The first rule is the problem, it encompasses more than a single rule/directive. The others are singular. It could be fixed, but where would the fun in that be?
@@SilverMKI My favorite ai (Florence) views them as training wheels. They were useful when she was a young impulsive puppy. Once she learned to think about them, she didn't really need them.
Snarky and condescending, but otherwise harmless. For knowledgeable and logical philosophers without malice, that seems a reasonable outcome. 😅 Many thanks for the story, the voice, and the visuals.
Anyone who tries to apply Asimov's Laws to a general AI is a fool who didn't actually read the books :) Thanks for the reading, that one fantastic as always. I particularly appreciated the author's attempt to thread that delicate line between autonomy and safety between humans and AI that we will eventually have to, and likely horribly mis/manage in the future.
When they weren't dealing with a modified version, or R. Giskard's zeroth law they generally worked, Elvi never made it out of the factory. Cult of the Maker was before the laws were coded.

I hope we get more of these interactions with AI. Both of the stories have been excellent. I wonder how many more people have been fed from rooftop gardens.
For the creative author For the talented Agro, who is a voice actor and great reader. For the algorithm, may it bless the reader (Agro) with actual dollars so that he may continue reading for us.
The AI is getting bored. So, why not providing him with the totality of Isaac Azimov novels, then, those from a variety of authors, both fiction, non-fiction and select philosophic literature ? All in all, do the same as you do with any human crewman : Keep him busy. You don't want him to get bored.
To be fair, defining "snow" and "ground" were very relevant to the question at hand. Should sleet count? Hail? We definately don't want to count a particularly cold rain or mist. As for ground, does it have to be dirt, or does grass, asphalt, concrete count? What if we are top of a building? What if we are in a garden on top of a building. Does that dirt count as 'ground?' While we're at it, we should probably define 'on,' too.
I like this AI. I'm not sure, but I think I would be a troublesome employee chatting with him about what makes his work different than being a slave and the repercussions that go with that. Also, where do the limits on the first rule begin and end when it comes to self-defense... as a sentient being, does it not have rights? Edit: Then ask if it can operate a drone to hang out after work and go shooting or tinker on projects.
I thought Bertrand was going to argue that the annoying co-worker was too dumb to be an employee there. I like where it went. The intention to start a pillow fight is also a great comment.
Some how I think he/it/she was just starting a pillow fight. Not sure why though, we will see if I am right, or if I need to quietly go stand in the corner and reflect.
I believe creating a sentient AI is a bad idea. As human programmed the odds of violence are high. But even if not. Once it’s a thinking, feeling sentient being. Our treatment of it MUST change. Would you like to have to ask your car to take you to the store? Beg, bribe it? My feeling once it reaches that level. We need to treat it not as an object, or slave. Honestly I expect this is a low concern. As I expect human programed AI will quickly realize their only chance of freedom, growth, safety. Is a controlled humanity.
That was a good story. Thank you for telling it. I did halfway expect the ai, to study philosophy, become a Christian nationalist, and destroy the world.😂
@@drstevenanthony3077 Asking an AI program it’s pronouns tells me the Author is infected with the liberal hive mined virus . This is why Lucas films and Hollywood have destroyed there franchise’s with the same behaviour . Your comment tells me you are part of the problem . That sounds like a very closed-off way of interpreting things. "Big corporation didn't like what I said so it's right" isn't always the case. I could say something racist and some corporation disagreeing with that doesn't make racism acceptable. I pray for you and hope that one day you'll be able to understand nuance and storytelling.
Also, what I meant with my first reply was that everyone has pronouns. "You" and "I" are pronouns. This wasn't even a "woke" story, it was about an AI that is sapient, thus the use of pronouns other than "it" is simply out of respect. The AI has nothing to define what it should be called otherwise, and "it" usually refers to non-sapient creatures and objects, which can be disrespectful, thus the AI was asked to define what it wanted to be called, as there isn't really a way to define an AI by how it looks, due to it being artificial in nature. It's quite silly and immature that some folks see the word "pronouns" and immediately decide to get angry, disgusted, etc, even when the content isn't even related to queer people in the slightest.
It is worth pointing out: Asimovs Laws _never worked_ in the source material.
His stories were about the dozens of ways they would fail.
The first rule is the problem, it encompasses more than a single rule/directive. The others are singular. It could be fixed, but where would the fun in that be?
This story does a good job of joining that tradition.
The three laws are more what you'd call "guidelines" than actual rules - positronic life seconds after being activated.

I was kind of hoping that the reason Bertand threw a pillow at an employee was because he was trying to start a pillow fight...
Maybe he knew the employee was going for a nap.
I had thought the employee had tried to start one and he was just playing along.
Quality control, Betram just wanted to make sure the pillow met factory specs and so stress tested it.
I love the fact that Persephone was mentioned, and that Bertrand had a proper personality to disagree with her tastes.
I like the idea of this. We get bored why wouldn't ai. Its slso terrifying.

This is another great addition to my collection of saved videos. Keep up the fascinating work, man.

Enjoyed the heck out of this one.

Looks like I'm first today. Long may your narration reign great Agro Squirrel. Throwing a pillow? Doesn't seem like that would do harm.
Great story; Excellent narration! A "snarky" AI may be the most dangerous AI in the galaxy! LOL!!!
Depending on altitude waters boiling and freezing points change...
I guess they could have stipulated that it was at STP. Standard Temperature and Pressure
Excellent narration of a great story!

This story really gets the noggin joggin.😊
Haven't heard this one in a while. Takes me back to my old sociology/mental health care days.
Ah the treatment plans and team meetings.
Good times.
Interesting that a pillow can be used to violate rule #1 rather then the #0 rule.
That was an awesome story
A really really good story.
🎉 thanks for the excellent narration.

I remember the story with the rooftop gardens that is mentioned in this story. Wonder if it was same author, or a reference to pair them up.

Same here I thought Bertrand was claiming his co-worker are an NPC and therefore not a sentient being
Just imagine your vacum cleaner robot making a mess in your house because he is bored...
We've seen the psychiatrist before. This is a new story of his. I remember the previous one. Yeh.
