When Rachel said she's similar to Poki, I thought she meant constantly getting into the garbage and screaming for food But instead she's smol soft quiet baby
@@pskugd8385 Can you please fuck off and stop promoting your religion on a video about cat, wich has absolutly NOTHING to do with religion? And stop replying to every comment with this.

Since she's an uncommon breed and definitely somewhat socialised around humans she's probably been dumped for "undesirable" traits like her eye issue :( It's really sad that some people see cats (and other pets) as household objects and not as living companions, but I'm really glad Pichi got lucky and ran into you!
That nystagmus is a much less serious thing than what my parents' cat has. He's got a front paw that isn't bent correctly (sideways), so he basically walks and runs on the wrist of that paw.
she almost looks like my princess that my mean ass sister toke her away no good reason but mean to me she hate that love my cats human children and won't do any thing to hurt them
I'm glad Rachel mentioned the situation in japan regarding adopting vs buying cats. It was SO HARD for us to find adoptable cats in japan, because all the locals we asked would just suggest we go to the pet store and buy one. Shelters never seemed to cross their minds. :( And buying a kitten at a pet store easily cost $1000 or more. I think it was actually a website mentioned on this channel years and years ago that eventually led us to our cats. The group who was taking care of them, as far as I could tell, was really informal and 100% volunteer. I'm eternally grateful to those people, but I do wish Japan as a whole had better systems (and social attitudes!) for pet adoption.
The us has had many years of "adopt don't shop" kind of advertising that I think japan could benefit from a bit of tbh. Most people who love animals will adopt when they know there are options to do so.
This happens almost everywhere in the world and it sucks. My heart breaks when I see an animal on the streets and I know I can't adopt them and nobody wants them. I think we need to have universal law with a great punishment that won't allow people to sell animals.
Kind of makes you wonder what they think a shelter is for... Wish they could do commercials like here in America. The ASPCA "In the Arms of the Angel" commercial was a massive hit, both with donations and adoptions. Japan needs a punch to the gut advertisement like that, lol.
Deo Volente I don’t think a law like that is the solution. It’s not going to make the industry disappear, all it will do is force it into the underground/black market like the exotic pet trade. I think a better solution is to educate the public on pet adoption. Right now there’s more status in buying a pedigree pet from a breeder, if we change public perception so that there’s status in adopting and shame in buying, it will change the tides just as it has done in the west
@@deovolente5867 I agree with sentiment, but often price tag twarts the least motivated ones from grabbing free kitten/puppy and abandoning them. World is changing for the better in many ways, but not fast enough
"She's welcome to stay with us forever if she doesn't find a home" soooo in other words welcome to Rachel and Jun's fourth furry baby xD This is so cute and you're amazing
Yeah, she's probably a dumped cat. And theres no way shes feral. I've worked with feral cats and they are... a lot more dramatic. Hopefully meeting your cats will help bring her out if her shell! They tend to learn from each other and are far more socially oriented than we give them credit for.
Agreed, I'm sure she was dumped. I had a cat once as a kid who I found that'd been declawed, I found out later from a neighbor that he'd seen someone throw her out the back of their truck while driving down the highway. She had a huge scar on her back, and was really scared at first. People who dump animals like that should have to live in a dog shelter cage for the rest of their lives.
I dont think so. I have adopted a 5 year old feral cat that has lived his prior life in a barn with other cats and he was acting the exact same as her. He took a whole month to be comfortable leaving his little space and roam free, and now he is doing absolutely wonderful and LOVES pets. He will come up to you, stare at you and yell for pets, if you do not comply, he will paw at you and loaf on whatever you are doing (work/laptop/keyboard)
Her coloring definitely makes me think she was a pet. It’s uncommon to see a cat with that kind of pattern. A Siamese variation on the streets? Not a result of stray cats breeding.
It's completely possible, just unlikely. I work with an animal rescue and meet sweet ferals all the time, and personally have had 3 ferals that have been extremely human-friendly. My second boy (God rest him, died at 4 years old due to dental cancer that accelerated way too quickly because of his Feline AIDs) was probably the biggest anomaly. While he was outside he swatted at me and I thought he was being aggressive but later I learned he was just pulling your hand to his head to be pet! I actually brought him inside by picking him up and putting him inside my winter coat when it was freezing and snow was 5 inches deep outside. Our current former-feral is friends with anyone, and often gets into trouble when he escapes and tries to make friends with other feral cats and outside dogs. I'm really not sure if it's just their natural temperament or the amount of time they spend with humans, but it's fully possible for feral cats to be friendly to humans and other animals and I see it fairly often!
The fact that Rachel specifically mentions that she is NOT pregnant makes me think some people (online) are pushing them and that makes me sad actually
it's a thing stupid "fans" do on every cishet couple's TH-cam channels... The male viewers go as far as blasting the guy for "not being man enough to support her and give her a child, you can see how she wants it but he doesn't, it's obvious that she lies about not wanting a kid just to please him", and the female viewers start being super intrusive and meddlesome like "it's sad that you don't have a kid yet, when are you going to make one, that kid's gonna be so precious, I really want that for you guys, you should do this and that when you have that kid, are you pregnant yet? that would be the best thing ever!", etc.
@@dma93-ch Yknow people are screwed up when they think relationships HAVE to involve a baby. I think being expected to have a baby in the relationship and not appreciate the relationship as it is, can sound sexist to some extent.
I don't think she's feral either, she doesn't act at all like a cat that's feral, she's acting like a cat that's very, very scared. A feral cat doesn't even let a person get NEAR it when inside, and the fact that she will even let you touch her after one month tells me at some point in kittenhood, she had humans. I'm so very glad you guys were able to find her and help her!
I think it really depends on the cats personality. I’ve fostered lots of feral cats and kittens and some are harder than others to socialize. Sometimes you just have to roll the kitten up in a blanket and snuggle it so it understands 😂
My cat was feral her whole life but she ate out of my hand after a month. She was already about 4 years old when I found her. It just depends on the cat. It’s been about 2 years and she still only trusts me and will occasionally play around me. She’s more comfortable playing when nobody is around though.
@@Beelzebubby91 That's not socialisation. Rolling a cat up in a blanket and forcing it to "socialise" is not a method that ANYONE who is knowledgeable about feral animals would recommend.
coffinbaby ive been doing this for years, I’m talking about the teeny tiny kittens that are 2-4 weeks old. Of course I’d never do it with an older one. I put the kittens in my lap and put a blanket around them so they feel safe and I feed them wet food. Then they associate me with food. It all depends on the personality of the cat, ive rarely had to do this and only for a few days before the kitten trusts me. And some times it doesn’t matter if the cat doesn’t like it, if I have to give it medicine and it won’t stay still it’s getting rolled up in that blanket no matter what.
@@BullyGirlUzi Socialisation is a spectrum, but a cat being unowned does not mean it's feral, a cat being aggressive does not mean it's feral, a cat being shy or lacking confidence does not mean it's feral. I took in a 4 year old cat off the streets, she's the most loving, amazing, snuggly cat, though she has behavioural issues (now 4 years on) leftover from her time before me and though she's very anxious about trusting people besides me, she's so friendly. This is because she is not and never was feral. I've also taken in a largely unsocialised ~9 month old cat, due to extenuating circumstances that required him to be homed inside rather than left in his colony. He acted exactly as you would expect a feral cat to. He was past the socialisation window, but as a colony cat, he knew people, he knew that people meant food and safety, he just didn't understand what being an indoor cat was like. Truly feral cats are always better in colonies, but he couldn't be, and thus, we made things work. Eventually he, through patience and space, became more socialised, but still is anxious, lacks confidence, and has other leftover problems that pretty much any late-socialised cat will. Your cat probably had a similar level of socialisation to the latter. This is what decides whether a cat can be socialised. Not their personality, not some mystical level of inherent socialisation, just the experiences they had before you got them.
I have to agree with a lot of the comments here... she's not feral, she's just terrified poor thing. I'm glad you're reassuring her and helping her feel safe.
ferals behave the way they do because they didn't get exposed to humans within the critical 8 week socialization window. feral kittens younger than that tend to get used to people fairly quickly, but once they're older than that there's a very low chance they'll ever be fully comfortable around humans.
“I’m not pregnant.” Rachel, I thought you were gonna tell us about finding land for your house or something. Lmfaooo. People really stay asking you that.
People are so nosy and entitled lol. As if any youtuber or anyone else we don't know owes us an explanation about anything involving their personal lives. They don't. Especially something as personal as pregnancy.
She’s a snowshoe cat... they’re supposed to be super social and curious. She’s missing an eye and withdrawn. Seems like she’s been through a lot. I hope she stays with you guys
