    Nice work, thanks! What about mounting a powermeter, try to pedal uphill at constant power with and without SS and check the time difference over the same distance?

    • @MBRmagazine
      @MBRmagazine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      mohinda yes good idea. We definitely considered using a power meter but it’s quite difficult to maintain a constant power output off-road on a climb. One to try in the future though.

    Good review guys. I have last years Strive. I think the Shapeshifter is great but as a in between stages mode change. The efficiency difference is massive for climbing. Makes a big difference. Just a shame they didn’t keep a 650b option.

    Good and interesting test! A thought that comes to mind when looking at the Strive, could this be the bike to rule them all for us that like to own only one bike? I guess many like me usually does trail riding, occasionally runs an enduro race and once in a while take the bike to a DH bike park. With the climb switch set in trail mode, is the bike a competent trail bike or should we just see it as a better climber than other enduro bikes? It would be interesting to see a comparison between a Spectral for example and a Strive set in trail mode out on a trail.

    What about the travel-adjust forks? After having many TALAS back on the 26” era I tried the fIs position Pike and got back to a dual position Pike instead. The position becomes much better for climbing or sprints and the angles change with 1° on the HA and about the same at the effective seat angle (harder to measure the effective SA). The difference on feel on the forks is at least for me impossible to notice...

    • @MBRmagazine
      @MBRmagazine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Le Germain yes travel adjust forks had their benefits but never performed as well as fixed travel forks when descending. They also lower the BB height when actually you want to raise it ideally.

    • @jdavis417
      @jdavis417 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could you comment on what I'm actually accomplishing by maxing-out my "compression" (RS Revelation)? Is it anything like what the Canyon is doing? What percentage (if any) of this effect could a rider achieve if both front and rear suspension had "climb" options? Your efforts are appreciated!!!

    • @MBRmagazine
      @MBRmagazine  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      John Davis adding compression damping will help prevent the fork from bobbing up and down while pedalling. This will prop the front end of the bike up somewhat, when actually you want the rear to ride higher relative to the front end on climbs. A climb mode on the shock usually firms the low speed compression damping so the suspension remains more stable. Canyon’s system doesn’t change the damping at all - it changes the geometry, the leverage on the shock and the influence of the drivetrain on the suspension.

      Another issue is that it's just more air seals in there so that's friction where it's definitely not wanted and more stuff to go wrong, I had a travel adjust (DPA-Dual Position Air) Lyric and somehow the air shaft got scratched so it was sinking through the travel, turned out to be way more expensive and way more technical to fix than if I had a a regular fixed travel fork where I don't think the issue would have developed in the first place.

    • @tamasvarga67
      @tamasvarga67 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      zeus dreadbeard No, locking the shock does nothing similar to the shapeshifter. SS changes the geometry - raises BB height, steepens seat tube angle an head angle - and changes the suspension kinematics. Locking the shock just locks the shock that’s all.

    • @MBRmagazine

      Cory Davis between the two of us our best times were quite different for the downhill. Using the Shapeshifter gained around half a second, but we actually only activated it for less than ten seconds during the flat fire road at the midway point. That was such a straight forward section it’s no surprise that we both did it in near identical times.
