  • Yes you read the title correctly, Suzie's engine has developed a bit of a tick in the top end. I've noticed this for a little bit now since Japfest and it does not go away when the car is warm so It's time to sort it out before the worst case scenario happens.. These things never happen at the best time! This means sadly I won't be attending my next two events.

    Must be a thing on these, 32S in my neighborhood that makes quite a loud ticking noise. My 31S is quite 'clacky' on cold start but I think that's quite normal for the M16A in the sports.

    • @wallsworkshop
      @wallsworkshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Definitely, it’s normal on cold start. Mine only used to do it on cold start but now it does it even after a bit of driving, not bad but you can hear a tick in there

    If the Key Fob battery is dead or low. Just use the fob to push the star/stop button. Easy start.

    Problems with the Suzuki seem to be going around, my driver side rear caliper was leaking brake fluid and had to have it replaced, good luck with the ticking noise, I'm at 107k miles and the ticking is definitely more noticeable in cold start

    • @wallsworkshop
      @wallsworkshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tell me about it! The callipers seem to be a favourite with them. Thank you! As long as some of the ticking doesn't carry on that loud when warm you'll be fine.

    Like others, mine's a little 'ticky' for the first 30-60s unless it's fairly warm (engine or outside). I'm sure it started after my first oil change which made me wonder what was in it previously (is there a treatment?) or was there something wrong with my oil or filter. I poked around in forums and asked a few questions, but I'm undecided on what to do. I'd love to know the cost at the dealers.
    I think the calipers could be a common thing on these cars. I've just done my front and now looking at one on the rear!

      BTW I think the low battery on keyfob is less of a problem when it's next to the start/stop button.

    • @wallsworkshop
      @wallsworkshop  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Mine pretty much always was like that and I’d say if it’s ticky on startup till warm, that’s normal. My tick is still persistent when warm so that’s why I’m concerned. Hopefully Suzuki have the answers and I’ll let you know!
      Yeah definitely, they’re the originals on the front so fair play they’ve done 94k. I’ll try it next to the button next time, not long replaced it 😅

      My engine ticking sound get same as like you said. Even warm you can hear it. This happens after a oil change, and changed for new sparks

    Not long got my self one of these with 35k on the clock, my idle rpm is about 590 when hot and feels lumpy, put a new intake rubber arm on it as it has some cracking around the EGR but it still feels like idle rpm is to low, what does yours idle at when warmed up?
    Thanks.

      These swift sports in EU spec supposedly all idle at around 600 to meet some stupid regulations. Mine idles at 600 ish too

    You probably need to shim the followers - isn't that a regular service item (iirc 30k miles on lesser engined Swift's)🤔🤔🤞🤞🙏
    It is a fiddly job on some cars (not sure about the Swifts), but don't LEAVE it! You could do it, I'm not sure re specialist tools (but such aren't worth it for once or twice in a lifetime jobs) getting those bolts out is the bigger challenge I suspect, but not impossible (WD40 soaking or induction heat - which iirc is okay on alloy).
    You're making the right decisions thus far though mate.👍👍💜
    Worse happens at sea💜✌️😊

      Yeah I believe so, valve adjustment. It's supposed to be yeah but a lot don't get done. Went to see a 2012 3 door for sale once and it was clapping its nuts off 🤣🤣 That had done over 150K sounded like the engine had never had the oil changed let alone valves checked.

      @@wallsworkshop My car is low miles, so a bit like spark plugs, not life expired until mileage is achieved (okay there is a time limit on spark plugs to an extent - but you catch my drift). Same with tappets/followers. On my old cars, I'd do them once a year, RC gasket and feelers etc job done, similar with timing. On modern cars, some brands are fully hydraulically self adjusting. Others with wear require shims. It's not a technically difficult job. On my Swift? Light tappet/hyrdraulicing sound on start up, it clears in moments, but as we aren't at 30k miles I've left them alone (stuck rocker cover bolts worry me on that front). BUT, I've a funny feeling that even if/when a main dealer says they are done? They don't do them, but charge for it in the appropriate service. Not all, but some. But allowing them to clatter on is not good on lots of fronts. You'll get is sorted - shame it wasn't at a more convenient time.

      @@musoseven8218 yeah I catch your drift. Stuck rocker cover bolts is annoying and worrying yes, it's only 2 of then but still not ideal. I agree with the main dealers sometimes not doing them this possibly happened to me. When I picked the car up it was supposed to have a full hit from Suzuki but I don't think that ever got done, pretty sure that rocker covers never been off.. It should be sorted by the end of the week, everything always comes at the worst times lol

    I had the same sound in my 32 and yesterday i did the valve adjustment in my suzuki dealer, 229€ , 4 valves out of range, the sound its not there now.
    Now i have a little ticking noise in cold start, almost imperceptible, my dealer says that is normal.