@@jamiebumbaugh You're not wrong, it wasn't removed but it's not fine either. However, the reason they trapped her at all was because they saw the eye problem.
She was probably dumped because of her problems, like her tail (she's not "sellable" with it) and got attacked by a colony cat for being in their territory.
I had a calico for 19 years that had a kink in her tail and the trademark Siamese yowl. I loved that cat. At the time of her death (in her sleep from old age) I had her for 1/2 my life. I’m always on the lookout for another kitten similar to her that I can adopt from the animal shelter.
the fact that shes not a feral, and used the litter tray from day 1 makes me think she was dumped by someone- the breeder most likely if shes got these "defects" : (
It's a common misconception that ferals don't know how to use the litter box. All cats have an instinctual need to cover their wastes (exception with non-neutered males, illness and some behaviour issues), even young kittens separated from their mom at birth will do it unprompted. But yes, she was probably lost or dumped at a young age, because adult cats that have never know humans are very unlikely to ever socialize to humans, and especially not this fast. Some ferals will become friendly after they are spayed thought, but it's not very common.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Her trust issues don't seem to stem from not knowing humans, but from knowing them and being burned by them. She doesn't attack, and she let Rachel keep trying to help her even after the first cage attempt failed.
@@aletheiamccarthy6851 Exactly! All cats know and recognize the appropriate place to do their business - whether feral, strays or any breed whatsoever. apart from the very few exceptions like you mentioned above. Cats everywhere, are very clean animals with a sense of shame or modesty and basic hygiene! Their breed or race doesn't have anything to do with it.
not gonna lie I shed a tear when she said Pichi is welcome to stay with them forever if she can't find a home, Rachel and Jun are angels, thank you so much for caring for her!
Rachel immediately telling everyone she isn’t pregnant made me burst out laughing. I can’t imagine how tiring it must be for everyone to have everyone put that pressure on you, but the way she immediately was like “Good news! NOIMNOTPREGNANT but you’ll find out what it is in the next video!” Was funny to me
My cat does this too, with the flicking of the eye back and forth. She only started doing it when she lost one eye. The vet said it was a depth perception thing... but in any case, she's happy and seems to get along fine with it.
And so true too! I've had to adapt to my cat's consent boundaries as she has gotten older and changed, because making her life as comfortable and happy for her as possible is my goal! I might have to check her body language more than I used and not be able to lift her up as much and put up with her grumpiness more, but that is part of making the commitment when adopting a kitty - caring for them in their changing needs as they live life with you. :)
I never thought of it like that, but it's absolutely true. I've rescued and adopted several cats for the last 26 years and each one has their own personality that you can't and shouldn't force change on. Just let them be themselves and let them come to you for what they want and need and they'll be happy. Their personalities make each of them unique and special.
Skelly MacAullen yes!! Ppl that dont understand cats don’t understand consent and have a problem with control usually. Its a different type of understanding thats needed in order to interact with a cat and if a grown person struggles to do so with a pet, then its sus for me
@@HadenBlake oh for sure! Like, I understand people who've had bad experiences with cats being hesitant or even uncomfortable around cats, but to call them evil as a species is an entirely different thing. That really says a lot about a person's character, like 'I'm impatient' 'I don't respect boundaries' and 'I don't understand feelings and have no intention of ever trying to.'
@@zoemaple7752 Their final dynamics remains to be seen, but I kinda see her being the bossy one. I vote Captain Pichi, she was so smart too. Poki is lovable gluttonous dummy that gets struck in trashbins ( °∞° ) and is only interested in titles If they bring food benefits.
some advice from someone who also has a one eyed kitty; my cat loves to play and his favorite toys are all sparkly/shiny or they have a bell or some other noise maker. he plays a lot more with those toys than any of the other ones and its obviously easier for him to see/hear them. he does still have depth perception issues but i do too so lol
As a rescuer myself, i’d put good money on her having been abandoned when they realized she has some issues. Or the breeder couldn’t home or use her for breeding her so they left her out.
I desperately want to think that she just ran away from a home where she was wanted, but I know from experience that that’s not the most likely scenario 😔
Yup. I had a Siamese cat who was given up for adoption by a breeder when he was a kitten - he had a fall and lost an eye, the breeder paid for the vet fees but wouldn't take him back. And my current cat (got her as a kitten) got left with her sisters outside the shelter right after Christmas, probably because whoever owned her couldn't sell her... Some people are just awful. But here in the UK at least there's a really strong focus on pet adoption so there's plenty of people out there who are happy to take those cats! Which I think is very heartening.
@@clarakoenig7923 Just to not make things as bleak as they sometimes are, a small ray of light in regards to people who leave cats outside, it could very well be the case that their shelter was full or that they simply didn't have the ability to care for the kittens and were hoping that someone would find them. If I was in a desperate situation, I'd do my best to make sure the box was weather proof as possible, breathable, put some food I could spare inside and put them in a warm safe spot that was still obvious for people to see if I had no ability to feed them long term and my shelter couldn't take anymore. I think there are people who feel they have no choice and are doing what little they can and people who are just assholes who don't view animal life the same as any other life. But over all, given the situation Pichi was probably in, yeah, I would say her owner thought she was defective and abandoned her at best.
When my son and I were visiting Japan last fall, we went to a cat cafe in Tokyo. I was disappointed to find that most of the cats were purebreds who were bought for that form of entertainment. The cat cafes that we have where we’re from have rescue cats that are all adoptable. It takes effort to change attitudes, but it’s so worth it. “Don’t shop. Adopt!”
I agree, that would be such an important step in Japan. Starting with cat cafes who rescue cats and people can hang out with them & adopt them. Closing down those awful, awful pet shops. But even outside of Japan, a lot of people are encouraging breeding instead of adoption and I think there needs to be more effort put in everywhere to inform the public and make adoption more attractive.
I’m honestly surprised by that. In Kentucky we have a cat cafe for adoptable pets. :) it’s basically just a shelter that serves small drinks in a separate restaurant room. So it’s a bit of a stretch to really call it a cat cafe. But I still wanna go.
I went to one in a suburb of Tokyo and they had FIV positive cats only so that they wern't put down. It was a nice expreince none of the cats were scared and there were only locals in there just reading books while they pet them to support the cafe by fees. There were 2 kittens too, it was small but the cats seemed happy so it is better they can enjoy that life at least. As far as I remember they were all adoptable.
@@TheSlipperyNUwUdle We have a place like that in Ohio. You can bring the drinks/food to the cat section next door (or order them to be brought to you), but for sanitary reasons they can't have the cats in the cafe part.
"you just gotta let a cat be whatever kinda cat it wants to be." i second this so much!! my mom thinks my cat is bipolar but she's just hyper, energetic, and gets overstimulated easily when pet. i started noticing that when she was around 6 months old or so, and by the time she was a year old i realized it wasn't just kitten energy that would fade, and that this is just who she is. i wanted a cuddly lap cat, but i also wanted other things that she wasn't either (male silver tabby is what i'd always wanted, but she's a regular tabby). i often say she's not what i wanted, but she's what i needed. i've accepted that she's crazy, she's hyper, and she won't cuddle or tolerate being pet much. i've also learned how she shows love, though - we wink/blink at each other a good deal, she brings me toys when she wants to play, and she loves to be right up in whatever i'm doing. i love her too much to not accept her as she is, and dropping her off in a shelter is something i physically couldn't do. she's my child, in every sense pretty much, and a mother doesn't abandon her kid just because they aren't who she wanted them to be. besides, she's named after freddie mercury, so i kind of brought this on myself. but hey, at least she's fabulous!
If more people thought this way, both kids and pets would be better off. I get extremely upset for children or animals with behavioral, physical or mental problems; it’s not their fault they exist or have these issues and they have little to no control over their conditions. And being “imperfect” usually leads to increased rates of abuse, harassment, and trauma.
@@jessical4866 exactly! parents/owners, if they truly love the child/pet as much as they say they do, should do research and become prepared to help the child/pet. if you can't/won't do that then do you really love them?
@@hitsujiyume To me, when you get pregnant, or adopt, or foster, or go to the shelter, you’re accepting the 1% chance that they will have [insert problem/illness]. You’re accepting that, while this kid or pet COULD be perfect, they also COULD be tragically in need of support. When you decide to continue with bringing a dependent into you life, you’re declaring you will take full responsibility, even if what happens isn’t picture perfect.
Agree. I have a cat like Poki, and while he has slowed down a lot over the years,he'll always be his own "in your face" kind of cat. (written with him next to me staring at me)
I choked on the end line..... "she's welcome to live here with us forever". I had to give my rescued feline friend up for health reasons, and I miss her every day. I let her down.

