The cube has significance in certain esoteric circles. It’s clear though that she was addressing all her friends that could not resist the darkness and died as well as the struggle to live and love. It’s brave for both of them to make K-pop “grow up” and step into a new level -art.❤
I watched this several times and am deeply moved by the MV. The song is in IU'S known style, bitter sweet slow ballad, but the video takes it to the next level. A whole movie in 5 minutes, very beautiful but also sad. A young couple in love, threatened by an evil alien force who wants to destroy them out of hate, malice, or simply because it can. They never even had a chance to live their love...the only thing they had is to see how their life might have been through the magic camera. The dispair on their faces at the end was visible, their chemistry touchable, and they held each other till end. This alien entity may be a metaphore for all the aches and pains the idols face in their daily life, but having love even with a sad ending is worth so much than never even trying to find it. Bravo IU, bravo Taehyung, thank you for this beautiful gift. ❤❤
My interpretation: The box represents the box idols are put in. The idols have hopes, dreams & their version of love & happiness. V blindness represents turning a blind eye to his inner most desires because he has to fit into the "idol"box. IU is deafness represents "idols" not listening to their hearts. The camcorder records the version of themselves living life from the true version of themselves experiencing love outside the box. Because of the path they have chosen, the "idol" box catches up with them & returns them to the expected version of who they are.
I agree and see that interpretation too. When the video started and I saw aliens I knew the world as we know it was coming or had come to an end. The aliens are us - human life/beings - destroying ourselves. The box is what we are trying to fit everyone and everything into because we are so uncomfortable with difference, variety. We want people, opinions, languages, nationality, skin colour, class, wealth, poverty, our cars, homes, style, food to be just how we want, like or not and God help the poor soul who dances to their own tune. The camera reflects a reality, memory perhaps of a past life, living freely (tongue in cheek here, but you understand...) without someone catching offence, hating, killing, bombs and warfare all over the place, keyboard warriors trending.... to this dystopia we are slowly creating for our selves. The very fabric from which we are supposed to be created from LOVE is slowly eroding. The box of aliens represent us - our hate, greed whatever, large and untamed, striving to contain things/life the way we want it - all squared, no colouring outside the lines. No room for difference. No voice if you sub-group. No visibility if you don't comply.
Their love was represented as we commonly understand it. However, what about love? What if we truly love? Not just the marriage thing, but the full essence of who we are- a human, a race of people. Can love win? I ❤ their statement - provoking. Love wins all.

I also interpreted this was them living life from the perspective of being an idol. I would add that the people in black didnt leave them alone at all and it was intrusive.
You explained so clearly and beautifully what I felt but could not express. Coming so soon after the tragic events with the Parasite actor, this just makes you feel so much for those who live their lives hemmed in by the fear of public opinion and the very real threat of 'cancel culture'.
i think it is a comment on the music industry and the fandoms that come with them. It can be a love/hate relationship sometimes. The artists loves their fans because they made them famous and they get to do what they love. To the outside world their lives look beautiful and perfect. They have everything they want. The camera shows their perfect filtered side. But there is a dark harsh reality behind it that only the artist can see and it follows them where ever they go. It cant be escaped. So they have to succumb to it in order to continue to feel love of their fans and to love themselves-imperfections and all. In the end its the love of their art and themselves that will conquer the bad parts of the industry which will set them free. Love Wins All💜💜💜💜💜
When I could almost physically feel Tae’s character’s rage, I started crying. Then she covered the eye he had sight in as he tried to cover her with his body, my tears became ugly cry.
I felt as if I had watched Titanic, Romeo and Juliet, the old Wuthering Heights movie all at once.
I will say that the pile of clothes made me think of the shoes left after different genoc*des . I think this has so many different meanings. such a beautiful video.

I had to read the translated version of this video and the lyrics--wow.
What if? I am going through my 2nd battle with cancer and I also have epileptic seizures. What if I do not make it to see my youngest graduate high school.
Seeing my husband coming home but still taking care of me...This song and video makes me question..Is his love for me that strong or is he just going along because of "in sickeness and in health"--he feels forced? (he is only 54)
After watching this video I had to ask him--aren't you tired of this life? His answer was, "Would you not do it for me?" That answer did not make me feel assured but left me content--a ride of emotions
It was such a beautiful song and message. To me, it felt as if IU was speaking on behalf of all of the people who wanted real love, whether it be through romance or platonic from someone and had it stripped away from them by an alien means (someone outside their own control destroyed their love or potential relationship). It's like she was speaking on how to protect such a love from this alien force that's taken so many others before her and V (remember the pile of abandoned clothes). The couple shared genuine happiness (as friends or a romantic couple), only for this force to come from nowhere and tries to tear them apart. Both try to protect one another from the force, but in the end they're snatched anyway. At least when it came to IU, she was going out with her loved one and not letting him go down alone. I think this wonderful song speaks volumes outside of just lovers as well. To all who entertain us, they too share love with one another, or someone less well known...yet let the audience find out they're happy and loved...and in comes that destructive force that'll tear them apart. The sad thing is, we've seen this before and we've seen what happens when a good love is broken thanks to a horrible few.

