  • I bought a shaft and a liner from a used parts store and made a drill guide. This allows for accurate drilling on workbenches and walls. Equipped with two handles, it can be used in various ways. The handle uses wenge wood and walnut.

I do not usually watch this type of video all the way through without at least fast forwarding big chunks, however, watching this guy working and the results he obtained were worth watching it in its entirety. Excellent product, and being able to use it in more than one plane is so very practical. My congratulations.

Sincere congratulations for your very nice design.
If you allow me, I would only add three humble suggestions to your already excellent design:
    1) Draw two reference lines to the base, so that you can align the drill bit to a ruler, for example.
    2) You could add a routed groove or rabbet across the base, to grab a transversal sliding wood or metal strip, that strip can have a vertical pin that can serve as an spacing guide to produce a series of equally spaced holes. That strip can also work as a "T-Ruler" to keep the base at a constant distance from an edge. The strip will need a setscrew to keep the adjustment.
    3) Taking the idea from two commercial drilling guide designs, you could add a pair of removable pins under the base, so that those can CENTER the drillbit at the center of a long part (like those accesories that use two pins to "stradle" to locate the centerline of a door edge, for example).
    4) Adding a little LED light will make it easier to see where to place the drillbit tip, on those older hand drills that lack a light.
Many people (like me!), will not have access to quality steel guides and bushings to build this guide... But you can suggest the potential builder to use some discarded Automobile or Motorcycle SHOCK ABSORBERS or suspension dampers, that have undamaged chromed steel shafts. Those are perfectly rectilinear and polished, and the bushings can be obtained from the very same parts.
I don't know how to add some pictures, so I hope my suggestions are understandable!
    Best wishes from Mexico City.

I am absolutely hooked on your channel!! Your videos are fantastic quality, and you are such a talented craftsman. You’ve given me so many amazing ideas for my workshop. May I ask how you keep the drill running while you’re using this? Usually you need to hold the trigger down. Perhaps this is one where you don’t need to do that? Thanks again for your amazing videos and inspiration. Deb from Australia 🇦🇺

I will also get strength from such good comments and work hard on my work. The answer to the question is this.
This drill has a button that locks the operation.
Also, the speed control dial is conveniently located on the trigger.
      Then we'll see you again.

Another great jig build; THANKS!> The dust port was inspired. What did you use for guide rails/bushings? Also, i would love to see a router base build; one that can hold a guide bushing, since most of the bases on trim routers can not.
A router base of similar shape as this drill guide base, with same or similar dust port would be great. Thanks again for sharing such great ideas, and finding ways to make your builds differ from everyone else's.~ 🔨Lisa♿

    • @carpentak
      @carpentak  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The shaft and bushing used for the guide rail were purchased from a used parts store. So I don't know the source. The router base is made simply by turning the plunge base of a Bosch router upside down. It is shown in detail in this video, so if you haven't seen it, check it out.
