      Does it almost feel like hitting a punch shot... I always pure it when I hit a punch but I think it's because how much you put your weight and your hands forward in that type of swing.

    Not gonna lie. I have been training my swing for 8 months using TH-cam and feedback from scratch golfers. I had about 5 guys on TH-cam that I trusted enough to listen to and try to learn from. Since finding Saguto golf last week, he is the only one I’ll listen to going forward! Makes it so simple! Soon as I go back to one of my old instructors, I’m back to over thinking.
    Thanks Tom!

      Just blown away honestly. Went to the range yesterday using Tom’s tips and it was the best range session in a while! Only problem was I hit maybe 4-5 balls a little fat out of the bucket. So I get on TH-cam this morning and this video teaching you how not to hit it fat or thin is staring me in the face. Ready for round 2 now!

      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Derek, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction.
      This swing system is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology, and it is modeled on empirical observations of the game's most prolific ball strikers. No surprise then that it stands the test of time and does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world today.
      Thanks again for your support and for sharing your improvement, and keep up the great work!!
      Tom
      PS: I may have already shared the link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. Here it is just in case: go.saguto.golf/ Beyond that, if you'd really like to get on the fast track towards properly learning this swing system in a comprehensive, structured, sequential platform, please consider my online school. That is where you will find very detailed instruction and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step, position-by-position from setup to finish, along with diagnostic and corrective tools for resolving common swing, contact, and ball flight issues, and much more. Thousands of men and women from across the globe - including many seasoned, low-handicap, competitive players and spanning all age ranges from junior to super-senior - are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.

    The best training style, methods and accurate information anywhere. I am 72 years old and have never actually played a round of golf. A bunch of duffers got me so confused I put the gear away for two years. I’m baaaaack and completely focused on working through my whole bag using Toms methods. Joining right after I finish typing. Then off to KFC for a 3 piece Krispy meal. Thanks Tom!

    I saw one of your videos on “TH-cam shorts,” that was less than two minutes long. It changed my game. I am 65 and a 7.1 index, but only because my short game is really good. I have been hitting/ball striking terrible for the past few years. Your short video showing how bringing back the club on the reverse C, and return it along the same arc reminded me of my first golf lesson ever. As I lose flexibility being older even though I’m in good shape at 6’ 0” 188 lbs, I just don’t have the flexibility I used to and realized I had been picking my club up and not making a shoulder turn. Your short lesson changed everything for me and I went out and shot 76 with my son. I’m now watching all your videos and sending them to my friends. I’m in San Diego but I saw you had a 717 area code and I am originally from Pennsylvania so if you’re from Pennsylvania that’s terrific because that’s where we originally are from. I can’t imagine why I’ve never discovered you before but you’re terrific and I appreciate your videos so very much. Thank you.

      That's awesome!! I'm very glad to know that lesson resonated so well with you - great job incorporating it into your swing and putting it into play!!
      A significant percentage of my students and online school members are in their 60's, 70's, and 80's - i.e.: a smorgasbord of chronic ailments, physical limitations, back/shoulder/knee/hip pain, arthritis, and joint replacements - and they are overwhelmingly elated to experience the dramatic pain-free game improvement, seemingly effortless power, and resulting enjoyment that this swing affords them. You don't need the flexibility of a Romanian gymnast - or even of this far less pliable golf instructor - to execute this swing and experience great ball striking.
      I'm in South Carolina now, but I did grow up in South Central PA.
      Thanks so much for your support and for sharing your success, keep up the great work, and have fun out there!!
      Tom
      PS: If you're interested in taking your game to the next level, please your game to the next level, please consider the online school. HOLY SH!T HOLY SH!T HOLY SH!T. Getting that far left always scared me but it was shocking how good it got me to rotate and activate my ground forces. No sliding, no jumping, none of that. I set my weight on my left side 60 - 30 and took a number of small swings to feel the change and get used to it and then......SNAP, I got the feeling, for another 35 minutes and found my low point. Flushed 10-12 in a row and began to trust where I was going to bottom out. Ramped up the speed and amazed myself with the mash I was feeling. Saw consistent distance and dined on KFC impact until I stopped. dude. the smile on my face right now is pure amazement. the last 20 years have been a huge ?????????. That has ended as of today. Thank you Tom and Jess. UNREAL.

    I have to hand it to you Tom. This video with Jess was like hitting the lottery for me. Maybe once in 30-40 swings with an iron, I would get that sweet buttery feel of a dead solid perfect, iron shot you talked about. I did exactly as you guys instructed. I took short swings with straight arms and 55-60 percent of my weight on my lead leg. I did this for about 15 minutes without hitting any balls. My divot was always in front of my alignment rod. Long story short, my first 8 shots with a half swing were spot on in the center of the club face. I had a little fade but oh how I loved that buttery feel and solid click of ball being hit perfectly. Tried a few 3/4 swings and they were good also. I have a few timing issues to start drawing the ball again but don’t anticipate that will be hard. Many thanks for the best day I’ve had on the range in a long time. Taking it to the course tomorrow!

