      this is very normal to fog up as normal it is for users who find out and won't buy it due to this issue lol
      Instead of acknowledging, fixing manufacturing and re-assuring customers by providing service for this / demonstrate new batches to be fixed, they rather keep silent, simply bad customer service and deserves people to buy Vivo x100 pro or x100 Ultra instead!

    I don't like Authentic mode because it vignets the image and in some cases makes it excessively pale in some colors (although not in all of them, greens for example are still intense). I also don't like Vivid mode because it over-saturates and has worse textures. In general, another thing I don't like very much is that the images have so much contrast, the shadows are too dark for my taste.
    The solution I have found to obtain a processing more in line with my taste is to use the PRO mode with the Vivid profile as a base, and then apply a custom profile that I have recorded with personal contrast, saturation and sharpness settings. That way I have, by default, a more natural and neutral processing that I like more, they look like they come from a camera instead of a cell phone. Obviously I can modify it later as the scene demands, but as a base it seems better to me. One detail to keep in mind is that each camera has its particularities and even with the same processing profile applied, the result is somewhat different: some look more contrasted, others less, some are sharper, others less, etc. It can be a little difficult to find a middle ground that works for all.
    Furthermore, by activating the option to keep settings, I can enter and exit the app as many times as I want, and it is still as I left it the previous time, so that I always have it in PRO mode with my personal settings.

      Awesome tips, thanks! A lot of this really comes down to personal taste, doesn't it? I personally prefer when shadows keep a bit of their mystery, but I totally get what you're saying-sometimes it bugs me too. And absolutely, the initial results have to be on point. I'm not big on tweaking photos later either. It should just look great straight out of the camera, right? That's what I love about my Fujifilm.

    i had mine from china, i live in hot climate, the phone gets VERY hot under sun light, and after taking 5 or 7 pictures the phone starts stuttering and a message says turning off camera to decrease temperature, also under no sunlight the phone overheats faster when using the camera (usually it happens to me when using in architectural use, take picture of interiors and exterior) ANOTHER problem is battery drain is crazy, i have the Chinese version 5300mah battery and it doesn't last me a day, thanks to the fast charge it can manage but only if you're fine sticking it to the wall every 5 hours or so ... other than that the phone is great .. glad the condensation issue wont happen to me haha

    Any comment on the shutter lag on Xiaomi 14 Ultra? DXOmark reports around 300-500ms latency from pressing the button to taking the photo. Have you had a chance to test this on moving subjects? This is a known issue on samsung, but the first time I see it reported on this Xiaomi
    This is pretty important for people with pets/kids or anyone doing action shots

    • @konkurentLC

      I currently have a 14 Ultra, before that I had a Vivo x100 Pro, although I didn't measure it professionally, but right after the first photos I noticed that the Xiaomi is slower in this. In good light it is almost imperceptible (and feels same like Vivo), but a little dimness is enough and the lag is noticeable there. On all lenses. I pressed the shutter with the Vivo and the photo was immediately even on the telephoto in the evening. Even in night shot, when I try to capture sky, in Vivo it took about 1 sec, on Xiaomi it took 3 sec and change black night sky into blue one... Today I was in skatepark during the day and try to shoot some teenagers on roller skate, I turn on even "motion capture" and don't have one clear shot from that, guys was always blurry. Unfortunately I didn't try this with Vivo.

      @@konkurentLC How's ur experience with both bro ? Can you share more details about the avg Battery Backup, SOT & heating of both phones ? Also did u face any other issues in both ? Currently confused between both.

