I would really appreciate your opinion on Pastor Jim Brown of Grace and Truth Ministries here on TH-cam. He teaches from the original languages and texts, keeping in mind the ancient, First Century sayings and idioms of the Jewish community and culture. He defines almost EVERY word in an effort to discover the truth of any biblical passage and doctrine. He has thousands of hours of study and teachings available for FREE upon request on DVD and here on TH-cam. He has been teaching since his thirties and he is in his eighties now! He has been a very rich resource in helping me study God's Word. I have learned more from his teachings in ONE hour, than I have most of my life of Sundays. (I'm in my 50's) I encourage anyone who is searching for biblical truth, please check him out. And let me know what you think 🤔 🙏 ❤

Nice. “Certainty” is an epidemic among many modern Christians in the US. They crave it like water. Learning to be OK with uncertainty is a key to mental health.

Wow, did I need to hear this! I'm in the process of doing just this - marking in the NT exact quotes from the OT, then marking the reverse in the OT (like references but in an "artsy" way. But when reading the OT I kept thinking - how in earth did they think messiah when reading this prophecy?! As usual - all cleared up with Heiser! Thank you Mike for all your teaching while you were still here.
Wow this is such fascinating stuff. I never knew "rulers" in that passage meant principalities and the evil ones! It makes so much sense that even the Apostles could not figure out where in the OT it talked about Jesus' coming. I'm still learning so much from him.

The OT is a difficult book to digest because the events happened so long ago that historically we have lost a connection to it, it was also written over many centuries and isn’t chronologically written. However it is the foundation for the NT and thus extremely important, unfortunately when I went to seminary we only had one course to cover the OT which is insane 😖