It made me think of two times that I fell for someone but couldn't be together because of life. One was because of race and religion (because of parents), and the time was the military. I chose to stay, he didn't. I am still crying because that was the hardest. Because you always wonder what would have been. IU did her thing again. Love that woman💔❤️🔥❤️🩹
This video is so amazing!!! It got me so hyped to see these two act again. Both so talented and I found myself crying OVER A FIVE MINUTE MUSIC VIDEO!!! It should win every award available for music videos!

I definitely think this was the end of the road for them. They tried to hold on to something precious (they fought for it) and they saw beauty in the world that was in ruins because they had love.
(Also note that IU’s hand/arm start to smoke up while she tries to cover V’s eye. Like they were being incinerated)
In the end, yes they were liberated from their suffering. There is liberation in death. We meet our Creator and we are embraced in love. Most people on earth believe that there is life after death. Some of us believe that we get a chance to be born again, and it will be our choice whether we start over or not. But why this music video tugs at our hearts is because we saw their love, happiness, and devotion to each other no matter how much they suffered. We went through a rollercoaster of emotions in 5 mins. IU and V did a fantastic job here.
When we find true love, that in of itself is a piece of heaven. But some of us are not given a long time on earth to cherish that. Some of us don’t get to grow old with our loved ones. Sometimes, we meet a tragic end. (My take on this)

My interpretation. Beautiful story, it was not a just a beautiful song. IU and V are imperfect people according to the world. But through another lens, they see each other as perfect. In the real world, they may not have much, but they love each other and commit to each other by getting married. But the world intrudes on them and gets rid of their love, because their love should not be. It gets rid of them. We see that the world has done that before to others love that was deemed not worthy. Their stories is like other love that has come before theirs, disintegrated because they were perceived as imperfect by the world. The real world is broken.
The part that got to me was how she covered V's good eye so he couldn't see the end. The last act of love...
You literally made me cry a little harder than the music video 😅 There can be a kind of desperate feeling when you lose control over a situation, and I feel this MV did really well on capturing that emotion and projecting it onto the audience.
They bothe are fenomenal young artists, it was a masterpiece, IU voice is so tuching, and V acting skills are amazing, congrats bothe of them, ❤

I appreciate your interpretation of the song. For me, it did evoke emotion as well, in the sense of bad things happen, but you can still find simple joys in the midst. Also, when V tries to fight the cube and IU covers his eye at the end, it showed to me what sacrificial commitment these 2 had for each other in the storyline, which is also very moving. I also like your thoughts about the wake-up call idea.
I thought about the titanic too Sean when I watched it. They did a amazing job with this IU and her beautiful voice and V just blowed my mind with his acting skills. I also read where in the video IU part she was deaf so that's why you see her using her hands to talk. I think they both deserve a award for this performance ❤

I thought the video and song were top notch! You can never go wrong with IU and V. My interpretation is, what goes wrong with so many marriages today. The box is what follows us where ever we go because of bad influences, selfishness, self importance, infatuation, ambition, never being taught what is really important in life, or a whole host of things that derail us from our real heart’s desire. It throws us off what we really want, and we loose sight of what is really important. TRUE love really does win all if it’s there to begin with. It has to be above all that life throws at us or else you wedding garments end up on the pile of discarded marriages! It’s so prevalent in today’s society and culture! Living for self instead of helping others is the decline of our society!

I totally agree that it was really thought provoking and emotional. I am not sure that I have finished processing my thoughts around it yet. The time element of the 90s making missteps societally makes total sense. It also does from a media / consumption perspective with them being "consumed" at the end. I have to say I wasn't expecting this output from them, but the entire production was great

I saw Titanic in theaters too, and I got the same feelings. Brilliant acting from both IU and Tae. Such a gorgeous production. I would love to see a part two of the MV, movie, tv series based off this. The MV was bittersweet, but I need a happy ending.