    • @konkurentLC
      @konkurentLC 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@movieshubtop5301 honestly it is really hard to tell which one is better. I spent about a week with both of them, and in that time you don't get to know all their features completely.
      I returned both, because I'm still waiting for the Xperia 1VI to arrive so I can try that one too, even though I don't give it much of a chance, and I'll probably return permanently to either Vivo or Xiaomi, but honestly I can't decide which one, both have its benefits and cons.
      As for the battery, I found it better in Vivo, Xiaomi has a smaller battery and a higher resolution display, plus the use of the camera takes away from it really quickly. Likewise, charging was faster on the Vivo, with the Xiaomi I didn't have the feeling that it was running at 100% power all the time. I had around 5 hours of SOT on the Vivo, but it should be taken into account that I tested it quite intensively the whole time and took a lot of photos, with normal use it probably wouldn't be a problem to get over 6 and half hours. With Xiaomi, I can't say that, because the system does not show the SOT since the last charge, but only for the given day. But when I took it out to take pictures, and I left the car with 100%, after 4 hours outside (of which 57 minutes of using the camera) I only had 33%, and most of the time when I wasn't taking pictures, the phone was in my pocket.
      I didn't notice heating on either of them, except for the initial setup, where both felt a bit warm in the hand, but I don't play games, so I can't judge there.
      Things that are better on Xiaomi - display, front design with minimal frames that are symmetrical, it looks really beautiful, significantly better speakers, better placed fingerprint scanner, 4k 120 fps video, Leica Authentic mode, for me a big plus was the built-in "Reels creation" in the gallery, which instantly turns 20 photos into a short video ready to share on social networks, for me it's great that there is a variable aperture, flawless AoD
      What I didn't like about Xiaomi - the "leather" back cover, I had the phone for a week and I could already see a slight abrasion on the corner (I use the phone without a case), the split notification bar for notifications and quick settings, "ADs" basically everywhere in the system (when you want to add widget, it feels like you are on Aliexpress site and only hiden in the middle you found "system widgets", basically unusable portrait mode, and not so good battery life
      and some little things - doesnt' had a double-tap to lock screen and split screen in landscape mode only works in a 50:50 ratio, it cannot be changed, "magic eraser" cannot be compared with the one from Samsung
      What was good about the Vivo x100 Pro (global version with FuntouchOS) - the phone is slightly slimmer, so it fits better in the hand, I'm a fan of curved displays, so this was also a plus for me, glass back, more resistant to usage, despite several not so much good reviews, I really liked FuntouchOS in general, I could set everything I needed there, for me it's probably the closest to Samsung's OneUI, but it has less bloatware, perfectly functioning splitscreen, cameras that never disappoint, like every shot, it's a great photo, perfect Vintage filter in the portrait mode (I also used it for street photography with the background blur turned off), super fast charging
      What I didn't like about Vivo - asymmetric frames in the corners of the screen, detail, but compared to Xiaomi it can be seen immediately, the speakers could have been better, the battery life was better than Xiaomi, but it does not hold up to Oneplus12 / Honor Magic6 Pro, even I think the S24 Ultra has better battery life, the video could have been 4k 120 fps, and just like the Xiaomi's, the "magic eraser" is not very useful, plus compared to the Xiaomi, I lacked the ability to quickly create "reels" from photos, one more detail with AoD, it is possible to set "notifications" only for 4 applications, I didn't understand why...
      as for any general bugs that are mentioned on some reviews, I didn't come across them, no fogging of the lenses or anything like that appeared, but I tested it in temperatures above 25°C and what I heards lens fogging is mainly issues in cold weather
      sorry for the long answer, but I hope I summarized it somehow, if you are interested in anything else, feel free to ask

      @konkurentLC 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@movieshubtop5301 oh I forgot 2 things, ultrawide lens is much wider on Xiaomi if this is something what you are interested and night photos on Vivo are perfect but it changes night black sky into dark blue, on Xiaomi in Leica Authentic is more realistic black😅

      But the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is a really expensive phone, and you're really paying for that Camera Tech mostly.
      Don't you think it's far better to get say a midrange Pixel phone, and decent Camera like a Ricoh Gr3, to take more professional photos with much better hardware.Etc?
      I would say it ends up roughly the same price as the 14 Ultra?