Good stuff. A helpful note though on Amos 9. The Septuagint says “remnant of man” not Edom. Adam/Edom variant. James quote of the Septuagint fixes the error of the masoretic text.
Some people read the prophecy of Isaiah 7:14 and say that it was fulfilled at that time with Ahaz. It is a dual prophecy. Here's why. Isaiah 7:14 does not refer to Ahaz or Hezekiah. It refers to Jesus. Here's why. Ahaz was a wicked King who "sacrificed his son" like the nation's. Judah was under attack by a coalition army of Syria and Ephraim. Ahaz and all the people became afraid. Ahaz didn't believe God who told David through the prophet Nathan twice in 2 Samuel that God would establish both David's house and his throne forever. Instead, Ahaz feared for his life and, instead of believing God and trusting Him, he thought he would be defeated and killed, ending the Davidic line. The Lord tells Ahaz to ask for a sign from Him. But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the LORD to the test.” Then God said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? Therefore the LORD himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. - Isaiah 7:12-14 Those who think this sign was only given to King Ahaz dont understand it within the context of the chapter. The sign God gave was not to Ahaz but to the "the House of David." Eventually Ahaz had a son with Abi, the daughter of Zechariah. He didn't name his son Immanuel. His son's name was Hezekiah. Hezekiah means "God is my strength." Although Hezekiah was a good king, it was never said of him "God is with us." That prophecy wasn't given for Ahaz. It wasn't about Ahaz' wife. It wasn't about Ahaz' child. It was a sign given to the 'house of David'. The sign was that one day in the future, a child would be born in the Davidic line to a virgin. The sign also meant that Ahaz would not be defeated by the enemy and be killed since that would mean the house of David would be ended. Isaiah describes the child in Isaiah 9:6-7. 6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. Jesus became that child and only He fits that description perfectly. He became Immanuel. God is still with us today and forever. Some will argue that the Hebrew word הָעַלְמָ֗ה 'almah' in Isaiah 7:14 means young woman and not necessarily a virgin, which is בְּתוּלָ֕ה 'bethulah' in Hebrew. However, Rebekah is called a bethulah in Gen 24:16, and it states no man had known her. In Genesis 24:43 Rebekah is an almah. In Exodus 2:8 Moses' sister Miriam is called an almah. Both words can have the same meaning. In addition to that, the Septuagint has 'parthenos' (virgin) in Isaiah 7:14. That was the Bible used and quoted many times in the New Testament. Luke didn't reference that verse in Luke 1:31-33, and also used 'parthenos' (virgin). Anyone reading this passage would have immediately thought of Isaiah 7:14. Matthew, a disciple of Jesus and an Apostle who knew Mary well, absolutely knew what he was talking about when he clearly wrote in his gospel, Chapter 1:23, that Jesus fulfilled the sign which wasn't given to Ahaz, but was given to the house of David. Matthew also uses 'parthenos' (virgin).
I love you. This is perhaps the first time in my personal youtube history of reading a comment and absolutely enjoying it. God bless you richly for sharing this.
I’m sure this guy is just as sincere as he can be. Here’s the problem with scholars, theologians, eschatologists. He says at 2:25 that “we the readers don’t know what the biblical writer’s intended meaning or intended outcome was”. Many prophetic writers didn’t know the meaning of the prophecies they were writing. Prophecies are NOT uncovered, discovered, interpreted etc. The meaning of prophecies are REVEALED at the time God chooses to reveal them, many at the time or just before their fulfillment. Prophecy is given to be understood, and most of the time as a warning to God’s people(Amos 3:7). This guy is completely clueless about the duality of prophesy. There is OT Israel- physical. There is NT Israel- spiritual. There was a former type and an anti-type. These principles are critical to understand what is to come. I wouldn’t want to be held accountable for causing anyone to doubt the word of God.
Even though there was no way to understand some messianic prophecy when it was written; the prophecy becomes more than evident by the testimony of multiple prophets. Like the Lord says by the testimony of two or three witnesses. Prophecies also come with passages that explain other prophecies. Jesus said to dig into it. It's not about reading, understanding the text, or even memorizing. It's more like reading with an open mind comparing what is in your memory, matching things, and asking God for revelation. The interpretation is not of private interpretation. It's open to everyone even though it's hidden to the wise.
WOW YOURE SAYING MARY WALKED WITH HIM ?!!!! You can be a "joiner" and still believe in a pre-tribulation rapture. 1 Thes 4:13-17 is the second coming with the one and only resurrection for the saints which is on the last day, last trumpet (John 6:39-54 & 11:24, Rev 20:4-6, 1 Cor 15:52). Luke 17:22-37 is the pre-trib rapture WITHOUT A RESURRECTION. There is a flash of light and dead bodies when life seems normal (eating, drinking, etc.). We leave our mortal flesh on earth. Why have resurrection pre-trib? Those in heaven today need a new body (1 Thes 4:14)? No, they have a heavenly body (1 Cor 15:40, 2 Cor 5:1-6). At the second coming we will need an earthly body.
Last night I heard Billy crone boldly state Gods wrath begins at the beginning of the seven year tribulation. Revelation 6 clearly states His wrath begins with the sixth seal Which is after the midpoint. It’s teachings like This That have created complacency within the church. How can a pastor as smart as he is make such a grossly incorrect Statement? I don’t think we have a clue how things are about to unfold.
Heiser is a Bible rejecting nobody. Romans 13:11-14 (KJV) 11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. 13 Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. 14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
At least Heiser was honest about none of the evangelical prophecy positions really working. So why would God give us confusing and historically problematic guidance ? Couldn’t it be that this stuff is all man made ?
All I know is Jesus left his family to begin his ministry. Then he spent 40 some more days in the wilderness. I’m not in agreement with you at all that Mary was following him around like you’re saying I don’t. I don’t agree at all and you have no proof you’re assuming.
"Signs" are given to the Jews. It is wrong to conclude 1 Thes 5:1 introduces a totally different "time." Yet it is equally wrong to conclude that it is a continuation of what was just revealed. "Brothers" merely marks a new discussion in relationship to what Timothy was reporting to Paul what the Thessalonians situation was...due to their suffering for remaining believers in Christ. THey had misunderstood what happened to believers after they had died in relationship to the parousia. That was resolved in ch 4. Now the question is whether their tribulation was what occurs in The Tribulation to which Paul coddels them reminding them as to the *times* and the *dates.* Paul is now addressing the Day of the Lord from two different vantage points/perspectives. "You know full well," indicates that Paul's gospel presentation had included describing some particulars,, some specific particulars of the coming/future Day of the Lord (DotL) . What he had taught should have been adequate for them not to confuse their involvement in the DotL. "Hemera" / "day" sometimes is preferably translated "judgment." The DotL involves both salvation as well as the wrath of God. However, for true believers, we are not "destined unto wrath". Christ suffered God's wrath in our stead in His vicarious atonement. Thus we will escape that "hour of testing." (Rev 3). And while we're in Rev, I have found John's usage of the conditional or ingressive aorist be most interesting. In Jn 1:14, clearly an entirely new condition was entered into at the incarnation. Jn also uses it in Rev 1:19c as well as in Rev 4:1. IMHO, this was not by accident. To align this with Paul's "mystery", the Church is raptured prior to the coming DotL for if either the Rapture of the DotL were to proceed the other, the illustration of the surprise advent of the "thief in the night" doesn't make sense. When the Rapture occurs, the DotL is inaugurated. Therefore, in 2 Thes 2, Paul is right to sigh that the Thessalonians should know that the DotL is NOT present because they have not been raptured prior to its coming. I like all the caveats that Mike points out here and in other lectures, but that doesn't equate to say that we cannot "know" eschatological facts. In fact, Jesus chided the religious leaders for not knowing the "season/hour" of His coming. After all, Simeon and others knew. And so it is for the Church. We should know the "season." Obviously it is wrong to suggest we can know the day/hour. But that does not exclude knowing the "season." The "signs" were given to the Jews. If we, Christians, see "all these things" now being placed on the stage globally, we should recognize that the curtains could be pulled back at any moment. Knowing the "times and the dates" should then spur us on to serious evangelization. "For the darkness comes when no man can work." i.e. we'll be Raptured away and will no longer be able to share the saving-from-wrath good news to them. It is the Bride of Christ alone who does not suffer the coming wrath of God.
Your comment looks like a dismissive insult without any intelligent back-up. Care to explain? Having read Heiser's books and watched many of his vids I, like many others, appreciate the insight he gives into the Scriptures. So why are you comparing him to a cult? Over to you . . .
Heiser may be an expert on OT, but he fails to distinguish between prophecy and mistery, recognise that Paul was given a distinct gosple of salvation by grace through faith alone (this is rhe mistery hidden before the creation of the world hence it couldn't be a part of any prophecy) and inevitably ends up with the typical mistake of calling the church a spiritual Israel as he can't fully grasp what Paul had explained about Israel's salvation in the end which OF COURSE entails their promised Kingdom on earth, otherwise God would become a liar. Heiser is fun to listen to when it comes to OT, when he tries to venture to NT, it's nothing but the typical churchian confusion although he tries to appear as very "unorthodox" 😀
Maybe you should listen to Dr. Heiser’s in depth discussion of the role of Israel In the end times and then come back here and share with us the issues you have with his beliefs?
Jesus didn’t pay for anyone’s sin. Jesus death was heroic, he sacrificed himself to begin the process of redemption. His death initiated the prosecution of Satan, the authority over death.
Good teaching.
May your soul rest in eternal peace

