Thanks💪🏼 I just blew mine up chasing hogs in brownwood this weekend. Looks like I’ll be searching for a new rear end now. Your Favorite glass guy David
Hey mowermedic i recently purchased a 1990 ezgo marathon electric and was wondering what kind of oil you use in the rear diff/axle 30wt oil or 80w90 gear oil.
2010 48v rxv. Mine appears to be stripped out at the input shaft of differential. Removed motor and can feel gears stripping past each other on top of diff when I turn with channel locks. Prob no fix for that either?
Almost every time I put it in reverse on a slope a little steeper than flat ground something in the rear part of the golf cart pops? Could you help me out?
Not that you would do it, but, would it be possible to stick weld the axle in place to the gear? You obviously wouldn’t be able to get it out after that, but it may fix it for a while…
I'd weld her up being it's useless anyways and at least make it a solid axle mini spooled rear lol! It may last a minute or like the craftsman tractor I did, outlasted the rest of the tractor itself used for plowing wet heavy northeast snowfalls for many many seasons on top of helping do the neighborhoods driveways as well. With welding a gear, it's a craps shoot weather or not they'll become hardened and brittle from the centralized heat of the welds, I think because we did the spider's and axles all at the same time, this helped fully connect everything for a much slower heat dissipation than just doing a couple teeth and calling it good. Doing it that way I found you'll explode the spider's eventually from shocking them in any manner with power or traction. Otherwise replace the whole thing, used. It's not often you see this happen with those Dana built rear ends? I've been though many on all sorts of projects and even with more than 3-4 times their intended power purpose with much larger engines and taller wheels, I've never been able to blow one up! Unfortunately you got lucky with a bad batch of either gears or axles that were miss heat treated it appears..... Good luck man!
Obviously, those axle splines were gone, but is it more common to shear the hubs before the axels go? My understanding that on these carts, the hubs are also splined and are the weak point to prevent this failure. Any comment on why your diff failed before the hubs went?
I guess I mispoke there, it wasn't the diff that failed, but the axle splines and spider gear splines failed. Sorry I was unclear. I dug into mine a bit more and hubs are solid and the slip/grinding happening inside the diff. Suspect mine looks a lot like yours.
My 36v will skip and even jerk a little after hitting a bump. Usually tree roots or something enough to make the rear end jump. After that it starts acting like the rear differential is locked when I try to turn and it skips and then cuts itself off. Any idea if this could be the early stages of what you’ve got going on there? 👆
awesome video! I am making an electric 48v powered trailer that will weigh 600 lbs total with gear. How much do one of these differentials weigh with a pair of wheels and motors approximately? What is a good place to buy them or get one used? I live in charlotte, nc. Thanks so much for your informative videos.
I’m also curious about welding the diff up in one. I’ve just never seen it done. Same gear setup as a regular vehicle differential so I don’t see why not...
My EZ go creeps forward and back and vibrates now, earlier I had to get out and push it to make it move normally. The problem was intermittent, sometimes it ran fine. Now it does not. What should I look for?
MrMalibug I don’t think that my problem in this case. I can jack up the rear end and have the tires off the ground and she will flat out roll! The battery tested well when I put volt meter on them, plus I have a gauge that reads the battery output and it’s showing full capacity. The cart shakes and shimmers trying to move forward even with no one in it. I’m leaning more towards worn gears or something along that lines. Thanks for the reply and you can keep your rear end intact 😂😂😂!!
I bought a 36 volt ezgo golf cart on the off chance I could use the motor to repower my boat. I want to open it up and see if the brushes are in good shape or if they need replacing. I haven’t found anything on that yet. Do you have a video on replacing brushes you could share with me? I have a used spider gear that appears to be in good condition along with the rest of the axle. I was thinking of repurposing it but if anyone needs ezgo parts get at me.
I have a 2006 ergo txt and have replaced the brain/controller, solenoid, inductive switch and the little switch next to it and the batteries and it still won’t go. Some tell me to replace the ignition switch. Is it really that easy?
My EZ-go 36 V drive system makes a loud back lashing noise whenever the car is moving, but there is no load on the drivetrain in coast mode or going down a hill. It only last until I load or demand torque from the DC motor, then it gets quiet again and the gear noise goes away. . Any idea on what is worn out in my gear train?
2002 electric ezgo ...drivers side azle bearing history chewed up azle. Splines are not spun out. I know I will need a used azle. If bearing is still in housing will housing need replaced after removing rings. Does anything else hold azle splines into differential or does it slide in if splines are good?
Friend drop off his golf cart today wanting me to fix it. So I jaced it up off the ground and hit the gas nothing happened. So I rolled the wheels and I heard a grinding sound and it started to spin. Then stoped and I couldn't get it to do it again. Do you think he needs a rear end?
Hi, I have this problem on my ezgo, I removed both axles and they are in perfect order , can you tell me what might be the problem I have not opened up the rear end . Thanks ***
Hi .. Question this just recently started happening today when I hit the Excelerator the cart sounds like there is something spinning but moving very slowly (forwards only, not while in reverse though ) then stop when it gets up to speed. 36 volt EZGO 2006. Any thoughts? Thank you, Louis
Damn manufacturers nowadays !! Sold as a unit ONLY !! All they wanna do is Suck the God Damn Blood out of us.. Ran into similar issue with a TroyBilt snowblower this year. Fortunately I found a some needle bearings that I was able to press out and found replacements in California,, of all places. lol Saved myself about $240 bucks.
great video. NO BS just good stuff. Now I know what is going on with my cart
Thanks very much. Our Church's cart experienced this same problem today.
Thanks💪🏼 I just blew mine up chasing hogs in brownwood this weekend. Looks like I’ll be searching for a new rear end now. Your Favorite glass guy David
Thanks David!
Your video showed me exactly whats wrong with mine, have you ever found the spider gears for rear axle
perfect rear end to weld the diff
Did it have gear oil in it or was it empty?
Any idea as to why this would happen? My golf cart just started doing this yesterday. Sounds like the motor is spinning but the tire doesn't move.
How do know if it's just the axles and hub or the pumpkin
Tempting to just weld the damn thing up and call it a day. Thanks for posting.
Right Just The One Side Still Work As A Def.

