I think this is a great integrated way of motivating a youngster to get moving and introducing them to a healthier lifestyle that an adult can interact with. The future implications for Garmin devices is an exciting prospect. Great video, as usual!
I am pretty sure Garmin created its own messaging system to get around Apple locking down messaging to the Apple Watch on iOS. I do really like the direction Garmin is heading ... 2022 had all of the pieces spread across different devices that added together would make quite the powerful all-around watch. $10+ a month isn't cheap, especially compared to the kind of functionality you get with a smartwatch from Samsung or Apple with LTE for that, but not having to deal with all of the strings attached of having a traditional carrier might actually be worth it from a simplicity and reliability perspective.
I agree about the subscription cost. There's something liberating by simply buying a month-to-month subscription from Garmin directly rather than getting tricked into some weird contract with my phone provider. I do wish the price was $5/month. But if they add more features the $10 might be worth it.
Just got one for my kid (7year). Looks good for a first impression. Me and my wife both have garmin which makes life easy. Think an AW would be too distracting for our kid, and for now the bounce is great. Wish the battery was better though. Gen2 will probably be a killer!
It would be very cool if it sync'd with a HRM. This would be a usable device for a senior needing minimal connectivity for safety & messaging to family members as well as fitness tracker. I think DC Rainmaker's video mentioned the file could be exported, but I may be wrong.
Great video, and some really good features. Totally agree that some of those features would be good on the more expensive watches in the range. I do wonder though who this watch is for ... whilst the child may be wearing it, the features are mostly for the parents to make use of from a safety and wellness point of view.
Hi. Love your channel. Have you heard about the Qualcomm and Garmin partnership? It's regarding satélite comms and might be lined up to your comments on future watch specs ( those I totally agree). Great job. Keep up. Cheers from Buenos Aires, Argentina
In your opinion, could this watch prolong the need for a kid to "need" a cell phone if they are a latch key kid? I am considering this to give my kiddo freedom to walk to and from school instead of needing to be bussed to an offsite before/after program, but we don't have a landline for kid to check in when getting home or needing something.... Thanks for the video!
I think it would, in fact we just bought one last week for my 10 year old specifically for the reasons you mentioned, so he can walk home from school alone or go to a friends house etc... but we can still be in touch with him, but without having a phone
Hi I am considering getting a watch like this for my kid, i saw on google review, someone complained about sending only 20 messages a day to other family members who have Garmin devices. Here are my questions 1. Do I have to own a Garmin device in order to receive messages from my kids 2. It can be any Garmin device? Or I can just use an Android phone that has the Garmin Jr app 3. 20 messages might not be enough for a day, can we type our own message? 4. Does it make phone calls too, or only voice messages
1. No you simply need to install the Garmin Junior app on your phone. This is where you can send/receive messages from your kids. 2. Garmin to Garmin communication only works between Garmin bounce devices. No other Garmin's support this yet. 3. I haven't heard of this 20 message limit? In fact we use messaging daily and haven't run into this issue. 4. No phone calls, it sends voice memo's. I thought this might be a drawback but it's actually more functional this way. My kid's old LG Gizmo did phone calls but they were always drawn out, hard to understand, and distracting. Voice memo's are more to the point.
Hi! I know this isn't maybe the right video but I've a question. I'm about to buy my first sportwatch, I do 3 times a week a weight training and 3 times a week a running training, I'm interested mainly in the Garmin Coach, sleep monitoring and healt status features. I was looking for a Venu 2 Plus (I love the display and decine) and a FR255/955. I know that the FR955 has a lot of more features for tracking training, but I'm not an advanced athlete, so is the Venu 2 a good idea? Or I have to buy a FR? I'm not expert on this argument, thanks
My kids have had the watches for two months and they work great. I thought I read that if their friends also had a bounce they could message them too. Do you know how to set this up?
"And no, it doesn't actually bounce." 😂 That came unexpected! More of this kind of humor in the future please. 😁 Interesting watch. Maybe I will get one some day for my child.