Pichi is like the exact opposite of my cat Arturo. My cat Arturo was also a stray, but he came to us. Like seriously he just walked up to us one night we were looking at the stars.
Ours tried to break into our house! We already had three cats, and this new boy would hop up on the window sills outside and meow at us to come feed him, and would try to get inside when I opened the door. He visited other houses in the neighborhood and was just as pushy with them; he finally stopped by on an afternoon before I had the next day off, so I was able to bring him in, isolate him, and take him straight to the vet the next day. He now runs away from the front door when I open it, so I think he's very happy to be inside!
Sort of like my dad's old cat, Smokey. Smokey rang my dad's doorbell (there was a ledge) and just walked in when the door was opened. Sometimes cats adopt you.
We knew our oldest cat came from the first litter of one of the local strays. We took him in and he's 16 now. A similar story for our second cat. We found our third cat in a tree. She gently jumped from the tree to my mom's arms. Unlike the other two, she was already an adult when she came to us.
Lived in an apartment complex once where I met a very friendly black kitten. I was a kid back then and my brothers had wanted me to play tag with them. I hated being outside (the Louisiana humidity was awful) but I went out anyways. When I first walked outside, I saw the kitten who ducked under the cars in the parking lot. I wanted to call it to me but we were playing the game and we weren't allowed to have pets anyways. Very early the next morning, I don't know why but I got up while it was still dark to see if the kitten was there. It actually was! More impressive was that it indeed came to me when I clicked my teeth to call it. I fed it some lunch meat and I think I snuck it in my bedroom for a bit. I let it out from my bedroom window, but this also meant that when it returned on other nights, it knew to go to my window. Somehow, the landlord saw me (he lived at the front of the apartment complex) and came over to ask my mom about the cat. She knew nothing and when she asked me, naturally I denied everything. But after that, I never saw that kitten again. A rumor went around that he Old Yeller'd the cat, but I don't believe that. A gunshot would've been way too noticable and everyone would've been on the same page about having heard something like that. I'd like to think he instead took them ("them", because there were actually several kittens. A previous tenant just released them I suppose when the cat they snuck and owned had kittens) to a shelter or found a home for them. I don't think he was heartless enough to kill the kittens.
You guys should do a crowd fundraising for her medical bills. We want to help her! Have you ever thought about opening a cat shelter of your own? I'm sure your subscribers would help economically, but I guess it's really difficult to even create a network of foster homes and caretakers for the cats. It would be nice, though!
I think a shelter is a bit out of dimension for their other work plans, but they did mention they'd love to be a regular foster home for cats and maybe building up a network could work out!
@SMG Great point! Or, if you feel like you want to help strays in Japan specifically, there's tons of Japanese shelters and rescues that profit from donations and shares as well, so you can choose to have impact there still! (Just a quick google brought me the Japan Cat Network for example)

