Thanks goodness for Tom Joyner...he helps keep the Funk and real R&B/Soul music alive... Sinbad used to do it too..with his island parties..which I've gone to two of them back in the day! I'm glad somebody is keepin' the funk and soul alive, heaven knows records companies and radio isn't doing it!
The Barkays, Confunkshun horns, the Girl from Club Nouveau and u know James Alexander is one of the best Bass player and Larry Dobson talking about Real Music and Real Musician Old School 🖤👏
These dudes have been around since the 50's..Soul Finger was a big hit of theres..they were in the band with Otis Redding and some members died in that plane crash in 1967
No the singer of today are not artist. They just think they are. This is one of the best groups ever.....The lead singer is bad as helllllllll. THIS MAN IS BAD....AND TOM IS HANGING WITH THEM. THIS IS MUSIC,.....CANT TOUCH DIS ......
daretosayit have this vinyl but no player for a long time --- which led me to find this fun performance of same song recently (binge watched :): th-cam.com/video/DkaaYm2k124/w-d-xo.html . . . In the linked video, looks like Larry's wearing the "do" that you miss seeing him in --- Enjoy :)!!!
@@irispoplar2440 ... Awesome!! I have a record player, but my vinyl of this is in storage in a different state than where I live now (along with my original record player.) So glad for 'the tube'!
Everyone in the industry knows that if you do a TJM Show, this is what the fuck you get. You want the Bull, You get the horns too! Tom are the horns! Peace.

GOD BLESS THEM! THIS IS MUSIC..............FUNK WHERE ARE THE FUNK ARTIST TODAY????? MUSIC THEN WAS FUN...HAPPY.....AND THEY SANG ABOUT GOOD TIMES.....................XO
I can't believe how wrong people are saying that George Clinton & Parliament were around before the Bar-Kays. Please, check your facts before you spout off misinformation. The original Bar-Kays were Otis Reddings band! The Bar-Kays were also around before Cameo! Please give the Bar-Kays their props!
you're splitting hairs Tomthefunky. The fact remains that the Bar-Kays were Otis' band which is what I said. The fact that Booker T & the MGs were also Otis' band does not negate the fact that the Bar-Kays were also his band. whew! You funknots are something else!
Sorry I'm just now getting back to reply to your uninformed comment. Tom Joyner grew up with Lionel Richie, attended Tuskeegee and was a singer with the group before he quit-right before they hit it big.
TOM IS JAMMMMMMING BABY AND THE LEAD IS SLAMMMMMMING. THE BAND IS TOOOOOO BAD.NOBODY CAN TOUCH THE BAR KAYS...NOTE CONFUNKSHUN IS MIXED IN THE BAND TOO.
And he helped found the Commodores back in Tuskeegee back in the day. He's a multi-millionaire with a syndicated radio show in more than 100 markets & just bought his own stations in Chicago. What's your claim to fame or relevance?
I dont know how anyone can "fake" the funk. It just comes out, it is in everyone. Especially since George Clinton and his crew have been around just as long as the Bar-Kays so I do not know what your talking about. Picking favorites never gets anyone anywhere. Just love the funk.
I guess 25 years from now, all of us who were around when this kind of music was being made will be in our walkers and wheelchairs trying to jam. I wonder what the pants below their butt, confused, handgun-toting/shooting people will be doing with their slow, infantile, computer produced, arrhythmic, gimmicky music will be doing. I guess they'll spend all their time shooting at each other and text messaging while listening to slow, infantile, breakbeats.
George Clinton was trying first, but the Bar Kays hit the mark first. Y'all gotta remember, the original Bar Kays were babies, still in high school when they were hitting it, even before 'Soul Finger'. Gone too soon, in December of 1967. George is actually about ten years older than the original Bar Kays.
❤Larry Dodson still have a great and strong voice. Love it.
My favorite Memphis,Tn. band.Larry Dodson and James Alexander is still jamming.
