  • Meet the new 2019 Canyon Strive, the German brand’s first long travel 29er. Although it may be Canyon’s first long-legged big wheeler, Canyon is no stranger to making world class enduro bikes.

      Hows it on flatter terain and climbing situations? Isn’t it to heavy for climbing with almost 15kg? Really doubting between this and a spectral... PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!

    I know it’s been a while... what are your thoughts on the capabilities of this bike at a bike park? Sky park at Santa’s village or snow summit? Or? Also, I believe the 19 and 2020 are the same frame geo correct?

    @The Loam Wolf I'm thinking of ordering 2019 Strive. How did you find sizing? What size did you ride? I have 2018 Strive M but thinking of going 2019 L.

    How would you compare this to a Spectral? It seems like with a 135mm in the back it should technically, at least on paper, pedal better than the Spectral Trail bike. Would you say that it does? Or would you say that it's still a step above true Trail bikes and more into Enduro. Seems like going down to a 160/150 setup puts it more into a Trail bike territory now than a dedicated Enduro. I've recently really been looking into my first full suspension bike and was seriously considering the Spectral or the Diamondback Release 4C or 5C because all of the reviews talk about how easy to pedal the 5C is, and also how much fun it is to ride. But it seems like the new Strive could take the place of a Trail bike, especially offering 29er wheels.

      The Spectral is much more agile than the Strive (2018 aswell as 2019). The Strive is "faster" (and probably descents better, can't compare it though) while the Spectral is engineered to "have fun" and be agile. For Beginners, the Spectral is probably better, because it might be easier to handle than the Strive.

      Flurin I just got my new Spectral a few weeks ago and I’m stoked.The spectral is very nice on the climbs,and it’s insane on the dh parts. I would recommend a spectral,also because you are an beginner.But the strive is also incredible.
      I hope my opninion about the spectral helped you doing your decision.
      I would like to hear from you and which bike you bought.
      Greetings from Koblenz

      Hey @@JK-to7yl I won't be buying a bike in the next month or two, but I've been starting all of my research. Canyon has really been confusing how they talk about the Torque and the Strive as these 'do it all' bikes and how well they climb and pedal, but none of the reviews ever compare them to a trail bike. So the reviews make it sound like the Strive and Torque are just as nimble and easy to pedal as a Spectral, so it's super confusing. But that being said, so far I'm going to be looking at a Spectral or a Diamondback Release once I get around to buying something.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Strive is definitely more of a race bike, while the Spectral is more in the play category. That doesn't mean you couldn't race a Spectral or play on a Strive, but the geo and wheel size do separate the two.
      I'd also put the Strive in a different, more race oriented category than the Diamondback Release 5c as well. All three are very solid bikes though. It just depends on your terrain and riding style.

    • @JK-to7yl
      @JK-to7yl 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hardcaslte Okay,that’s fine, but as I know the Torque and Strive are more downhill orientated, but the spectral is,as said before, more playful und an allrounder.

    Did you find the bike agile? And also did you notice the heavy weight of the bike on the climbs??

    I've Canyon is a great company, never ridden their bikes though. I'm a bit skeptical about their "shape-shifter" technology. I wonder how reliable it will be over time or if there are any current issues with it?

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We'll find out as we continue our long term testing! It's actually a very simple system, and is under $100 to replace the gas shock.

      @@TheLoamWolf Ive owned the previous model for the last three years , its now done over 5000km and not a single issue with the Shapeshifter . The very first model had some issues with a o-ring allowing air to leak resulting it staying in what ever position it was in at that time of the leak.
      BUT that was fixed very early on and has never been an issue since.
      As the new shapeshifter "shock" is made by fox I would say that they took the previous Canyon shock and only improved it.
      Cant see it being an issue at all.
      My only negative is the lever position. Ive had a dropper lever go through my leg needing 7 stitches so having it and the dropper combined is going to get someone in a crash

      I've heard that canyon has acknowledged the reliability issues of the last shape-shifter and that they have improved reliability this time around!

    Look like cheap plastic.
    I dont want it glossy. I do want it scratch proof. Matte is a plus. Not matte plastic tho.