There's still a huge gap in terms of Garmin products when it comes to kids 11-15 especially in EU, where you have to be 16 to create a Garmin Connect account and you have to lie if you want teenagers to use for example Venu series. Bounce isn't really good enough for teenagers who want more stylish stuff. Apple enables the Watch to be used even by smaller kids.
Yeah there's certainly some opportunity in the middle there for "tweens" the Bounce is more suitable for 6-12 year olds I'd say. After that something more "grown up" would probably be better. Honestly, the Apple Watch SE makes a compelling option at that point.
It seems really fun if you can get your kids on board. My son typically just marks his chores done even when they’re not lol. It takes some setup and I still haven’t found a “point system” for incentive.
Does this watch ( Garmin bounce) have "Silent/vibration" alarms/reminders feature? I need one for my kid to be reminded of some of his chores well in advance when he is in class, his current watch has audible alarm which class teacher thinks as a nuisance to entire class 😂
Well, this is a good review yet we still need to consider the age of the child. Mine, I got from Easyfone KW2 and the features are very easy for my kid. It's friendly for children design coz it has no game. Luckily, it can save a plan than using too much expensive by its monthly plan. Anyway, I'm just sharing mine.
4 Might be a little young since most of the interaction requires the ability to read but you might be able to train them which icons to hit to send a voice memo.
Strange omission that there’s no calling, just the voice messages. To me, that seems like a deal breaker. Any thoughts on why Garmin did it that way? Could it be coming in a future update?
I think it was intentionally left out to keep the device simple to use for kids. Honestly, it's not something that bothers me. My kids used to have LG Gizmo watches with a call function that we rarely used. The voice memo or text was always easier to deal with. But yes, that would be nice to see down the road or when this tech matures.
149 is not cheap and a 120 yearly subscription is a steal. Garmin makes very overpriced stuff (and over that they charges you for everything like maps!, etc.).
Compared to other devices in this category $149 isn't overly expensive. We used to use an LG Gizmo Gadget that was in the same ballpark and had much worse build quality (not waterproof).
Would be good to have the 5g functionality of you can turn the radio off - battery life would always get battered with it if not so you'd be like the apple ultra in terms of days not weeks
My kid has a bounce and I've learned to just have her put the watch in airplane mode to save battery. Lasts a couple more days. Once she leaves the house, airplane mode off. Manually done in the settings.
Comming from Denmark I would advice AGAINST buying this Garmin Bounce. The battery life, recharge time and a broken screeen 3 days later that cost the same as the watch to fix is a no-go for us (unfortunatly we already bought two).
Thanks for sharing. My 10 year old has been wearing one every day since this video and it’s still working great! Sorry to hear you haven’t had the same luck.
This is a rather old video but if you do see my comment could you please let me know whether it is possible to send back a voice or a text message to the watch itself? Thank you!
this watch has more features than 900$ garmin watch, idk what dafuq garmin smoking but they keep gate keeping software from each watch, I got garmin watch recently and I think I will never buy another garmin watch(cause of shity software) I will wait till android wear gets 4+ days battery on watch that doesn't cost twice as my phone
There's some benefits to the Bounce over an apple watch. First, if the parents are Garmin users the Bounce ties into the ecosystem pretty nicely with shared step challenges and stuff. Second, the subscription does not have to be tied to a cell phone provider like apple watch's require. And third, this Garmin Bounce is a super simple device which is easy to use for kids. I'm afraid an apple watch on my 10 year olds wrist would present a constant distraction since it has so many features. But yeah, for older kids? Apple watch might be the better way to go.

You can send bounce to bounce messages by adding them all to the same "family" in the app.
Any idea if there are message reminders - if you send a message to your kiddo and they dont respond? Does it continue to beep, vibrate, etc?
I don’t think it does oddly. Though the watch face has a visual reminder if there’s unread messages

Garmin should always use transflective screens and not amoled.
In a watch like this a full color bright display makes more sense. This isn't AMOLED it's LCD.