    I committed at the beginning of the season to changing my swing.
    I've been playing 10 years now and have never been able to compress the ball and take a divot in front of the ball. This year through a lot of frustration and commitment (bad language and fits of frustration). I have learned a great deaal. I now make much better contact, take divots in front of the ball and have gained 2 club lengths. I am new to your channel and alot of the things I have worked on this year are mostly what you teach.

    I have become a big fan! Your videos are straightforward, understandable and helpful. What about weight being forward with the driver and fairway woods?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I sincerely appreciate your kind words, Vince, and I'm very glad to know that my lesson content and teaching style are resonating with you and providing clarity and simplicity in the muddied, overly complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction!
      Yes - the weight-forward component also applies to the driver and woods. In fact, it is essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. To demonstrate, you'll find towards the end of this episode some practice range footage of me hitting a 7 iron, 3 wood, and driver: th-cam.com/video/o0xscMyN3v8/w-d-xo.html Beyond that, if you search the word "drive" on this channel you'll see some related content.
      Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.
      Here is a link to my FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” where you can learn some aspects of the system I teach in a more structured manner: go.saguto.golf/ This will provide a nice foundational understanding of the swing keys that will ultimately get you mashing the ball through your entire bag.

    This is absolutely life changing. I have a net down in my basement and I immediately went down and did this drill. I have never in my life hit the turf after hitting the golf ball. I have never heard that crisp sound from my irons until tonight and I have had this set for 3 years. I’m going to repeat this drill every single day until it becomes muscle memory. I even did a few full swings and my goodness I think my 7 iron is going 200 yards when before it was 160-170. This is unreal how easy a golf swing actually is. Every time I golf these exact words come out of my mouth. “Golf is hands down the hardest sport there is”. I am almost 100% certain I will not have these words come out of my mouth on my next round

      I'm glad to know that you are seeing improvement, Tom!
      It's important to know why the ball is behaving a particular way in order to reverse engineer the cause. The ball is simply responding to the flight plan assigned to it by the clubface at impact. Clubface relative to target line dictates the ball's starting line, and face relative to path determines direction and degree of curvature. There's plenty of detailed content in the online school specific to ball flight fixes and shot shaping.
      Keep up the great work, and hopefully you'll be enjoying a steady diet of push-draws this upcoming season!!

    Great content guys, eliminating weight shift is something I've been thinking about for a long time and I wouldn't be surprised if modern golf instruction starts going in that direction. Another big advantage is that it's a lot easier to clean up the swing and filter unwanted movements that go along with the shift and are detrimental to the strike!

    I get this for irons but this applies for the driver as well?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually, Andrew, I address that question directly in this week's episode: th-cam.com/video/kuQ8HysGjP4/w-d-xo.html
      Yes - the weight-forward component also applies to the driver.
      I am aware that many folks out there believe - and some even teach - that we must try to "hit up on the ball" with the driver. However, consider that in our stock setup with the driver the hands are even with the inside of the lead thigh (as they are with all clubs when playing a standard shot) and our ball position is even with the inside of the heel of the lead foot. This presets a very slight degree of forward shaft lean with the driver. Beyond that, the ball is behind the zero-point of the swing (which is even with the lead shoulder/armpit), meaning that without any contrived manipulations the club will still be on its descent - albeit very close to flat - at impact.
      So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or some of those Long Drive participants teeing it extra high and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - in general the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.5 degrees - nearly level - and it should feel level - but slightly down nonetheless. (Here is an article on Ping’s website addressing this topic - ping.com/en-us/blogs/proving-grounds/optimal-launch-and-spin#:~:text=According%20to%20Trackman%2C%20PGA%20Tour,85%25%20ball%2Dflight%20laws )
      For these reasons I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice have caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.
I have been lurking these Saguto Golf videos for a few weeks now. I'm newly returned to golf after a 20 year hiatus and I have never been a good golfer. I have never understood the synchronization of the lower and upper body before seeing these videos. I used the swing down with my arms, cutting across the ball. The result was horrible, inconsistent contact and a weak shot with zero distance. I've tried Tom's suggestions lately and have seen a dramatic improvement in ball striking, consistency, and length. It hasn't translated to better scores yet, mainly because my short game has let me down. I know I'm on the right track with Tom's concepts...and with a little focused practice, I'll be breaking 100 in no time. Thank you Mr. Saguto!