The first time I saw it I had to cry..I still have to look up the lyrics🤦🏽♀️🤣 but have to admit..I felt it with my soul..they did a awesome job together..and yes I am 45 so went to watch the Titanic on the big screen!😜🤣🤣💜
It’s a very emotional MV. From my point of view it’s about 2 soulmates that have to face the sad reality and deal with all the problems, but the love they feel for each other make them see the best things in each other, made them see the world as a better place, but eventually they will have to face the sad reality, even if they didn’t give up on each other, even if tried their best to protect their love. And maybe in next life will be again together having a much better life.
I saw this MV at least around 72 times now since it's release so it does tell how addicted I am to this and each and every time I have cried coz it hits me differently each and every time. Mostly I saw it for V for he is my bias and I miss him so much but also for how the story is told for viewers to view and perceive it in their own way. For me I came out with several versions but my most favorite one is where I see Tae being one eye blind and IU being deaf are running from the backlash of society which is depicted as the cube and they both having an issue are the only ones who understand each other and love each other with the so called flaws as seen by society. Through the cam recorder they see themselves as people who are absolutely fine and enjoying themselves until the reality hits that they are not in the cam recorder but in a society that is out to get them. Running from the society they find themselves stuck where they can't run no more and so they are ready to fight with Tae taking the rod to fight for his partner but in the process they get the society more angered as the cube turns from blue to red and takes them and crushes their soul like many others so that they disappear from the society but since the title says Love wins All the positive side is that they go together for as we all know that our body is mortal but our soul is immortal so at the end the 2 win against society for their souls are still united but in a different time realm. However, many of the cubes according to me depicts the society being skeptical for different things in life that is one cube for one "No-No" by the stuck up society thus draining it out as a whole of all the souls and just leaving behind a pile of emotionless and non- empathic entities that are dumped one over the other just as how the society wants it to be.

I was focused on the fact that IU was deaf, wore a lip ring & V was blind in one eye. The story could have been told without these images so I feel this is important. They are different than the all other people who were dressed in black.The people dressed in black seemed to be in the majority in the room. The box perhaps represents the box that society puts us in. Whether the box is based on ageism, sexism, special needs, sexual preferences , career choices , etc. anything that’s out of the norm gets relegated to the box no matter how hard they try to fight it. Either they conform or die fighting. Only love and understanding can save humanity represented by this loving couple. I'm sure there are many ways to interpret this music video….its really a movie. Mine is just my thoughts. The ending was excruciating to watch,. It did remind me of the movie “Titanic” and the K drama (the name escapes me) featuring an American soldier of Korean descent who is sent to Korea during the conflict with Japan & China. That ending on the train is another I have yet to get over. Thanks for your analysis. This is a moving video with I U's beautiful voice and amazing acting . I hope it does get the attention it deserves. V, you are a helluva actor too. Keep that door open once you are out of the military if you want.💜🇺🇸

Thank you, you had an interesting take on how the characters in essence were in the beginning, fighting against escapism, how they can represent what the youth beginning from the Millennials to Gen Z is feeling right now. I absolutely got your Titanic reference and felt your grief for Rose not sharing that huge raft with Leo and eventually maybe surviving, I was one of those lamenting that tragedy whilst in University. I still feel the fear I personally felt as I graduated from school with the impending inevitability of adulthood, of the certain future burdens of the world not just on me but the generations after. Why I feel our generation started being obsessed with entertainment and escapism, movies, series, books, music.. this is the great age of fiction.

I think in our life we all have "Cubes" (metaphors) running after us but unfortunately not everyone has true love in their life as shown in the movie.
Love wins everything, that is the truth for them ! I see this story as an invitation to join them. What could be more wonderful in life than to be accompanied by the being we love until the end ? And that is one of the reasons I cried so much and my heart was racing watching this movie because I just failed and know I’m responsible for this failure. It is my greatest regret to be separated from the person I love 💜

I didn't know what to expect the first time and was kinda in shock but had an immediate impact, and the second time got me in the feels and was crying. Anyway, when they were using the camera, I thought they were having flashbacks to what was in the past (like they were already married), but thats just me I guess because their current looks were not matching (lip ring, eye color, etc). The video is so well done! I love it when they make mini movies in mvs. Someone put V in a kdrama asap! We all want to see it! 💜

To me it was a love that could never be. At least that was my take on it
as you could see in the video, they were being killed by the cube. IU and V were starting to vaporize. They became absolute vapor probably and then their clothes fell off because they were just no longer even there anymore.
The ominous floating cube is such a great blank signifier...it can represent anything, literally the 'block'ing character here.
IU's lover - V- is her Universe, but the lovers are not accepted, like many other humans they are fleeing. Covered with injuries from fighting the ______A.I. government, they are trying to live their own Love/Life which is a "forbidden or impossible love". The A.I. Cube represents the most modern form of societal punisher, like the Martians ( War of the Worlds ray) de-atomizing humans. It killed them, not just their societally unacceptable love, taking their very lives. This is a tragic scenario of Love that fought until the end. { Maybe Love continues in the Spiritual world. } In the coming Dystopic**** new world A.I. and authoritarian/totalitarian governments will try to destroy that which makes us human - especially Love. Great mini-movie. Wonderful lyrics... beautifully sung, great idea brought to life here, and I want to see them in a film together someday.

