My dream setup is a heck of a lot simpler. I like working ITB just because I like to get thoughts down very quickly. I'm almost there on mine. Apollo X8, Apollo twin, A7x monitors, iLoud MTM monitors, JBL sub, Korg Kronos 2 88, KK S61, Maschine MK3, Sphere L22 Mics, 500 sq ft control room with 4k projector & roll down acoustic curtains, acoustic panels, custom built wet bar, vocal booth / amp closet, Fender Strat, Fender Jazz Bass. Just want to add X8P, drums, drum mics, 3 more iLoud MTM for 5.1 surround sound work, & have room soundproof renovations done.
A wise man once said "We all have class but very few have taste" Jordan's studio and his sensibility epitomizes that statement! Subscribed to both of you man! Keep up the good work. Much warmth, love and cheers from India.
The sound change as soon as you stepped into the control room was significant and amazing. With a snap of a finger it was tight and sealed. Surprising with that glass and flat walls.
Amazing to see what people acquire and why. I converted my workflow from outboard to 95% in the box and I couldn’t be happier. Gone are the days of maintaining loads of really heavy temperamental gear. For those that disagree and want the racks of vintage gear and vintage hardware... that’s cool, I get it. I was that guy for decades. Honestly the library’s available today are insane and they are increasing daily. I can pretty much find a sample or a model for just about everything, if you really want to invest do so in your room treatment, mics, amps and instruments. Everything else... digital. I love his workflow and his design choices however I would change out a majority of the rack just based on what tools I use and what I’m comfortable with. For those saying lots of money invested... he made smart choices and went heavy where he had too and light where he could. It’s his business, not a home studio for tinkering. Movie scores are good paying gigs but it takes a lot of professional connections and a ton of audio options to stay competitive, creative and flexible. I’m sure he has had to pivot fast with a finicky client who didn’t like the wireframe he laid down. His workflow and gear allows him to accommodate clients fast. I lost a client because it took me too long to setup a killer idea with complicated signal paths. 😂 After 20 minutes of me patching and dialing the client looked at their phone and said goodbye. That was a long time ago and I have since learned not to go full geek mode with a client looking over your shoulder. Have 5 goto setups that you know backwards and forward in that genre and be ready to abandon and move on. Nothing worse the trying to fix the wrong idea. Very cool studio and a great video. Thanks
@@AndrewMasters Please ask your camera man to pan to whatever object/gear you guys are speaking about.. He constantly focuses in on everything besides whats being spoken of.. Other than that, great vid!
Wow, this is the most elaborate home studio I have ever seen! GREAT job with attention to detail. Even down to the way he had the ice machine dispense the ice... absolutely flawless.
The more years i do this, the more I find recording is a form of journaling. The studio for me is not a static place, and memories seem to have a stronger imprint in various places. I think Mark Howard got it right, by setting up in many different places. Jordan has an incredible place, a work of art and money well spent. Thank you for this Andrew. It is great to see someone build things from the ground up. Personally I might struggle with harvesting grit, or random ideas in an environment like that, but completely respect his decisions as they are indeed working for him. He seems very happy and balanced which to me is the most important thing.
This studio is INSANE! Puts my house as a whole to shame. Imagine getting down to the fine detail of soundproofing the ice maker. I can't like this enough!
That is the most epic setup I have ever seen. I was blown away when you got to the KITCHEN! It just got more insane from there. What an awesome dude he is. I love how he is so focused on the artistic side of what he does and keeping things as organic as possible, So inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing this so psyched I found your channel you are just as inspiring keep up the great content!
Best studio tour yet, great detail. Jordan, when he is explaining the modes of the brain (technical and creative) is drawing the difference between the left brain (analytical) and right brain (creative, imagery, expansiveness). Cool to see someone that understands how that works and applies it in his process.