    3:20 THIS is key and my biggest problem. Thinking I have to actively shift around back and forth. But the problem is, that there is so much error-potential if you shift right + having your mass of arms and the club behind you --> so hard to get it all back to the left fast enough before reaching the low point...

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Lenny,
      Sadly, many well-intended yet misguided teachings of widely accepted "conventional" instruction - such as excessively strong grips, taking the club straight back, turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, firing the hips, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). I’m doing my best here to clear these up, put an end to the madness, and get folks on the path towards consistently crispy, powerful, body-friendly ball striking bliss.
      With specific regard to your stated issue, the need for a weight shift in the golf swing is one of the greatest fallacies ever taught, and it has led many an amateur golfer into the vast abyss of chronic inconsistency and frustration. This system certainly allows for some transfer of pressure into the trail side during the takeaway. After all, we are moving the mass of the arms and club backwards during that initial stage of the swing. Some like to sense the dynamic pressure shifts; others prefer the feel of a gradual increasing of weight load into the lead leg from the start. However, in either scenario the key here is that we do not allow our mass - and thereby our swing center and low point - to drift back at any point. In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight load into the transition (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead, it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.
      My FREE mini course “The Top 3 Things You Need to Be a Great Ball Striker” provides a good starting point as that is where you will learn some key aspects of the swing system I teach in a more structured manner. Here's a link in case you’re interested in checking it out: go.saguto.golf/

    Hello Tom. I am Benny , from Jakarta. I have been following you for couple of years. Your tips in this video give me great results, especially on my irons and hybrid. My question is, do we still stay 60/40 for driver? Because I can hit more solid and more consistent as well on driver if I use your tips in this video, but then difficult for me to swing up. Or for driver, I have to switch back to 50/50 weight distribution on set up?

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Benny - It's essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods. In fact, here is a video of Stack and Tilt co-founder Mike Bennett hitting the driver: th-cam.com/video/7fmtzyH3rsA/w-d-xo.html. It looks very similar to his iron swing, right?: th-cam.com/video/SLjwU_1Cc7o/w-d-xo.html If you do a search on this channel you'll see some content on the driver and fairway woods. Upon learning this swing properly you will be harnessing the tremendous power source known as "angular momentum". This is the reason my students and online school members of all age ranges end up bombing it farther than they ever had previously.
      As for hitting up with the driver, think of proper impact position - hands leading the clubface, bowed front wrist, weight 90% loaded into the lead leg. It'd be difficult to retain those angles if we were actually hitting up on it. So, perhaps with the exception of folks with slower swing speeds - or those Long Drive participants using extra high tees and hitting maybe 1-2 balls out of 10 onto a 60-yard wide "fairway" - the path is still ever so slightly down. In fact, believe it or not the PGA Tour average with the driver is actually minus (e.g.: downward) 1.3 degrees - nearly level but slightly down nonetheless! Thus, I do not advocate trying to hit up on the ball, and efforts to do so due to erroneous advice has caused many an amateur significant issues with their driver.
      So yes - you start with your weight forward (55/45 on the front side; 60/40 for the longer clubs), increase that same weight forward to the top of the backswing (70/30), and further increase the forward weight during the downswing from halfway down (80/20) through impact (90/10) and to the finish at 95/5 forward. If you keep that weight moving forward with the lower body while keeping your head and upper torso in place during the downswing, then the path will naturally shallow and you'll be bombing your driver!
      If you would like to own this swing through your entire bag - learning it at your own pace in a structured and sequential manner - then perhaps you will consider the SagutoGolf online school? Guys, I’ve been working on the techniques from this video. I have one of those accu-shot mats with the grain that shows the spot the club struck and displays in the grain. I went to the range this morning, its a beautiful day in NY and I’m happy to report after about 20 or so half shots like Jess displays in the video, i began to lengthen the backswing. I kept 60-70% of the weight on the left foot, concentrated on left shoulder down and staying down with the chest and I had a fantastic ball striking day. Most of the rest of the strikes here high, straight and far. Just amazing.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are definitely not alone with getting stuck on your trail side, Thomas. Sadly, many misconstrued and/or misguided teachings of "conventional" instruction - such as turning the shoulders level while independently lifting the club, shifting into and torquing against a firm trail side, actively rolling the hands through impact, etc. - have relegated generations of golfers to the vast abyss of chronic frustration (and chronic back/knee/hip pain as well). We're doing our best here to clear these up one by one and put an end to this madness.
      You will likely be amazed at how a centered swing will really crisp up your ball striking. And if you like your initial "weight-forward" experience, then perhaps you might consider the comprehensive, structured learning platform of my online school? Keep your arms straight and keep your weight on your lead leg. It's so simple but I've never seen this advice until this week (watched a similar video with Danny Maude to). I went to my course practice area today and hit 25 pitching wedge shots and 25 8 iron shots and it was a revelation. Gone is the feeling of trying to kill the ball with all of my strength and now it feels so smooth. There were no more fades or slices (I did have four shanks though) and now it's perfectly straight or small draws. Plus perfect divots after the ball! I can't wait to get back to the range!