    • @JMTMarc

      That's a tough question! A Google Pixel in combination with a Ricoh is certainly brilliant. With Xiaomi, you also have the advantage of having very good telephoto lenses. However, without ever having used the Ricoh, I think it's superior to the Xiaomi if you know how to edit the pictures to get the best out of them.

    My 14 ultra also have the lens fogging issue. When i contacted the xiaomi they say it's a natural phenomenon.

    • @JMTMarc
      @JMTMarc  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, that's what they tell everyone who contacts them. It's really a sad state of affairs. As I mentioned in the video, yes, lenses can fog up from the inside when you come from an indoor space and it's very cold outside, or if you hold something cold against the glass, especially when there's a significant temperature difference. However, the condensation on the 14 Ultra occurs even with very small temperature differences. Therefore, it's not a normal phenomenon, as far as i'm concerned.

    • @neilmcguinness4422
      @neilmcguinness4422 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It most certainly isn't a natural phenomenon. Xiaomi have let moisture in to devices at some stage of the construction/assembly process. It is awful quality control. I would never give my hard earned money to Xiaomi.

    Very disturbing regarding not only build quality, but Xiaomi's inability (though this is as you say shared by other manufacturers) refusal to take responsibility and their trying to claim it's 'normal'. Obviously this is their absolute top-of-the-range and will cause God knows what expense to them to recall and fix, not to mention if they have even yet identified exactly how the phenomenon is occurring on this unit and a permanent solution. But you don't build a loyal customer base by this sort of behaviour. I have a Xiaomi 14 Ultra and am very pleased with it so far. Camera is phenomenal. I have not had this issue and touch wood, will not experience this issue, but even if it's only, say, one out of three phones that have this, totally unacceptable.

      I conducted tests on multiple smartphones, and they all developed condensation on the lens when there was a significant temperature difference between the inside and outside of the lens. By placing a cold object on the lens glass, every smartphone exhibited condensation. My only wish would be that you didn't get subjects of which you have to cover their faces, as face rendering of the subject in photo is very much of interest to people buying this phone, if we cant see facial softness, eye colour reproduction and tiny details such as hair rendition, we can not judge from your photos how do human subjects look like. I am sure there is plenty of people out there would would be happy to be on the photos, they are plenty of those who love to pose for the camera, this should not stop you from providing comparhenssive display of examples. I was excited about the Xiaomi 14 as I’ve seen some of the macro shots people have taken with it and I do a lot of macro photography. But the fogging issue puts me off completely. I’m not going to gamble £1,000+ on hoping I get one that doesn’t have that issue. So for now I’ll stick with Samsung even though it doesn’t have true macro.

