One of the hardest things a Filipina will have to do is MANAGE EXPECTATIONS, hers/HER FAMILY'S/friends. Just because a foreigner has money does NOT mean they do and they are NOT entitled to it. A relationship can be just as easily destroyed by her actions/behaviors as it can by her family/friends. When meeting a Filipina, one of the things you need to talk about right up front is both of your intentions and EXPECTATIONS, if BOTH of you don't agree and stick to them, you need to move on early before it becomes a serious relationship. If you give, you are setting a precedent you will always give, and it'll become more and more. You don't reward poor behavior in a child, why would you do it with adults that aren't financially responsible for themselves? A family that expects you to pay for the "privilege" of dating their daughter makes them nothing more than pimps and their daughter a prostitute. If that's what you are looking for, just go to Angeles City and rent a woman for the night, it'll be cheaper.

That is the mindset in the Filipinos and Filipinas. They don't care about foreign husband or bf. Its your money 💰 and your status in the west they are interested in. Most of them, anyway not all of them to generalise all Filipinos. Everything Gio is saying 100%. Gold digger and exploitation mindset in The Philippines. That's why I avoided Cebu like a plague in since 2014

Hi Gio, I had the same experience in Thailand with the same woman twice! And I sat there through the bbq into the afternoon and I could see the way this was going family would turn up from everywhere! Then when I returned to the uk I said I'm not doing this anymore because every time I come to see you I end up paying for everything even though I am the guest! Like you happy to make a contribution but not for everything.
However my very nice older Filipina lady now is totally the opposite and I'm very happy!
Congratulations on your wedding and hope you both have a successful happy life together!
    Regards David

I do understand and appreciate your comments. I married a girl from Bacolod in 1973.
I was in the military. All this happened to us but on a smaller scale.
I will not even visit the Philippines, Nor ever move back. Relatives still ask my wife for the moon.
We have given them a fortune over the years.
I care deeply for my wife but, her family is draining her!
Congratulations on your marriage! Maya seems perfect!

My experience through online conversations is that when a Filipina says “help me with this or that”, it generally means taking full financial responsibility of the whole thing. Help me generally means pay for the whole thing.

I have had a few experiences like that happen to me. You are right, a foreigner here has to ask a lot of questions when invited to events. Sadly, hospitality comes with a price sometimes.Back home when we get invited to someone's family get-together we would not expect to be handed the bill.

I'm glad I watched this video! My fiance and I are planning an engagement party in Jan/Feb in Camotes. To cure this situation.. Ive already told her how much we can/will spend. I'm leaving the responsibility to her to budget. She's a smart woman and understands that the amount I set is all we have to spend. We'll see how it pans out.. ;)

  • @WineSippingCowboy

Similar story. I argued against a Filipina. She would often think that she MUST go to an event every time she is invited. I went with her a few times. I declined the rest of the invitations. She berated me on some of my rejections.
I pointed out that a number of Filipinos will lock on to her pattern. Then, they take advantage of her. She proved me right ✅
She pulled the tampo BS on me. I chewed her out. All that FU melodrama that I see in Latinas in a Telenovela came from her! 🙄 She was in the Sadness phase of Kubler Ross. After the 20th time, she accepted what I said.
    Lesson 1: invitation =/= obligation.
Corollary 1. Filipinos are similar to Latinos. You marry 1 = you marry the family 👪.
Lesson 2. Set the limitations early. When the Pinay tests it, drop her like a drop of the hat 👒. She gotta follow what fellow San Francisco native 🌁 Clint Eastwood said 50 years ago 🎂 in Magnum Force, "A man has got to know the limitations."

I don't agree, better to know before hand and draw boundaries. If the boundaries are not respected then let them loose. Many Filipinos are on the make (oppotunists), I was in Malate on a Saturday night, just exploring, there was an open air bar and band so being hot I stopped for a beer. I sat down and ordered a beer insisting on paying for it on arrival rather than running up a tab. So a group of Filipinos on the next table invited me to join them, I politely declined. 1. Don't run up tabs where you lose track of what you have ordered, 2. Be wary of the kindness of strangers unless you are happy to be left paying for the entire groups night out drinking. You work out pretty quickly that the majority of people who approach you unsolicited are on the make and you being a foreigner look like the most likely sucker. Cheers Aussie John