@@RachelandJunAdventures I am truly impressed by your mastery of cat care. You have done a tremendous job with Pichi and are so patient and knowledgeable. I have been looking forward to an update and I am SO GLAD she's making such excellent progress. Snowshoes are the best cats, we had a stray when I was a kid and he ended up being the Best Cat Ever. After Buddy was gone (at 20!), my mom adopted another snowshoe from a kill shelter. They really are such special cats. I would take Pichi in a heartbeat if it were possible but I honestly think you and Jun should keep her! She's already made so much progress, I think it won't be long before she's fully socialized.
Edit3: It's back. 😭 I'm sorry to everyone who couldn't watch during these ~40 min. Very disappointed this happened but at least it's okay now! (Detailed info: Reached out to TH-cam several ways--managed to reach someone through the "live chat" help section. They didn't really say anything or seem to know what was happening. I googled the issue myself in the meantime and it seems like other people said this happened to them when they used the blur tool in TH-cam's editor, which I used. Can't confirm it but my suspicion is that the final portion of TH-cam's re-processing the video after the blur tool edit is what caused it to go unavailable for everyone. This theory is supported by the fact that when the video came back, it was only available in 360p resolution first, and also my editor page no longer said it was processing. TH-cam has had live editing tools for years now, where you can roughly trim things/blur/do a couple basic things and while I've used it to blur out things in the past I don't recall the video ever actually becoming totally unavailable during the process. It's not supposed to. But I guess sometimes these things just happen! But anyway, long story short: be warned if you need to use TH-cam's blur tool!!) Edit2: Not sure why it's suddenly saying it's "unavailable on this device"! It's showing that for me, too. This has never happened to us before. Trying to see if TH-cam can help! Edit: Done. AHHH I can’t believe I forgot the Japanese subtitles!! The vet basically said she’s much calmer than she was last time, and she’s made a ton of progress in such a short period of time so he thinks she’ll get used to living with people! That was an important part lol SORRY! I’ll get the subtitles up ASAP! A few people commented about there being no subtitles but my brilliant brain legit thought they were talking about not having ENGLISH SUBTITLES. (Sometimes people ask for them). Excuse me, I'm a little bit daft today lmao.
Passing this along - Two things that really help socialize strays more quickly is what I call 'speaking without speaking' - sort of a humming that you do in a gentle and soft speaking cadence. You both have good voices for this. The other approach is an established technique called The Tellington Touch, a series of tactile tornadoes in a pattern of 1 3/4 circles with fingertips only. These can be done singly or in a continuous series and works most successfully in cats along the skull and spine at first. The sign that you're doing it correctly is when the animal sighs and visibly relaxes. Little Pichi appears unlikely to have ever had the luxury of letting her guard down. I cannot think of a better home for Pichi than with you. Sending you positive energy and much love with hopes for the future for your beautiful, fuzzy family.
I foster feral kittens and with my limited expertise, she isn't feral. It's extremely difficult to socialize feral kittens after they turn 9-10 weeks, and adults are near impossible. There is a reason that most rescues will spay and release kittens after 10 weeks and barely attempt to socialize adults. People don't realize that kittens are born feral, and are socialized by their parents to trust humans or humans themselves. The fact she didn't start growling and swiping at you at the beginning and has already allowed you to pet her makes me think she was once owned or at least raised by humans. She's probably been on the streets for awhile. Our last foster kittens were 8 weeks old and took two weeks to reach this stage, and another week for one of them to approach us for pets (the other never fully trusted us before adoption). The fact you have made this much progress in a month is great. My next tips would be to introduce play, as well as getting her to climb on your lap while she eats (make it so she has to climb over you to get the food). Chicken baby food is also a godsend for socializing cats too. It's like kitten crack. Lastly, she will probably start to make much greater process when introduced to other cats. They learn from each other and when she sees all three of your other kitties coming up for pets, she will start associating pets = good.
I think adding the subtitles broke your video because I'm just getting an error message saying this video is unavailable on this device on both my PC and my phone T_T
In Siamese cats, the gene that causes their coat color also effects their eye-brain connection because that gene codes for tyrosinase, which is both involved in the synthesis of melanin (that gives fur and skin darker coloring) and the development of the optic chiasm (the connection between the brain and the eyes).
My 3 year old rescue cat is still not completely comfortable being held and touched, although we got him when he was really small! When he eats we can touch him anywhere, but when he is not we can't touch his belly, paws, or legs. If we do he starts hitting us with his paw. He is absolutely in love with our dog, pushes his head against our dog constantly and expects to be licked. Overall he is really comfortable in our home, he lays on his side a lot, does want attention and asks for it, but has very stict limits for touching him. Overall very confusing, but we love him anyways! lol
When my girly was still with us, we'd had her for about three years I think? And she was just starting to be willing to stand on us and be held. She was an indoor cat her whole life, had never been outside for any significant time. And even as she was warming up it was definitely at a different pace for everyone. She was more likely to stand on or sit by me, but was very happy to be held by my brother. My mom mostly was pets, and my sister was only tolerated for pets. She never really bit the kid, but tbh she should've. My sister was a brat to her, lol
That’s the same way my cat is! We found her in a tree outside our house like 4 years ago and she still very rarely likes to be picked up and never sits in anyone’s laps but we still love her anyway 👌🥰
I think that's rather common, though. In my street there's a (definitely not-stray) cat who stops by our house for cuddles sometimes, and he has strict touching boundaries despite being the absolute opposite of a feral. Some cats are just more independent and don't like belly and legs touched, no matter how they lived.
I rescued a kitten myself. He was scared of me a lot during my first day, but at night he was crying, so I went and carefully carried and held him. He latched on with his claws and his his face in my shoulder and neck. And taking I've been holding him and feeding him and giving him attention. He will now cry to get my attention or shutter at me. He will wake me up in the morning licking my face and chattering. He climbs only my leg and should when I get home from work. He misses me when I'm at work. He is a sweet boy, who I named Michio, still have bad habits of attacking hands, jumping into shoulders with claws out, but lately he's been mainly licking and nipping lightly, which I prefer he does and prefer it when playing. He is slowly learning to be gentle when playing.
Rachel, you being pregnant wasn’t even on my mind when you mentioned there being exciting news. I just assumed it had something to do with the house you and Jun wanna build. Yours and Jun’s personal lives are none of anyone’s business. People need to stop being so nosy.
Sadly for many simple minded people, this is the only thing that counts. Not that those two make great youtube content, saved a cat and now saved another. I wish they would see the bigger picture. Procreating isn't and shouldn't be the only goal in life.
Yess, i've always been annoyed by people who expects any loving couple to have children's and then just that. Like why?? Not every persons goal is to have a family and just that?? Especially when people force other couples to have childrens because you *have to*, no. You don't have to have a family to be happy. They can do whatever they want and it's not your business to say that. They have different things that make them happy. Sheesh
@@3proutboy Same here. In fact, when I brought up not really wanting to have kids, I get the "don't knock it until you try it!" and "don't sell yourself short!" comments from family. They couch it in wanting what's best for me but I find it so damn disrespectful, since they basically discount what my thoughts and feelings are on the matter. In one ear and out the other. I'm not a baby machine.
@@MelleyWL687 omg I get you so much, I've said "i don't really wanna have kids" to one of my best friends and their reaction was surprised and confusion. they thought every female should have children, and it's disgusting that adults put this mindset of every woman should have children, my friend wasn't even bad or anything they were really kind and nice, but their parents.. It's just horrible. Anyone should have freedom to what ever they want to do or want to be in life.
This poor thing might have been a cat that a breeder couldn't sell so they dumped her...poor little thing. I am so glad that you and Jun have her. I have three rescues myself and any cat that has ever found it's way into my life was from the streets. I hope that she will learn to get along with your three boys, she deserves to be with people that will be kind and loving to her as I know you and Jun will. Looking forward to more updates about her :) You worked SO hard to get her help and I think she has to know that.
Easytoslip, since this one is a purebred, it is unlikely to be born outside. Another possibility is she slipped away, couldn't find her way home, and spent some time on the streets before being found.
That's probably the reason she's so scared and untrusting. Probably dumped into a harsh environment with no idea how to be a full feral cat and then on top of that having an injured eye. I feel so bad for the animals who have to suffer because of peoples greed. I do hope Jun and Rachel take good care of her. I've always loved cats but I've never had a possibility to just take them in and care for them, no matter how much I want to(apartment issues). I need to be realistic that until I have my own home I can't give hope to those unfortunate animals, only to give them away to someone I don't know :(
One of the best pieces of advice I've ever heard about adopting cats is not to be upset if you don't get the cat you were expecting. They have their own affection limits and personalities and it's not fair to force them to be something they don't want to be. Excellent job you're doing with Pichi!
That's what happen when people choose a cat by the look, or a kittens only a few days old. A kitten should never be put up for adoption before 2 months old, and people should stop choosing their cats solely based on the cute factor. I'm a foster and a rescuer and I can assure you this is what happens 99% of the time, often with sad consequences. Cats have personalities, flaws, needs. If people don't want a bad surprise, and continue to spread the misconception that cats are a*holes who do what they want, they should choose a cat based on personality and compatibility with their home.
@@aletheiamccarthy6851 I agree, but in my experience people will choose cats based on their looks mostly, my family also does this, so it's also just about being prepared for the fact that cats are all individuals. My dad really wanted a black female cat around 12 years ago, we adopted a very shy slim kitty (3-4 months old) from a local farm. once we arrived home, we quickly found out this cat was claustrophobic, didn't like to be touched, and also male (not sure how we missed that). It's probably pure luck that in our house it was no problem to let him venture outside freely. And even tho he pisses up our walls in spite of being neutered and he scratches you when he doesn't want to get petted, I love this cat a lot. But in case of people who are expecting a sweet ball of fluff to cuddle with all day, ye that wasn't what happened, and someone not prepared would probably have gotten rid of this kind of cat... Long story short: don't pick your cat based on looks only and if you do, be prepared for any unexpected surprises :')
Watching your cats made us want a cat and Pichi inspired us to finally adopt. Last weekend we adopted a bonded pair of older cats, including one who lived in a colony and evaded capture for a year (and two litters), but didn't end up being feral. We are rewatching your cat videos while we wait for them to be comfortable enough leave under the couch :)
Besides this kind couple, be sure to watch Flatbush Cats on Y.Tube. He’s a wonderful guy who feeds stray and feral cats/kittens in his area of NY city. He has lots of very helpful videos on capturing and taming frightened kitties. Cats that can’t adapt to indoor life and are too stressed are TNR (trapped, neutered & released) back into their old territory but he tries to socialize as many as possible.
Rachel and Jun are actual real-life heroes. They work so hard to be the best they can be.. and that last bit at the end.. that Pichi is welcome to stay at their home, that is such loving kindness! Having the door of your heart open and treating all beings with care. Looks like whatever happens to Pichi from here on will bring her happiness and it's so nice to have some real positivity in these harsh times. I'm looking forward to seeing updates about her and seeing how her relationships develop with the rest of the bunch!! Mreow!
You ending the video by saying that as long as Pichi's comfortable, she'll have a home with you even if she doesn't find another family to adopt her, made me tear up 😭 I'll be making a donation to my local cat charity today in her (/your) honour! Thank you for all the work you do.
It would be annoying having some people shouting about it in the comments, good move by Rachel. They have lot of things they are passionate about and involved in and lead the lives they want to whatever it entails in future. Probably more excellent catparenting 🐈
@@jasminee204 unfortunately that's really common when female youtubers who have a publicly stated boyfriend or partner say they have an announcement. Jenna Marbles had to say that a few times as well that I know of

