Hi mate unfortunately it could just be so many things impossible to say but it could also be your clutch does the noise go or get worse or better if you put your foot on the clutch pedal
Hi, I watch your videos, and have a Zafira 2.pdti 3004, later engine with the egr at the side of the engine, rather that the middle. I had the ecu light come on, andafter putting opcom on it, it Sat's boost pressure sensor, where us this please, as the engine was limping home last night, but started it up today, it wouldn't rev, but then it did, and was fine, but brought three codes up. 1, p0400, 2 p0105, and p0115
I had this happen a few weeks ago, Much black smoke, was still running with key out, luckyly it shut off quickly after i stopped it, replaced the turbo today on it, and started it ran lovly for 5 miniutes, idels nice, then long behold, hits the limmiter , and smoked out around the car coulnt see anything for a few miniutes ah, now looking for new car

I had my Zafira B run away as the DPF dumped Diesel in the engine oil, pretty scary when it redlines itself, i panicked and stalled the car. DPF was removed and cleaned and a full service no problems 3 years after. Mine was the 1.7CDTI Engine
This has just happened to me and was so scary I just turned the ignition off, was absolutely fine until using DPF cleaner and going on the motorway,as soon as I got onto a slower road it went crazy. Its currently in the garage waiting for a new turbo and and oil change 😩
@Zodiac-El Yeah, there was no warning whatsoever my car had atleast 2 litres of diesel in my oil so was severely overfilled 😱 . Car has been OK since as its been a few years. Its pretty scary honestly this happened to me on a dual carriageway