I watched the MV before I watched your review as suggested. I got the vibe of the devastating loss of the Titanic, for which I saw in the movie theater many years ago. It made me cry. I could never fully watch Titanic in its entirety again, ever. The loss of what might have been and all the innocent lives lost, the stories never to be told, was very painful for me, especially as it was based on the real sinking of the ship. It made me tear up then and again watching this MV. It also brought to mind a novel, where a bride never recovered when her husband to be never showed up. She grew old in her wedding dress, the wedding decorations, cake, etc. looked just like the MV. I don’t remember the book name, darn. This MV was very impactful and thought provoking. I’ll need to watch it again to actually listen to the song. IU and V did an awesome job with this MV.
Edit: I just had to research the wedding dress. It was an old novel created by Charles Dickens called Miss Harishams. That’s what the MV wedding scene reminded me of. Read it as a child.

I know Love wins all is a IU video..but BTS spring day came to mind wth the pile of clothes...does it represent the past? the many layers we discard etc? I think Im still not sure what the clothes mean..plus strangely enough BTS fake love lyric came to mind..I wish Love was perfect as Love itself, I wish all my weaknesses could be hidden, I grew a flower that bloomed in a dream that can't come true. also from Fake Love the clip where Jungkookie picks up sand and it falls through his fingers (sands of time?) ( re .time past being seen through the video recorder lens) then enters a square door ( remind me of the cube ending) through the waterfall. So basically Im still confused ..plus it can all mean what you want it to ..Art is subective after all. (or so I tell myself to excuse my ignorance|)😆 V is to die for in this IU video..he will be a dangerous actor one day!

Thanks for your interpretation. It feels like being together but facing the inevitable, and in the end only their love living and dying together is all we can do. The evil infrared alien cube evaporated them, but left behind the clothes? It is like life, though we come and then things happen, bigger, badder, beyond our comprehension, and we die. Do true lovers dying together still die alone? The song emotes sadness and the end of things as you know it even if you are with the one you love. It reminds me of another song in tone, but not content. I wondered if somehow that symbolized that despite everything they faced...their love survived the way the song says.....it just doesn't look the way everyone expects it to anymore...and it's hidden in a place where no one but them could find it. In their entertainment world, love has to hidden.❤ Amazing video. And I had another idea. In the video they r running from the cube. They r inside a building and they hide in what looks like a display stand. The cube is overhead and they both look up. If one of them were deaf then IU would look up alone first, and then V would see the direction of her gaze, and then look up, because he's deaf. But what if neither IU or V is deaf? Then IU would be mute. She can hear everything but cannot ever speak or defend herself to other people. Only V has taken the time to understand her heart...❤

What I get is that we cannot escape our Destiny, but we try to ignore it and for example pretend that Death happens to others, not ourselves. However, love is eternal, beyond death and destruction. And life matters because love is, not just romantic love.
But I also feel an anti war message. To me the cubes represent drone warfare, nuclear weapons. For no good reason hunanity is destructive. But humanity is also good, because we love and care. And towards the end we are united. So there's also hope there.
They are creating make believe memories, knowing their time is running out because they are doomed to die. Very sad video.
It really looked like they were being incinerated as you can see it on IU arm and hand.
Which gave me the impression this was about the destruction of humanity.
But I do love your take on this and I hope they will release it in movie theatres as it may qualify for "short film" category in 2025 Oscars.

The pile of clothes is an obvious reference of the pyramid of the artist Christian Boltanski, inside the Grand Palais, Paris
And to me the cubes represent the enemy judgement of squared minded people that can kill people who just want to live in peace.
And nope the end is dramatic as it is obvious that they wanted to live 😂

What I've seen is the after effects of a nuke War. Those piles of clothes belongs to those who were in the hall/ a restaurant dinning before they all disappear. 'Love Win's all.. is to remind every human Life is precious.infact I've seen a VC which is the exact situation in IU/V..VC.