    First of all, sorry I was rude. It's just that you seem to have a serious problem with this phone and I don't agree with some of your points:
    • About your condensation issue, if temperatures change suddenly, there will be some condensation / misting on ANY lens, including pro-lenses. I have dealt with this right through my photography career when coming out of AC rooms in summer and not leaving the lens out well in advance. You have to be careful about this with ANY lenses. It doesn't take long to clear up though, maybe you got a faulty piece? But definitely avoid radical temperature changes where possible. And if it persists then yes, there is a problem.
    • Your observation on display colour is not correct. The display is excellent. There are FOUR different colour settings under Display and brightness > Color scheme > (ie) Original colour PRO, Vivid, Saturated and Advanced. You can choose sRGB (best) and even fine tune the RGB channels individually IF you know what you're doing! It is the best display I have ever had on a phone, the brightest too! More accurate than the iPhone 15 Pro Max as it can be pro-calibrated, as I have done. I've matched it to my monitor, which is hard calibrated and it's perfect (at the correct brightness level of course)
    • The battery is 'okay', certainly not bad. If you consider all that this phone can do, fast, it's fine. I have every setting turned on for best performance, refresh rate, resolution etc Every time I click, I edit in Lightroom, which is a battery guzzler! I also do EVERYTHING on my phone! From calls, photos, videos, (editing those sometimes) creating documents, mail, social networking and more and it lasts me through the day... most days. AND of course it charges so fast with even my 30W PPS charger that even if it runs low, it makes little difference.
    • The phone does heat up slightly when you use it for a while. Again, this is with all phones running this CPU. But you cannot feel the warmth through the case so use speakerphone for 10 minutes! Some other phones heat up even while charging, this one doesn't. I agree it isn't perfect but which phone doesn't heat up slightly? None...
    • Re taking photos and videos, I do that all the time and it takes no more battery than any other phone. Which is a fair amount I agree but again, any phone...
    • Then you call that sexy camera bump a "monstrosity". Your preferred aesthetics are not facts. You consider OneUI beautiful, to me that is an eyesore, though efficient! And did you not see the size of the camera bump before you bought this? You can tell by the photo that it would be top heavy.
    • As for it sitting at an angle because of the camera bump, this is incredibly useful (even better in a case). as it ensures the lenses don't touch the surface it's on. It acts as lens protection.
    • Your observations about the camera are positive but you've shown some over sharpened (by you) images, that are misleading. This camera does not over-sharpen so you have given an inaccurate description of the camera. Sadly for some, it is rarely a 'click and send' camera. Till you get the settings right, the images do need a little editing as they can be contrasty and slightly saturated in the auto modes. You can do it at a basic level in Photos in 2 minutes. Open up the shadows a bit and adjust saturation, to taste and your display setting! (sRGB is the Web standard btw so the best setting. If you want to, you can do a lot more too which I like. Xiaomi have left lots of headroom for editing. It is an exceptional camera system and it will get better with updates and familiarity. It isn't perfect but it's very good. You can't however, do 15X in low light!
    Bottom line, this is a negative review and somewhat inaccurate. This phone has only one MAJOR shortcoming. It is perhaps too simple, with not enough features. Not even close to what my Pixel 6 Pro has! To be honest, I really miss those features! However for me, the camera is everything and this is even better than the Pixel 8 Pro (processing aside) so I guess I can live with less features and hope they improve HyperOS. Make no mistake, this is a "camera phone" and what a camera it is! For stills it has a Pro mode with 4 fixed lenses which is deadly accurate! 4K video too looks very good. The phone is a looker! Makes one sad to slap a case on it. The camera bump, the build quality, the styling, the all around bevel... beautiful. It's heavy but I love that bit of heft. It's part of it's truly premium feel. Ultra. For sure!

    • @JMTMarc
      @JMTMarc  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Which video did you watch? Certainly not mine. I didn't say anything bad about the display. I think the display is fantastic. The battery life is worse compared to other smartphones (Honor Magic Pro, Vivo X100 Pro), but I still manage with it. All the photos are unedited and none of them are oversharpened. I have no idea what you saw. I also mentioned several times in the video how amazing the camera is and how much I generally love the phone. The review is not negative in any way.
      Regarding condensation: I've been photographing for 20 years and I understand how condensation forms. However, the phenomenon with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra is that condensation forms inside the glass with very slight temperature differences, and it doesn't require sub-zero temperatures outside. This is well documented on the internet on Reddit and various forums. I also mentioned that the problem has resolved for me.

    • @JMTMarc
      @JMTMarc  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Modern smartphones can be complex, requiring configuration for easier use, such as larger fonts and icons, and fewer apps, especially for older users. Depending on your father's needs, consider smartphones designed specifically for the elderly, featuring large keys and limited functionality. If he primarily needs basic accessibility, a child profile on a mid-range smartphone, priced between $300-$500, might suffice.

    Nice review, you've covered all the key points. I just recently got a Xiaomi 14 and had the condensation happen within 10 mins of unboxing!
    Have you done any head to head comparisons with the standard Xiaomi 14?
    I've never experienced condensation on any phone or camera before, even in subzero temperatures so it's very disappointing.
    This happened inside at 22° and 60% humidity, so not cold and not very wet either!