Here is the filipino way from my observations and my history of dealing with the Philippines 🇵🇭 since 1999. I have a quote I made up for my dealings here: " If the money 💰 ain't flowing, I ain't going"!! In other words, you have to come correct with the funds if you want any chance of fun!! I, too, almost got scammed, but put a quick stop to it before it happened, I call it " The bus going to Manila scam" I saw through it and said a big " NO" ! I will leave it that on this forum. They will try you hard and really expect you as a " big money foreigners" to comply and just give in, no matter what!! Like Nancy Reagan said, " Just say "No", no truer words have been spoken, especially for a place like the Philippines. Trust me!! Congrats G man and Maya on your recent nuptials, wish all your future endeavors 2gether are great and adventurous.❤🎉😊!! A lot has been going on in my world and not all gravy, B'lieve dat! All be blessed, safe, healthy, happy, aware, smart, prosperous, and great(compassionate). Much love to all, especially the newly weds and Princess daughter!! Trudat!! Real talk&Nuff!! Thurl G money smooth ( a lot of my nicknames combined) ghost, roger out, peace y Adios 🙏!! Lol!! 😂❤🎉🎉🎉🎉

If you're a newbie, and if someone asks you to pay for something, just say that you only have P500 or P1000 for your own fare, max 3000 or any amount you are willing to give (even if you are carrying more than that).
If they insist just stick to your story and say I'm sorry this is the only cash I have, you should have told me earlier before we left.

It wouldn’t matter how many questions you asked or what information you got, many times the answer will be yes to you. Then comes the truth after the fact. If a girl pulled that shit with me it would be done as soon as the party ended. My gf has never pulled that crap with me. Her family has never coaxed her into anything and they barely have a pot to piss in. But because of me, and the help her parents give my gf with our daughter, they live pretty well off on my expense, and I don’t mind one bit. My daughter loves having her Mala and Palo around.

It was probably wise to just go along in that situation because it doesn't just affect the family it affects the people who cooked sold and delivered the roast pig. Me too..! Back in my 1st trip to the Philippines Christmas 2000'.. on leave from the Navy and on a whim, I had a San Diego travel agent set up a 10 day trip. I was 34, fit, fresh faced, good looking and naive. NO BIG DEAL.. but I wasted or was taken advantage of to the tune of $500 by a Filipina and her family during 5 days in Pangasinan. "Lesson learned".. and who knows, maybe a valuable lesson that saved my money on later trips. Now.. 2023'.. I'm 57.. no longer young, no longer good looking and no longer naive. I am absolutely scam proof. haha true

My ex Filipina fiancee is educated and all her siblings have good jobs in The Philippines they are from a big family clan on one of the Mindanao Islands. The wanted my money and to control my movement and itinerary in The Philippines 🇵🇭. Coming from the UK that is not going to happen and when their ridiculous expectations crossed my red line I told my ex to go f herself. These are well off middle class Filipinos it was disgusting. Only the Uncle of my ex fiancee had the decency and honesty to expose my ex fiancee he told me be careful and not to rush and marry her and they threatened him in my presence. After that encounter I cut that relationship off back in 2014. So don't tell me it's "Poor Filipinas". It is nothing but GREED some middle class Filipinas and her family especially the so call "Mother In Law" my ex fiancée's Dad easy going nice man but he has been totally emasculated by his wife.

Even Filipinos who go back to the Philippines are annoyed with the culture you just described. The people there especially relatives expect you to pay for everything when you visit them. Even those who are not related to me are expecting me to pay for everything just because I came from the US. Not only that, they borrowed money and you will never know when are they going to pay back. The government there should really do something to create jobs so that people stop being leach with no shame. They should also educate people to only have kids that they can afford since lots of kids are begging on the streets or working early instead of being a kid.

I also remember the very first time I stayed in Moalboal. The resort provided a van from Macyan airport to resort and I think that was only 3.5k. 5 or 6k sounds a bit high. Bringing your own transportation, you'll always have an out.

I just had one ask 22.000 pesos for some stuff, I’ve been talking to her for only 2 weeks, very pretty but, red flag so I flushed here. So, thanks a lot guys for the warnings you give us newbies.

A friend invited me to her birthday party at her parents home. this would be the first time I will meet her family....When I arrived at 6pm a group of people were gathered outside around a table singing karaoke and sharing a bottle of Emparador.... I soon realized that the bottle would be empty in another 30 minutes and that it was the only alcohol available ....there was also a small bowl of pancit in the kitchen and that was all the food they had for the forty people that were there .....now I realized why I was invited to the party that was supposed to last until the next morning ....I was suppose to be the one to pay for the food and drink for every one there ....surprise. Calmly I gave the bd girl P2000P and told her I was leaving because I was not feeling well .....lesson learned.....next time I am invited to a celebration I will respectfully decline because of other plans made at that time and offer a donation to help make the event a success.