Have an EZ GO, my motor seems to be spinning as well at least it sounds like it is. Anything else I can check before pulling the rear end off ?

Is there supposed to be a gasket around the differential?
Almost every time I put it in reverse on a slope a little steeper than flat ground something in the rear part of the golf cart pops? Could you help me out?
Hey, I have a cart that I think the splines are shot also. Can you tell me the best site to buy parts and thanks for your clip

engineered obsolescence at its best

Just looking for info before I start tearing down my cart to diagnose my similar problem (motor spins, but doesn't move and hear a grinding noise).

How much was the new rear end?
I’m also curious about welding the diff up in one. I’ve just never seen it done. Same gear setup as a regular vehicle differential so I don’t see why not...
Do you think its possible to modify that electric differential to have a reverse?

Can I have your old rear end please
sorry parker I'm str8
MrMalibug Good Lord, I just had the best laugh ever!!
I’m having the exact same problem MrMalibug, did you ever find the problem out?
It's the batteries. Hardly moves when a load is on them. Sometimes it runs good for a spell. Now to muster up $6 Benjamin's to buy new ones😲

hey buddy go back and answer my question on the HF mower lift please ???

You ever get it fix. I am having same issue

Check oil in the gearbox immediately!

Bull gears sound like they are stripped

Thanks for the great video's. Can the spider gears and axel be welded to make a solid drive rear end? Thanks
Where did you buy the new rear end from?
Metro golf cars in fort
Worth tx
Do you remember roughly how much they are running on price? @@THEMOWERMEDIC1
can you get the internal axle bearings? mine are gone on my G16a ..
No sorry we don’t sell parts

36 volt EZGO 2006.
Any thoughts?
Thank you,
Louis
Did you ever find out what the problem was? I have the same year and model golfcart as you. And mine is doing the same.
@@ryanbrawley1361
No I didn’t.
Just weld the axle to the spider gear. Boom fixed
How u gone change the seal?
Awesome
Thanks bro !
Should of weld the shaft to spider gear and save
Too bad it wasn't just the splines on the brake drum that wore out, I have that happen a few times, it's an easy fix.
Damn manufacturers nowadays !!

Cool , expensive but cool
Weld it
Then u can't take it apart for service later
Yeah, but if your other option is to replace the rear end assembly, why not? Nothing to loose at that point.
Can you not just replace the axle?
Mine is doing this same thing just happened. Motor is turning but not moving.
I'm sure u can
Weld it
Wouldn’t be able to turn it