The fact that she sleeps so well in your presence is a very good sign. Cats won’t sleep like that if they don’t trust you. I hope she and the other cats will get a long . And that she has found her forever home with you guys. Since she is already trusting you.
That's my assumption, too. She probably got injured or her eye was being affected by her genetic defect due to her breed and they couldn't/didn't want to pay for the treatment. Really sad. I'm so grateful for people like Rachel and Jun and hope to do the same for my area soon.
@Mia SmithI dont think so, just because Rachel said she showed up pretty fast and the wound on her eye looks like it was there for a little while and not just something she got on the street
We want more of Pichi..Hopefully Pichi can be the new members of Jun&Rachel family..loking forward to Haku reaction and of course our favorite air siren raid Poki..and our polite boi Nagi..hehe
I'm literally crying for happiness to see her improvements. My country has a severe problem of stray animals, all my furry babies are rescued off from the streets. I still remember the first time each of them allowed me to touch their paws. The first cat I rescued and kept is blind and I couldn't have imagined how strong and capable of everything cat he is, I hope she can recover and adjust to being loved and taken care of 💕
Our beloved cat developed nysthagmus as one of the early signs of a brain tumor. I was immediately reminded of him watching Pichi. Pichi was an indoor cat at one point vecause she was familiar with cat litter. She's a beautiful girl.....I would definitely adopt this sweetheart. Thank you so much for rescuing Pichi.
As a one eyed cat owner he still has remarkable depth perception. And also has the bump on the hip... It was a scar. But wow, the rehabilitation is quite different from Poki.
Really appreciate you talking extensively about socializing a scared cat and also the struggles of cat rescue in Japan. It’s something I hope more people know and understand.
My mother’s friend has a cat that has some kind of disorder that make his brain smaller then usual. He was adopted from a shelter here in Sweden. Even tho he has something wrong with his brain and his legs, he is one of the kindest cats the world would ever know
My dad caught our cat on a construction site 13 years ago, and she still barely lets us touch her paws. (Nail cutting is an EXPERIENCE lol). Pichi definitely has some experience with humans!!
If there is any chance she’s previously been vaccinated, the bump on the hip could be a vaccine reaction, which is more common in cats than other species. My cat had a similar reaction to his first adult rabies vaccine. It could potentially mean she’s predisposed to vaccine associated sarcoma and it might be worth requesting the vet give any future vaccines lower in the leg to allow for amputation if cancer does develop. The vaccine associated sarcoma in cats tends to be extremely invasive.
I was going to say the same thing! Would be a good idea to keep an eye on that bump since its where they usually do the vaccine for rabies Especially if shes looking more and more like a dumped pet :(
My outdoor kitty had a bump on her hip as well, thought it might be an abscess so I put cotton pads soaked with rubbing alcohol on it but obviously since it wasn't an open wound I don't know if it did anything. It did rupture eventually, on its own or maybe she did it, left a pretty big wound. All is good now! But I thought immediately it might be such an abscess/cyst when Rachel mentioned it.
Indeed, I thought the same, especially if it's a soft bump, my cat had the same and since he is exclusively indoor we were advised to vaccinate him every 3 years. Apparently it depends on the type of vaccine too, some rabies vaccines are better than others.
Wow, this is really important to learn, thank you for posting this! I'm learning about bumps and lumps caring for shelter cats, I'll take everything I can read.

