Great comparison clip, Jay! Looking at all those Altra shoes clips on your channel and other great channels I respect, I'm definitely willing to test some Altra shoes in the near future! Thanks for sharing all those info's about those 2 models!
I saw this video 2 years later. I had the Torin 6 and recently bought a pair of Tempo. I think the Torin 6 is not very responsive, it is firm, the toe box is not high, the fit is not ideal. I did not like this model. I also have the Torin 4.5 Plush, these are better, I find the Quantic foam softer, bouncier, and the fit is better. I use them for slow running. On the other hand, the Tempo are great. Light, bouncy, room for my toes, the rocker allows you to keep a good stride, my best Altra to date.
I do hear a lot of runners complain about the price of running shoes. Especially Carbon plated shoes. Here is how I look at it. Shoes are the one main tool we need as a runner. Ya, a vest, shorts, and tops are likely needed but they will last years. Good shoes are key to not getting injured.
I definitely agree, good shoes are worth the price. Years ago, I did a lot of cycling and triathlon. Shoes are still much less expensive than cycling, in my experience.
Great informative review - super specific and helpful. Shoes are imperative to performance. When one of my clients is having foot pain the first thing I ask is - how old are your shoes!! These shoes are similar yet so different!! Awesome comparison!! Thank you!!
Great review Jay. I like the look of the Tempo. I have not tried them but my brother runs in it and likes it a lot. The Torin I tried it but felt like rails on the side of the shoe.
Hi, I’m looking for some zero drop shoes to use for walking around day to day use and also training in the gym. I prefer the look of the tempos but I feel I won’t have as much stability in the shoe compared to the Torin or even escalante. Would you say they provide good stability and long lasting for day to day use?
I personally would prefer the Escalante for walking around and training in the gym. The lower stack height gives them more stability. I don't think you will miss the extra cushioning of the tempos or Torins if you are not running in them a lot. An added benefit is they do cost less. However, they are all pretty good shoes.
I don't have any personal experience with the Paradigm. My understanding is that it has a similar fit, uses the same EgoMax foam. It does have 2mm more of stack height, so it should be even more cushioned and weigh a bit more.
I was able to wear the same size. They are a bit more snug in the forefoot due to the slim fit. However, the length was fine and the upper was stretchy enough that I had no issue.
@@TheOldUltraRunner Thank you. I wear the torins in an 11, but my vanish carbons in an 11 are super snug length wise. So i was wondering if the tempo was the same and i should size up(for length wise purposes). Alright, good to know. Thank you, and thanks for the video.
They still have some softness to them. I think the EgoPro midsole is slightly firmer than EgoMax, but there is so much of it (33 mm stack height) that it still is a very cushioned ride.
Thank you for this review. I have been pondering buying the Tempos for long runs. Have you found that extra stack height to offer a lot more comfort on long runs?
It is a little firmer cushion than the Torins. I find it pretty equally comfortable to the Torins for long runs. It definitely feels a bit quicker with the slightly firmer foam and the rocker geometry. I am a big fan of these shoes, just not the price. Some people might not like the rocker geometry in a zero drop shoe, but I like it!
Thanks, these are the two shoes I am considering. Was great to get them reviewed from a fellow runner.
Thank you for watching! I have been enjoying both shoes. I hope they work for you, if you try a pair.

The Altra's are getting pretty pricey. I have been thinking about trying some Hoka's again or maybe Topo. I enjoy new shoes too much.🤣

Thank you for watching. I also really liked the Torin Plush 4.5.

@@TheOldUltraRunner Have you seen the prices of race bikes? Its like buying a used car. 😆
Yes, it is crazy 🤣
I just ordered torin 6 wide version even before seeing this just now. I need the wide!
I hope they work out well for you!!
Another great Altra shoe comparison, Jay!
Thank you, Michelle!

Thank you for watching, Kirsten! Definitely the right question when people are hurting. A lot of people wear worn out shoes.
Great review Jay. I like the look of the Tempo. I have not tried them but my brother runs in it and likes it a lot. The Torin I tried it but felt like rails on the side of the shoe.
Thanks for watching! I like the Tempo, however, it does have Altra's slim fit so might not work well for everyone.
👍👍22 Another awesome review on the running shoes! 💕💕 Thank you so much for sharing. 😍😍
Thank you for watching, I really appreciate it!
Thank you for sharing video very informative!

I think you need both 😀
I have both 😊

@@TheOldUltraRunner Thanks for replying.
Did you have to go a half size up on the tempo from your normal Torin size?
I was able to wear the same size. They are a bit more snug in the forefoot due to the slim fit. However, the length was fine and the upper was stretchy enough that I had no issue.

Well, no guarantee it will be the same for you. That is how it worked for me🤷. I don't have the Vanish Carbon.
Would you consider the tempos to be an overall firm shoe, or would you say they still have some softness to them?
They still have some softness to them. I think the EgoPro midsole is slightly firmer than EgoMax, but there is so much of it (33 mm stack height) that it still is a very cushioned ride.
