video and I thought something was after you, maybe the creature fro
haha, I just wished I could work that fast. That's a good question. I will add that in on the next Live Event.
Glad you have started your project.. looking forward to watching the build.. gonna guess you paid.. $7500 for her
Thanks Clyde but I paid $600.00
Oh, man, you are a glutton for punishment!😂
haha, I enjoy this stuff, crazy I know.
$1200
haha, I hear ya. I paid $600.00 She will be sweet when I get done with her.
How long is it? OMC or VolVo? 525$
2455 so around 25'. I haven't actually measured it yet but I will. It is a OMC engine and outdrive. The engine is a 5.0 or chevy 305. I am going to see what is involved with stepping up to the 5.7. I also will put on a new outdrive.
😅great boat 2600
I paid $600.00. Now I can put in a lot of money to fix her up.
Free
I wish.
Why do 2023 Bayliner boats have a glass bottom?? So they can see the 2022 models!!
I hope not with this one.
@@CaptainMike1965 I'm sure it'll be fine Mike especially if you're doing the work
yikes any boat that the bow is lower than the stern? IDK he paid you 200 to take it?
oh but it is a great project. Wait til the end.
At least a Regal or Sea Ray
Didn't want to put that much money in one that I would replace the motor and drive in. Also I was looking for the boat with many projects. I enjoy doing these. I have done several boat very similar.
Hopefully it floats 🤭🤭
Yes!, hull seems to be in really good shape.
fun project mike, $700.00
Close Triple, I paid $600.00
You think you had problems before
Martin this boat will be almost completely new when I finish. I think I will have less.
$0.00.....its gonna be a GOOD TIME....
wished I got her for that but I did only pay $600.00
2 grand!
$600.00 John.
$435 If you didn't pay more than $2k you got a deal!
I got a deal Kirk, I paid $600.00