Yeah I knew as soon as I saw her that this was either a rejected breeder, an accidental kitten that couldn't be sold or some such. The breed is too rare a find and she's too close - *_I am overjoyed to see how kindly you and Jun have treated this little life!_* Thank you for being so decent, it cheered me up immensely to know that the kitty will have a home, even if she can't ultimately be adopted out.
"I'm not pregnant, that's not the news" HAHA shutting it down immediately I'm so glad pichis making progress!! hope she finds a great home or is a nice addition to your family!
A tip about touching there paws is if you itch between the pad and toes or between the toes. They might resist for a few seconds but they can't help streching there toes out and they really enjoy it. Because they can't itch there very well. Also holding there tail so they can chew on the very tip.
Maybe she just wasn’t treated too nicely by her previous owners so when she got injured they left her in a different town. She seems more scared than feral. I kinda hope that they end up keeping her since she adapting to a brand new family again could be stressful for her. Plus shes pretty cute
Joke aside, nursing a sickly malnourished and then seeing him/her finally pooping and peeing even if it's on your couch can bring out joy since it means the cat has start to eat and drink.
I adopted a kitten a couple of month ago. He was malnourished and wasn't eating, I was really worried about him and when he finally used is litter box I was so relieved (because he was eating) that I cried haha now he's a healthy little boy.
I had adopted a stray cat a year ago and he wasn't this timid/scared but still timid enough to be afraid of regular movements he was so overcautious. The unwillingness to play lasts for a couple of months until they finally get comfortable in their environment. Cats take so much time to adjust and all are different. This one is super sweet!
I just adopted a cat. She's a bit skittish right now so I've been rewatching all your Pichi videos as a refresher on how to help a cat become more comfortable around you. I've done this with outdoor cats plenty of times but this is my first indoor cat and it's a whole different rodeo
I'm really sad to hear about the situation concerning cats in Japan , and hope your efforts can help improve things at least a little bit - perhaps it could be one of your long term goals to change the narrative for feral cats in Japan.

There are different levels of spiciness in feral cats. haha. it just comes down to how much experience and trust they have with humans
The fact that Rachel specifically mentions that she is NOT pregnant makes me think some people (online) are pushing them and that makes me sad actually
Its like with pewds and marzia its very sad honestly, just dont push people in general in all things
I always assumed they were a childfree couple.
it's a thing stupid "fans" do on every cishet couple's TH-cam channels...
On their other channel, since they don't post as often on it, people think she's pregnant or that they just don't post at all anymore.
Feral cats behave in the way they do because they are scared and don't trust humans. :)
ferals behave the way they do because they didn't get exposed to humans within the critical 8 week socialization window. feral kittens younger than that tend to get used to people fairly quickly, but once they're older than that there's a very low chance they'll ever be fully comfortable around humans.
“I’m not pregnant.” Rachel, I thought you were gonna tell us about finding land for your house or something. Lmfaooo. People really stay asking you that.