- Isaiah 7:12-14
Those who think this sign was only given to King Ahaz dont understand it within the context of the chapter. The sign God gave was not to Ahaz but to the "the House of David."
Eventually Ahaz had a son with Abi, the daughter of Zechariah. He didn't name his son Immanuel. His son's name was Hezekiah. Hezekiah means "God is my strength." Although Hezekiah was a good king, it was never said of him "God is with us."
That prophecy wasn't given for Ahaz.

Isaiah 9:6-7 is not about Jesus.

It’s teachings like
This That have created complacency within the church. How can a pastor as smart as he is make such a grossly incorrect
Statement? I don’t think we have a clue how things are about to unfold.
Heiser is a Bible rejecting nobody. Romans 13:11-14 (KJV)
11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.
Sad to say but I can understand now why God took you out. Some of this is accurate but some is also bunk.
James had a strong Faith in God. No metaphors with that.
But that does not exclude knowing the "season."
The "signs" were given to the Jews.
I trust him.....as much as the seventh day Adventists cult
Your comment looks like a dismissive insult without any intelligent back-up. Care to explain? Having read Heiser's books and watched many of his vids I, like many others, appreciate the insight he gives into the Scriptures. So why are you comparing him to a cult? Over to you . . .
@@alanharris5716Right!?
Dear diary.
There are comments that add to our discussion and understanding- and then there are comments like this one, which does neither.
God blinded their eyes today as back then. 2Thess2:11 is here. They believe THE LIE
EXCEPT THE TABERNACLE OF DAVID WAS FOUND IN 1982 AND IT WILL BE RESTORED JUST LIKE AMOS AND THE COUNCIL OF JERUSALEM SAID IT WOULD.
And what are your credentials?
Please enlighten us
Please explain this Israel thing more.
Maybe you should listen to Dr. Heiser’s in depth discussion of the role of Israel
In the end times and then come back here and share with us the issues you have with his beliefs?
Enlighten us please, somebody that can’t even spell mystery, please tell us all how YOU know better than Dr. Heiser.
Jesus didn’t pay for anyone’s sin. Jesus death was heroic, he sacrificed himself to begin the process of redemption. His death initiated the prosecution of Satan, the authority over death.