      A word of caution with regard to watching different videos from various sources: Please be careful in navigating the muddied, overly-complicated, oft-conflicting realm of golf instruction. It's best to commit to a system - whether it be this body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance method or another - put your blinders on, and stick to it. And if it is the system I teach, then please strongly consider enrolling in the online school and taking your learning - and your game - to the next level. That's where - in addition to detailed lessons and drills that take you through the entire swing step-by-step from setup to finish - you'll find diagnostic tools for identifying/resolving swing and ball flight issues when they arise, plus advanced level courses, and much more.

      Yes - it’s essentially the same swing with every club; just some minor setup differences and naturally occurring shaft plane changes as we graduate up in club length from short irons to woods.

    Great lesson! I didn't see it mentioned, but when/how much should the weight on the front leg change? I know this is old so probably won't get an answer, but I'm curious. This helped make my swing more consistent, and I find a slow, deliberate back swing helps (doesn't pull you out of the 'rod through your bod' up-and-down alignment) and straightening my trail knee (a no-no in some articles and a yes-yes in others) really gives me more driving power, stability and keeps me in place.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Scott,
      In the swing system I teach we start with our weight forward (generally 55/45 for the short and mid irons, 60/40 for the longer clubs), gradually add more forward weight to the top (70/30), 80/20 halfway down, 90/10 impact, and 95/5 finish. There's no "weight shift"; instead it's just a gradually increasing load onto the lead side. And the result is a centered, low-maintenance, body-friendly, consistent, and tremendously powerful swing.
      By the way, you can disregard the "no-no's" out there. This body-friendly, powerful, consistent, low-maintenance swing system is designed to provide a lifetime of enjoyment for all golfers, and since it is rooted in physics, geometry, and human physiology it does not discriminate by age or ability - from kids to seniors and everyone in between, inclusive of the best players in the world. As for my teaching of it, thousands of folks across the globe are now enjoying the best golf of their lives as a result of my online school, and I'm happy to let their unsolicited testimonials tell the story: saguto.golf/p/sagutogolfreviews.
      Thanks for your comment and keep up the great work!!

    i love stack ant tilt since your videos Tom one suggestion alot of golfers keep both feet straight at the ball. i notice the left foot is always facing out

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, Brian, having both feet flared out approximately 20 degrees, and the knees similarly angled outward are prescribed setup features of the Stack & Tilt swing system I teach. This orientation provides for an unrestricted 45 degrees of tilted hip turn, at which point we only need to add another 45 degrees of shoulder turn for a full 90 degrees. The result is a centered, stress-free, flowing motion back and through, and a very body-friendly, consistent, powerful swing.

    • @SagutoGolf
      @SagutoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Feel free to send them to info@saguto.golf, Derrick.
      This swing is definitely not just for amateurs!! As I routinely tell folks, watch any Tour event on TV (or in person) and you'll see a significant percentage of players executing these motions, a fact corroborated by just how many of them have their lead arms at or barely above their tilted shoulder planes at the top. And if we were to ask how many PGA Tour major championship winners TILTED, TURNED, and EXTENDED in the golf swing, the answer would be all of them. Stack and Tilt is a golf swing system based on data from the game’s best golf ball strikers. For this reason someone can be embracing key Stack and Tilt elements without being aware of it (or perhaps not wishing to invoke public ridicule for mentioning those "taboo" words... 😎). This is because there are basic requirements that must be met to hit a golf ball consistently on the center of the clubface. There are also components necessary to add power to the golf swing without sacrificing accuracy. The S&T guys determined, based on research conducted on the best golfers of all time along with their in-depth study of The Golfing Machine, that they all had 3 things in common (the 3 main golf fundamentals): 1. Hit the ground in the same spot every time (consistently crispy contact) 2. Have enough power to play the golf course well (distance) 3. Be able to have a predictable curve (accuracy). A player MUST own these three non-negotiables in order to truly be good at golf, and Stack and Tilt provides a road map for executing them incredibly well in a low-maintenance and body-friendly manner. As far as Tour players using 100% of it, 99% of it, 97% of it, or 78% of it, it doesn't really matter because they're ALL doing it to some extent. Those 3 fundamentals never change!
      Thanks,
      Tom