"cats are about consent" is....the wisest thing I've heard this week.
Its a different type of understanding thats needed in order to interact with a cat and if a grown person struggles to do so with a pet, then its sus for me
I just wish people realized that all animals need that respect and understanding of personal space. 😭

I went to one in japan where all the cats were adopted and werre up for adoption, all cat cafes should be like this
I went to one in a suburb of Tokyo and they had FIV positive cats only so that they wern't put down.

My cat Lucky just kinda went up to us when it was raining heavily and never left. She doesn't try to attack us so we just kinda claimed her as ours.
Yes, they want to foster, but they're just waiting til they have a bigger house and can dedicate a room to it.
They mentioned in the cat capture video that they're interested in fostering cats more regularly in the future ^^
@SMG Great point! Or, if you feel like you want to help strays in Japan specifically, there's tons of Japanese shelters and rescues that profit from donations and shares as well, so you can choose to have impact there still!

But anyway, long story short: be warned if you need to use TH-cam's blur tool!!)

Passing this along -
Two things that really help socialize strays more quickly is what I call 'speaking without speaking' - sort of a humming that you do in a gentle and soft speaking cadence.
Sending you positive energy and much love with hopes for the future for your beautiful, fuzzy family.
p i c h i
I foster feral kittens and with my limited expertise, she isn't feral.
@@Zanzapanda me to!! I tried on my phone and laptop, but both are saying the video is unavailable
Your profile pic tho 😂
That’s the same way my cat is! We found her in a tree outside our house like 4 years ago and she still very rarely likes to be picked up and never sits in anyone’s laps but we still love her anyway 👌🥰
Even not stray cats to that especially paws. Their belly is one or the most sensitive part of their body.

@@thedolphinqueen9921 i felt that. But how should 1 know which cat chosen the individual?
At the end “if she can’t find a home she is welcome to stay with us forever.” 😭♥️🐈
Epic foreshadowing
Watching your cats made us want a cat and Pichi inspired us to finally adopt. Last weekend we adopted a bonded pair of older cats, including one who lived in a colony and evaded capture for a year (and two litters), but didn't end up being feral. We are rewatching your cat videos while we wait for them to be comfortable enough leave under the couch :)
Aww that's awesome!
Aw that's so awesome
Rachel and Jun are such adorable cat parents. Its so wholesome and I'm glad she's doing well!
Mreow!
It'll be even more awesome when they finally have their home up and running for those lil guys!
@@randomlivestreams5900 oh shut up please. It's two in the morning and I don't want to deal with you

“Lift up her paws and extend her claws”
Aka you squished the beans.
You ending the video by saying that as long as Pichi's comfortable, she'll have a home with you even if she doesn't find another family to adopt her, made me tear up 😭 I'll be making a donation to my local cat charity today in her (/your) honour! Thank you for all the work you do.
That's the sweetest thing ever T - T
Btw they’re in Japan if that’s where your vet is
“No I’m not pregnant” HA
It would be annoying having some people shouting about it in the comments, good move by Rachel. They have lot of things they are passionate about and involved in and lead the lives they want to whatever it entails in future. Probably more excellent catparenting 🐈
She honestly shouldn't even need to clarify that. Why on earth would people jump to that conclusion and comment about it!? So rude and invasive.
@@jasminee204 unfortunately that's really common when female youtubers who have a publicly stated boyfriend or partner say they have an announcement. Jenna Marbles had to say that a few times as well that I know of
Jen Kitty not even youtubers, but women in general. Anytime a woman says she has a surprise everyone immediately assumes she’s pregnant. If she feels sick, everyone assumes she’s pregnant. If she’s happy, everyone assumes she’s pregnant. The assumption for women when it comes to everything is always “Oh, are you pregnant?!” because society seems to see women first as mothers or potential mothers and as people second. It’s annoying.
@Lana Joy i mean, people do, in fact, do that
My siamese boys eyes shake.
They were crossed when he was a kitten and "straighted out" but they shake.
Hes fine ☺
This is like bunny the rescued greyhound Julien and jenna has. A very nervous lady turned chilled out deer/horse.
Much more chill than Paesch, Cermet, and Muhble.
YES YES YES. I love Bunny so much, I hope Pichi has the progress and glow-up like she did with Jenna and Julien 🥺
A cat update on my bday, the universe is blessing me with cats. This has made my day despite my whole family forgetting about my bday
Happy Birthday!! I’m sorry your family forgot. That’s happened to me before, too, so I understand where you’re coming from!
Happy birthday! I hope your birthday is wonderful!
Happy Birthday and best wishes! My hubby will forget my birthday and our anniversary sometime over 28 years of marriage. He is saved many times over because he has been reminded by our son who forgets nothing. Hubby will jokingly say thank goodness that our son takes after me instead of himself.
Happy birthday bud, I hope you had a decent one anyway :((
Vonder Vox Happy bday to you too then! Hope you have a good bday
Joel Jacques i had a decent day, no one still cared when i told them but my cat saw me feeling down and gave me her cat toys
Thank you for the bday wishes ^^
The fact that she sleeps so well in your presence is a very good sign. Cats won’t sleep like that if they don’t trust you. I hope she and the other cats will get a long . And that she has found her forever home with you guys. Since she is already trusting you.
My guess is she was dumped after getting hurt, probably due to the people either not wanting to pay for the treatment or unable to.
I can see that being pretty likely in this case. Snowshoes are rare sights. Not likely to have gone unnoticed for long
That's my assumption, too. She probably got injured or her eye was being affected by her genetic defect due to her breed and they couldn't/didn't want to pay for the treatment. Really sad. I'm so grateful for people like Rachel and Jun and hope to do the same for my area soon.
@@pskugd8385 oh my lord stop
@Mia SmithI dont think so, just because Rachel said she showed up pretty fast and the wound on her eye looks like it was there for a little while and not just something she got on the street
We want more of Pichi..Hopefully Pichi can be the new members of Jun&Rachel family..loking forward to Haku reaction and of course our favorite air siren raid Poki..and our polite boi Nagi..hehe
7:22 the moment she set herself comfy and started closing her eyes... i wanted to cry thats so heartwarming
you finally won her with patience and love
I'm literally crying for happiness to see her improvements. My country has a severe problem of stray animals, all my furry babies are rescued off from the streets. I still remember the first time each of them allowed me to touch their paws. The first cat I rescued and kept is blind and I couldn't have imagined how strong and capable of everything cat he is, I hope she can recover and adjust to being loved and taken care of 💕
Our beloved cat developed nysthagmus as one of the early signs of a brain tumor. I was immediately reminded of him watching Pichi. I'm so glad you were not only able to rescue this sweet girl but also that you are so observant of the small signs with her and proactive on getting her a checkup. Thank you for everything you do for your kitty friends!
Hmm. Maybe Rachel and Jun should open their own shelter one day...
The entire sequence from 5:32 where Pichi slowly lies down and gets content with getting pet with the duster - It was so heartwarming and nice! Poor little Pichi, she's lucky as heck that you guys trapped her.
@@pskugd8385 No.
@@DurgDealer yes, exactly! I really hope she can stay with them too, she is so adorable and Jun and Rachel have the patience and understanding needed to help her blossom, so I really hope she can be with them - or that she will go to someone as sweet and loving!
A little salty that you didn't name her "Hokki" so that you would have the "Hokki Pokki"
Or "Hokey Pokey" as it were
OMG I just snorted laughing at this comment. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Pichi was probably a 'throw-away' cat from the breeders in-breeding their cats when they found she had the eye and tail issues. That's so sad!
I have a rescue cat, Garo, that was found at a garden center here where I live. We've had him for 7 years now, and his personality has just blossomed in the past few years we've had him.
He was very skittish in the beginning: no pats, ran from everyone and anything. With patience, consent and a whole lot of love he is now a round lap cat lol! He is a blast. Some cats just take longer than others and that is totally okay.
Great job Rachel and Jun! You guys are awesome 🥰
Aww, that names great! Just needs a lil' sword!
We literally have this stray cat in our house wandering around(once in a while), and we have dogs! Little guy's brave.
I won't even lie. When I noticed her eye, I started crying.
Her ear too
ye its rlly sad to look at. she os lucky that rachel and jun is raking care of her
Sadie is that a random fact or are you trying to say something? Lol
@@kris3458 i think they are trying to say that dont worry about pichi's ear
@@insfire99yearsago2 The tipped ear is not from a fight! Stray cats that were caught and spayed get the tip of their ear removed before they're put back on the street so they don't end up caught again.
Pichi was an indoor cat at one point vecause she was familiar with cat litter.
She's a beautiful girl.....I would definitely adopt this sweetheart.
Thank you so much for rescuing Pichi.
Pichi! I love Pichi already! Poor baby...I hope she learns how to adjust to being a happy house cat!
Usually in human nystagmus the eyes move very rhythmically...but maybe he has pendular or seeking nystagmus...(coming from a human ophthalmologist)
As a one eyed cat owner he still has remarkable depth perception. And also has the bump on the hip... It was a scar. But wow, the rehabilitation is quite different from Poki.
My first pet was also named "Pichi" hehe she was a chicken tho, not a cat
I miss her so much