Perhaps that is the price of being a decent human and being trusting, sometimes you get burned. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me.

I wonder if you could avoid this by asking her beforehand "Do I need to bring any money to this event?" And if she says no, then call her bluff with "Ok, I'm going to leave my wallet at home then." That way, if she knew you were gong to be expected to pay for anything, she'd have to tell you then. And if she didn't know it but then the family did end up expecting it, you could put it on her with "Sorry, she told me to leave my wallet at home."

When you are a newbie, how do you know the right questions to ask? You just get stuck, but what if you told them you only had 1000 pesos on you at the time? I got caught sort of like that on my first trip to the Philippines. I was in Maasin, Leyte on my last night on my trip after meeting a girl on line. She ask me lets go out for dinner for our last night together. I said ok, lets do it. So I was to meet her at the restaurant at the motel I was staying at. That night I go to the restaurant to meet up with her and then at the table, I noticed 8 more people with her. Well guess what, I had to pay for everyone's meal. Left a sour taste in my mouth and it was only about 60 dollars, but still, no communication, no heads up, but I didn't ask her, was it just the two of us.

    Greetings
I've never met a bad Filipino
    Been there many times
Never cheated robbed scammed heart broken
    Guess good luck BUT
    I won't retire there
    Why not ?
    It's too hot humid typhoons
    Gasoline gas electricity food
Too expensive due to high taxes
    Red tape beaurocracy
Food quality and selection bad unhealthy
    Loud crowded stinky
    Kids begging depressing
    Constant power failures slow Internet
You lose rights voting gun freedom of speech and can't own land and you pay immigration for this privilege
I never eat fast food but wanted to try cheese burger at mc Donald's
Omg was that meat ? Just awful
Again I like Filipinos I admire how they survive with such low wages. there is a reason there are 10 million living abroad and millions more trying to escape

It was one family member, that the rest of the family didn’t like or trust, who manipulated, lied, and orchestrated about 8000 pesos, that ultimately came from my pocket. Stupid B. Stupid me. Like you said the answer is to ask questions and always be on the watch for being used. Always ask who is going? Who’s paying for this?

Unfortunate story. That's why if one of our relatives will meet and greet their foreigner we not will join them. Because we will avoid the empression of just aftering the money. The foreigner husband or bf our relatives coming here in the Phil we will not visit their home. We will keep away ourselves from them. We do not want to be there extra expense. If we met them we just simply say hi to our relatives but not to attached. Because when it comes to money we know how vuluable it is. It's not easy to earn it. We need to work hard for it.

Lol…. Basically the girl traded a few hundred dollars for what could have been a long term relationship. Some people are very short sighted. That’s one reason why some Filipinos continually struggle. They trade a little money now for what could be a good long term thing. My girlfriend, who lived in the Philippines until she was 14, gets scammed like this too so don’t feel too bad. She’s purchased land from “relatives” and “friends” that was way overpriced. Fortunately for her, the land has greatly increased in value right after. The first time that I visited the Philippines with my girlfriend, her great uncle threw a big party for us. There were 3 roasted pigs and probably at least 30 guests (family, relatives, friends, etc…). He did pay for everything, but I guess that I could have been easily scammed just like you were.

Sorry to hear you got scammed Gio, it happens to everyone. But honestly you got off cheap, 10,000 php ? I got scammed by buying my ex filipina gf a new motorbike because she needed transportation to school....guess what, she didn't know how to ride it but her brother did and he wasn't going to teach her to ride so basically it was his now ! Not to mention all the $$$ I gave her family and the fact her brothers didn't work and had no desire to.....and get this, the last straw, she wanted me to buy land there and build a house ! Yeah right, so her brothers could move in....( I know foreigners can't own land in the Philippines ) they would most likely kick me out ! Needless to say we broke up, now she's some other foreigners problem. You got off cheap Gio , scams are everywhere in the Philippines.....just let the foreigner pay for it because he's rich ! The old saying....live and learn.....if you don't " learn" in the Philippines you'll either be broke, in jail, or dead. Been there, done that. Congrats on your marriage Gio, you and Maya make a great couple !