I have this issue at 110,000miles. Had a runaway engine and turbo disintegrated. Got a second had turbo and the oil is pishing through it. Need a bearing seal for it to be grand again but trying to get one is a (bum) whole handling
2013 ecoflex : about 3 weeks ago whilst driving the car suddenly started smoking from everywhere, engine bay , exhaust the lot . managed to get home but then it died , turns out the turbos gone which has seized the engine, only 50 0000 on it. Worst car ever
Hey Leon, a quick question: after a wheel bearing replacement a month ago I recently noticed that the cotter pin on the shaft/spindle nut or whatever, was loose. Is that a worry or can I just ignore it?
GymChess hi mate definitely don't ignore it what I suggest you do is jacket back up and re torque the bolts to factory specs and then keep an eye on it if it still happens you could have a problem with the bolts or the shaft it bolts onto which could end up being a serious problem
Ok thanks. I guess I'll have to contact the shop that did the job in the first place even though it's been a month. Everything works normally. I noticed it yesterday; that the "ring" was loose as well as the cotter pin that supports it. I checked the other side and it was just as it's supposed to. I have no idea how or when it came loose.
In other words 'it's had it'. Runaway diesels are scary, either CO2 fire extinguisher or rag are required. However there is an even more scary one. Older tractors with an oil bath air cleaner. Tractor slips backwards, wheels grip and it starts backwards. This really did happen to a local farm worker in my youth. He jumped off, otherwise most likely killed when the tractor rolled over. Recently a friend had this happen to his LDV recovery vehicle. Got it under control, drove home VERY SLOWLY, fitted another engine. If it happens on modern cars.......RUN.
I hope this thread is still alive I've got exact same issue on my zafira car is in very good condition though , its pissing oil and whining noise from the turbo but still boosting ,I've just parked it up hopefully it gets back to normal once the turbo seal is fixed as it's still boosting fine
Hi love your Channel and videos! Non turbo related but wondering if you can lend your expertise. My left front wheel is squeeling like HELL when I'm driving, however when I brake or steer slightly either side - it completely stops! ( pad wear is even both sides) - with plenty of meat left. Thanks !
batista999 hi mate the easiest thing to do is to jack up the front of the car spin the wheel by hand and find out exactly where the noise is coming from they could be loads of Reason this is happening you could have a stone caught in the dust shield or you might have to completely strip down one side and clean it and make sure everything is running smoothly and is free also you could have a wear indicator touching the disc which is causing it to screech once you've isolated which will it is clean it down properly Greece it's etc see if the noise goes if it does make sure you do the other side to balance it up
batista999 what you need to do is check your dust shield that's the thin piece of metal behind the brake disc it could be rubbing on the brake disc they can easily get bent as you are changing the components
Thanks for the reply. I've already cleaned the whole carrier, calipper, greased the ears of brake pads, and greased slider pins. The wear indicator is nowhere near the disc. HOWEVER when I do a full turn of the disc, I can hear some rubbing noise for 1/4 of the turn. Warped disc ?
batista999 check the dust shield behind the disc make sure that is not rubbing against the disc if the disc is warped you would be getting a heavy vibration through the pedal as you press it
Just checked the dust shield, it's not touching. It seems to be the brake disc and pads which are making this noise together. Uneven disc maybe?. As I said it spins and makes the rubbing noise only 1/4 of the turn, rest of it is smooth. If it was sticking calliper then surely that rubbing would be the whole turn. So do you think it's uneven pads and disc maybe? Thanks
Nope not one bit. I did not know what was going on I had my family in the van and it seemed to act up so I turned the engine off at the start of it and I waited thinking it needed to cool down i never experienced a run away diesel or knew the symptoms of it. Well once I started it back up that's all it took engine rpm shot up and I turned the key off pulled the key out pulled the battery cables nothing worked. At this point I start pulling my kids out the van and get them way ahead of the smoke and van.
@@jesters1gamble201 if it ever happens to you again mate pull the handbrake up put your foot on the brake pedal put it in a high gear ear and quickly fastly pull your foot up off the clutch this will hopefully store the engine with your handbrake and foot still on the pedals it shouldn't go any further and hopefully the engine will stall
Well I know have a automatic transmission diesel. So if there is a next time I am ripping the throttle body hose off and spraying a fire extinguisher into it no sure if a rag stuffed in the throttle body will stop it
Right now I am hunting down whats throwing up p2278 code on my Opel zafira 2006 1.9cdti I will pull the map sensor in the morning and clean it. I had a swivel flap not contacted to its arm I fixed today
Only ever seen 3 runaway diesels, and they've all been Freelander TD4s. Bung a replacement turbo on maybe, but it's unknown what damage all the shrapnel will have done. And then there's the intercooler to clean, probably MAF and MAP to replace...... Costs spiral. Some people need to learn that servicing isn't optional, and that the correct oil matters. I drive a MK1 Zafira 2.0DTI, 270,000 miles on it (432000km) no leaks and uses about 0.5litre of oil in 10,000 miles. Yes it's an Opel engine versus this Fiat engine, but everything lasts much longer if it's looked after, even stuff made by Fiat!
Simon Parkinson yes mate 100percent agree service in regularly and doing preventive maintenance can solve a lot of problems but people don't do this the only come to me when there is a problem trying to tell them to spend money they just say my car is working it's fine😂😂😂
Thomas EXOVCDS yes I know what you're saying but there's a few problems the first one is the car is not in good shape lots more problems and the second one is very difficult to find a good second-hand turbo for these as they all give problems

this could be saved by just replacing the chra cart in the turbo, im surprised of you being a mechanic and scraping this 2007 car, its normal the turbo is knackered, the car has 250k kms
Boom Shaka Laka you don't know anything about the cars history or the customers history the car has more than one problem rather than trying to be clever and smart with your comment you have to think of the customer it would be cost too much money to replace everything that's gone in the car the car isn't worth it
not trying to be funny at all, only problems you said on the video are probably turbo related, and youre also concerned of oil in the inercooler which could be easily cleaned. appreciate your videos, just pissed of that it has not been repaired, it would be much more satisfying to see it on the road again. car should be worth about 2k running so the car cost would be over the car repair price (100 euro/pound for a new chra plus labour) but after all, its the owners decision, just sad to see it going to the scrap. keep the videos coming!
You can't just put a new Cart in and hope for the best and defiantly not a chra cart, cheap Chinese crap it will fail as soon as you go on the road, turbos need rebuilding from the ground up then setting up and balancing and if it's a variable vain turbo as a lot of vauxhalls seem to use them now then it's even more difficult.

Nearly had a merc sprinter run away on me. Managed to stall it just before it went.

Had an 8.3litre Cummins run away on the oil before on a bus at work scary stuff had to stuff a bag of rags in the intake

Another careful owner! Drive it till it explodes! I am sure being proactive and fixing it while it has small problems would have saved it.