Pichi: those flying birds are mine!
Even tho he has something wrong with his brain and his legs, he is one of the kindest cats the world would ever know
God bless you, Rachel. You been taking care and save Pichi.
My dad caught our cat on a construction site 13 years ago, and she still barely lets us touch her paws. (Nail cutting is an EXPERIENCE lol). Pichi definitely has some experience with humans!!
I was surprised that you were even able to hold her paw while eating. Cats generally don't like that. Keep building that positive association.
Would be a good idea to keep an eye on that bump since its where they usually do the vaccine for rabies
Especially if shes looking more and more like a dumped pet :(
My outdoor kitty had a bump on her hip as well, thought it might be an abscess so I put cotton pads soaked with rubbing alcohol on it but obviously since it wasn't an open wound I don't know if it did anything.
She’s adorable! 🥰 She’s like Brightheart from warrior cats! I love her so much!💕
oH MY GOD YEAH

It hurts my heart to know a beautiful soul like Pichi was abused. I’m so glad that she found Rachel and Jun to love her and hope stays with them forever. Thank you so much for sharing!
"I'm not pregnant, that's not the news" HAHA shutting it down immediately
I'm so glad pichis making progress!! hope she finds a great home or is a nice addition to your family!
Most cat owners: Ugh, clumpy pee, gross.
Rachel: YOU PEEED! GOOD GIRL!
I'd be happy if the cat peed rather than not peed. That is a serious problem
Joke aside, nursing a sickly malnourished and then seeing him/her finally pooping and peeing even if it's on your couch can bring out joy since it means the cat has start to eat and drink.
M V Uh, if you are a pet owner, you deal with the messes without complaint.
Marilyn Russell I have 2 cats. I’m still going to complain. Doesn’t mean I love both any less.
I adopted a kitten a couple of month ago. He was malnourished and wasn't eating, I was really worried about him and when he finally used is litter box I was so relieved (because he was eating) that I cried haha now he's a healthy little boy.
You poor kitty. You look so sad. You have had a rough life.
You deserve to have a nice quiet place to live with a decent person who will love you
I have nystagmus too, I can relate to her! You are doing an excellent job in helping this cat😍
I had adopted a stray cat a year ago and he wasn't this timid/scared but still timid enough to be afraid of regular movements he was so overcautious. The unwillingness to play lasts for a couple of months until they finally get comfortable in their environment. Cats take so much time to adjust and all are different. This one is super sweet!
psk ugd as a Muslim, would you enjoy it if a Christian advertised their religion to you? No? Exactly.
I just adopted a cat. She's a bit skittish right now so I've been rewatching all your Pichi videos as a refresher on how to help a cat become more comfortable around you. I've done this with outdoor cats plenty of times but this is my first indoor cat and it's a whole different rodeo
Her coat is so pretty Omg. Also her progress is great to watch. I've also taken in a few stray cats and they make some of the best pets.
I'm really sad to hear about the situation concerning cats in Japan , and hope your efforts can help improve things at least a little bit - perhaps it could be one of your long term goals to change the narrative for feral cats in Japan. It would be a story I would be honoured to see unfold. Thank you for saving Pichi and helping her regain her trust in humans. Also, I'm sure she'll love her big brothers :).
I had a kitty named Pokie too! He was a handsome cat; he was with me for almost 20 years before he checked out. Glad to meet your Pokie, and am happy y'all helped the one eyed kitty.
