      They are definitely fun bikes, Iv got 4,300 trouble free miles on my bike now, only real issues Iv had are the chain breaking (which I would change immediately if possible), and I bent my swing arm (hitting big jumps, not a big suprise 😂). 99% of having a reliable hawk is just putting the time and effort in up front to get the bike set up right. thanks for watching and commenting!

    Took my hawk to a serious trail this weekend. Ate shit , with style. Went up a steep incline on a small mountain , red rocks with light sand . All went well. Got to the top of the mountain and almost all the way down til I tried to go over a rock about the size of the fuel tank that was wedged between two boulders. Went over it on the way up no prob. But on the way down the hill tried to go over the same rock and I went down. Rim caved on me. Wasn't doing more than 25mph. I told myself I didn't need my armor , I wasn't gonna do stupid shit. Oh boy was I wrong lol. So now my front rim is bent.
    Planning to get a TUSK impact resistant rim hoop and reuse hub with new spokes . I wanna replace the hub too but not sure what width I need yet.
    Moral of the story , front suspension too soft and stock rims are weak af

    • @goodolboys713
      @goodolboys713  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I really like the tires it comes with.. to be honest they really wear well and have plenty of grip on and off road. Plus I still have the stock tires on the bike at 4,000 miles. The rear is getting very close to needing to be replaced but it’s still very usable. I like slicks on street bikes but on the hawk I couldn’t go without straight up knobby tires (BUT I do a lot of off-road riding) it all depends on how you ride the bike, each person has different needs. Thanks for the videos. They are very helpful.
    I'm curious on your as to whether or not the rims should be upgraded to better rims? I would love to see a video on this. I've heard many guys who have had their rims bent with minimal impact or force and it makes me very nervous. A few guys have had blow outs and the rims bend and they have crashed pretty good.
    I'm trying to start with changing any components on my bike that are a safety concern and the rims are definitely a starting place.
    Should the rims be replaced, or reinforced? If so is their an easy replacement? If only reinforcing is necessary what reinforcements or mods should be made beyond the tire lock and upgraded tubes?

    • @goodolboys713
      @goodolboys713  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So to answer this question Iv got a few things to point out. So I now have 7,400 miles on my bike and the rims are still holding up on the bike (factory original rims). I would say, no, the rims don’t need replaced. (To replace them it takes a lot of work or a deep pocket for new rims and labor to install now rims) Now that’s just my opinion, as you mentioned there are many others that would say replace the rims. Would I say they are a safety concern? in my opinion no. What I can tell you is that they are not super strength motocross rims, but that’s a given, this is a $1400 china bike. They are pretty cheesy rims, however they have held up very well throughout all the abuse Iv put my hawk through. That’s my two cents on the subject. Basically I’d say run with the factory rims, BUT, that’s my opinion and I would encourage you to do some more of your own research and decide for yourself. Hopefully this helps! Thanks for watching!

    My Hawk ChooFiddy is slippery as ever off-road. I’m bouncing around at every rock and slipping even going slow. What PSI do you run your tires at?

    • @goodolboys713
      @goodolboys713  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So here is the DL on tire pressure, a lot of people have different options. I recommend for the hawk running a higher than normal tire pressure, so some where between 12-15 psi (because the stock hawk tires are very soft and can pinch and flex easy compared to other normal dirt bike tires. At some point you may upgrade, once that happens chances are you will replace the hawk tires with some name brand tire, normally they are pretty stiff no matter what compound you get, anyway, when running a typical dirt bike tire 10-11 psi is what you want to run. So, general rule of thumb, factory hawk tires 12-15 psi, normal dirtbike/motocross tires 10-11 psi). Correct air pressure is something you feel and experience while riding, I recommend playing around with the air pressure until you find what feels the best and works the best for you. A few more tips: consider where you are riding, for example if your going to be riding fast across big sharp rocks, you should air the tires up a little more than normal to avoid pinch flats, riding on the road? Air up just a few psi, loose gravel? Air down 1-2 psi for more traction and less looseness. The numbers above pretty good figures for all around riding, start with those figures and go from
      There. Another small tip: most times my tire pressure does not change unless I’m going on a big riding trip or something like that. (I set my tires at a psi that works well off road and on road, one more thing to consider, when your riding on road with lower tire pressure be careful how aggressively you take corners and such. That being said I have never layed the bike down on the road, I hit corners fairly aggressively with the hawk on a regular basis, and thats with the tires set at above tire pressures. I have no doubt these tire pressure will serve you well. Hopefully this helps, thanks for watching!

      Texaspowersports is the only place I know of that could get you a wheel specific for the hawk. If your good at figuring things out you may want to go with an aftermarket rim from a Japanese bike. You will need to count total Number of spoke holes on the hawk250 hub, once you figure that out, you can get a proper sized wheel, with the right amount of spoke holes in it. You’re also going to need different length spokes more than likely to go with the new wheel. Hopefully this helps you out! thanks for watching!