BTW.... I actually like it better when you (Andrew) is behind the camera. Because it makes it feel more like YOUR eyes are OUR eyes... and forces the studio owner to look into the camera a lot more, which makes it feel like he's talking directly to us as well as talking to you. It just feel more like MTV Cribs when you're behind the camera. It also gives a more exclusive feeling when the only time we see you is when YOU are talking directly to us at the beginning of the video. Either way... love the channel. Take care.
Pfff! I've just drooled on my keyboard... what an awesome space! Most of us build a studio-like thing in their homes. This guy just builds a house-like thing around his studio... well done! Thanks for sharing. I have even more stuff to dream about now :-)
52:15 it's called a Hackbrett It was a big part auf Austrian Folkmusic but nowadays there aren't that many people around playing them. Beside that, getting strings for them is a PIA because there are barely any manufacturers left. Here in my country you can find them pretty cheap bet getting new strings on is the expensive part. I do have to do that work occasionally in the reapir shop where I work. Really like the fact that the Hackbretter seem to pop up more often in studios now. Check out the band PERCHTA if you want to hear some traditional stuff (instruments and sagas ) mixed with ( don't tell me I haven't warned you! ) black metal.
Great video. Jordan obviously loves his studio and thinking about ideal workflow, being ready to hit record whenever inspiration strikes. That's the dream.
Not at all surprised of the amount of awesome feedback this studio has. Proper levelled headed geezer, that had my ears pricked through the entire show. High five from Blighty 👋🏾

I just closed mine after I read your comment, Honestly, I think the prep, planning, designing, & building something this intricate to one's personal nuances is what I would enjoy just as much as getting down to business & recording. You can hear it in his voice he's totally relaxed & calm which makes me think how I need to realize what I have & enjoy making music & begin focusing on enjoying life, sound & family starting today.
this was amazing, and i have to say the music is just breathtaking. Just has that serious Sigur Rós and Hammock quality that just hits every perfect note to my ears! It's like, yes music that sounds like that definitely comes from a studio that looks like this.
This is the Ultimate home studio for sure in many aspects! Also, you were on point asking the questions everybody here would like to ask and Jordan was very informative explaining everything in every detail! Thank you!!
This studio is beyond in incredible. This dude is also extremely likable imo. I tend to enjoy the studios, that feel more “ lived in “ if that makes sense, but this place is undeniably fantastic
Jordan is really an engineer, building his own mics, his own gear, but...the most interesting thing he did was --- changing the knobs on one of his pieces of equipment! THAT I can understand on so many levels. Now this is THEE ultimate home studio. Damn. Like a recording studio on the Starship Enterprise.
in my house there is little space, except in the bedroom which was 5.50 meters by 4 meters. so I decided to make an extra space in my bedroom for a home studio. I use the home studio for voice-over and making radio jingles. I started to soundproof the walls first and then extra walls of 15 cm thick and I also made these soundproof. The ceilings are two ceilings above each other and also with sound insulation, the walls and the ceiling and the door are a total of 30 cm thick. now I have a home studio of two by four meters with of course a silent ventilation system. and there is still enough space in my bedroom to place a double king size bed. I am happy with my home studio and this was the only solution, it took me three months to get everything ready on my own.
I have fallen love with the studio and I like the score music he makes and what's important is that he has a decent set of monitors most people have master in gear dynamic processes etc that cost thousands yet their monitoring systems only cost $500 which is ridiculous but this guy has it properly prioritised.
Very Nice and Inspiring Vibe! Cool how he can change the lighting and vibe within the mixing room with either blackout or natural window lighting! The mixing room is a really balanced and sleek design with gear arrangement!
Thanks for doing this tour. One criticism: you need more B roll, or at least some B roll. Many times the studio owner was explaining about something, and we are viewers see it from a distance and can’t see the details we would’ve loved to have seen. This dude gets it. It's so nice to see a guy with a million dollar studio say "it doesn't matter what equipment you have if the song sucks".
But on the other hand, you can make an avarage song sound good with perfect mix and production, and a good song sound bad with bad production and mix.
